Tavern

Always great food and good service. Love the shallot butter grilled cheese and husband always gets the Tavern breakfast. It's an institution and a must try jn Summerhill for brunch.

Mac and cheese

This is one of my favourite places for a brunch on Sunday! The atmosphere of the place is so cozy and warm during the winter. I heard they have a nice patio during the summer, so I can't wait to check it out. I usually order the Mac and cheese, which is AH-MAZING!!! What I like about this place so they'll let you get half fries and half salad. This way you don't feel too guilty about eating their delicious fries. OH and not to forget about the delicious cornbread they have, it was really upsetting that they ran out of it when I visited last :( The server is pretty fast and their servers are friendly. Highly recommend this place as it is not too pricey too!!

Roasted pepper hummus. Pita bread was too oily, but hummus was tasty. $7.99

The food is tasty, but the service is THE slowest I've experienced in a while. A table of about 10 of us came here for lunch on a Friday; we were the only ones sitting upstairs, and it took 45 minutes after ordering for our food to come. I can't imagine how long the wait would've been if it was a full house.. I ordered the roasted pepper hummus and it was very flavourful. However, the so-called 'pita' bread (which resembled closer to bread sticks) was SO oily! They definitely painted a layer of oil on top to make it glisten and look all pretty.. but it was just too much. I had to major oil pat the bread which didn't make the meal as enjoyable as it could've been. But hey, I gotta take care of my arteries! Anyway, it was a good portion for one to have as a small meal or two to share as a snack, it was 7.99 before tip and tax; pretty standard pricing for downtown pub food. I snagged a few of the kettle chips from my friend's side order, and they were pretty dang delicious. I definitely recommend getting a side of the chips while you're here! I should add that this place isn't all too vegan friendly. The only vegan options really are the hummus and one of their salads. Keep that in mind :)

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. Bring cash though, unless you're looking to make some big orders, because credit card is a minimum fifty-dollar spend.

This was first on our list, located in the Scotiabank Tower on Adelaide. We got a nice corner table, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, not too loud but not library-like either. The music, mostly UK fare like their cuisine, played an acceptable volume that my friends and I didn't have to raise our voices. We were seated very promptly, and our server took care to attend to my friend's allergy. She even asked to change my friend's cutlery when another server brought the wrong salad. My appetizer was a hot-smoked salmon pâté, which was ok by itself, but eaten with the pickles gave it that taste I wouldn't forget. I chose for my main the Petit Roast Dinner; the cut was excellent, full of flavour and juicy to boot. The gravy for said cut just brought the roast to another level. The sides were delicious as well, especially the crispiness of the potatoes. A clean plate was the end result! Finally to finish the meal, I chose the chocolate banoffee cheesecake - I never pass on any cheesecake when it's offered. And it didn't disappoint! The banana brûlée was an interesting touch, while having toffee sauce drizzled on the cheesecake was a first (and not definitely last) for me! All in all, it was a nice introduction to The Rabbit Hole, and I can't wait to go down there again!
