But they said their souvlaki was popular. 3 people ordered that. I got their fish tacos. And they were a good size and flavourful. My friend wanted fries with gravy. The fries were great. Straight from the fryer and very crispy. The gravy was on the watery side. So didn't like that as much. They said they make their own tartar sauce so we asked for it to dip with fries. It was much better. I must say. Their cocktails were really good!! Everyone enjoyed it!!! Sangria was yum! And blue Hawaii was my fave. So overall. It's a good summer spot. read more

Jake's On Main in Unionville is dog friendly with a nice outdoor patio with plenty of umbrellas for shade and heat lamps available when it is cold. You can find Jake's On Main right next door to Old Country Inn Restaurant and a few doors down Old Firehall Confectionery with street parking available and (free) parking lots available just a short walk away. My husband, our little girl dog and I came here with my friend and her mother and their cute little dog. My friend picked this restaurant since it is dog friendly and also we were feeling pretty hungry after walking around and hanging out in the area. We entered through the patio, which happened to be the time an employee was outside serving another patron. So she seated us immediately (she actually told us to find ourselves a table that we would feel most comfortable). We came on a Monday night, and since it was a little chilly, we were able to get the heat lamps on. The employee who took our order was also so thoughtful in suggesting to bring hot water for us and also warm water for the dogs so everyone can warm up. After we looked over the menu, my husband and I ended up ordering: Steak and Mushroom Poutine, $21 prior to tax- My husband decided to order this, although in the past, we have had poutine in Canada and just didn't like it. But he was hopeful that this might be different since this is served with grilled steak and sauteed mushrooms (and with gravy, cheese and served over fries). Not the pretties of dishes, the portion size of this dish is more than plenty for one person. I actually thought it was good, the steak was cooked perfectly and so were the mushrooms. But I thought there was just too much gravy and cheese. I just thought it was too much and really could only eat a few bites. My husband enjoyed this dish and finished it. Mediterranean Bowl, $23 prior to tax- This bowl came with brown rice, quinoa, chickpeas, black beans, red onions, black olives, tomato slices, cucumber slices, feta cheese and gyro meat. I had requested for the dressing to be placed on the side and to omit the onions since I was planning on sharing a little bit of my food with my little girl (onions are a no- no for dogs). The bowl was a great portion and I was definitely full. I loved the variety of grains and beans in this dish. The gyro meat was tender and flavorful and the brown rice was cooked perfectly. --------------------------- My friend ended up doing the sneaky thing and paid for our meal (saying that she had to go inside to use the restroom and then paid for the check...) and also tipped big since we had such amazing service. At the time (and still now), I had seen that the overall rating of Jake's On Main was 2.8 stars and was thinking that we would have a poor experience, but we had the complete opposite. I really thought we would be forgotten since we were sitting outside, but that server who sat us was very attentive. She was just so good at anticipating our needs for water, napkins, etc. I didn't even have to ask her, it is as if she read my mind because she would be right there when I had needed something (such as a refill on water, a new fork because I dropped mine by accident, etc). My friend had said that she has been to Jake's On Main a few times with her mom and their dog and have always had such great service and also like the food. So I am glad she picked this place and would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for those that may be looking to dine outdoors with their dog too. read more

My family and I love main Street Unionville! The vibe is on point and the setup is so quaint and lovely. It is also the Mecca for people who like to play pokémon go! Although there are many restaurants lining the street, the selection of actual affordable and tasty places is very limited. We always default back to Jake's on main because it has a lot of seating and the menu has a lot of traditional dishes that even the children would enjoy. Service, taste and pricing is very mediocre. But we still go because it is at the center of the hustle and bustle of main Street. Would I recommend people coming? Not wholeheartedly, but it is one of the more favorable places to eat with young children, then the other places that are options along the street. read more

The go to spot in Markham Unionville on a nice sunny day for patio season. You can find this spot with long lines whenever it's a sunny day outside in Markham, Ontario. The service is slow and we waited a long time for our food, which I can understand since it was the first warm day of the year for us (they were probably unprepared for this). Most of the wait staff are on the younger side but still serve quite well, so kudos on the training! It's your typical bar food here like burgers, nachos and fries. You really can't go wrong with typical bar food. The highlight for me during this time's visit was definitely the pina colada. It tasted like I was on vacation and I enjoyed every sip of it. Couldn't even taste the alcohol! Food like I said took a long time to come out. I mean, VERY long. Taste wise, the nachos are always great and nice for sharing. Poutine is standard. You really come here for the great vibes and outdoor patio. But the bonus is definitely the tasty drinks ;) I'd probably be back here in the summer again since it's a chill hangout spot with friends that is easily accessible. read more

This place has a amazing and huge patio on Main Street Unionville. Went for a late meal on a nice Saturday night. Patio was packed and they had a DJ start playing around 10pm. Service was good. They have a huge menu with lots to choose from including a lot of pub food and a few more creative options. The pizza really stood out. Nice crispy crust with a sauce that is a little sweet and a good amount of toppings. They also make a decent frozen lime margarita. Nice place to relax and have a meal on a summer evening. read more

The service was excellent, that's what the 2 stars are for. The manager is horrible. Here's what happened: I received my food. Within 15 seconds I saw a small black hair in my food (I have long brown hair, so it's clearly not mine). I let the server know. She was embarrassed on behalf of the restaurant, offered to have it remade and told me she would speak to the manager about a discount. As someone who was a server for a very long time (I worked in the industry for over 10 years), the server did everything she could and I fully appreciated her position. It was remade in about 10 minutes and I had my meal. At the time of the cheque, I saw that no discount was applied and I asked the server about this. She of course immediately said, "let me go check with my manager". The manager comes over and says, "because we remade your food, no discount will be given. If we were to discount every mistake we would be out of business". In all my years of working in the industry, as well as being a patron, I have never seen a manager respond this way to a customer about a disgusting mistake like hair in the food. So I would warn you: they clearly make mistakes (enough that, as the manager said, if they were to discount the food they would be put out of business) and the management doesn't care at all about your repeat business or righting the wrong. read more

Yesterday we stopped by for dinner and there were definitely pros and cons. The Pros: The employees were very friendly and the patios are heated making them very toasty during the colder months. The Cons: If you order the Seafood Fettuccine the shells of the mussels will be broken within your dish and you could cut your mouth, choke on it or cause more internal damage. The Ambiance: I really enjoyed the outside patio and the tables that are not under any of the decks have fire heat lamps that create a really cool ambiance. Inside the restaurant it was dark, chilly and a bit gloomy. I wouldn't recommend dining inside. The Food: We ordered the Seafood Fettuccine and the Tuna Mango Bowl. The Seafood Fettuccine was tasty and it had thick linguini noodles and a creamy tomato sauce. My partner didn't like the random pieces of sharp shell tossed within the dish that made this a hazard to eat. My partner rated the flavour a 3.5/5 for the shell issues. The Tuna Mango bowl was good but had one huge flaw. The mango chunks in my dish were previously frozen making the mango have a mushy texture. The mango was such a turn off in this dish and it took this dish from a high rating to a much lower rating for me. I would say the mango took this dish to 2-stars. The texture was off and they were frozen particles on the outside of my mango. It was pretty disgusting. If the restaurant is reading this, using fresh mango could take this dish to a 4 star rating. The tuna was really good and I really liked the combination of quinoa, rice, black beans, tomato, and onion. Would we return? It's not likely we would return to this location. It's possible if we were just craving a drink we would return but they didn't have many gluten/dairy free options for me and I didn't like the mango tuna bowl at all, meaning I wouldn't have any options I'd really enjoy on the menu. read more

The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a light seasoning. Would definitely recommend the creamy dill as dip. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. I tried this place for the first time the other day for lunch, and I thought the spot was okay. The plus points were the patio was quite big, there was no wait to be seated, and the service was friendly. The food however was meh, nothing to really rave about. We started with the mozzarella sticks which were just okay. The presentation was a little weird, with a few little strings of lettuce on the plate. For mains we ordered the buffalo chicken grilled cheese, which was probably the best item we got. Good flavour, but also a little bit on the heavy side as the chicken was breaded. We also ordered the California club which I was disappointed with. From the menu description it sounded like it was going to be a flavourful dish, but it was honestly quite bland, and we were not impressed. You can choose from pizzas, protein bowls, burgers, tacos, wraps, pastas, poutines, etc. Not really worth going into detail about the food... mostly because there isn't much to say in terms of taste. It's pretty standard and nothing really worth noting. It's not an expensive restaurant; the pricing is pretty standard and you get what you pay for. I still consider this place as one of the best patios that I've sat on over the years, and I mean many years. Can't believe my first time here was when a Motorola pager was a way for someone (a.k.a Boss) at work to get in touch with me. Yes Kids, look up pagers on the internet and roll your eyes! There's something about sitting under a canopy of huge trees & patio umbrellas enjoying brews and finger foods, and looking at an old house converted into a restaurant. It's strange that I just want to sit and enjoy the surroundings with my friends; people walking smalltown Unionville, motorbikes (and other vehicles) cruising the strip with their loud powerplants & screeching tires, or tiny birds swooping in to pick up food scraps off the tables. I used to frequent Jake's On Main often (back in my University days); however, ever since I moved out of the area, I haven't really been back (especially with all the congestion and the pain to look for parking!). We decided to head out one evening, when they had their Bandstand event every Thursday evening. As soon as the bandstand event ended, many people cleared out, so we decided to head over to Jake's On Main for a bite to eat. I ordered a chicken parm sandwich and my husband ordered a salad with steak added as an option. The lady who served us was great -- very friendly and attentive, but other than that, I honestly think the food is overpriced for the quality and quantity. While the patio seating is good -- there were some distracting features: for instance, they had these light fixtures that flickered between red, green, etc., and while my back was against it, for my husband, he found it very irritating to look at. Moreover, I really think they need to do something about the mosquito issue -- perhaps light a few citronella candles during the summer evenings? It would definitely make the patio a lot more pleasant! First for the good, the service, the staff the expediency were all good. Staff was very kind and helpful. What was subpar for me was the food quality and the beer selection. Wings were delicious, but other food we got was not good. Steak frites had a lot of sauce that made the sweet potato fries all soggy. Would recommend sauce on side and just stick with regular fries. Calamari, well i guess i should've expected it to not be great. Beer selection, they had a lot of variety to choose from, just pretty much mostly all macro or macro posing as micro. Came here on a Saturday night. Pretty packed and pretty patio lights. Service: Our server was really nice and always smiled. Although, majority of the time, she was nowhere to be seen. Oh we tried...did we ever try. We visited this establishment twice. The first time we were sat in the patio and waited 15 minutes. No one came to greet us or take a drink order so we left. We have it a few months and thought we would give them another try. We were sat upstairs and while we were greeted and had our drinks quickly...that's about the only good thing that happened. We ordered mozzarella sticks. They came on what appeared to be a leftover plate that had about 12 pieces of lettuce. I'm assuming the sticks were supposed to be presented on a bed of lettuce but all it looked like is someone didn't finish their salad and you put my food on top of it. The sticks were meh. He had the fish and chips. Fish only comes with one piece and it is the smallest piece I've seen on a fish and chips dinner. Fish was overcooked. I had buffalo chicken fingers...they were overcooked as well which left them to be dry. After we finished our meal our plates were taken and we waited 20 minutes before we saw our waitress again to ask for the check! Mind you...there was only two parties sitting upstairs!!! The week before that, I came here on Friday night to hang around the bar and again, enjoy a few beers with friends. This time, it was not so fantastic. First, let's talk about the good. They've got a wonderful outdoor space that's large and comfortable. They've got a great drink and food selection with some hearty pub favourites like meat pies and burgers. The servers were extremely friendly and even though they were very busy, we didn't have a huge problem getting their attention. But what happened the Friday before?? My friends and I got here at around 10 pm. It was pretty empty for a Friday night, but it was also chilly outside so it was understandable. All we wanted was a place to talk, chill, and drink so we took seats by the bar. For some reason, there were kids running up and down the stairs. Not Jake's problem at all, it just got me thinking about how it was past their bedtime. It was nice for the first 30 minutes or so. Then suddenly, they decided they needed to pump the place up or something. Not that it was the crowd to do it with; there were maybe 10 people on the ground floor, and probably families up on the second floor since there were kids. The DJ started blasting some clubbing music about 2 feet away from us. So here we were in a nearly empty establishment, unable to hear each other talk, beats blasting into our ears, with kids knocking over popcorn from the popcorn machine. At some point, we even heard one of the waitresses telling the DJ to turn it down. Was this a bar? Was this a family restaurant? Was this a club? I left very confused with my ears ringing that night. I really want to like Jake's On Main.. The patio is huge and it will be so cool to hang out here and have a drink under those umbrellas on a hot, sunny afternoon... But.. Services here really sucks!!! The hostess put us at a table close to their roof with water dripping on my friend's head.. and when I told her that, she just said it is just too bad.... and there were tons of empty tables around so I just move myself to another table. Services extremely slow... but luckily we were not in a big rush.. but our lunch last almost 2 hours on a weekday?! Maybe I just look like I am retired and have plenty of time. Food wise is meh, but I don't expect much from a pub style food establishment. Meat Pot Pie ($9.99) is on the salty side... really really salty but an excuse to have more beer?? Fish Tacos ($9.99) is not bad but the side green salad is like days old.. a little rotten and little soggy... I should have go back to Blacksmith's Bistro instead! Nice lunch on patio. Service was fast and friendly in spite of busy Sunday afternoon on long weekend. I got Southwest bowl, no complaints. My husband got a wrap, my son got a burger. I agree it's a bit pricey but I really enjoyed being out in the patio and the food and service was good. read more
