Service and ambience is still good. Unfortunately the overall food and menu have degraded significantly since I last came by. Gone are the meatloaf, The Swiss mushroom burger, the Gouda mac and cheese. The roast beef dip is excessively salty. The burger patty is not worth $5. McDonald's $2.50 quarter pounder patty is more worth it. I don't think this place will be here by the end of the year. And I won't be visiting voluntarily from now on. We went out with another couple for a pub night. We had the beef nachos, French onion soup, samosas, steak and ale pie, firkin burger and the regular burger don't recall the name. The nachos were a great size for sharing for the 4 of us. There was leftover to take home. Average amount of cheese and good amount of beef and toppings. Out friends said the French onion and samasas were cold but the chutney could have been better. I thought the forkin burger with fries and added the beer cheese sauce on the side. The burger was outstanding with grilled onions. The cheese sauce was a little bit runny but good. My wife enjoyed the steak ale pie with mashed potatoes and lots of peas. My buddy said the regular burger was good as well. The fries could be improved to go along with the quality burger. Sorry forgot to take photos today. The device was very good and the server brought refills well before we got to the bottom of our glasses. We will be back and I will add photos. The food is mediocre, but they offer great deals on drinks from Sunday - Friday. On Game Day they also offer decent deals for drinks and food. The day I went was a colder night and it wasn't as busy. But it's definitely a rendition of an English/British Pub, with plenty of space. I ordered the Butter Chicken Flatbread ($14) and a Beer Flight of 4 tastings ($8). Let's get one thing straight, as an overall the food and drinks were simply OK. I enjoyed the apple and ice cream dessert at the end as well as the Moscow mule I ordered though. A surprise evening meeting brought me out to this Markham venue on a Sunday of the Victoria Day long weekend. This English-styled pub features two patios; main floor and rooftop. Food offerings are standard British fanfare of Pub Salad $14, Firkin Burger $14, Skillet Mac N' Cheese $13, Shepherd's Pie $15, Fish & Chips $18, Bangers and Mash $13, Wings $14, to list a few. As for drink specials, between now and the end of May, 1oz Night Caps (of Jack Daniels, Jaegermeister, Jameson, or Jose Cuervo ) are $5 on Monday-Friday from 10pm to close. Update from my last visit. Seems like The Owl has changed their menu. They now include calorie counts for each of their meal. That's very good in terms of being socially responsible. So I tried the triple bacon stack sandwich... This thing is mad, and tasty. Lol! Loaded with 3 kinds of bacon and bacon mayo. Plus there's arugula and sauerkraut on a toasted rye bread. The Owl & Firkin is a good place for a night cap if you are in the 404/Woodbine area. There are a good selections of Drafts with some seasonal specials. I wish they have a beer list because the waitress was almost out of breath when she tried to do a run down of what available. There are also daily specials.. Monday and Tuesday the chicken wings are 60 cents each with a few flavours aside from the standards. There are great booth seating that gives you quite a bit of privacy. Peri Peri flavour chicken wings are A-OK... spicy and well flavoured and the wings itself are quite moist and light. There are 4 TVs surrounding our booth area and free WIFI... so you might think your friends are listening to you but they really either watching the game on one of the TVs or yelping.... Ordered a beer flight where you could choose from 4 beers for $8. Also ordered their fish tacos which was $13 for 2. They used basa fish and I really enjoyed it, good portion size as well. It had bits of jalapeño, so it was a little on the spicy side but tasty nonetheless. They had a food/drink special everyday except for Saturday which was unfortunate. I never heard of this place before, but I came here the other day because I won a contest. It's a cute and quiet pub, with lots of parking. The staff were very nice, there was even one guy who was able to guess the day of the week that you were born, if you told him the month and date; it was super cool. This rating is really more of a 2.5 stars. I agree with what user Hetal said. It's a place I'd return to for drinks (if I had no other options) but definitely not for food. Nothing special. The macaroni was not al dente, the cheese was undercooked. The spicy chorizo portion was sooooo tiny you wouldve had to pick it out with your fingers. My girlfriend had the very large poutine. It was not good at all and had TATER TOTS in it????!!! which was certainly very strange. My buddy across from me ordered chicken curry. It came with rice, cucumber raita and naan bread. The curry itself was quite mild, almost bland in fact. It was also lukewarm. The naan was average. The raita was surprisingly good. The friend beside him ordered the fried fish tacos and he said they were a disaster. When I tried them for myself I understood why. The fish was definitely not fresh and felt like it had been microwaved. The slaw was also not cold which is a big no no. Best thing about this place is the huge number of tv's and the drinks. This is a tough spot to find if you don't know exactly where to turn as the logo is big but a rather unremarkable grey in colour. Going north on Woodbine, it's the third set of plazas after Steeles. If you see Frankie Tomatos, you've gone too far (look for the bright yellow MILANO FOODWORKS sign)! Once you get there, the British-themed pub has got some goods. It was a fun and loud atmosphere when we got in, and turned out to be KARAOKE night (every Wednesday, folks!) It was my third time here, and having been dealt the responsible driver card, I didn't drink - but I fondly remember enjoying their selection here before. In fact, this was my first time coming here for a MEAL! Service is sound. It was fairly busy (and from what I recall, usually is at night), but we were greeted, seated, given the option of menus, turned them down, changed our minds, and got them back. They've got these mildly interesting fold up menus and it can get confusing trying to track down where everything is (THE WINGS ARE ON THE BOTTOM LEFT!) because they do have a lot. But let me get this out of the way: if you don't know what to get, JUST GET THEIR DAILY SPECIAL. A good number of our team got the Wednesday special, which was a pound of wings for $10. The cajun rub is actually pretty good here, but what stole the show was the GHOST PEPPER WINGS. They have a seething, slow kick, and will present a toasty lip burn - not the worst spice we've had, but certainly not something you'd want after an exhausting game of hockey. BUUUT, it is entertaining to eat as ateam, and, once you get past the spice, it's actually really good! Another friend got the Cheesy Spinach and mushroom baked penne, with garlic bread. True to it's name, this sucker is fairly cheesy (moreso than my yelp puns) and was decent. The garlic bread had a unique tinge of taste that I can't quite put my finger on - it wasn't your regular garlic bread (nevermind that it was served in a heart shape - I guess it was the week of Valentines?) Lastly, the three Yorkies - a combo of Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, and beef. In theory, delicious. However, I can say honestly that it wasn't particularly impressive. It had a funky taste to it, and was definitely smaller than I thought was worth (not $12!) Ultimately, though, everyone who got the daily special seemed to be a happy camper, so that's what I'd go with if I came back. They have a different food and drink each day - Rickard's Red on Saturday, and Heineken on Mondays look like good deals! read more

I frequent quite a few Firkin's and this one was really underwhelming, the service was very slow and it was on a weekend for the playoffs Raptors Game 3 but there weren't that many patrons. The waitress didn't seem very interested in taking the order which really dampened the whole experience (and we lost). Her lack of effort was somewhat salvaged by a friendly bartender. Other positive aspects of the joint: the place is nice and there are enough screens where anywhere grants a view of a screen. Ordered a decent pour of Guinness (x2) and the fried pickles were good, portion was a bit small, the waffle/lattice fries. Don't recall what my companion had as I was quite annoyed with the waitress as well as immersed in the Raptors game. I have come here many times now, not necessarily because it's such a fantastic place, but more so because it is conveniently located to where my group plays volleyball. FOOD: Standard pub fare. They have discounted specials every day, including burger special on Mondays. The food itself is actually not bad, albeit somewhat overpriced. The first time I came here the Beef Dip sandwich I ordered had MOLD on an entire bottom side of the bun. When I pointed this out to the server, he mentioned that it was sesame seeds...um, nooo there was very obvious mold growing on what was apparently stale bread. The server did replace the dish however, and the fresh version of the sandwich was actually quite good. SERVICE: The main server isn't the friendliest guy, but food is usually fairly prompt. A WARNING to others that this place not only institutes an auto-gratuity for groups of I believe 6 or more, but they do not inform you ahead of time, or after. Worst of all, the auto-gratuity is not even listed as such...it just appears as a blank space on the receipt! ATMOSPHERE: We started coming here because it is a good place to watch the game. It is still good for that, even though accommodating larger groups might be tougher. VERDICT: I am typically unforgiving when restaurants use deceptive tactics to cheat their customers. It did not happen the last time I was convinced by my group to return though, nor have I seen anymore mold since the first time. Part of the Firkin chain, this location is one of the better ones! I have been here many times over the years and the food is consistently good. The service is also friendly and they have some good daily specials. The best thing about this place is the rooftop patio! Uptown, there aren't many good patios and I would say this probably one of the best. They also have a ground floor patio if the roof top is not open (I think it is closed during the lunch time and if it is too windy). Also lots of TVs if you want to watch a game here. read more

I am a big fan of this place. The Owl is cool English themed sports bar, I watched most of the NBA playoffs here as they also take reservations. They have a patio open in the summer which is pretty nice for the area. They recently updated their menus, but look for the daily food and drink specials. The Owl and FIrkin has gone through some positive changes since the last time I came here, and based on feedback from friends who've recentely visited this bar. Probably one of the better pubs that are just north of the city, and specifically in Markham. logistically, it being right off Highway 404 and Steeles it's very convenient to get to, but can be easily missed. Parking is convenient and there's plenty of space avialable here, especially on a Saturday night. The Owl features daily specials for food and drinks, and Saturday we took advantage of their $5 Rickards/ Creemore Pints. Food is pretty good, and they keep it simple British pub-style type of food which is important! Simple is good! The layout of the place is nice, open concept, and easy to walk around. MOst of all a lot more bright interior, with a dart board, plenty of tv's, in comparison to the old, dark, and grungy style this place used to be. The menu is typical British pub fare done well. They have a good selection of draft beers including a couple Toronto craft beers. So to start off great place. Was back twice on this trip. Based on service and food quality alone I may have given this restaurant/pub five stars. The loaded nachos (with all options) and the chicken curry were great dinners for me. absolutely loved both. I'd come back. My one negative point is that for GF visitors the website has an allergen menu that lists a number of dishes as GF that have tarot tots and fries in them. The issue is that there are no dedicated fryers as per the servers who asked the kitchen and as they joked with me about. The raw potatoes are GF so therefor that's why the dish on the allergen menu online is listed as GF. Sorry can't eat the raw potato :). This cavalier response is what's resulting in the less than perfect review. The servers also noted they don't have any control over the corporate website and their local GF menus were more regularly updated with what they can serve GF. A simple dedicated fryer would make this a goto spot in this area for GF travelers especially how close it is to the Marriott. read more

I must say that the staff were the kindest people ever, but that could also be that I'm from the US. We had a larger group come in for happy hour and they did a great job of accommodating all of us. They brought out our drinks very fast and had good suggestions for food. The food is just okay, but honestly it was a really great time. Disappointing. Been a patron of the Owl for years. We've been coming here for most of the Raptor's playoff run, and even gotten quite acquainted with the mostly friendly staff there. After a big Raptor victory, we stayed into the night to celebrate. Spirits were high, but were quickly spoiled when the manager on duty (I believe Cailyn was her name) basically scolded the group for being noisy, and boisterous. At the time, it was an empty restaurant. "you need to shut up, it's annoying." Wow, I don't care who you are. Not cool, you shouldn't call your customers annoying. Especially when they're dropping $50 a head with a good 10-15 deep every game. We're reasonable people, just come by and ask nicely. Anyways, we'll be taking our business elsewhere. read more
