We came to the pub to celebrate my birthday. It was pretty busy but we didn't have to wait to be seated. I had the fried shrimp sandwich (on a separate menu) and my partner had the fish and chips. The food was definitely pub food. I enjoyed my sandwich a lot but it was massive. I had to take the shrimp out of the bread. The fish and chips was reportedly also good. I was having a few beers, I had 2 pints in two hours .... and wanted a third ..... Nicky suggested I have a soda water and wait a bit .... I definitely said ok ..... when Marissa arrived she's going to cut me off permalitly , and never return... this was totally uncalled for .... nik... was a great suggestion... and I followed it . how ever Marissa was bery acressive because she thinks ... she's the boss , I haven't drank for over a year ...... she wasn't as that way at all . Went here on a Thursday night. The special was pint and 1 lb wings for $16. Good value. Wings were bigger than usual and was a good size to eat. Had the five alarm sauce, which was pretty hot, but had great flavour to it. Service was good and quick. Waitress was checking in on us regularly. Environment was good. Lot of TV's around so its good to come here if a sports game is on too. Definitely would come back again. read more

First time in Ajax, but Magwyer is a gem. Food is made from scratch and service and attention is great. Known for their wings, you can't overlook their soup and pie dishes. I had the chicken pot pie and it wasn't over salted like many places and you could taste a hint of the white wine reduction. I had the dry rub wings, but I hear getting the wings sauced and grilled to carmelize the sugars is the way to go. Good variety of beers on tap. If you're lucky, they'll have the Pint and Pound special for beer and wings. Wish I was staying longer on business to try more of the food. I'm recommending the Magwyer to my Sales Manager who comes by every few months. read more

We go to magwyers every Monday after hockey for wings. The wings are great with lots of great flavours prices are great and service is always good. So, my man and his friends have been going to this little place for awhile now. All I've heard is good things about the food, service and atmosphere. They would all go every Thursday for their Pint and a Pound Special for around $10. After hearing about how awesome this place is, I thought it was my turn to crash the boys' party and see what this place is all about. It's in the middle of a plaza. I didn't really notice it until I got out of the car. It's got your typical sports pub décor, a few TVs and wooden everything. It's a small place and it gets PACKED. I've been there twice now, one late night for Pint and a Pound Thursdays and one dinner for 59 cent Wings Tuesday. These specials are not on their website, so if the price/day is wrong, please let me know! The wings are freakin huge and meaty. They have a good variety of sauces and seasonings that aim to please. The staff is small, but efficient. The service is great; friendly and laid back. Most importantly, the wings are ALWAYS good. I've never had anything else on the menu. Food isn't too bad. Wing deals are what we come here for. But the service - on many occasions - is abysmal. They need to hire more friendly and sympathetic staff. - Me and my husband came in to eat, and were seated down at the table for 20 mins before being approached. The waitress "Jessie" finally came over and I let her know that we have been sitting here for over twenty mins without service - no water or anything. She retorted with a sarcastic attitude with me and went on from there. We ordered some drinks and were asked for ID. I'm from the United States, so she asked to see more than just my drivers license. I got my passport from the car and she checked it over. We ordered our food. It was a pint and pound special today as well as an oyster special. We figured out our order, trying to find the best "deal" combination, got our food and ate. Our bill arrived and there was some confusion with charges and orders as we thought our waitress would try and accommodate us with the best deal. After inquiring about the charges, Jessie rudely commented stating "well are you ever going to be back anyways?" I was stunned. That statement implied that because I lived far away, I should just deal with it and pay the bill as she assumed I'll never be back. This shows I was not a valued customer at all. My husband lives 5 minutes away and we visit this place all the time. I am giving 5 stars for their wings and service. I finally made it out for their Tuesday wing night and enjoyed two flavours of delicous wings! It was really busy and I can see why. We were a group of 6 and had to wait for a bit for a table. Service was great even though it was busy. Lots of flavours to choose from, I went with creamy sriracha and honey chipotle bbq. That was a miserable experience. They chose to prioritize orders coming to them via Skip The Dishes instead of the customers who came into the pub. Our own server told us that*as the excuse why we had been waiting long enough for my friend to get through 2 pints of Guinness. THAT was after I had to go to where she was and wait over her shoulder to even get her attention. We wound up getting our meals to go. I had the chicken parm and it was pretty much flavour-less. We were looking for a place to grab lunch. We read the reviews and decided to try it. It comes as advertised and reviewed. Food was awesome both in taste and value. The stuffed Yorkie was massive and could not be finished. The pot pie was delicious with large pieces of chicken not the small cubes usually found at most pubs. We would highly recommend this pub. I wish I had taken pictures of all our meals but we were too hungry to do that, and the food was so damn tasty! We've been coming here for many years but recently have made quite a few trips! Let's start by saying it has a great ambiance with a Irish pub feel. It's not crazy noisy and the TVs aren't blaring. You still get to take in a great baseball game or hockey game or even basketball game. The servers are all fantastic! They remember us every time we come. In particular, Hannah who served us tonight, took the time to let us know that she remembered us and even remembered specific things we had shared with her. Everyone is so friendly here. They have oyster nights every second Thursday of the month. Tonight being Wednesday, I had the poutine special. I chose the crack poutine which had sirloin steak, asiago cheese and the best homemade gravy anywhere in Durham! On the topic of homemade is their French onion soup. They make their own broth and they take their time doing it. Again, best French onion soup I've ever had. The rib and wing combos use side ribs which are to die for! Falling off the bone tender as they say. Their wing flavours and the size of their wings can't be beat! Wonderful salads with crisp fresh lettuce. I enjoy the fact that on some Friday nights they have live music! It's a local pub that I love to come back to time and time again. Great place to hang out with friends, or enjoy a family meal. Neighborhood pub by definition. Super casual atmosphere and the staff are generally pleasant and offer good service. I have tried lots of menu items and the only thing I am disappointed with in the regular are the desserts. Also, I personally find the soups too salty but that might be a personal preference. I've been to Magwyers Pub a few times now. I've only gone on Tuesdays for their 59 cent wings night. To get the 59 cent wings deal, you have to order a drink and it's a minimum of 6 wings per flavour. The only downside to this awesome deal is that you can't take home your leftover wings. The atmosphere is your typical pub style. Good service with friendly waitresses. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth trying! From their wings flavours, I've tried honey garlic, zesty orange and lemon pepper. My favourite from the three is definitely honey garlic. The wings are huge, not like other wing places that I've been to. I've also tried their fries, onion rings and sweet potato fries. There's nothing outstanding about them but nice to have on the side of your wings. read more

When we arrived it took them 15 minutes to notice we were there, the waitress kept having a negative tone "-menu is a novel. -you will have a hard time deciding -most people don't like that" Not very good at selling the location I ordered the French onion soup and it tasted like someone dumped a container of rosemary in it, my husband had a turkey sandwich and said it was delicious. I'm going to keep this simple and to the point. In the last 10 years I have been to McGwyers a dozen times. I'm an out of towner and I go there to join my brother in a friendly cheers-like environment. The first time I went he said that I really had to try the chicken wings, and he was absolutely right. As far as wings go they are absolutely fantastic. A decade ago if you asked me if I'd be writing a review on chicken wings I would have asked you to give your head a shake. Honestly, these are consistently the best wings ever. Here's the trick, whatever flavour you order make sure they "grill" them after they cook them. Do yourself a favour and take the mystery out of ordering. Just ask for "hot grilled" wings when you place your order (not too hot, but lots of flavour). I have brought a couple of friends with me over the years and we all agree that if you're looking for the best wings ever and a cold pint, this is the place hands down. McGwyers has officially instilled a lifelong love of Ceasar's for me - the adult beverage, not the salad in case you are wondering! Make sure to ask for their wing menu. I tried the honey garlic (nice and saucy) and the lemon pepper - I really a enjoy a flavourful dry rub wing. Only criticism here, where was the obligatory carrot and celery? And no blue cheese dip? No cool. Since it was my first dinner of the day, I opted to have a Greek salad. Their home-made feta was quite sensational; the issue however was the sauce. I attended the bar for soda water from Merissa and had no words during our interaction. I conversed new customers and about attending a new establishment THE EDGE. While the male left he was advised by Merissa THE MANAGER to be careful about my demeanour as I'm trouble at a music band premise to meet people I haven't been at Magwyers in a year. Why Merissa needs to behind customers back tell her reputation or fairy tale of no business to be concerned of of other. Why to get into business it's not her business to shoot her mouth. The male told what had happened at the Edge and I was upset why Merissa would love her own attention for others and find out why? She was rude and do to being confronted to being wrong about talking about other customers in her job. Merissa then made a big ordeal to the owner to have never come back to Magwers again. She was embarrassed for shooting her mouth and and had a pack of puppies to talk to me about video which didn't scare my demeanour dealing with her talking about customers to increase her attention. When trying a new restaurant, I usually try it twice. Everyone can have a bad night, so I don't judge my experience from one visit, (unless it's truly awful). My first visit was with my Wife, she had a chicken wrap, and I had a burger, standard fare. Neither meal was outstanding, however, nor were they awful. The fries left a little to be desired, but not bad. Atmosphere was good, a typical sports bar, but on this visit, the service was not up to par. The only waitress in the establishment was preoccupied with some regulars at another table, and needed to flagged down to come back to our table twice (first to refill our drinks, and the second time to get our bill 15 minutes after we had finished our meal). Second visit was solo, for Sunday brunch, again, breakfast was decent, but not outstanding, and the service was similarly sluggish and un-attentive. I haven't been back. read more

Had Smithwicks on tap. The beer was just a little off somehow...not quite sure what it was, but tasted a little sour and just a bit flat. I suspect they haven't been cleaning their draft lines as often as they should. A well-run pub (and this one claims to be a best of British style pub) should make very sure they clean the lines regularly. Disappointing! The burger was good, the fries that came with it were very good! Delicious. The wings were also good, but we were disappointed in the portion size. A 2lbs order of wings turned out to be only 13 wings. They were fairly big, but somehow I suspect we didn't really get a full 2lb. A bit stingy on the dipping sauce too. Also, many other places will either include fries with their wings, or at least offer fries with them for just a dollar more. Here, you have to pay $5 for an order of fries if you want them along with your wings. The waitress was OK. Nothing special, not particularly attentive or friendly, but fine enough. The washrooms were very clean. So, overall we were happy enough with the taste of the food, but not very happy with their portions or pricing. Not at all happy with their draft beer. read more

Magweyers is a decent place to go for a few pints or dinner. They have a Tuesday wing deal that is quite popular. I used to book a reservation for 7:30 on wing night but sometimes would have to wait for my table for like 10 minutes. Also one time I tried to order a "jager bomb" but they don't serve them because, according to the bartender "it gets people rowdy". Which I guess is understandable- they don't have to serve anything they don't want to. It usually is an older crowd, and it is a smaller pub, but it's still not a bad place to go- everybody is pretty chill and it doesn't get too loud. This pub has been around for many years. The very first time I walked in the door, it felt as if I walked into a European pub. Small and quaint. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. They renovated in the last year adding the business that was beside them, into a lovely dining area. Everything Magwyers always had still has, plus some more room. I have tried many dishes but have to say that I think their wings are the best in town. Over time, they have changed their menu and have improved on it each time. The staff doesn't change all that often. That tells me that they are happy working there. You are usually greeted as soon as you walk through the door. The staff strives to make your stay good experience. You can bet that if you have been once you will want to come again and again. A great place to bring the family and friends. The worst service I have ever received here and will never be coming back. Family used to always always come here for the last 15 years but we won't be back anytime soon unfortunately.. has always been great with any of the owners around but unfortunately they can't seem to make things work without them there. Sat down at 6:45 on a Wednesday and the restaurant had almost 50% of the tables empty, and our first appetizer didn't get to our table until 7:50, didn't get our mains served until 830, just wasn't acceptable for a quite Wednesday night.
