Well, if you're stuck waiting for a Viva bus, and you want a beer, and there's nothing else around...anyway, that's why I went in. The place is gorgeous on the outside and inside. I imagine the patio must be great in the summer. Yonge Street is close by, but Canadians become immune to carbon monoxide is summer because we throng to any outoor space, and rhe patio is further back than many downtown Toronto patios. The vibe inside is "moneyed gastropub". Glass and wood and UK heritage. The menu is huge, so a bit of a red lag, and more like a chain pub than a gastropub. FIghting off my PTSD from the last time I ordered a non-deep fried fish from a pub, I ordered the salmon with a side of mashed potatoes. The server seemed a bit nervous, so I ran down my mental checklist. Shaved in the morning? Check. Showered? Check. Wearing clothes? Check. However, she was efficient, so no real complaints. The salmon arrived with a surprisingly nice presentation. It didn't smell like fish, so my PTSD subsided. It was a bit bland at the start, but as I got further in, the seasoning on top were quite pleasent. The peppers underneath were from frozen, and the mashed potatoes were from flakes, but it wasn't bad. Prices were at the level of any GTA gastropub. [Chicken Fingers] $12.99 - this dish comes with 5 chicken fingers on a bed of fries. My goodness, this is such a giant portion. I barely managed to finish half of it before asking for a take out box to take it home! The chicken fingers are delicious, as are the fries. My favorite part about good fries is when they reheat well in the toaster oven. These fries were delicious when they were first brought out, but were almost equally as delicious after being reheated! YUM. It comes with ranch or plum sauce, and as I've never taken to plum sauce, I asked for ranch. [Onion Rings] $6.99 - THESE ARE FREAKING DELICIOUS! This is also a huge portion, perfect for sharing, but also if you'd like, you can dine on these bad boys, all by yourself. They're probably the best onion rings I've ever had, in all honesty. Given the quality, and the portions of the food, I would 100% come back again if it was just based on that one factor. The glaring problem I keep coming back to, is the lack of service. I'm a little torn about this review! The food was great, the service was good. However a couple things had me perplexed! We ate on the patio which seemed a little packed considering Covid distancing rules. I'm okay with it but I can see people being uncomfortable with the closeness of the other guest. However the staff were spot on with following covid protocol! The patio was nice with plenty of umbrellas for shade, but kind of dirty. The dirtiness takes away from how nice the outdoor space is! I am willing to bet that "chef" used left over tandoori chicken (from another dish) to use in the stir fry, as the chicken was coated with something other than what one would expect on a fresh grilled piece of chicken breast. One of my rules when stir frying: keep it simple, keep it fresh, and don't over season. This stir fry was anything but. Smothered in garlic, over-seasoned, meat over cooked. No limes brought with the fajitas and a tiny container of guac which was starting to brown. All this for $24. The other couple with us ordered loaded nachos and a Greek salad. The Greek salad never arrived so our friends canceled it. This restaurant has potential: beautiful patio, great location, high net worth clientele. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I am aghast at the high prices for what you receive. I am more than happy to pay more for a quality meal, or quality drinks, but this place is absolutely ludicrous. How they can charge so much for menu items, as well as a domestic beer is beyond me. Their beer selection is mediocre at best. Since when is Rolling Rock considered a premium beer? Definitely don't waste your money here. What takes eons to build but may fall in months? Not the Roman Empire...This Pub! I was desperately waiting for this place to open. I see weekly as I go up and down Yonge Street. One time it was white in colour and then it was closed for a long time and then it was black in colour and then it was closed for a while...and so on. After what felt like eons...it opened! I made it a note to go as soon as a can. My drivebys looked good. Packed patios and that's enough for me to think it was going to be good. Sure the reviews were not good and some people thought it was over priced but hey...it's Thornhill and it's the only legitimate pub I can see for miles. Something to note, there isn't much parking here. The large parking lot belongs to the Tennis club and they are not welcoming to pub-hoppers. We squeezed the people mover against the side of the pub. I finally arrived and stepped inside. I was expecting it to be packed but the patio was semi bare and empty inside. Not a good sign indeed. We got to seat anywhere we wanted and wow....it was freezing inside! After finding a spot that didn't freeze the snot out of my nose, we sat down. The cheery server was right there with the menus and advised us that there were a couple of beers out of their lineup. No Keith's and no Boddingtons. Two on my list of likes...oh well...No probs. This is more of a house party than a restaurant. I say that because the wait staff continuously mingle with each other and with their friends/regulars that dine there. The wait staff culture is to basically hang out, primarily. And serve food/take orders as a secondary function. Some observations: our server hanging out with the host at the front desk at the patio entrance, head leaning on her shoulder -- very cute... for what seemed like 45 mins. Another server who didn't see us taking a picture of another table, backing up, and fully sitting on the edge of our table... like, her butt on our table.. lol. It was again, cute, somehow, how little the servers are conscientious about diners as a whole. Another server seen standing and drinking a shot with guests at another table. And another server spending half the night sitting at a table of some friends or maybe off-duty staffers who were dining closeby to us. Again, all very friendly and stuff.. and perhaps this would be normal for slow restaurant nights with no one in the place. But the patio was *full*. It was a beautiful night out. It was a full three hours before closing. Luckily, my wife and I are pretty relaxed people in general, and reading the reviews about the slooooow service, we didn't have high expectations. We came for drinking and a snack, at around 11 pm. Anyhow-- like I said, it's more like a house party between the servers and local/regular guests here. Who knows maybe my wife and I could become local/regulars too and maybe even get better service one day. The staff are friendly, very attractive, and the general mood was very upbeat, fun, positive. Like a Yorkville kind of night-out vibe, but in Thornhill. Our food order-- not amazing. But adequate. We only had potato skins that night, but they were just OK. Sour cream on the side. Cheese just right. Bacon too, included. Drinks were great, when they were eventually able to be re-ordered. It's open late, til 2 am, every night. In summary, it's a great nightly neighbourhood house party, on an prodigiously gorgeous patio that is the best I've ever seen in the entire GTA. Every nook of the patio is bursting with flowers and foliage and aside from being beautiful they baffle/dampen the road noise (and visually obscure the road as well!). When you sit far back enough in the patio you just don't notice road noise from Yonge and that is just fantastic. It's a very, very relaxing spot. If you want to have a good experience with good service, do NOT waste your time here. I came here with 2 friends and everything was fine until our food/drinks arrived. We had ordered 1 spinach and artichoke dip and 1 order of loaded nachos to share, and had issues with both of these. Firstly, when the spinach dip arrived, we noticed the dip was at the complete bottom of the dish, with chips thrown on top. i've never seen any restaurant present a dish this way, and it was shocking to see this. But this was the least of our issues. The chips were crushed and broken bits, the type you would find at the very bottom of an old bag, and in addition to this, it was evident that they had mixed an old bag of chips with a new bag. When we brought this up with the waitress, she did not do anything to fix the problem. The chips were so old and gross, that they wouldn't even crisp like normal tortilla chips when you'd bite into them. it's as if they assumed their customers are naive and don't know what chips are supposed to taste like! it was just shocking to see that the issue wasn't resolved even when we tried to speak with a manager. Now aside from this, when we started to eat the spinach dip, we noticed that there was something weird in it. To our surprise, there was a yellow object. I do not know HOW the chef or kitchen staff didn't notice a giant 2 inch big yellow plastic cap had been dropped into our spinach dip, but it was truly APPALLING to see something like this at a restaurant that classifies as a prominent establishment that has been running for such a long time. After discussing our issues with the waitress, we asked to see a manager and she did not allow for this, she instead brought another order of spinach dip, though again the chips were evidently from the bottom of the bag. She apologized and said we shouldn't have eaten it (how were we supposed to know until we noticed there was something IN the dip?). She did not take the items off our bill or even offer us a new dish to make up for it (for the nachos). Despite the issues we had, we tipped the waitress, however as former regulars, we will never be returning and do not recommend anyone else goes here if the current management and waiting staff remains the same. Yes, restaurants are suffering after the implications of COVID, but how do you expect customers to stay or return with this service? I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. It took at least couple years before its opening last year. I was so excited to try even though with the several bad reviews in the beginning. I went there the first time for a drink only during a late summer evening. The patio was packed and so we sat inside at the bar. The drink/beer selection was definitely limited since the bar didn't even carry Guinness. However, the bartender knew her job and was friendly. We went there again and tried the platter. Oh my, the kettle chips are awesomely good. Our waiter was not the best but friendly. The third time I went there, I was told Guinness is available now, nice! The same bartender and she is still nice. There is a live band show on every Saturday nights. I think this place is doing better than in the beginning and is keeping the place quite clean and tidy. Decoration is nice. There is a fire place at the back area. It feels cozy if you pick the lounge seating with more friends next to the fire place. What a pity that this potentially lovely location is so poorly run. Whoever posted pictures of luscious chicken fingers should have seen ours - dry, frozen food section offerings with no choice of dipping sauce as it states on the menu. The waitress started out by spraying our table with diluted bleach solution which became airborne and irritated the throat. Not to mention that bleach will ruin anything you are wearing. The fries could have been good if salted but then no salt was even available at the table. My husband had to go to the waitress and ask. Although it wasn't busy, it seemed like a long time before someone came and took our order. Service did pick up after and then we realized the girl was probably alone covering the floor. WORST SERVICE EVER! I went there for chilling with my husband. We were the only customers when we went in. We ordered beer for each and app for snacking with our beer. After we placed our order, there were another group of ppl came in. The server started to explain about their daily special which we hadn't. If I could I would give this place negative stars. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced, the worst. I had been to the Thornhill Pub many months ago and after that experience decided never to return. On Friday evening I made the mistake of meeting 3 friends at the Pub for drinks and some food, not my choice of venue. Things started well as I noticed they had changed the menu and also added a number of beers. I thought, maybe this place has changed. I was wrong, service is still the same crappy service it was months before. Our waitress disappeared with our drink orders and didn't return for 20 minutes. We also ordered food and after waiting 45 minutes I went to get the manager. When I returned to the table our food had miraculously appeared. The waitress admitted she'd been busy chatting with her friends. The manager seemed to think all was good but I told her we weren't paying for the meals given how long it took to get food and the fact the food had been sitting while the waitress was chatting. She was reluctant to comp the food so I told her she could comp the food or we were leaving and not paying for anything. She smiled and walked away from the table. We got up and left without paying for anything. When we were waiting outside for our ride another group came out and told us they had the same experience we did so they left without paying as well. I've been a customer of this nice bar and patio since day 1 of their opening. They had above average food, nicely renovated interiors and a decent patio. Over time, they started to not care so much about their customers and their food has gone absolutely downhill but up until last night, since they are the only option in the neighborhood, I would still go and have a few drinks and hangout with my friends. I had one of my worst customer service experiences there last night. I was with my friends, some didnt even speak farsi ( which apparently is the only language some of their servers know) and not only we were treated terribly the moment we walked in, but also they got all the orders wrong and didn't even give us a replacement. We asked for their manager (rightfully so and not in a Karen manner) and they said it is what it is. I was embarrassed in front of my crew and I would never give them my business ever again. The salad was cheap lettuce and an awful sauce. Chicken was obviously frozen, it was spicy even though there was no indication it would be. My friend got an extremely bland soup. My boyfriend got the halibut fish and chips and the fish portion was laughable and again, frozen. The drink prices were average but the service you get is terrible. We decided to try out one of the neighbourhoods newest places on Saturday night. We've been watching and waiting for this place to open up and last night we made it there. On entering the pub we were pleasantly surprised by how busy it was inside. There was a band playing live music kind of jazzy older music. Perhaps a little out of place for the crowd, who were predominantly in their 30's with the rest being exactly as you would expect for the burbs. We waited to be seated for a few minutes and after no one came to greet us we decided to find a place to sit for ourselves. It's nicely decorated inside with tables, booths and cosy couple seating nestled into the corners. Our waitress brought the menus quickly but took a long time to come back for the orders. This seemed to be the president set for the night. It's a big restaurant, but I could only see 4 wait staff. Just not enough for the amount of people. There were 6 of us. We placed our orders for drinks and food. The waitress asked us right away how we were going to do the bill. We told her we were splitting it into 3 couples. My order was 1/2 litre wine, seafood platter and 2 lbs chicken wings. If we'd had any idea how huge the portions were we would have ordered half the amount! Our meal came to $85. Most people in the group chose the same options. The wings were delicious each wing looked like it could have been a drumstick, smothered in a honey garlic sauce with a side of fries. The seafood had fried calamari, coconut shrimps and shrimp nuggets. Honestly, I stopped eating after the calamari and coconut shrimp. There was just too much food. We ended up taking more than half of each of our meals home. One person ordered the salmon which looked really nicely cooked. It came on a skillet with vegetables and a side of mashed potatoes. And someone else ordered the bacon burger which looked juicy and really good. The only thing to look out for is that they put feta on their garden salad. If you're not a fan, you'll have to remind them to hold it when you place your order. They are very generous with it on the salad. We had a really good night. We did not feel rushed and everyone enjoyed their food. IN the time of COVID, I would recommend you DON'T go to the Thornhill Pub. I reported them 3 times, and they finally distanced the tables and the wait staff are now wearing masks most of the time. However last night I walked over and the tables are closer. Patrons are NOT 6 ft apart. I am contacting By-Law again. Went there last night (930 pm) with a friend There is very little parking. I noticed a lot of people parked across the street (east side of Yonge st). I can imagine it'd be more difficult to find parking during the day when all surrounding businesses are open. The place was packed. The crowd there is more older 30-50 years +++ Live jazz band playing and people were dancing Patio was nice and packed The food was delicious. A little pricey but nice portions and it was on the higher scale of pub food Overall had a great time. I'm confused by some of the negative reviews. Maybe owners read them and made some changes. I hope Mike (the owner) realizes how the standard of service has declined. I was one of the first customers 3 years ago & a regular one ever since (up to a year ago) because service & food were great (the food better than the service). Since then the service has crashed. Who ever was on door entry service last Wednesday evening was the rudest waitress I have ever encountered & therefore you have lost a customer. Waitresses should be hired for their waitressing ability & not just looks and told to: 1. Keep an eye on customers when they come in 2. Ask for their order quickly instead of chatting at the bar. 3. Ask if everything is OK not only when giving the bill hoping for a tip. 4. Welcome customers as though they have some significance. 5. Notice if they sit at a non-obvious spot. On the three times I went last summer we sat at the "side lane" and could only get service when I regularly went to the bar which seemed to irritate them. 6. Although it is politically incorrect to say so the waitresses should learn sufficient English to communicate with customers. Food is awful, staff are incompetent, beer is warm, live music is awful (esp Friday night's with the old guy who plays the accordion)...these people have no clue as to run a bar or restaurant...u can sit there for hours before the dirty plates are cleared from your tab le, I've experienced this and keep going back as an experiment now, nothing ever gets better even if u politely point out their flaws to them. The patio is nice in the summer, that's about it. This is a place with much potential that should be handed over to people who know what they're doing. read more

This place took ages to open, so once it finally did we were anxious to try it. But it really, really needs work. Mostly, the *staff* needs work. First, the positives: the interior is quite nice, and the patio is absolutely lovely. But that's the extent of the positives ... - The staff are not trained well. Our server was pleasant, but hung about far too long going on about what he thinks is good off the menu (when really all we wanted were a few drinks and some nachos to share.) He went from being too clingy when we first got there to being hard to find when we wanted the bill. - When we stood by the door paying the bill (because the signal was not strong on their terminal, we couldn't pay at our table), the hostess greeted us again, as if we had just arrived and wanted a table. Seriously? You don't remember us from a mere hour ago in this not-busy restaurant?! So odd. Heard our sever quietly tell her, "no no; they're LEAVING." This is what I mean about the staff: well meaning but clearly so green and not properly trained. - It wasn't busy when we were there, and you can tell that it's the type of place where they'll fall apart once a few tables are filled. Seriously: the staff needs work. - Beer selection is all boring macro stuff. Need to get some decent craft beer offerings. - Menu is limited and a tad pricey for pub fare. - We ordered nachos: they were piled super high (note: nice to see corn and black beans on them!), but once all the unbroken tortilla chips off the top were gone - the ones with toppings on them - we saw what made the pile so high: a load of plain, broken and crumbled tortilla chip bits underneath it all. COME ON. - Finally: the cushioned bench seating is *so low* -- you sit on them and just SINK. If this is what it's like brand new, I can't imagine how it'll be after a few months. You'll sit down and essentially be on the damn floor. I *truly* hope management reads this (and the Google reviews that say similar things) and fix what needs fixing.
