When it comes to pub food, this place exceeds expectations. The food portions are big and the quality is also very good. Special mention to their wings- it's not overly fried and only has a thin coat of batter, their sweet chilli Thai sauce was my favorited. Besides the food, there are many diff beers on tap as well and the staff there are very nice. The place itself is quite small so they might have trouble fitting in a bigger group. We come to this plaza a lot and have never walked into this pub because we always go to McDonald's for the kids. This time we decided to give it a try and we were so pleasantly surprised! An awesome menu! All the pub favorites that have decent prices and generous portions. I was so happy to actually see all my favourite meals on one menu! Steak and mushroom pie or Sheppard's pie? How to decide? I went with shepherd's pie and was not disappointed! It was delicious! Burgers are gigantic! And the fish and chips was so crispy. They also have a very extensive kids menu! This pub has been here quite a long time and I have been coming here on and off since high school basically with various friends. The food overall is quite decent, though it has gotten worse over the years. The interior is dated but what really is the thing that stands out the most is that overall the service is like "dr Jekyll and mr hyde". Usually all the servers I have dealt with over the years has been good, but they can be a bit sassy. Recently though I have been on the receiving end of extra sass. I went here on a Saturday night with 5 other folks whom all ordered drinks and plenty of apps, I was the last one out of the group to come. I didnt feel like a drink that night so just wanted water and to have some food. The bill came out to well into the $150 to $200 range. When I sat down the server came, I told them I just wanted water. After giving me my water they came back 5 minutes later asking what I would like, which I repeated just the water was fine. The server exclaimed "your just loitering?!" then walked off. I dont know how others feel but that didnt sit well with me, but fine I let it slide. Recently I went to their half price wings day. 8 wings cost $17 so half price is fair. My other half ordered water while I just got a coke. Ordered wings, happily eat it and then asked for the bill. Was greeted with an extra $2.75 on the bill charging for the water? I let the server know that one of us got water. She proceeded to say "ah theres a minimum charge for a drink for the wings, otherwise everyone would come in and get water with the wings". Fair enough but when we ordered the wings no one told us there was a minimum drink purchase needed. No where on the menu did it mention that either. The reply was "well its still a good deal". I was in a rush and didnt want to bother arguing at the time. The server didnt bother to apologize, offer to give the drink at the end or anything. So here I am writing a review Overall decent food, service is fair enough if you stay on their good side at best but expect some sass. You won't be disappointed if you don't have super high expectations. A few things I've ordered: - Beef liver with bacon: I didn't taste this dish. According to my friend, the liver is average but the veggie is super yummy. It also comes with big portion. - Chicken pot pie: The pie crust is really tasty, chicken tastes a bit dry. Not too many surprises from this dish. - Calamari: It tastes alright after re-heating up. Again, nothing special. - Fish taco: I really don't enjoy the heavy flavouring of this dish. It adds a lot of burdens to my tasting buds. It's too sour and unevenly salted. This is a long time pub that I've known as long as I've lived in Richmond Hill. I finally went for drinks there the other night and I thought this was a really good watering hole. They have a good selection of beers, some good prices and a nice selection of pub food. Our server was pretty attentive, they have a lot of TVs with sports games on and a nice friendly vibe. I just moved into the area. I started going to King Henry's Arms in September. The food is good, but the service has always been poor, or average at best. On Monday, October 16., it was especially bad. The server walked past me 3 times before stopping the fourth time to ask if I wanted a drink and a menu. She brought my beer and a menu, the walked past me many time without even looking towards me. After ten minutes, she finally asked if I was ready, and I sparkly replied I was ready 10 minutes ago. She replied she was "busy" The restaurant was only half full. After 15 years in hospitality, mostly in management and training and usually at very busy establishments (for example Pizza Hut at Yonge and Carlton, Don Cherry's on Blue Jay Way, FRAN's Restaurants) , I can say with 100% confidence, this is due to poor efficiently. The servers ALL have tunnel vision (this was my 12 visit in 4 weeks) . They go to one table, then return to the service area without looking at any other tables. I have watched and been ignore every single time I visit by every server who served me - I return because I live nearby and the food is good . This time, I said something. Soon another server brought my food and berated me for complaining the the other server. The excuse is they are "busy". In my opinion, they are very extremely inefficient. Then Maranda (maybe a manager) came over and the two people started criticizing me. She said she was only trying to mediate while criticizing me. She told me they have been in business for 22 years (implying the must be perfect - and reminding me of FRAN's attitude in the last few years) ... needless to say, I left and was told never to return. Must be nice to be so good you don't need regular customers and give perfect service.... or at least think this is true .... and scare away a new regular customer. BOTTOM LINE: Food is good. I was wrong. the food was amazing! the BLT sandwich had crispy loads of bacon. so perfect with fluffy fries. my friend had a burger he couldn't hold in one hand. We've been here a couple of times in the past week or so, and we've really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food at King Henry's Arms! My partner and I moved up to Vaughan in early 2021, but due to COVID restrictions, we haven't explored some of the local places to the extent that we normally would. However, we found King Henry's Arms on a google search while looking for a pub/sports bar to watch the Raptors-Sixers playoff game 5, and that's where we landed. Over two visits (because we also came back for the fated game 6), we got fantastic service from all of the staff and really enjoyed our food. We shared the curry fries - basically french fries with a generous portion of chicken curry on top -and at first, we kept saying "I'm not sure if this combination works"...but before we knew it, we had devoured the entire portion (As an aside, MAN that curry is delicious!). Our second visit, we got the nachos and added ground beef and guac, which were great. It didn't look like a generous portion at first but it was a TON of nachos (they're stacked high on a smaller plate rather than spread out on a big plate). We also ordered a pound of wings with the tequila lime BBQ sauce and omg, talk about GOOD. The menu says the wings are award-winning, and I can understand why! The staff is also extremely friendly. All of our waitresses were friendly, attentive without hovering, and came over at the exact right parts of the game where you don't really need to pay attention. What a skill! Haha! We were also given a card for a free appetizer after our first visit, which paid for the nachos on our 2nd visit. The vibe here is friendly and "cozy" - we've definitely found a place where we can come back to for a drink, quick bite, and to watch a basketball game. Great craft beer selection: highly recommend Piney McPine Face (yup that's the real name) for those that like smooth hoppy beers. Food is great too for those that like simple pub food done well. Peter and Anders the owners, Nella and Miranda (incredible bartender/servers/human beings and basically everyone else that works there is awesome. They make you feel like you're family when you're there. Highly recommend coming on a Sunday for open mic hosted by a very talented host! Female server with the short haircut tried to tell me where I can and cannot sit while sitting in a booth, next to another empty booth. Trying to tell me she has to move me because "they're busy". food is good but she's clearly one of those problem seekers, as I've sat in the same booth every time I go with no issue. I spend $60-$80 every time I go there and always tip well. There were chicken bones on the ground under the table. When I moved, there was no other seating than the empty booth. So I was moved for no reason, I've just lost my view of the game I came to that shitty bar to watch. I've only been once, but I went with my friend who is a regular. It had a great feel to the establishment, lots of regulars who come in for a drink. The food was really good for the price. I had the mac and cheese, and it came out still bubbling. It was a little watery, but for $12, it was not bad at all. You can add more toppings for $1/topping, and I went for tomatoes and jalapenos. I would recommend adding at least one more item. But more impressive were the curry fries. Absolutely amazing. They are certainly very addictive, and I would go back solely for those fries. It is a must try if you go check this place out! The only complaint I would have was it took a while for the food to come out. I came around 2:30pm on a Sunday, and there were not a lot of people. Love their beer selection but the food item was more a miss 80% of the time. Just don't ever order their Yorkshire pudding dipping. It was burnt and bitter outside and not cooked inside. The waitress at first told us that 's how it suppose to be?! But after I insisted, she ended up taken it off the bill +0.5 star. Mon-Fri half price app which is ok price as I doubt I would have paid $7.50 for the basket of onion rings or waffle fries. I used to go here a lot. I would drop about 150 a week here at one point. The food was good, it was near my place, and it was a good excuse to get out of the house because I was in a rough time in my life. After one experience though, I never went back.. It was when Toronto raptors were in the championship, and I went there to watch the game with everyone. With how busy it was, I wasn't upset when a certain waitress took the remainder of my food away when I was in the bathroom. It wasn't a big deal, and we laughed about it, I saw her regularly and she was normally really easy going and we would even have drinks when she was done with work. and she said "again, I assumed you were finished so." while laughing, and while laughing I said "well, you know what they say about assumptions" and she asked what, I ended up telling her "well the saying goes it makes an ass out of you and me" lol. And she completely lost it! She started to call me names, yell at and curse me out. Then she went to the waitress behind her, and started talking about me and both were calling me a "a-hole d-bag" and pretty much putting me in a very uncomfortable position. It was pretty hard to feel bad if I said anything wrong after that reaction. In fact, they regularly curse and make jokes, most at the expense of customers, and it was a mutual moment of comedy where we were laughing about her taking my food away lol. She came back a few minutes later while I was paying for my food and basically deciding if I will ever go back there again. When she came up to me and dropped, not placed, dropped a plate of fries in front of me and said "here, you effin happy now?" I apologized to her for the miscommunication and if I had offended her, handed the food to another customer who was a regular and left. In fact, I kept my mouth shut basically the entire time, except to apologize to her. Which she accepted very pompously. Sometimes even I take a good place for granted - guilty. You all know what I mean. You visit regularly, you eat their food, drink their booze and then don't call or visit for awhile. It's a sad trait and when it happens to a place like King Henry's in Richmond Hill I feel extra bad because they're often overlooked but are doing so many amazing things in this Richmond Hill staple that they deserve our patronage. Like, did you know that King Henry's has one of THE best rotating selections of Craft Beers on tap here? True story. I would challenge you to find a spot in the Hill that has had more OCB's on draft then KHA. Heck they even signed up to have the extremely limited edition Yelp beer on tap when Great Lakes developed it in November of 2014. But is the beer enough to make you venture to this plaza at the corner of 16th and Yonge? Probably not unless you're a Hop-Head purist. So here's another reason, their food is bloody fantastic. From simple pub foods like wings, which are massive, to their unique offerings like pot pies (kidnet, steak, chicken, etc) without the pie portion (more of a stew with pie crust laid on top), KHA has the eats that make your tummy feel good! Now I've read some reviews mentioning that the space is touch dated and while that may be true, it's only a matter of time before it gets a facelift but that isn't important to me. What I love about this place is all that I've mentioned before plus the awesome staff and quirky regulars. The regulars are an awesome bunch whom you can find seated around the bar at all hours talking sports and even some nonsense sipping on domestic ales for hours at a time. I've sat amongst them and while they bare the prickly exterior of the a-typical regular, their the nicest gang and welcome most folks into their conversation (provided you've got something of merit to add in). Since the closing of Canadian Tire and Futureshop in the area, you might not have the added drive to venture into the plaza, but if you're considering the McDonalds next door, simply part your car and come in, you'll be much happier with your choice, the food and heck the prices aren't too bad either. I had never really paid attention to King Henry's Arms because I like some places more fancy than this place. My bf likes to come here some of the times and so I tried this place before. I tried their pub food but I did not find the food special to me. It was very possibly because I felt that it was not my place lol. King Henry's is my go to local bar. I can confidently say that I have been to this bar more than any other bar in my life. Whenever I feel like going for a drink, a bite, watching a game, meeting a friend, or whatever the case may be, I typically head over to Henry's. I've been frequenting this bar ever since my older brother took me there when I was 15 or 16 years of age. He was a regular, and per the usual knew everyone in there, so if I strolled in with him I was good. Long story short, this is a bar I have always felt very comfortable in. You might be thinking this is a fancy or sleek looking bar with amazing food, service, and big flat screens, but it's really just a simple ordinary bar with an old fashioned styled décor. The venue itself is not all that big but uniquely layed out. There is a decent sized bar near the entrance and 5 or 6 tables slightly elevated to the left of the entrance. Towards the back are roughly a dozen booths which are fairly tight to the point where 4 people in a booth would be uncomfortably cramped. Solid for a date however ;) The food is traditional pub grub and doesn't take forever to come out like some other bars. I almost always order the King's cheese fries: A sizeable dish of fat fries, smothered in gravy, bacon, cheese, and subsequently baked to sh!t. Aside from that stroke, the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich is soild, as are the fajitas and Arms Burger. Please note I claim the food to be solid, the food isn't blow you out of the water incredible, but def hits the spot. Other notable mentions include Hoeegarden and Guiness on tap, clean washrooms and good service. Okay, the experience was pretty close to a lazy evening at home, minus the PJ, The sheppard pie was delicious. The mush potato was very soft and fluffy but not overly buttery. The meat pie portion was rich in flavour and thick and loaded with meat. The bean was super good; it didn't seem to be from a can or is there super high quality canned beans? To our surprise, the food was fantastic. I had lamb shank and my husband had fish and chips. Both were delicious. I liked that the side veggies of the lamb shank were nicely cooked with butter. And the Mac n cheese was home made! I trust a restaurant that makes decent kids menu, not from frozen food such as fish sticks out of frozen box or kraft Mac n cheese box. My daughter finished all her dish which is unusual for this small eater. The server was friendly and personable. Ok, my mac and cheese was a little bland, but there was so much I liked about this place that it didn't even matter. The Yorkshire Pudding Dippers were amazing. I could've had two. Highly recommend those. They also had a deal going on when we were there (which our server didn't tell us about, it was like a pleasant surprise when we got our bill) which was half priced apps. I wish I could remember what time it ran through. The old cushions on the benches sank when you sat into them but I didn't mind. I like the vibe of this place. King Henry's Arms is a hidden gem in the heart of Richmond Hill. Its located beside the McDonalds on Yonge and 16th right across from Hillcrest Mall. It's a bit small and run down, and in need of a makeover but everything else about the place is Bueno. The place always has a great selection of craft beer. One that was there that I don't usually see was Flying Monkey craft beer straight out of Barrie, Ontario. Also the service has been pretty exceptional since the servers are usually very sociable and have a great sense of humour. I very seldom find servers that will take the time to have a conversation with you and make you feel at home. I usually come here for a brew and a small bite, and I will continue to do so because this place deserves it. Also, I didn't event even know this place took Vicinity until recently. Love the KHA. A very underrated place and a hidden gem. The kitchen turns out some amazing food. Highly recommend the lamb shank, the jacko wings (fried, sauced, and then oven caramelized!), and the chicken curry. OMG the chicken curry. So good.
