The Portly Piper in Ajax is definitely not your typical pub. In addition to all the drinks, bar snacks, and pub fare, they offer some really good food with generous portions at decent prices. I recently joined some friends for an evening out and we were more than satisfied. We were actually quite stuffed! Our entree choices included Lobster Pasta, Lamb Chops, Chicken, and more! Of course, we started with several rounds of appetizers, including a deep fried platter, a seafood platter, nachos, and more. The Lemon Pepper wings were a standout to me! They were large, crispy, and very flavourful! They're also half price on Monday evenings! Of course, we took advantage of their extensive drink menu with an assortment of cocktails and shots! Our server did an amazing job of keeping up with us! It was a good evening! If you haven't been here, check them out! They're located on Bayly Street in Ajax, between Westney and Harwood. They also have another location in Oshawa.

It was a busy Sunday early evening dinner. Staff will take your temperature once you enter. Each cubicle of table has its own TV to watch sports. I choose the patio area. Food is OK and the serving is huge. Price is reasonable. Friendly staff and lots of parking.

Customer Service: Due to covid, protocols were appropriate. Friendly staff and amazing owner. Not a very long wait. Regardless of how busy they could get, staff is always accommodating Food: Hands down, my favorite pub in Durham Region. Meals always come fresh and hot. My go to is their popular chicken wings- served big and flavorful. All their appetizers are tasty but I enjoy their nachos- such a great way to get started. They have a variety of dishes from breakfast, to asia delights, pastas, seafood, wraps/sandwiches/burgers and finger foods. Proportions are perfect and filling

I've been regularly coming to the Portly since I turned 19 (12 years ago :|) This place is without a doubt the best pub in Durham. Reasonably priced DELICIOUS food, an easy-going vibe, and great staff. I've never had anything there that I didn't like. The nachos are still the best I've ever had at a restaurant despite me trying to find an equally good place in Toronto for years! Some other top picks are their wings; spicy Thai and Lemon Pepper, and French Onion Soup

I wouldn't call this place a 'pub' but rather a sports bar. There are TVs in every booth and plenty around the bar. The music was played at various levels throughout our visit and was sometimes annoying and/or too hard (it just didn't suit the atmosphere at the time). We were there on a Saturday for lunch and to my surprise, the majority of the patrons seemed to be in the 60+ range... of course, we were there with my parents so that didn't help matters either. There lunch menu has a wide variety of food most of which is under $10.00 but you can also order from their main menu with prices ranging between $10.00 - $14.00. We ordered: Bangers and Mash - $10.99 (from the main menu) Wings and Salad - $8.99 (lunch menu) Lasagna with Garlic Bread - $7.99 (lunch menu) Soup and Corn Beef on a Kaiser - $7.99 (lunch menu) Since I have to try every restaurant's Bangers and Mash, that was my main. They serve it in the traditional fashion with baked beans on the side however, they also covered it in fried mushrooms and onions which actually added a nice touch. The bangers on the other hand were like little stubby sausages and really fatty... not my idea of a proper banger. Two stars for that dish. The Lasagna looked so good that I had to have a bite. I wish I had ordered that instead! The picture doesn't do it justice but the portion size was quite large. It was so cheesy and meaty and the pasta was cooked perfectly. A really nice dish. The wings were really plump and meaty. The order included five wings, carrot and celery sticks and your choice of side. My husband opted for the Caesar Salad. I must say, the 'ranch' dressing that is served with the wings is home made and is to die for! If you like garlic, you'll LOVE this. The Soup and Corn beef on a Kaiser was served with a side of coleslaw and although I didn't get a chance to try it, it looked quite nice and my father seemed to enjoy it. Again, great portion size for the money! Oh... and one more thing... Now I must say, I'm not one that is often willing to venture into a restaurant loo but these took me by surprise! Wall to wall marble and they're immaculately clean! It was almost as if you were stepping into a spa... quite strange if compared to the rest of the atmosphere, but in a nice way. Overall, even though I wasn't all that pleased with my meal, the rest of the experience was fine and the menu has a plentiful selection sure to please the masses. The service was quick and friendly and the loo's are fantastic. What more can you ask for?

Omg. The portions are huuuge and prices are reasonable. We ordered jambalaya and risotto and each can feed 3 people easily and have left overs for the next day. They were both heavy boxes and stuffed with seafood and meat, huge chunks of lobster in risotto were a surprise. Their small fries (sweet potato fries comes with delicious smoked sauce) looks like large in a lot of big chan places and their calamari were soft, melting in your mouth (with good breading) and not just a few, we could barely finish it. I highly recommend this place. Great value for your $.

When it first opened. It was much better. Last year or so food quality has gone down. Prices have gone up we stopped going.

I've long since moved back to Durham, so I set my eyes on the Ajax location. We headed over for lunch on a Saturday. The sun was shining and the patio was calling us! After a look at the menus, we were delighted to see that they had brunch until 3pm! That sealed the deal. My man ordered Our Original Benny and I chose Brekky Pie. Even though we hadn't eaten breakfast yet, we couldn't resist ordering a pint. The been menu was impressive and diverse. I tried Shock Top and he tried Red Stripe. He LOVED the eggs benedict. He used all of his homefries to eat ALL of the sauce. His plate was clean in record time....and then he started eating MY homefries. GRR! My Brekky Pie was delicious. The pastry was flaky and tasty. The scrambled egg inside was full of fresh veggies an Guinness bratwurst...holy crap. I'd like to try those brats alone, because they were DAMN good. The service was great and did not hesitate to offer suggestions when we were unsure. I really liked this place. It had a great vibe. I'd like to try more of their food and beer selection! It's nice to see that pub food doesn't only consist of nachos and wings!
