This is an okay pub. I'd give them some slack for trying to operate during these pandemic times. I haven't visited this place before the pandemic, so I can't speak to how it was before. There was a wonderful lovely atmosphere! The servers are all lovely--kudos for them working in this pandemic! They made adequate measures to operate during the pandemic. The patio they set up was very aesthetic, but it was a tiny bit dark for reading the menu. The food itself...wasn't great. I'm sort of surprised every item strikes out, so I think a few drinks are necessary to not realize it. The payment process was a little awkward. The machine couldn't actually process the payment outside, it's too far for the signal apparently. The waitress had to run inside right after every payment so the machine can be in-range. Took a bit longer this way, but I guess patio wasn't the usual setup the pub was used to.

Hmmm. Left or right! BOTH!!!! :D

Sometimes you got to take away the granite, the wooden accents, massive HD TV, sponsored bottle-wall of latest booze, and even the young'uns of the LBDM. That's because you just want some booze and some eats, without paying for all the glitz that comes with the current offerings of new fashioned drinking holes. Really? A pint of Coor's Light (a near-beer that looks exactly like the refund you make during your bathroom break) is $9? Things are getting out of hand that a barfly may need to call it quits and take up a new hobby! So what to do when you don't want to be BESPOKE'ned? Well shed off the pretentious wear and head over to Richmond Hill's First Public House - Archibald's! Yeah...I know what you are thinking? The place is outdated, worn down, renovated a while back - but still looks worn down, and full of people that time forgot. Hey! That's the charm of the place! I'm not going to sell you the bar in this review. It's an OK place but I've recently started going back after years of LBDM taking my hard earned cash and them forgetting my name as I punch in what seems to be the 18-20% norm now for gratuities - the times are a changing from the good o'days when 20% was reserved for GREAT service - I guess they need danger pay as they freeze in those LBD. Maybe it's trying to go back to my simpler days when I was younger but the place still feels the same - and looks the same! The copious amount of amber ale of the gods coupled with near-food hot out of the microwave - especially the lasagna as the top cheese sticks and burns the roof of your mouth! Argh! You would think I would remember that! I guess that's the cost of re-initiation to the pub. Ugh. If you should venture here, pub food is standard fare. Will fill you up but not leave a burning hole in the wallet. Don't expect Michelin quality plating - they barely have plates! :D Check online for their menu. The Irish fries/nachos are pretty good. They have a great deal of daily specials. A good place to hang out to watch our teams. Basically the place is good for groups, couples, and those that HANg SOLO ... like me! 3.5/5 stars Cheers.

Why am I here at Archibald's Pub yelping away? Free Wifi? Unsecured with OK speed Beers? Granville, Caffrey's, Stiegl and few others, limited but decent selections Wings? Half priced Wings Wednesday - stay away from Cajun as it tasted like shake and bake a salty version! Football game with cheering fans? Great sport bar atmosphere A little noisy and a little dark.. maybe it is better to just chill and drink instead of yelping! Why am I yelping in a bar anyway.... Our waitress is nice enough to check on us often, keep the beers coming!! Flies season? Should I be eating fries? Why am I being attacked by flies?!

I have a love hate relationship. they have a lot of events but the food is terrible and the chairs uncomfortable. It's always kinda empty so there's no problem getting in. The regulars are nice and friendly. The wait staff phone it in but are nice. They put montreal steak seasoning on their cesars. The manager is not the nicest person. I was there once and the manager was arguing with a guy because he pointed out an error in the bill. The error was in the house's favour but she kept accusing him of cheating. Seriously.

Being a Richmond Hill local and growing up with Archibald's always within sight I feel a responsibility to protect its review rating against the negative nelly's who would disparage Richmond Hill's oldest and first pub (AHEM...Jen K...lol). What makes a "good pub", well let's think about it as a group for a second...alright class have you had time to write down your answers, well allow me to read from the answer key and as we go through the list of MUST HAVE's, we'll grade my beloved Archie's against it. 1. Multiple televisions for sports and other viewing - Archie's: CHECK! For a small pub there is no shortage of screens around, with the 2012/2013 NFL Football season kicking off last night it was actually nice to see a couple of boisterous fans getting into the game, cheering and screaming as the Giants took on the Cowboys. Yes they were loud but if you don't like people cheering for sports well then...... 2. An Eclectic mix of Beers both on Tap and by the bottle - Archie's: CHECK! This for me was a huge plus about this place, filled with amazing surprises. Who would have thought that my local spot would have Granville Island Pale Ale (a BC beer I had been searching to try) on tap! Not to mention a host of other ontario craft beers (steam whistle) and several international brands such as: Guinness, Caffrey's, Stiegl and others. - PRO TIP: Order a bucket of 4 steamwhistle's and you get to keep the bucket ($16.50) 3. Pub Fare - Archie's: CHECK! They have all the classics and don't pretend for a moment to be fine dining. Admittedly it was wing night and the Cajun wings were not so hot (I agree with Jen K here...and here only) but the Hot-Honey were as good as anywhere else that offers $5/lb wings. However, I ordered their Chicken Souvlaki with a Greek salad and it was delicious! Not to mention my salad came with an entire wedge of Feta Cheese (YA a WEDGE!!). Another one of our group ordered a BBQ chicken wrap and House Salad and had nothing but good things to say about it. One x-factor with their food was the presentation and care put into the plating of it. I've been to 'nicer' spots who took less care with the presentation of their entrees. A nice surprise! 4 Service - Archie's: CHECK! Our server was friendly and attentive, even being on the more empty side of the pub (the other side was PACKED) she check on us regularly and always made sure our glasses were topped up and all our needs were met (18% tip for her). Plus she was pretty cute (and coming here before I know they hire great looking staff ;) ) 5. Ambiance - Archie's: CHECK! The true pub feel is achieved here with exposed wood beams above and around, a classic wood and brass bar and plenty of pool tables and beer neon beer signs adorning the wall. Yes a tad on the dim side in terms of lighting but honestly how would ugly people hook up at bars if it wasnt for alcohol and dim lighting? I say keep the lights down low Archie....keep them lights down low. Pros' - Free, unsecured Wifi and despite what others might say the speed is on par with any Starbucks, Second Cup or other free Wifi spot - A patio...yes they have one and it has great seating. Patios are a rarity along Yonge in Richmond Hill and this one doesn't disappoint. Cons' - Something could be done about the couple of flies that kept bugging us at our table and the temperature where we were sitting was very warm (perhaps it was the heat of this area that was drawing the flies in). However, let's remember it IS SUMMER and flies do exist in THE SUMMER. You can't escape that, and with the high traffic moving in and out of this spot it's bound to happen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So after comparing your answers with the PUB GOLD STANDARD, what do ya have? Exactly what you came in for, good reliable food, good brews, friendly staff and sweet old spot to become a regular and watch a game or two with friends. Cheers Archibald's - here's to many more years in Richmond Hill :)

Writing this review really saddens me since there was a time when I though Archibald's was an awesome pub. I recently went here to have dinner after about a 2-3 year absence and it simply wasn't what I remember. For dinner I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita with a side Greek salad. The pita was ok but nothing special, the chicken was nicely seasoned but a tad dry, the pita it was served on was store bought and the tzatziki was lacking the garlic kick. The side Greek salad was run of the mill, the only upside was that it was served with a big hunk of feta, being a fan of cheese I enjoyed this. The bar does have a lot of taps but they are big name brands only, with the closest thing to a craft beer being Granville Island. When I inquired about their bottled beers the waitress said they had quite a few which got me excited. When I asked to see the list of bottled beers I was told there wasn't one, when I asked if they had anything from a local brewery I was told no, tisk tisk! (I did see a steam whistle sign while walking out which last time I checked was a local brewery, I hate being misinformed! However a bottle list would certainly go a long way)/ The place itself is an average bar with a few TV's, a pool table and a couple of video games, so one could kill some time here. The service was adequate but not overwhelming. I did notice that they had a couple of traditional British items on the menu (i.e. steak and kidney pie) and if I return I will give one of these a shot. Another positive is that they do have daily specials (wing night, nacho night etc). If you are in the area this maybe your best bet for a bar if you want to avoid a chain restaurant however I would not go out of my way to come here. *2.5 stars for Richmond Hill's first pub

I decided to look at the menu, saw the lobster roll, and knew that I needed to order it. I love lobster rolls. I see it on a menu and I must order it. No thought required. Done! There are three COAST locations, all ghost kitchens, in the GTA. One is in downtown Toronto. Another is at the Firkin that I used to frequent at Yonge and Eglinton. The one is Vaughan is the latest addition, which is where I went last night. I placed my order through Uber Eats for pickup: - PEI lobster roll with COAST salad - Crispy COAST shrimp - Crème brûlée cheesecake - Superbowl Sunday special (free COAST fries when your order is $40 or more) The downside is that I got a general location as to where to go to pick up my food. I got to the plaza with Nations grocery store anchoring it. Where do I go next? Well, my prayers were answered when a nice person from COAST called me and said that my order was ready. He let me know that COAST is in The Moose, which is a Firkin pub. Yes, direction! I thanked him and parked closer to the pub. The Moose looks new and modern. It has patio heaters and is open for dining in, as is many eateries in York region now. I was greeted by a nice man. He asked for my order number. I showed it on my phone and he went to fetch my order. I saw this white paper bag with handles on the bar counter. He thanked me and handed it to me. I reciprocated. I could smell the fries through my mask. I was so excited and I headed over to my car. I got home and had dinner. I bought more than I could down, so I have leftovers today that I look forward to having I had a container full of salad. The PEI lobster roll was camouflaged by it. You can choose fries or salad as your side. Considering that I was going for free COAST fries, I settled for salad. I loved how much salad I got. The veggies were crisp and fresh. All I heard was my crunching on them. The salad dressing had balsamic vinegar, but it was subtle and didn't have a ton of sugar. I liked it a lot. My lobster roll was good. The lobster had generous chunks of real lobster in aioli, with chives and seasoning. Yum! The downside was the bun. The brioche bun needed to be softer and perhaps grilled more with butter. It would have made the experience nicer. It was a smaller roll than I had hoped for $20, but I had so much food that it was minor. What surprised me the most were the crispy COAST shrimp. They were super crispy. They had a bit of spice. The baby arugula balanced out the spiciness. I thoroughly enjoyed how crispy the whisper-thin batter coating each shrimp was. Perfection! I got the COAST fries on the house. The fries tasted so homemade, as if I had cut the fries myself, and someone did a better job at deep-frying them. It had Grana Padano cheese that I had never had. It tasted like parmesan, but milder. I loved it with the spicy aioli and chives. I love chives so much. I normally don't enjoy eating fries as a side, but I could do these any day. I have been good lately by not going overboard with desserts. However, I couldn't resist getting the crème brûlée cheesecake. Sadly, my slice got tossed around a tad in the container, so the pointy part of the slice was smashed. However, I ate it all, even with the whipped cream puddle next to it. I enjoyed this cheesecake slice a lot. It wasn't terribly sweet. The berry coulis on top provided a nice tartness and contrast. The crust was thin. The cheesecake was creamy and you could taste the beautiful crème brûlée flavour in each bite. It's a winner! I am eyeing the PEI lobster poutine, and COAST surf and turf burger next. I had a great experience. Prices do run steep, but it's worth treating yourself to fresh seafood and ingredients. (114)

I imagine the patio must be great in the summer. Yonge Street is close by, but Canadians become immune to carbon monoxide is summer because we throng to any outoor space, and rhe patio is further back than many downtown Toronto patios. The vibe inside is "moneyed gastropub". Glass and wood and UK heritage. The menu is huge, so a bit of a red lag, and more like a chain pub than a gastropub. FIghting off my PTSD from the last time I ordered a non-deep fried fish from a pub, I ordered the salmon with a side of mashed potatoes. The server seemed a bit nervous, so I ran down my mental checklist. Shaved in the morning? Check. Showered? Check. Wearing clothes? Check. However, she was efficient, so no real complaints. The salmon arrived with a surprisingly nice presentation. It didn't smell like fish, so my PTSD subsided. It was a bit bland at the start, but as I got further in, the seasoning on top were quite pleasent. The peppers underneath were from frozen, and the mashed potatoes were from flakes, but it wasn't bad. Prices were at the level of any GTA gastropub. I imiagine this place is really popular with the locals, especially in summer. I can't say it's a destination, though, as there are so many pubs with the same design choices and vibe to choose from, and some have limited menus to focus on what the chef does best. But, if you're stuck at that bus stop and want a beer, I'd recommend it!
