Mediocre service and bad food on a busy Tuesday before a Jays game. Sat on the patio before going to a Jays game and it was pretty busy. It looked like only one waitress took care of the patio and it wasn't enough. While she was friendly and doing the best she could, it was obvious that she felt overwhelmed. Service was slow and the waitress always made us feel rushed when ordering or asking for anything. I got fish and chips, which were half bad. The fries were fantastic with a little salt. The fish was horrible. The fish itself was overdone and dry while the batter was somehow underdone and soggy. The portion of the fish wasn't great but I didn't finish it because it was that bad. Also, soft drink refills aren't free. Paying over $5 for two glasses of pop is appalling. If they had free refills like every other restaurant ever, I would bump them up to two stars. While I had a great time because of the good atmosphere and time out with friends, I won't be coming back. Pretty disappointing overall. read more

Came here tonight with some acquaintances for drinks. For a Wednesday night, it was quite crowded. Mind you, it's also the 29th of December ... maybe people have time off? There were enough seats available... if you're in a group of 5+, there are a few tables that can accommodate you. The selection of alcoholic beverages is a plenty. I would love to check out their food next time! After waiting 5 minutes at a host stand and no service next door, rerouted to here for lunch, ordered a pitcher of sangria (at the recommendation of our server, Sidney) and the veggie burger with fries. I usually don't expect much when it comes to fries at restaurants but these fries actually slapped. The burger was good too, just didn't have the level of spice I was expecting. Overall would recommend this place. The music was great, the food was great and the service was fantastic - would go back just based off of Sidneys charming service. read more

3-stars, by no means denoting a negative review of this place, just that I didn't find anything to stand out either. Food was pretty good by pub standards. Nachos came out with a good amount of cheese and weren't overcooked/dry. Wings looked decent though I didn't personally try them. And the fries are on point. So they seem to nail the pub food; just don't try to get any of the more gourmet stuff. Other than that, nothing seems to be particularly noteworthy. The service was fine - no complaints. Food is hit and miss. I had a very nice steak pie, but my wife's fish was dry and not pleasant at all. There is a decent selection of draught beers, which make this not a bad place to stop by for a pint and bite to eat. However, I find it very dark and dingy inside. I was here last week for an Oscar party that my friend hosts each year. This year was the first time at this place. Located on the Esplanade and next door to the Old Spaghetti Factory, there is ample parking at the Green P just up the street. Walking in it's pretty big - there is a section for playing darts, the bar area and then the dining area. It has a typical pub like feeling - dark wood tables, crappy chairs...you certainly won't find Norm sitting here! Service was ok, if not a bit slow - there only seemed to be 2 servers for the dining area and considering it was a pretty full section for a Sunday night I think there should have been more. They have several tv screens and they had a big screen up so people could watch the Oscars. They even had a special Oscar menu (so clearly this was planned, so then service should have been planned to handle the additional people on Sunday as well). I just chose the Revenant Poutine which basically was poutine...in a bread bowl. Not having seen the movie not sure how this ties into it...but I can take a guess..lol. It was $9. The poutine was fine - the typical poutine...the bread was ok...if not a little tough. Not particularly impressed. My friend had the burger and fries and really enjoyed it - she said it was nice and juicy. When we decided we wanted to get our bill...well that endeavor took about 20 minutes to flag our server down to get it. We were trying to be proactive to get the bill before the Oscars ended and a flood of people wanted to pay. Kinda didn't work that way. But in fairness all the servers seemed really friendly and provided suggestions on the menu when we asked. If I worked in the area I might go after work to grab a bite with friends and chill but I don't think I would make any special trips down here for this place. read more

Shortly after noon today my Mom and I had lunch at the venue; this was my 3rd visit and the 1st time I've been there in several years although I live close by. Scotland Yard is located in an old building and for that reason it has a passageway to The Spaghetti Factory next door. The décor is very pub-like, there are very big screens abundant throughout and darts to play as well. It was barren inside so we were seated very quickly and had prompt service. I had planned to order a brunch selection but my Mom saw hot dog sliders w/coleslaw, etc. on the menu so the 2 of us ended up sharing 6 sliders but each of us could only eat 2 of them as it was lunch time so we had leftovers. The brunch selection I was going to have was 3 eggs w/bacon or sausage, toast and home fries which would have been a good deal for $12 when compared to the prices for the same or a very similar dish at other nearby pubs and restaurants. Their beer selection is fairly decent. It's a nice convenient place to go with a larger group of people; my 1st 2 visits there were with 2 social Groups and we were accommodated quite nicely as both groups were fairly large. read more

Great little Irish place over by the saint Lawrence market. First off they have all your staple local beers along with some irish obvious ones of course! Good stuff as usual! The food was very good! The Shepards pie was tasty as can be! Whipped potatoes, savory gravy and beer as well as your staple peas and carrots! Very well done irish dish! As for desert, the peanut butter and jam soliders where deep fried something you'd expect from a summer amusement park! Yum! It tasted like deep fried dough mixed with peanut butter and jelly and a hint of banana. I loved it, it brought back that kid in you feeling! I came here on a Friday night and was acknowledged and seated quickly. My server kept my water glass full as we weren't consuming the reasonably priced beer on this occasion. There is a good amount of tvs to watch the game on. We ordered the fully loaded nachos and pulled pork sandwich with salad. The nachos were fantastic as well as a the sandwich. There was a large portion of salad which you can't always get at a pub. The price was reasonable for downtown Toronto. This is the sort of place you end up for an after work happy hour or a meetup. It's a convenient location and a pretty good spot for that sort of thing. The main draw, aside from the space to have a group, is the happy hour. Toronto isn't big on happy hour deals, so theirs are automatically worth checking out. read more

You will meet the friendliest people here! My wife and I have been to Toronto twice, both times staying at the Novotel on the Esplanade. The first time, in 2015, we were fortunate enough stumble upon Scotland Yard. When work required another trip this year, we stayed at the same hotel, and looked forward to return chips to to the Yard. Many times, memories of a place become sweeter with time, and return visit can be a bit of a letdown. Not here, we enjoyed it even more. Now, we can't comment much on the place as a restaurant, but as a bar, it's just fantastic. Both nights we arrived around 10:00, to just have a beer. Both nights we closed the place down. The bartenders are excellent, and the locals we met were incredibly friendly, even though I was wearing by Bruins hat just before the start of the playoffs. We wound up shooting darts with several groups, and enjoying pub food and pints. The beer selection was quite good, and we enjoyed several local micro-brews, as well as more than my fair share of Molsons. We ate wings and sliders and poutine. Wings were excellent, the sliders were sliders (not much you can do to ruin them, unless you overcook 'em, and they didn't), but the poutine was the star. Huge portion with plenty of gravy and heaps of cheese curds. The gravy had wonderful flavor. Whether you are a local or a visitor, go here, have fun, meet great people. read more

A friend of mine and I went here last night after a long day of traveling. We thought a pub meal would be quick and satisfy us. I would say it was a bit of a tired place. There is an area for darts. My friend ordered a burger and it was dry. She said it was her fault for not saying how she wanted it prepared. The waitress however never asked. She ordered a gin and tonic and the waitress forgot the type of gin and had it made with the wrong kind. I ordered a Black Manhattan and somehow she forgot and I received a Black Russian? With a maraschino cherry? At the end of our meal we had a different waitress who said the original waitress was in training and apologized. My friend and I were surprised she didn't write down what we were ordering if she was new or that perhaps they didn't take my friends drink off the bill. I had the stew and it was good. Went in to Scotland Yard looking for some good pub food after a busy day visiting Toronto. Loved the service and the atmosphere of this place. The beer selection was really good as well. My friend ordered the fish and chips, which he said was great. I however was rather disappointed with my burger. I found it to just be incredibly dry, both the bun and the burger patty. The fries were quite good though. Still giving it four stars because everything else about the place was fantastic. Just don't order a burger here. read more

A single Star - tired beer selection and incredibly average pub food. A good pub needs to be about the beer in my opinion - it's that simple! I honestly think Scotland Yard has one of the poorest beer selection in the city. Many options from Molson / Coor's and Rickard's - zzzzzzzzzzzz........ Never thought I would every ask for a Molson Stock Ale and pay for it. The safest beer bets would be one of the few irish selections. The beer menu included a craft beer category with just two choices - Mill Street Tankhouse Ale & Organic. With so many amazing Ontario craft beers - this is a sad list. Almost insulting. Food was greasy, overcooked and completely uninspired. The pub's decor is a rather dated - I used to visit here 15-20 years ago when I didn't know better. With respect, I must disagree somewhat with my esteemed fellow reviewer Todd V. If you happen to be on the Esplanade, Scotland Yard is the place to go - friendly bouncers, great servers, reasonable drink prices, great chill vibe without the pretentiousness that pervades the strip (I'm looking at you Bier Markt, you jackasses)...it's just a good place to hang out and have a drink with friends. It's an Olde English Pub basically - and unless you're an investment banker or a 905er visiting The Big City for a Big Night Out (read: trolling for drunken sluts), you definitely don't want it to have a makeover since it's fine as it is, has character and doesn't feel metrosexual. Unfussy, solid pub grub rounds out the experience - grab the nachos with guacamole - the guac is a tad expensive as an add-on, but it's freshly made and superb. I give Scotland Yard two thumbs up with an extra middle finger to the Bier Markt just for good measure (check out my Bier Markt review so you know what I'm talking about). read more

I come here because of its location, sandwiched between Bier Markt and The Old Spaghetti Factory. Bier Markt is often times my first choice, then I might decide to have a few beers at Scotland Yard first. Just like other reviewers, this place is a standard pub. Good service from what I remember. And I watched the superbowl here a few years ago when NYG pulled off the upset over NE, and it was good times. Neverly overly crowded. Oh, and one other warning. I went to use the washroom, which is shared with The Old Spaghetti Factory, and it took me 20 minutes to get back to my table as I got lost! I had a few beers in me, and I guess I headed in the wrong direction when I left the washroom. Embarrassing stupid mistake, but can happen to you! You will wonder why they let such small children into a pub until you find out that they share a washroom with the Spaghetti Factory next door. This place feels like its an after work place for regulars that don't necessarily want to go somewhere more "hip" in the espanade/financial district area. Kind of a big pub, it's almost a lot of things. It's: almost cozy almost cool almost fun... But I have a feeling that you go here BECAUSE it's almost a lot of things and you dont' have to pay/wait for it because it just isn't 100% all of those things. Would really have loved to have given this pub more but whenever I have tummy issues the day after eating somewhere I cannot justify it. One thing I don't get is that places like this are trying to pass off British pubs but seriously we don't live in 1960 any more there is no need for old crappy tables and a wooden bar with random stuff on the wall. Saying that I do like the vibe of the place, it is not too sporty and it is not too douche ridden, so you get a mix of people here minus the hipsters because it is the Esplanade and they can not get across the financial district unless there is a full moon or a jobs fair that day. A bonus is the two dart boards as you come in. Makes for interesting boozed up competitions. Being a pretty good darts player this is an easy way for me to win a drink. Okay so down to the menu, on appearance its pretty good and has some of the best food ever, fish & chips, bangers & mash and Sheppard's pie. I tried the bangers & mash and did not bother reading the description below. The sausages - there were only two and they were German bratwurst sausages The mash - was more lumpy than an Ikea pillow and did not have much taste and lacked butter The gravy - not enough of it and was not the best tasting gravy ever My friend had the cheeseburger, she demolished it but I forgot to ask how it was, because I am kind of selfish like that. It did look good though. The drinks selection was pretty good, and the service was probably the good thing here. We did come after work so expect finding a table a toughy. My husband and I ate here before a show at the Sony Centre on Saturday night (Jerry Seinfeld - he's still got it!). Arrived around 630pm and managed to get a booth by the huge screen despite it being quite busy, which was great. Kim Crawford is their house white so I was already a happy camper. We ordered the Boursin Garlic Bread to start and it was absolutely fantastic. I had the fish and chips which were great, my only comment would be that the coleslaw was quite terrible - that may just be my preference, though. My husband had a chicken wrap that he didn't really like. To be fair, he noticed there was Tzatziki sauce on it, which he thought was weird (it seemed out of place on this type of wrap as it wasn't a souvlaki or Greek wrap, it was a spicy chicken wrap or something similar) but he tried it anyway, and didn't like it. So that's on him. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is of a pub, which it clearly is and does well. Lots of TVs which we always appreciate (sports!). Of the eateries and pubs you could go to on the Esplanade, this place is definitely the poorer cousin of the bunch. Scotland Yard has been in its place for ages and truly makes no apologies for it. It is what it is, warts and all. On the inside, everything seems to have been there forever. The furniture. The fixtures. The staff. The clients. Everything about this place screams "local" to the point that you sometimes hate to intrude. It could probably do with a makeover but I'm not sure that would particularly jive with everyone involved. Those who go there seem to like it, and the staff don't seem to want to change it either. It's a drinking hole with a standard menu of pub food. If you're looking for a cold pint and a plate of chicken fingers while watching the hockey game, you could do worse than here. Otherwise, I'd start strolling down the Esplanade. read more

I come here for breakfast with my boyfriend, usually on quiet Sunday mornings. The patio is spacious, the music here is awesome (rarely am I pleased about music at restaurants) and the servers are great; not too fussy and on the ball. The brunch menu doesn't offer too much for herbivores, but if you ask for a tweak (i.e. replace the meat with fruit), they don't give too much trouble; sometimes they won't charge extra, sometimes they do. The thing that seals the deal for me is the Hollandaise! Now, I generally don't lick plates in public, so I might as well bring a spatula the next time I come. The downside: the calories and the fact that it puts me right into a food coma afterward. read more

I have been to Scotland Yard on several occasions, mostly for drinks on the patio. Recently visited this place for food, so I decided to give it a shout out on Yelp. This pub has that distinct 'British Pub' feel to it. It has a very casual, homely feel to the bar. Lots of big screens, pool table and dart boards. Every time I visit this place it has been fairly busy. It seems to be the sort of place that attracts regulars, who on my most recent visit were all seated around the bar. The bar is covered in British paintings and photographs. Food/Drinks: Drinks are good, plenty of choice and reasonably priced. The food...is so/so, it is fine but nothing special. That said service is fast, the food came out so quickly. I ordered steak, asked for it cooked rare...it was too well done for my liking. My husband really enjoyed the Sausage and Mash. Service: Generally quick, however the card machine was out of receipt roll when I used it thus I never got a receipt and waited 10 minutes to get on, which was the wrong receipt. Just a minor gripe as I hate waiting around when I am trying to pay/am ready to leave. Patio: Right on Esplanade, decent sized and worth a visit, if only for drinks! read more

Scotland Yard is a solid pub with your typical selection of pub favourites. It has a nice atmosphere and the right amount of lighting to fit the theme they are going for. Also offer two dart boards if that's your thing. (I was there the weekend before Halloween and there was a man dressed as a dart man). I had the pulled pork which was solid with fries. I went with a group of 16 on Saturday evening and we had a fantastic time. Our waitress, Heather, was phenomenal. She handled our party like a champ. She always got the drink and food orders correct for each person and she kept all the bills straight without issue as everyone was either a couple or individual. She was friendly and took the time to joke around with everyone. Based on the service alone, we will be back. We called last minute on a Saturday evening and they were able to get a large enough table together for us in under half hour. We had the back library all to ourselves which we really appreciated - allowed us to get up and mingle with each other without getting in the way of the wait staff and other customers. Caesars are fantastic! Food was decent. I had a cheeseburger which looked to be homemade and had a lot of flavour. Only complaint is that they really skimped on the cheese. I didn't taste it at all! Side Caesar salad was also great. It had grated fresh parm as well as real bacon bits. The crouton weren't the big massive ones, but perfect bite size pieces. My friends had a variety of things: wings, sliders, poutine, Cajun wrap, nove sandwich, garlic cheese bread with bacon and gave it all rave reviews. One friend commented that the spicy wing sauce wasn't spicy at all and had to ask for hot sauce on the side. All the food came out together and hot which we felt was huge for a party of our size. Scotland Yard is my local watering hole. I love it because: 1. it's close to my condo 2. has two dart boards The darts are great entertainment when you're in the mood for an afternoon drink, or don't feel like doing much in the evening, or you've just left Beir Markt and don't feel like going home. If you're not going to Scotland Yard to play darts, I really don't know why you're going there. It's an otherwise average place that seems to get pretty busy on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is cheap but good for the price. I particularly like the tangy tzatziki in the chicken warp. There is a nice patio on the Eslpanade in the summer and they make some tasty ceasars. One tip for any other regulars: if you put your business card in the fish bowl by the door they'll mail you a "VIP" card that gets you 20% food. read more

I come here almost every Thursday in the summer with several teams from a softball league - we overtake the place and are loud, rowdy and hog the dart boards - and they welcome it. That's cool with me. Anytime I have gone there on a non-baseball night, the servers have been pleasant, attentive and quick. This place isn't shiny like Bier Markt but is no less impressive inside than Fionn Maccool's a few stops over...usually if you stick your head in on a random night you'll see 5 old men sitting scattered throughout, but if you're cool with that then go for it! The food is 400 times better than the Spaghetti Factory next door, and not as obnoxious as Bier Markt. Has a decent patio in the summertime too, which is usually rammed. I wouldn't recommend specifically going here with all the other options around, but if you do you'll be fine. read more

Terrific vibe, great place to get filled before a Leaf's or Raptors game, a concert, or just plain ole' good service and pretty good food. Their sweet potato fries are a step above, fish n' chips only slightly lesser. SUPER service, the waitress had a great sense of humor, a solid sense of timing, and totally on the ball. It's a tad noisy (it's a pub, yeah?) and the dart boards were constantly busy with competitors and spectators. There is a more intimate area to the back; it was packed so I had to sit by the non-functional fireplace. It's cozy and warm in there, and when the temp is -1F, it was a welcome respite.
