Friendly bartender and welcoming. Solo and groups are welcome here but only downside is the washroom isn't well maintained. It would be great if it could be cleaned more often during busy hours. Ordered their Yard poutine and a pint of Beau's Lug Tread. Always pleasant when I see one of my favourite beers on tap! The fries are triple cooked which made them extra crispy, perfect to pair with cheese curds and gravy. Overall, if in the area it's a great spot to grab a couple of drinks and food as well. I hadn't been here in years. I used to come here for pre-drinks with a bunch of friends before going to The Guvernment. It was always a great meetup spot with lots of room, good service and flowing drinks. My friend and I recently came here after going to the Van Gogh exhibit. We sat on the patio and ordered our of our favourite things...nachos! We ordered the regular nachos with chili. We wanted no jalapenos and asked if we could get a bit of shredded lettuce. The waitress said it was no problem and that she'd just make the swap since they were both vegetables. We absolutely devoured them. They were super cheesy and layered PERFECTLY. The waitress told us that they do one layer and put them in the oven, and then do a second layer. That's professional nacho layering right there. Our waitress was funny, friendly and attentive. I was happy with their Covid precautions. Tables inside and out were spaced appropriately. Staff were wearing masks, and ensuring that people did not come in without one. They have big coloured arrows on the floor and signs, pointing to where the bathrooms are, and staff are quick to ensure you are following the arrows and going the right way instead of wandering. read more

My rating is 3.5 stars. My friends and I had spent roughly three hours at the Toronto Christmas Market on Saturday. Although we had been snacking on various yummy items, we wanted to grab some lunch. Our wait time at one restaurant was 1.5 to 2 hours. We decided to ditch that option. Instead, we left the market and headed over to the Esplanade to find a place to eat. I drove us over there and parked in the parking lot for Novotel Hotel. Old Spaghetti Factory or Scotland Yard. Which one to choose? Considering that we wanted some smaller, we went with Scotland Yard. We walked in and a woman said that we could sit anywhere. It was difficult to hear her, as there was a huge section of football (soccer) fans watching a live game between Tottenham Hotspur and Southhampton. None of us were truly interested in watching the game with extremely diehard fans. We found a booth somewhat away from them and sat down. We got menus and looked at them. We ordered a ton of appetizers and small items: - Coney Island dogs (three of them, but I got mini hot dog sliders instead) - Poutine (three) - small - Calamari - Sweet potato fries - Perrier with lime - Blue moon - Heineken We didn't realize that the sizes were generous. We couldn't finish the calamari and sweet potato fries, so we got those boxed up. I had originally ordered the Coney Island dogs, which comes with beef chili on top. Instead, my order was messed up and I got the mini hot dog sliders. It's a good thing that I love hot dogs. I didn't insist on getting a new batch. The mini hot dog sliders have coleslaw and Carolina barbeque sauce. It's a mess eating them, but they were delicious. The bun was soft. The coleslaw had decent slivers of dill pickle, which gave it lots of flavour and crunch. The barbeque sauce was not overpowering. The hot dogs were yummy. I then ate my small poutine. It was also yummy. It had cheese curds. The gravy was flavourful. I liked the fries. I ate it all, which is saying something when I tend to shy away from fries. One of my friends felt the same way as I did about the poutine. The other didn't think it was great. She admitted that she has high poutine standards. We nodded in agreement. I only had a handful of sweet potato fries. They were yummy. They weren't greasy. They were perfect. If my mom were there, she would have inhaled them. I also gave the calamari a try. It was tasty. The downside was this thick dip that came with the calamari. I dipped one of them in and half the batter stayed in the dip. I had to fish (squid?) the batter out of the dip with my knife and smear the dip onto the calamari bite. The dip was more like a cream cheese spread. It was good, but it was not what all of us had expected. The other downside was my wanting a Diet Coke or Pepsi. Our server advised that the CO2 machine was dead. I had just had a cider and didn't want anything alcoholic. As far as fizzy drinks went, I had the option of either tonic or Perrier. I asked for the latter with lime wedges. The lime was a bit dry. I squeezed as much of the juice as I could from them. I was content with my beverage under the circumstances, but really wanted a fountain pop beverage. The washrooms are shared by both the Old Spaghetti Factory and Scotland Yard. It's an interesting setup. I actually wandered over to the other restaurant to check it out after years of being away from it. The washrooms were clean and there were at least five stalls in the women's washroom. There was also a football schedule posted on the wall as you dried your hands. I was a bit confused about the French posters on the wall in a place called Scotland Yard. I don't get it! I'd come back again for the mini hot dog sliders and poutine. I should go for more British fare, like bangers and mash, the next time I'm here. The funny part was that my friend got a text saying that our table was ready back at the Christmas market by the time that we were done eating. I came in for drinks with friends on the patio during the warmer spring days. We waited 10 minutes outside (on a Saturday afternoon) before we got seated. We didn't order much, just drinks and nachos, and enjoyed the Toronto patio. The nachos were delicious! Crispy and hot and topped with all sorts of toppings. Our server was kind enough to get extra dip (sour cream and salsa) without us having to ask for it! She was also very attentive and was sure to keep our drinks topped off, which made for a lovely (& very boozey) afternoon in the city. Just a few minutes walk from the King Street station and in close proximity to Kensington Market lies a stretch on The Esplanade boasting of some really good eating/drinking options. Honestly, the name Scotland Yard made me chuckle. But we were lucky to get a table on a busy Saturday evening with almost no waiting(around 9:00pm) The place has got a decent decor, a couple of projectors to show games or what not. I think the best part of the pub is its offerings of the game of darts. One doesn't have to look too far to figure out the pub's allegiance to Tottenham Hotspurs. One note of caution for fellow patrons. The pub shares its restroom with its neighbour. Blame it on my poor sense of directions or the lack of signage to guide patrons to their respective destinations from the restrooms, I was lost for about 5 mins when I entered the neighboring restaurant until I gave up and asked one of the servers to help me get back to the Yard, as it's also popularly called. When it comes to food, they have quite a few things to offer, but we stuck to the shareables and drinks. We enjoyed a good serving of the Yard Nachos and the Sweet potato fries both of which we relished. I guess our server was a fan of the Sweet potato fries as well coz he just took the plate of fries without asking us if we were done with it. Lol However, that same server, when requested to click our pictures was kind enough to clear the table and it more presentable before capturing that perfect Kodak moment. All of their staff have always been great and I have been here a few times because I have friends that live nearby. They have lots of seating and TVs for game days. The waitress was prompt with swapping out empty glasses with full ones and checking in every so often. The three of us shared the calamari nachos, which was nachos with a portion of calamari dumped on top. Nothing too amazing, but it was a great sharing platter to pull at throughout the night. I ordered Fish 'n Chips. I substituted mashed potatoes for French fries (I wasn't in the mood for them). The potatoes were good. The fish was just so-so and could have been hotter (it was just warm). I thought it was a bit pricy for a couple small pieces of fish. I wouldn't order it again. Gord ordered Chicken Schnitzel. He wasn't crazy about it and said it tasted sweet (maybe the browned butter?) He wouldn't get it again. We were in the mood for the old-school offerings at the Old Spaghetti Factory, but the place was astonishingly full, so we wound up at the Scotland Yard next door instead. I'm so glad we did. The ambiance here is low-key and friendly, and, more importantly, we were able to secure an always-appreciated booth. The menu is full of pub classics, but I was feeling a burger, so I decided to go with the Spicy Burger ("8oz All Beef Burger, Bacon, Provolone Cheese, Sauteed Onions, Banana Peppers, Jalapenos, Spicy Ranch Sauce"). It arrived a short time later and it's surprisingly good. The meat isn't anything to write home about (i.e. it was pretty dry), but the various toppings definitely compensate well and all work perfectly together. Every mouthful contained a multitude of flavors and I certainly enjoyed the heck out of each bite I took. (I want to also point out that the burger arrived to the table piping hot, which seems like it should be a no-brainer but is all-too-sadly a rare occurrence.) Especially the fact that they refused to serve any more alcohol when they knew customers were too drunk. The serviceman in the front also checked to make sure how people were getting home without driving. I saw an instance where a drunk girl was being hit on by random dudes and invited to sit at their table. The waitresses knew something was up and warned the guys and the girl, since it seemed like she was going to get drunk raped or something. Turning down business for the good of the customer while knowing they will make less money is why this place has great integrity and why I gave a high tip. Also, my drunk colleagues offered to buy the waitress a drink but she professionally and politely declined since she had a job to do. I got a cozy feeling when I came here. Almost like when you go to your Grandma's house and you see a lot of paintings and fixtures from the past. It's quite a big place with lots of seating on the esplanades. I really enjoyed the Coney island hot dogs they had on their late night menu. Mini hot dogs with chilli and cheese on top of a dinner roll. It was tasty and fun at the same time. Their wings are smaller in size so you do get quite a lot . I liked the lemon dry pepper wings. However I got the Suicide and Honey hoping to get a little spicy after taste. I think this is another place that downplays what a suicide wing should taste like as the spice level was low.
