This was a cool spot, good vibes and their Caesar was ok. Just was a quick stop to grab a drink.

Very cool pub with authentic old world charm. The menu is what to be expected from the pub - burghers, fries, chicken wings, fish and chips and other items. Very good choice of drinks. Service is courteous. Not very expensive, definitely worth investigating.

We ordered wings and poutine to share, and the poutine was fantastic! The wings were good as well, but did not stand out. The layout of the restaurant is odd, and we were in this secluded corner which made it hard to flag down our server when we were ready to pay. Quite a small menu, but gets you fed relatively fast if you have somewhere to be after.

On our bar hopping night, we decided to go to Scotland Yard. really like the ambiance and decoration, even their name is so cool. They have the yummiest and most fully loaded nachos. Had great and tasty cocktails. highly recommended place. Great service and friendly staff

Dinner here was wonderful! We sat outside, our server was phenomenal, and the food was delicious! I ordered the Hot N Honey Chicken sandwich. The sauce on the chicken was amazing!! I love a good sweet- heat combo, and it was good! I was so excited to eat that I forgot to snap a picture of my meal!! The fries that come with it had good seasoning, I didn't need ketchup to make them any better. Our server was kind and attentive, I didn't catch his name, but he wears fun socks and gives great recommendations. I had an amber ale with my dinner - I don't recall it's actual name - based on his recommendation, it was very good and just what I was hoping for. I would definitely eat here again!

My rating is 3.5 stars. My friends and I had spent roughly three hours at the Toronto Christmas Market on Saturday. Although we had been snacking on various yummy items, we wanted to grab some lunch. Our wait time at one restaurant was 1.5 to 2 hours. We decided to ditch that option. Instead, we left the market and headed over to the Esplanade to find a place to eat. I drove us over there and parked in the parking lot for Novotel Hotel. Old Spaghetti Factory or Scotland Yard. Which one to choose? Considering that we wanted some smaller, we went with Scotland Yard. We walked in and a woman said that we could sit anywhere. It was difficult to hear her, as there was a huge section of football (soccer) fans watching a live game between Tottenham Hotspur and Southhampton. None of us were truly interested in watching the game with extremely diehard fans. We found a booth somewhat away from them and sat down. We got menus and looked at them. We ordered a ton of appetizers and small items: - Coney Island dogs (three of them, but I got mini hot dog sliders instead) - Poutine (three) - small - Calamari - Sweet potato fries - Perrier with lime - Blue moon - Heineken We didn't realize that the sizes were generous. We couldn't finish the calamari and sweet potato fries, so we got those boxed up. I had originally ordered the Coney Island dogs, which comes with beef chili on top. Instead, my order was messed up and I got the mini hot dog sliders. It's a good thing that I love hot dogs. I didn't insist on getting a new batch. The mini hot dog sliders have coleslaw and Carolina barbeque sauce. It's a mess eating them, but they were delicious. The bun was soft. The coleslaw had decent slivers of dill pickle, which gave it lots of flavour and crunch. The barbeque sauce was not overpowering. The hot dogs were yummy. I then ate my small poutine. It was also yummy. It had cheese curds. The gravy was flavourful. I liked the fries. I ate it all, which is saying something when I tend to shy away from fries. One of my friends felt the same way as I did about the poutine. The other didn't think it was great. She admitted that she has high poutine standards. We nodded in agreement. I only had a handful of sweet potato fries. They were yummy. They weren't greasy. They were perfect. If my mom were there, she would have inhaled them. I also gave the calamari a try. It was tasty. The downside was this thick dip that came with the calamari. I dipped one of them in and half the batter stayed in the dip. I had to fish (squid?) the batter out of the dip with my knife and smear the dip onto the calamari bite. The dip was more like a cream cheese spread. It was good, but it was not what all of us had expected. The other downside was my wanting a Diet Coke or Pepsi. Our server advised that the CO2 machine was dead. I had just had a cider and didn't want anything alcoholic. As far as fizzy drinks went, I had the option of either tonic or Perrier. I asked for the latter with lime wedges. The lime was a bit dry. I squeezed as much of the juice as I could from them. I was content with my beverage under the circumstances, but really wanted a fountain pop beverage. The washrooms are shared by both the Old Spaghetti Factory and Scotland Yard. It's an interesting setup. I actually wandered over to the other restaurant to check it out after years of being away from it. The washrooms were clean and there were at least five stalls in the women's washroom. There was also a football schedule posted on the wall as you dried your hands. I was a bit confused about the French posters on the wall in a place called Scotland Yard. I don't get it! I'd come back again for the mini hot dog sliders and poutine. I should go for more British fare, like bangers and mash, the next time I'm here. The funny part was that my friend got a text saying that our table was ready back at the Christmas market by the time that we were done eating. We did the right thing by stopping over here to have a decent lunch and have a fun time catching up. (426)

Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. I mistakenly came upon Town Crier Pub due to some marketing miscommunication on my part. I saw a lovely lunch special sidewalk sign and thought it was for them, but it was actually for the restaurant next door! However, I was already committed, and I always loved pubbing. Opened in early 2011, it was named after the historical role of town criers who served as the primary news source in medieval times. With the general theme of Belgian and German styles, its owners believed that European beers and news were linked. Would I be crying in my beer at this pub for entering the incorrect eatery in this town!? PURCHASE(S) Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold Lager Beer 5.5% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.50CAD): Golden amber color, aromatic malty aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=Oks3ELRLtUfkwpMwMfZ7YQ Town Crier Burger + Add Cheese ($17.00CAD + $2.00CAD): A simple burger made with prime rib beef patty, lettuce, pickle, red onion, and tomato on a lightly-grilled bun with an added slice of cheddar cheese, it was a sizable burger and did the job, but there wasn't anything special about it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=XV6Yy6lwP5yngWkIFicroA [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 3.5 of 5.0 STARS] Substitute Onion Rings ($3.00CAD): A good side portion with many rings of generally uniform size, these were hot, lightly golden browned, semi-crunchy, and had a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) pulled out at times. Although they were somewhat oily, they were good, and didn't come with any dipping sauce. Innis & Gunn Mangoes On The Run Fruited IPA Beer 5.0% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.00CAD): Dark strawberry color, fruity mango tropical aroma, low body, fruity hoppy mango sweet flavor, smooth finish, and slight bitter fruity mango tropical aftertaste. This was my favorite of the two for obvious reasons! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=_MZhEukjAcdC0Qfo4P2Kaw SERVICE I was happily greeted by a young host outside on the sidewalk who then directed me to a nice outdoor patio table perfect for people watching and the weather. He handed me a massive menu, supplied a glass of water, and soon enough I placed my order. My beers arrived quickly while the food took about ten minutes. He checked in often while we chatted throughout the time. It was a cool hang out for lunch - danke! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there were spots along the main drag of John St. and all surrounding streets, some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A cozy snug layout throughout, inside had a loungey warm feeling with a focal bar with a few stools https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=LZIKI_6GFVgLIPXXkbrICA and many closed-in tables; whereas, the outside patio was less formal but equally compact. Inside was very ornate of Belgian and German styles, while outside was casual and simple. Minimal natural lighting entered inside through the few windows and door opening and of course plenty outside while dim electric ceiling and table lights filled in both areas. There were no TVs nor any background music because chatter was everywhere. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=bYpvTBTNnDqaLvrEqNtYtA ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Town Crier Pub had me laughing, talking, and people watching for a relaxing afternoon and would gladly return. The number of beers available both on tap and in bottles was insane and I loved it! The food menu was expansive. The food was fine but nothing special, and the prices were relatively comparable. But, it was the service and staff that literally reeled me in for a good time. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00CAD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... This was first on our list, located in the Scotiabank Tower on Adelaide. We got a nice corner table, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, not too loud but not library-like either. The music, mostly UK fare like their cuisine, played an acceptable volume that my friends and I didn't have to raise our voices. We were seated very promptly, and our server took care to attend to my friend's allergy. She even asked to change my friend's cutlery when another server brought the wrong salad. My appetizer was a hot-smoked salmon pâté, which was ok by itself, but eaten with the pickles gave it that taste I wouldn't forget. I chose for my main the Petit Roast Dinner; the cut was excellent, full of flavour and juicy to boot. The gravy for said cut just brought the roast to another level. The sides were delicious as well, especially the crispiness of the potatoes. A clean plate was the end result! Finally to finish the meal, I chose the chocolate banoffee cheesecake - I never pass on any cheesecake when it's offered. And it didn't disappoint! The banana brûlée was an interesting touch, while having toffee sauce drizzled on the cheesecake was a first (and not definitely last) for me! All in all, it was a nice introduction to The Rabbit Hole, and I can't wait to go down there again!
