    Great tasting fries!

State & Main apparently opened this location sometime last year and I didn't even notice, even though I drive past here almost every day. It was a very hot and humid day so we sat inside where it was nice and cool. Several patio diners also came in from the heat. Kudos to the servers working out there in their black outfits. They must have been hot but provided great service with a smile. The Fish Tacos were pretty good, albeit a bit messy to eat. Maybe I need to up my taco eating skills! The ingredients were very flavourful and I really enjoyed the Fries. They were nicely seasoned and perfectly crispy. My friend had the Teriyaki Rice Bowl with Chicken and seemed to enjoy it. The decor had a nice upscale ambiance, with solid furniture and large booths against the walls. Nicely done! Thanks for lunch, Tony!

Our 3rd visit to this location and the first time we could dine indoors. We were excited and had a great experience before. We went on the State and Main website and reserved a table for 2 at 7pm. When we arrived the hostess advised they are not taking reservations from opentable app. Not a great start. We were told 40 mins wait. So we decided to walk over to Beer store to kill some time. After about 15 minutes we received a text notification that our table is ready. We rushed back to get our table. My wife ordered the Sirloin 6 oz medium rare. It was grilled to perfection with thick cut. Great dish and highly recommended. Rating 5/5 I wanted to try something different and ordered the Royal Bangkok noodle bowl. It was sort of a pad thai concoction with shrimps. It lacked seasoning but the lemon did help elevate the flavours. I was disappointed with this dish Rating 3/5 Long Beach fish tacos were served with your choice of side - salad, fries, or sweet potato fries. The taco was loaded with toppings and served with lime on the side. The fish could have been more crispy however the flavours were on point. Rating 4/5 Mexican Bulldog - Margarita with Coronita. Presentation is nice but needed more tequila and should be more slushy than liquidy. Overall experience was good. Server was attentive and polite. Will come back when they get the happy hour menu back so I can try more items in the menu. Update your website to remove reservation link if you're not using opentable. Thanks. Overall rating 4/5

This is your average pub food. Our server was very attentive which is always a plus. Burger was decent. Drink wasn't my favourite. Good spot for average food.

Came here Saturday to celebrate my girlfriend's graduation. While parking, my friends said they had no reservation under my name, even though I literally called that day and spoke to someone named Matt (I think? A bit muffled due to mask). He didn't even really seem to care that I was calling to confirm, and he was gonna hang up before even telling him my name and time (wouldn't this be the first thing you ask?) I had to literally show the hostess my email confirmation from open table and the call logs (which really seemed extreme). They didn't really seem apologetic, but I guess being busy they were overwhelmed. They said the best they could do was have me wait another fifteen to twenty minutes. Obviously super annoyed, but it was close to happy hour anyway so we sucked it up. We were seated in the back, and took some time with the menu. They were sold out of a few things, so we had to readjust our options. I got the blossom G&T, with club soda. It was nice but way too much soda. I think these drinks are better served in a small glass than a tall. We had the pretzel sticks and spinach dip to start. The pretzel dip was great but the spinach dip was just ok for us. The salsa and sour cream were a bit of a waste for us that came with the spinach dip. For my main I got the mac and cheese and the soup dumplings. The soup dumplings were very cold, which I didn't expect considering soup is supposed to be inside. It was more so a regular dumping; not a fan of these. The mac and cheese was great and perfectly creamy. For dessert, there wasn't much options, and the waitress said the brownie was no bueno so I got a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which was pretty standard but good. My friends got the champagne cheesecake which they said tasted more like a black forest cake than champagne, and were not happy. Overall I'd give it a 2.5/5. The earlier part of the night turned me off, and the food was ok, but nothing I would crave to come back for. They are fairly new operating during a rough time, so hopefully they work out the kinks.

I had a great time at this restaurant! The Bang Bang Shrimp was absolutely delicious! I would definitely go back there just to have that one item! I had the fish and chips as my main which was also really good. The portion was fairly big as well. The fries paired with the dill dip is very tasty.

My wife and went to this location. I have a previous review from their Edmonton location. The menu has changed so the spectacular Chicken and Cauliflower bites are off - trust me if they ever bring them back they are a must. This go round my wife had an Asian bowl and I had a burger. Both were cooked to order and very tasty. The star of the afternoon was the white sangria. My wife who loves a red version of the drink made by yours truly settled on the white. If we could have taken the stuff home we would have ordered a second pitcher. The server was mum on the ingredients but spring, summer or fall this drink rocks.

That was one hellva of Pho. Delicious and filling. Tastefully washed down with an old fashioned that was delicious. Cocktails were fantastic. Great place for Pickering.

Calamari and the spinach dip (notice the burnt chips?)

This is the newly opened restaurant at pickering Town Centre. It is located in between Starbucks and the Cineplex vip theatre. Came for a late lunch around 4pm. Glad to see employees wearing face masks and a sanitizer upon entry. They have a beautiful patio but we decided to eat inside. Happy hour from 3-5pm with $4.75 pints of beer and multiple offerings of appetizers and entrees. I ordered the calamari (5/5) and the spinach and artichoke dip (3/5) for my appetizer. The calamari had a spicy mayo (soooo delicious, you can taste the spice compared to other spicy mayo), and wasn't greasy at all. The spinach and artichoke dip had chips that were burnt and tasted really bitter but it was rectified immediately. See photos for the colour difference - it was pretty stark. The dip itself needed more salt which they provided in a shaker - its Himalayan pink salt which is delicious!! As well, the chips are really plain, I had to add salt to that as well (it should be salted as soon as it is made)!! It felt weird that they included sour cream and salsa to the dish as well - they should make a nachos dish to utilize it. For my entree we both ordered the state main burger(5/5). Burger was super juicy, not too much sauce, good veggie ratio. My partners reaction upon having a bite: "holy sh**". The fries were excellent, we asked for it to be made extra burnt and they nailed it! Service was impeccable. The server Janicene was very polite and helpful without hovering too much. I noticed however that it wasn't busy and so the servers were sitting by the front talking (I'm fine with that except I was seated closeby and felt awkward hearing their convo lol) All in all a good experience I'll definitely be back again!

3.5 stars. This place was ok. Just ok. It's very similar to a Moxie's or a Joey's. We came for a late lunch and it's very nice inside and they do have a decent patio. The service was great! Our server was lovely and very attentive/pleasant! The food was a tad overpriced, and honestly, just OK. We ordered the margaritas, which were delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip was alright. Priced at $13, it was good but really nothing fancy or special about it. It also came with salsa and sour cream but we had to ask for more chips. The main burger was good! The style of the burger was 'smashed' and the bun was quite good. The fries are thick cut and seasoned but I did receive some really cold fries on my plate. My friend had the truffle and shrimp rigatoni and for over $24, it was definitely not worth it. Not very truffle-y at all and the sauce seemed to just be warm table cream. Probably wouldn't come back anytime soon.

    Sheena Y.

A new spot in Pickering and it doesn't disappoint. Food is good, prices are reasonable and portions are pretty good. Must try the rigatoni, it's one of my faves! They also have happy hour so some of food and drinks are cheaper! Definitely a great new addition in Pickering!

We ordered eggs benedict with by far the best Hollandaise sauce you can get. The poached eggs were medium with lots of yolk to spread on the peameal bacon and english muffin. The shredded potato hashbrown is addictive and massive portions. The baked beans were nice and warm to compliment your breakfast. I ordered the 3 eggs over easy with 3 sausages and 3 bacon. They actually serve 4 eggs which I assume they are using medium sized eggs. That's OK as the extra makes up for the smaller eggs. You get a choice of toast ( white, whole wheat or rye) along with shredded potato hashbrowns or home fries. My mother-in-law ordered the Western Omelet with ham and onion. She really enjoyed the dish and she managed to eat almost half of the dish. The coffee is bottomless and the service is very friendly. I was in the eastern end of Scarborough, close to Pickering. I first thought of having breakfast for lunch. I would only have 45 minutes to enjoy my food at the nearest breakfast joint. I felt like a steak. I did a search for Chuck's Roadhouse and this one in Pickering was close by. I drove over there, which took roughly nine minutes. It's located in a small plaza. I managed to find a parking spot fairly close to the entrance. I backed my car into the spot and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a friendly woman. She asked me whether I wanted to sit at the bar or the dining area. I went with the latter. I got a menu. I visit Chuck's regularly that I have my usual order. I got the following items: - Diet Coke - Sirloin and lobster tail meal with mashed potatoes and gravy I upgraded my fries. I got mashed potatoes with gravy instead. I asked for a medium doneness for my steak. I placed my order with Domnica, who was extremely attentive and friendly. I needed to use the washroom. I headed over there, dodging two male servers who were kind to get out of the way. My bladder needed attention after three hours of hydration. The women's washroom was clean. There were three stalls. The one that I used was clean. The lock didn't lock properly, but it was good enough to not let anyone in. I got back to my booth and my Diet Coke was on the table. It was cold, fizzy, and delicious. I ended up having a couple of refills during my time here. It was great that I had a huge screen with four different sports happening. I saw the Colorado Avalanche crush the Detroit Red Wings. The Winnipeg Jets pre-game show was on after a women's tennis match. I watched women's curling from Mississauga. There was Formula 1 racing that I had to ignore because any sport on an ice surface interests me a lot more these days. My server put bottles of Chuck's steak sauce and Heinz ketchup on my table. I didn't use any of them, but was glad that I had options. It didn't take long for my meal to arrive. It looked so good. I was so hungry that I went into devour mode. My steak was excellent. It was seasoned nicely and cooked as I liked it to be. So good! The lobster tail was succulent. The clarified butter was excellent with the lobster tail morsels. Frankly, I ended up dunking everything into the butter. My mashed potatoes were so comforting. I usually pour the gravy over the mashed potatoes. I did the reverse. It was enjoyable dunking mashed potatoes into the flavourful gravy. I also dunked sirloin cubs into the gravy. Yum! The corn was yummy. I'm so glad that it's no longer corn on the cob. It's so much easier shovelling kernels of yumminess into my mouth. My server asked if I wanted anything else. I was stuffed. I got the bill. I paid with a credit card. I held my phone to the payment machine after specifying a tip. Done! I stayed a bit longer to finish my Diet Coke while watching the Jets pre-game show. I then used the washroom before heading out. The scary part was walking into the washroom with three loud women speaking Vietnamese to one another. The oldest woman did not lock her stall properly, so I saw more than I had wanted. What I don't get is that these two woman walked the third woman over to the washroom. They stood in front of the sink. Shouldn't they have noticed that the door was wide open? They were loud talking to one another after this incident. Personally, I would have been mortified if someone had seen me partially naked in a public washroom. I came out of the stall to wash my hands. The two women were staring at me. I stared right back with my you-didn't-help-your-friend-and-I-need-therapy-now stare. They stopped looking at me. So weird. Other than seeing a half-naked woman, I had a great lunch here. (53)

My steak looked great but was cooked much closer to well done than my preferred medium rare. It was tough so I had to have it re-fired. Tip: Sign up for Perkins rewards for discounts on food and more…read more Two Saturdays ago, I was in the area and noticed this Perkins across the street. I don't frequent Pickering as much as I used to. It was new to me. I flagged checking it out in my head. Last Saturday, I dropped by for a late lunch after completing my errands. My first visit at a Perkins restaurant was in Winnipeg. I loved going there after a midnight shift to get pancakes and more. Sadly, Winnipeg doesn't have any Perkins eateries left. When I lived in the States, there was one Perkins in Rochester, MN. It's still there. I'm so glad. As a resident, I went there for a team lunch and when I was peckish for some breakfast. This eatery is in a plaza. It's next to Shawarma Royale and across from Dairy Queen, which are also new to me. I parked steps away from the entrance. It's wasn't all that busy at 2:30 pm on a Saturday. I walked in. I saw the sign to wait to be seated. I did while taking photos. It didn't take long for a nice woman to come over. She brought me to a booth. I thanked her. This woman wasn't my server, but did get me a Diet Coke. It was a bit off in flavour. I'm not sure if it was the ratio of syrup to carbonated water, or maybe the water. My refill was much better and the carbonation was great. Patricia would end up being my server. She came over and asked if I was ready to order. I was! I got these items: - French toast with scrambled eggs and sausage links - Diet Coke She came over to bring a warm bottle of maple syrup. It was a nice touch. My food didn't take long to arrive. It looked yummy. I thanked her and went to town. The French toast slices were excellent. They had a bit of powdered sugar on top. Not a lot. Just the right amount. I slathered on some butter on each slice and then poured the warm maple syrup on top. Delicious! They were crispy and chewy where they should be. The sausage links were nicely browned and had some nice crispness. Yummy! I liked my scrambled eggs. Perfect! No complaints here. The only downside was that my server didn't really check on me, except for the Diet Coke refill when I was practically done with my meal. She checked on everyone else, which was a bit odd. When I got my drink refill, she gave me my bill. What if I wanted a slice of chocolate french silk pie? You didn't ask. You simply presumed that I was done. I signed up for Perkins rewards. I have some perks that are waiting or me to use. Although Perkins is American, I've noticed that this eatery wants to tell you that it's Canadian-owned. The ketchup in French's, which is Canadian. There's also a huge Canadian flag when you enter this restaurant. I paid at the table. My server gave me the payment machine. I paid with a credit card by tipping and tapping. Done! I used the washroom before I headed home. The washrooms are by the entrance. The women's washroom was clean. The stall that I used was also clean and decent. It's a good Perkins. I'd return for more good eats. I hope that someone checks up on me as much as the other customers in the eatery. (409)

I remembered seeing this Moxie's near Pickle Barrel the last time I was at The Shops at Pickering City Centre (formerly Pickering Town Centre). Moxie's has better happy hour hours than Pickle Barrel. I'd make it to the former for the 2 pm till 5 pm period. It didn't take long for me to drive from eastern Markham to this shopping mall. It's a bit crazy to weave through it, but I got a decent parking spot fairly close to the eatery's entrance. It was raining, so I walked in wearing a hoodie, armed with an umbrella. I was promptly seated at a comfy booth. I was near the washrooms, although I didn't see a sign saying that it was the path to them. Weird. Folks walking in and out of the corridor tipped me off. Daelynn was my server. It was busy at this eatery at around 2:30 pm. She was nice. I do like happy hour menus these days. You can save a bit, which I appreciate. I started with these items: - Diet Coke - Absolut sippin' soda with bellini - Steak frites My boozy bellini soda came to me first. It's basically a slushy bellini soda with Absolut vodka. For $6, it was enjoyable. However, the bellini peachy flavour was subtle. I would have preferred a more bold, juicy peach taste. I got a Diet Coke. It was fizzy and cold. Sadly, it took forever to get a refill from my server. A friendly bartender who happened to walk by to pick up my empty glass offered to fill it up a couple of times. Yay! My steak frites came out. It was so good. It was regularly $38. The happy hour price made it $27. Such a steal these days! I got my steak medium. It had the best chimichurri on top. The steak was perfectly done. Yummy! I got an arugula salad as a side that was unexpected. I tore through it. It was fresh and delicious. I ended up dabbing bites of my salad into the chimichurri. Even my fries went into it. My fries were crispy. It came with ketchup. They were fine, but I loved the arugula salad more. I got dessert. I went with a key lime pie without any whipped cream. It arrived as specified. I love key lime pie. It was tart and yummy. The crust was perfect. It wasn't dry. It wasn't full of moisture. It was perfect. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. Done! I used the washroom before I left. It was clean and nicely maintained. No issues. If you are tall, you may want to take care getting up from your booth if there's a hanging lamp. I didn't and hit my head on the one above my booth. Luckily, I didn't hit my head on it hard. I'd returned again for more good eats and drinks. Maybe I should try happy hour during the weekday, as it probably won't be as hectic. (174)

We had to move the table because there was no room to sit down. We ordered 2 Moxies signature dishes. The Chipotle mango chicken $31.75 and the Mushroom Sirloin. Both dishes were executed and presented well. The chicken breast had nice charred marks along with delicious ancient grains rice, grilled veggies and avocado pico de gallo. The complexity of flavours and textures made this dish a standout. I highly recommend this main. The mushroom sirloin was a masterpiece. The mushroom madeira sauce complimented the thick piece of sirloin broiled to perfection at medium rare. The mash potatoes were creamy and the seasonal veggies were again delicious. We order 2 Mexican Bulldogs which are margaritas with a Coronita put upside down in the margarita bowl glass. Nice salted rim and limes to garnish. One critique I would say is that I wish the margarita was more frozen and less watery. We ordered the dry ribs for our appetizer. The ribs had a nice light crispy batter. My wife loved the ribs. Aside from the initial issues we enjoyed the food and will definitely come back for the culinary experience. The server was kind and polite. She checked on us to ensure we enjoyed the food. We did have to remind her to bring us appetizer plates for the dry ribs. Just some minor tweaks in service and the experience would be 5 stars.

You're always going to pay more for halibut (which I prefer) but the haddock, cod and hake are considerably less expensive. Overall, the meal was okay but as mentioned above, the stars go to Sophia. Customer service is definitely this girl's vocation. She was quick, attentive and just gave off good vibes.

Amazingly, this place has been in Pickering since the mid-1960's, longer than I've been in…read morePickering, or even alive for that matter! For ages, we passed by Big M, noting its classic retro vibe and steady flow of customers. For years, we brushed off the recommendations of Pickering friends, but now, we have finally decided to stop by for a burger. There is outdoor seating only, so in the winter, Big M is a take-out only restaurant. Nevertheless, it was doing a brisk business at 6:00 on a Saturday. We each ordered Banquet Burgers (cheese and bacon). My husband and daughter ordered fries; I went for onion rings. They also each ordered a milkshake. Our opinion was united in that the burgers, shakes, fries and onion rings were exactly what the traditional, retro décor would lead us to expect. You'll not find surprising toppings or artisanal brioche buns at Big M, nor will you encounter the trending smash-burger. Rather, Big M succeeds because it delivers a fantastic version of the sort of burger that your Dad or Grandpa might have grilled up, or the burgers from that retro diner that you parents may or may not have dropped by on their way to the cottage that your family may or may not have visited or owned. Even if these weren't part of your childhood experiences, Big M serves up great traditional fare. Our burgers were made to order as we watched, and had a pleasantly browned and smoky finish, flame-licked by the grill, fresh, tasty toppings. The burger patty itself was neither thick nor thin, but classic 1/2 inch or so. The toasted Kaiser roll stayed crispy, and survived the trip home without getting soggy. The onion rings were the old fashioned, somewhat ponderous kind, as opposed to a lighter tempura style batter, and I relied on my husband to finish eating them on my behalf. But that substantial batter was exactly the right choice to pair with a traditional burger. The shakes were also traditional milk shakes, as opposed to, simply, "shakes", which may or may not contain actual milk or ice cream. The take-away: Big M is what it appears to be, a classic diner offering simple, diner-style fare. As such, it delivers a satisfying meal that more than meets the expectations: words like retro, traditional and home-style spring to mind. If you are in search of a trending, cheffy and possibly pricy experience (and I do tend to flock to those, when budget permits!), then Big M is probably not for you. However, for well-executed, basic, down to earth cooking, Big M serves up an excellent retro experience at a reasonable price. I'll be back to try the Whistle Dog (cheese and bacon) and the Canadian burger (Cheese and Peameal), plus another order of those indulgent onion rings.

The best burger I've had in the GTA!!…read more It was amazing. The bun wasn't soggy, all of the ingredients were high quality and well made. The sides are also really good. I've tried the onion rings, poutine and fries and they're all GREAT. Although make sure you hydrate because I did feel the effects of having a salty lunch afterwards The diner calls themselves a "drive-in" but it's more of an outdoor diner/to-go place. Most of the seating is outdoors and picnic table style. The service was wondering. Everyone is really nice and you feel welcome going here.
