Food: 2/5 Ribs are tough and fatty. They were sent back. "Blackened" cod was not blackened. The cajan seasoning was an odd choice imo: it just didn't work. The accompanying broccolini was way under cooked (the stalks were difficult to chew). Maple bourbon salmon tasted good. The accompanying rice was cool at time of serving. Service: 3/5 The waitress was friendly but not that attentive; had to be prompted for water after the first bottle was provided. One of the meal orders was wrong (completely different dish than was ordered). The restaurant Manager came to apologize, and at the same time asked if the incorrect dish was attempted because it was apparently "delicious". We waited nearly 30 mins for the right dish- which was unfortunately the inedible ribs noted above. Then we waited 20 more minutes for our dessert which was ordered at the beginning with our mains. After 20 mins waiting we decided it was time to call it quits and leave. The waitress was apologetic for the experience. The restaurant Manager however did not stop to speak to us about our experience as we passed him on our way out. This was the worst restaurant experience I've had in years. I absolutely would not return or recommend this restaurant to anyone. Ambiance: 4/5 The restaurant is located on the picturesque waterfront of Pickering. It's beautiful. The noise level however is HIGH. It is very difficult to have a normal level volume conversation. I found myself really having to focus when my parents were speaking. The parking is a nightmare. It's very very tight. Insufficient spaces and getting in/out is interesting but that's not the restaurant's fault- it's just the way it is. read more

First time at port for brunch-lunch on their waterfront patio. Beautiful views. We booked right at opening because first of all their parking lot has like 20 spots! Come later and I don't even know where to park if you have reservations! Last time we visited was winter and the server told me their winter season js a lot slower so we didn't have issues finding parking. So note to self. Book early if you can. Service was good. They were busy. The place filled up fast. I was surprised they didn't have brunch items. We only ordered apps to share cuz who is having a steak at 11:30am. LOL. No complaints. Service was friendly and fast. Ambiance is nice, especially in the summer if you're sitting outside. The inside is clean and spacious and the seating is comfortable. The food is pretty good. I tried the hot honey chicken burger and the crab burger. The chicken was a little dry but they are solid burgers nonetheless. The fries are crisp and seasoned well. I would say the caeser salad had a bit too much dressing for my taste though. I'd probably go with either the fries or the quinoa kale salad (the other option for the side salad). A lot of the other items on the menu including drinks are pretty expensive although that's to be expected for this type of restaurant. Overall, an enjoyable experience! read more

Was just there tonight with friends for dinner. Service was very good, atmosphere was terrific on the patio, and summer weather couldn't be beat. However, everyone's meal was good, but my pizza would be considered mediocre. Chewy crust that needed more cook time, and pretty bland, not to mention not warm. Mango Cheesecake for dessert was not good either. The Restaurant was enjoyable, just not the food. Bathroom soap dispenser from Dollarama seemed out of place too. Strong Meh. This menu is mostly confusing, nothing stands out as interesting or enjoyable, so you have to pick between some lacklustre options. Some stars may include the "esparagus" which I think was made by AI or the "limited addition" drinks which don't add much at all. If you can find parking at this place, please note that its maximum 2 hours, which is less time than it takes for your meal to come out, so make sure you plan to take the bus or whatever. read more

The pasta and brussel sprouts were good but nothing to write home about. The burger was a miss for me and the calamari had far too many peppers and little calamari pieces. That was kind of a bummer. Came to Port for my cousins birthday and the two of us really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the service. We were looking for a really quiet, low-key hole in the wall just to hang out and catch up and port did not disappoint. We arrived around 8 PM and left around 11:15, we were literally the last two to leave and the restaurant staff didn't kick us out or anything they just tidied up and checked in on us every so often. read more

We ordered the calamari appetizer and didn't have to wait very long to get it. It was great quality and the best calamari I've ever had. My partner got the Smoked BBQ Chicken pizza and it looked excellent. The sample I tried was very flavourful and the crust was the perfect combination of thin, soft, and chewy. This was a perfect portion size and we had no complaints about it. I wasn't quite as satisfied with the Fogo Island Cod. The dish was executed very well for what it is, but I did not see $32 of value in it. The fish was the perfect texture, but it really depended on the rest of the plate for flavour. My biggest complaint was just that I left the restaurant as hungry as I arrived. We're hesitant to say we'd go back. Even though the view was amazing there are many other restaurants that offer comparable quality at lower prices or in larger portions. read more

Checking Yelp before my visit did leave me a bit worried considering the mixed reviews. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. We were seated at a nice long table with a view of the water. However, the restaurant was PACKED - families, date nights and small groups made the resto super loud and crowded. A private glassed in room became available right above us and we asked to move which the servers quickly accommodated. The service was great. Our server Julian was personable, warm and gave us great reccos for our orders. My pasta dish was about $25 which is steep but the portion was decent. The sauce and pasta noodles were good quality and look at that cheese. I didn't have to ask, this is how the dish arrived. My bestie and I split the Rosemary focaccia bread pudding and it was very nice. I wish it was slightly bigger for $12 but it came out wonderfully warm. The birthday girl also became a fiancé this night with a surprise proposal by her soon to be hubby. I had let the manager know this would be happening and they did not rush us out or rush us in general which was lovely. They also brought the couple champagne after the proposal. Be mindful that the resto "closes" at 9pm on a Saturday. This is super odd to me, but be aware when making dinner plans here. Overall, we had a great time! read more

Caught an amazing sunny day this winter for lunch! It was my first time here and I much rather coming here than busy downtown Toronto waterfront restaurants! Really enjoyed this place. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and the staff are polite and knowledgeable of the menu. Started with their garlic prawns starter. It was really good. Doesn't come with enough bread to soak up the yummy juices. Wasn't a fan of their seasonal drink, but the cider spritz was nice. For a main, I had the maple bourbon salmon and my friend had the bacon wrapped filet. Both were amazing. I ended up ordering a foccacia to go, which held up pretty nicely the next day. I came during the COVID-19 phase 3 with a group of 7. Their policy is maximum 6 people but the rules for Ontario seem to be max 10 people. They made an exception and were able to seat us together. However, for large groups they only have indoor seating. We sat by the bar/windows and the windows were kept open which made us feel more comfortable. There also weren't people sitting too close to us or anything. I ordered a canadian pizza and my boyfriend had the fried chicken sandwich with fries. The pizza was good, but nothing too special. Though I found a hair / fibre in it. The service was good. They promptly took it away and asked if they could do anything like make a new one or offer anything else. I had a new pizza made and they offered fries for the table while we waited. The manager (?) also came by to offer her apologies and took the pizza off our bill. I especially appreciated her coming by personally to speak with me. The chicken sandwich was really yummy and so were the fries. It had a sweet sauce that reminded me of chicken and waffles. Overall, great service, and great view. The food is good but I feel like it doesn't stand out. Great time with my friends. Food was great as was our service. We lucked out with Sept weather and enjoyed the outdoor dining and sunset. Although this has nothing to do with my experience during our dinner, I want to call out that I had called 2x this past September to inquire about renting out the space for a huge function and NO ONE called me back. When I called back the second time the person said "oh maybe the manager didn't get the message" and seemed to indicate it was the person who answered the phone. I had to empathize that the person who answered the fist time was awesome and walked me through options (and said they'd have a manager call me back). Ok I'll stop ranting, the net-net is don't tell a customer that the manager will call you only to hear nothing. AND further more if your new owner has no interest in renting the space for big functions then just say that!!!!!! read more

PORT has certainly evolved over the years, especially after a complete renovation that took over a year (if I recall) to complete, due to a fire. The new PORT is not only beautiful, but feels more spacious. Included in this remake, was a wood fired pizza oven. It's been a while since I've had a pizza so that certainly got my attention. Oh boy, too many choices, all delicious looking. We told our server to surprise us. She chose one of her favourites, the Chicken Caprese Pizza with basil pesto, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan, white sauce. It didn't take long to arrive and it looked really good. It was absolutely delicious! All the flavours worked well together and the crust was nice and thin, just the way I like it. Good choice! We were hoping to sit outside on their fantastic patio, right on the water, but it was fully occupied and had advance reservations. This is, by far, my favourite patio in Durham region. It's right on the water of Frenchman's Bay, with great sunset views. Besides the great ambiance and service, COVID-19 protocols were being observed. Staff were wearing masks, social distancing was being observed, sanitizer was readily available, etc. PORT was recently nominated for 27 awards in Ajax Pickering's News Advertiser Readers' Choice Awards, all well deserved! This place is so good and I mean so good, we felt like we were in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. For starter, we ordered Calamari Puttanesca (grilled), main course: Atlantic Salmon and Bacon Wrapped Filet. For dessert; Crème Brulee. The head chef Esther introduced herself and served our starter and main course. This is customer service at its best. While we were eating, the general manager Julian came by to ensure our meals are to perfection. I told him we were from out of town and the food is top quality. (Even the tiny tomatoes on my Salmon was sweet and plum). Eat dish is seasoned with its spices and herbs which come out smelling savoury and appetizing. I can't pick a favourite because all of them are so good. The Salmon is seasoned perfectly and pan-seared just right, with the skin a bit crispy and the meat is tender. The Bacon-wrapped Filet is very delectable and mouthwatering. All the flavour is kept in the meat and cooked exactly what she wanted. I have to complement the cooking staff and Esther. This place should be considered a Michelin 2 Stars restaurant in my opinion. Our server Natalie is polite, courteous and attentive. The prices are extremely reasonable compared to similar places. Went as a group of 7 with a reso for a special occasion, requested table with a really nice water views....didn't really happen. Lounge was insanely loud. Service was actually excellent, food (2 different pizzas, fried chicken sandwich, salmon entree, miso cod entree and 2 different steak entrees) was just meh.....the focaccia and fries were the best offering. Wine list pricing fair. Would I go back? Maybe in the summer, at lunch to sit on the patio looking at the water but otherwise no...,.food just isn't it for the price point. The host was friendly and promptly seated us after checking our vax cards with ID. The grilled calamari was okay, I may not reorder but it wasn't horrible, definitely different from the usual fried and battered one but they do inform you that it's non battered when you order. I didn't think it was grilled though, there were zero char marks and it was very soft almost like they boiled it lol I got the cheeseburger which was decent. I was impressed that the waiter noticed I was pregnant and asked if I was ok with a medium rare patty or want it more cooked! I loveddddd The garlic bread as it was on a crispy soft and crunchy ciabatta with plenty of grated Parmesan on top. Wouldnt even mind having that as my main! Been wanting to go here for years and finally went with a couple of friends. I wanted to treat myself so I didn't hold back! Service was also great so that alone made the experience even more enjoyable. Artichoke Dip - The hostess recommended this app but also warned us on how salty it is. She wasn't kidding! She had recommended a nice drink, especially a sweet one to have with the dip. I personally don't like my food too salty but I would still order this again. 5/5. California Striploin Steak - They have 2 types of steaks and this cut is the only one that can be grilled to order. I personally love my steaks medium rare so I opted for this cut. Steak was perfectly grilled and went well with literally everything I tried it with whether it be the horseradish, gravy or mustard. I was happy that I got a glass of their house red wine as well. First time visiting Port! Friendly, efficient service, tasty food, and a great location. We came by on a Friday night without a reservation and there was a table available to us straight away. [I imagine you'd need a reservation in the summer given the great location and view of Frenchman's Bay.] The focaccia was more than enough for 2 people as a starter, it came with oil and vinegar for dipping. I ordered the Alfredo pasta, it was good- creamy sauce and fair portion. I'd order something different next time (not that it was bad at all though). 3 Star + 1 Star for the view when the weather is nice I can seriously just chill out at their back patio every time when I am in Pickering with a pint of beer or a glass of wine! Port has one of the nicest set up to enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Ontario. It is just hard to believe sometimes you can just enjoy this resort like setting right in your own town without going down south! The food though decent but might be a little pricey which is more in line with Downtown Toronto's prices. A $19 Cheeseburger probably a little too rich for me for lunch! So I would probably settle on drinking a draught beer ($7-$8 which is quite reasonable) from GLB, Beau's, Nickelbrook, Muskoka and even 5 Paddles next time when I am here and have a snack next time when I am back! read more

I know there were changes to covid but their website should be updated. My chicken caprese pizza looked delicious but once I grabbed a slice to bite, there was a strand of hair. Hair on my food is a huge pet peeve of mine. We asked it to be replaced and a new, fresh pizza was brought out right away which I appreciated. The dough seemed like it was a pita which I didn't like but the toppings were good. My friend got the atlantic salmon. Every time I go to the Port I leave frustrated that a restaurant with so much potential and aspirations of greatness has difficulty executing the basics of customer service. Making a reservation is always problematic. when you arrive you get more questions than someone arriving at Pearson on an international flight from a undeveloped nation. A request to sit on the patio is treated with derision and obviously a secret password is required which is not shared with the greater unwashed such as I. let's move on to the drinks menu. There is no reasonably priced house wine but a bottle of any of their selections will average 60 dollars. But if you order a white wine check the temperature because it seems that checking a white wine temperature is not included in the pricing and you will get a lot of pained looks if you ask for a chilled bottle. You will be asked to wait for it to be chilled. So all of of this drama occurs before you get to order your edibles and despite the fact that the food is very well prepared and presented, the overall lack of welcoming can leave a bad taste in one's mouth. I will probably return because I live nearby and like Charlie Brown kicking Lucy's football I remain optimistic that someday they will get the whole thing right. read more

Second visit to PORT and I'd have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. Booked a reservation on the patio for 2. We were seated promptly at a "socially distanced" table. The view was nice. However I had a few notes: 1) you have to get up to place an order at the window and then pay. Food was brought to the table. At times, there were long lines to order and pay which kind of defeats the purpose of social distancing as the line flows into the seating area and you're standing right beside other ppl. 2) the food was just okay. Too much crust on the pizza, the flavour was nothing special. The mushrooms on the pizza were generic Cremini or button mushrooms and usually I expect something more from a funghi pizza. 3) there were a ton of huge spiders around which I guess comes with a patio. They had these bug "zappers" which were nice for mosquitos but a bit unsettling when you're eating and all you hear is ZAP ZAP ZAP. 4) they have a small edited menu I guess due to covid. I miss the old menu, the food we had prior was much better. 5) we ordered a side dip and it never came to our table. We mentioned it and The manager Esther rectified it and offered to take it off the bill. When we went to pay however, it was still on the bill. We weren't going to cause a fuss over a $1 dip so we left it as is, but just something to mention. The one good thing about our experience was meeting the manager Esther who was friendly, inviting and professional. Not sure I'd visit again, unless they bring back the old menu. read more
