It has been a while not being to Red Lobster as the last time we visited, the lobster was cooked very salty. This time we ordered choice of 2 from the lobster festival menu with mashed potato topped with lobster (added $7.99) The lobster was cooked right this time, but significantly smaller than ever. Basically we paid $65 just for three tiny dishes, the presentation is really not something you would like to dive in. The dinning hall is still the same decoration for so many years, but it has its special classic feels. It's been over 25 years since I last visited a Red lobster (Honolulu location), seafood was mediocre but their free Cheddar Bay biscuits were to die for. Past by this Ontario location so many times and it brought back memories of my Honolulu life. Decided to come on a Sunday approx 1200, at first I thought the place was closed due to an empty parking lot and no activity at the front entrance. but I guess it was early as other diners started to show up after we were seated but still not busy compared to other places I've gone to on a Sunday afternoon. Hyosung was our server, she took the time to explain the menu and the specials, very nice and efficient, checked on us a few times while we were devouring the seafood. I've waited over 25 years for their Cheddar Bay biscuits and they did not disappoint. Flakey moist crusty cheddary (not enough adjectives) goodness, just like I remembered. We ordered a bowl (not a cup) of clam chowder. A nice delicate creamy soup base with potatoes and nice tender flavorful clam chunks. We went with the Mariner's boil (check out menu), more than enough seafood for two. We went with the garlic butter sauce instead of the Cajun seasoning. Glad we did, if you like garlic and butter, you've just taken the express elevator to heaven without needing to confess your sins. What a huge improvement from what I remembered 25 years ago. Seafood didn't have that frozen salty mushy texture, it was fresh and firm. Please wear the plastic gloves they give you as the garlic butter was dripping down my forearms to my elbows. Kudos to Red Lobster corporate and local management, Red Lobster has risen from the bankruptcy ashes like a legendary Phoenix. With limited option of locations for this restaurant, the Yonge location is my choice over the the Shepperd location. The restaurant is the usual chain set up. We went early to avoid the crowds, so was empty and clean at the time. I must say, I was greatly surprised at the quality of the food. Usually it is just fine, not much expectation. We went here as it was my friend's go to place for her birthday crab legs. I ordered the Salmon New Orleans. The fish was fresh and cooked just right. The shrimp topping was also cooked well. It was quite good. I had green beans as the accompaniment which was fresh beans and also cooked just right. The other order was the crab legs with baked potato and Caesar side salad. The legs were also good, not over done so still moist. With the salad, I think you could almost even taste some anchovies in the flavour. The only complaint I would have, is that you have to pay an extra $1.49 to get Caesar salad, which was something you would previously get included with your entre. This should at least be able to count as one of the 2 sides, if they were no longer going to give as an included starter. Wood-Grilled Sirloin and shrimp scampi. This was the choose your own 2 selection. We had to pay an extra $3.99 to get the steak. The shrimps were fine. The steak was enjoyable, but one portion of the steak was a little tough. The garlic biscuits - yummy as always. As it was my friend's birthday, she got a complimentary chocolate wave dessert - chocolate cake and ice cream. She shared this with us. It was pretty rich, and quite moist & soft inside. There were some herbs inside which added complexity. Tilapia & scallops were ok. Neither was particularly notable. It came with 2 sides: coleslaw was a little raw. Mashed potato was pretty good, with some texture. And then there was the shrimp. There was a choice of 3 varieties. Garlic shrimp scampi was alright (the garlic butter didn't taste of much), hand breaded was decent (and came with decent cocktail sauce) and the shrimp skewer was decent (having a little nice sear). The shrimp had pretty good freshness and texture. Endless shrimp only came with 1 side (to make you get your money's worth with the shrimp, I suppose). The fries were alright. Absolutely horrible time at Red Lobster. It's only a Tuesday and not busy at all, but servers still manage to avoid their tables leaving us to ask the host and hostess to either find our server for us or ask another passing server for for water for the table, which never arrived, or to be able to place a order. Food came out on dirty stained plates that should have been throw out instead of serving food on dirty plates. When I asked to have the food replated on a different plate they threw out my order and cooked it again. Now this normally would have be on, if that's what I asked for. Instead the rest of my party practically finished their food before mine came back out. Only for it to come out with a hair on it. When the manager finally came to the table (I had to ask a host to find them as our server was no where to be found) they didn't seem very apologetic. I came to Red Lobster for their Four Course Seafood Feast! For $18, you get a soup, salad, entrée, dessert, and best of all- unlimited cheddar bay biscuits! Yum! There was so much variety and food for such a good price. I personally don't love red lobster's quality of food, but those buttery biscuits really tug at my heartstrings. I just can't stop eating them! You can choose between New England clam chowder and their soup of the day. We went with the chowder, and it was pretty hearty. There were a lot of potato chunks and vegetable, so I didn't feel like I was just eating cream. I wouldn't expect a really refined clam chowder from red lobster, so this more than met my expectations. Then, you get your choice of fresh Caesar or Garden salad. My boyfriend got the Caesar, and I got a garden salad. Again, nothing too special, but it's nice to have some veggies with the meal. I also liked the large variety of salad dressings available to go with my garden salad (I went with Thousand Island, my favourite). There are 7 choices for the entrée, unfortunately none of them involve lobster. Our choice was the hand-breaded shrimps, which came out a little too greasy for my liking. I also did not enjoy the pairing with the cocktail sauce at all. My boyfriend went with the "create your own feast" option, and chose peppercorn-grilled sirloin and island jumbo coconut shrimp: hand-dipped in coconut batter, then fried to a golden brown. The coconut shrimp was served with a piña colada sauce. The steak was pretty mediocre to me, but my boyfriend was satisfied. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the coconut shrimp! I could actually taste the coconut bits in the batter, and its subtle sweetness was wonderful with the crunchy texture. It wasn't any less greasy than the hand-breaded shrimp, but in this case, I didn't mind it at all. The piña colada dipping sauce was also a great complement to the coconut flavours. Our dessert from the four course feast was triple-chocolate brownie à la mode. It was unbearably sweet for me. I had one bite and that was more than enough. Luckily, the portion was quite small, so my boyfriend had no difficulty finishing it by himself. We had a lot of leftovers to pack home. I barely touched the hand-breaded shrimp and packed most of it to go. I would certainly come back for the jumbo coconut shrimp, since that is one of the 7 options for the entrée. Slow slow slow service. Red lobster is red lobster, if you've been here before you know what to expect. Chain restaurant and seafood. But today had a bad experience with a waitress. Waitress was obnoxious and seem rude. Initially fussing over how many babies were at the table and seemed to be frustrated with the fact that many babies were not eating the actual meals there. Not sure why she seemed annoyed, I guess less overall bill and less tip? After the fiasco with the head count she proceeded to tell us about the specials and went on a long long spiel and was forcing people to listen to her. What if I've already decided what I want and I'm super tired and zoned out, this is not a lecture! She took our drinks order and took like 30 mins to return with our drinks and this is 45 min since we've arrived and we have not ordered our food yet. We ordered our food and she had to get another waitress to help who was way faster than her. Finally our food came she just seemed super confused all the time. Can't do math. She would be gone for long periods of time and disappear. Everything is super slow. After a few small confusions with the food orders we finally finished our food. Now comes the confusion again. We asked if we could split the bill and she looked at us like we were aliens. She hesitantly attempted by asking each of us what we had, came to me the second person I told her I had a shrimp trio and she took like 5 mins looking up and down the bill and she could not find it. I was thinking we will be here til they are closed. So after realizing that she was not competent enough to split the bill not even as if she's never dealt with big parties before but as if she's never done math before, we knew we just had to split the bill ourselves in order to get out of there before our bed times. Red Lobster is a pretty safe bed in terms of food. But for those allergic to dairy (butter, cream, cheese) it can be a nightmare. I don't have a problem however, asking for my dish to be made dairy free. We were able to make a reservation for a Sunday afternoon. So I'm not sure why others weren't able to do that in years past. We came early at about 11.45am and the restaurant was pretty empty. Our server was Matt and he was good. We got all our drinks promptly and then some of our party needed time to decide on their mains so he left us to that. I ordered the salmon with squash and carrots (no glazing as that's dairy). My dish also came with a garden salad. The salmon was really good. Nicely cooked and tasted fresh. I wish I'd asked for the dinner portion as I still felt a little hungry afterwards. Ugh. I came here with family, but not by choice. There's something about big chain restaurants like these that I feel like it's a waste of money, and better value going to a local place that serves actual quality food. It was lunch on a Sunday, and I was surprised that even with our party of 12 people, we could not make a reservation. Instead we got there 20 mins earlier to ensure we had a table. Got a nice spot, in the quieter area in the back. Surprisingly the restaurant around kept getting fuller from 1pm onwards. When we left at 3:30pm it was full and there was a line up! Why are people's eating schedules so strange in north york?! We had two servers at the table, but both didn't seem to do much. I found it weird that they asked us (after 20 mins) whether we wanted drinks or not, when I believe they should have just taken our order, no need to ask. Our plates were never cleared properly or in time. After our meal, and when dessert came, our plates from the main were still on the table. They were never around either, I don't know what was the point. Not to mention, our soups and salads all came at different times. The menu at Red Lobster is huge and confusing. There are 3 different menus, regular lobsterfest and specials. There is also a lunch special for $8.99 plaque somewhere as well, not mentioned anywhere else. You can get a variety of things like fish, pasta, crab and lobster. But hard to find is anything not covered in butter or cheese. The hubby and I shared the Fire Grilled Lobster, Shrimp and Scallop ($28.99) that comes with a side or salad. Somehow we got them to add a cup of soup for $2.99 as well. For something like this, the portion seemed huge in the photo, but actually was quite small. But easy to fill yourself up with the never ending buttery biscuits. Other family members got some of the other $20+ platters that just all looked cream covered with butter and sauce. It all tasted okay, but can't really go wrong with it. The lobster tail was teeny tiny and not anything like the photos in the menu. I just feel that money would be better spent on quality food at the same price for a more fulfilling meal that doesn't put you to sleep afterwards. One of the main reasons we came here is that they have a an extensive allergen list for those who need it. But personally, I think if you just use a little brains you can figure out what you can and cannot eat and verify with the chef. read more

When we asked for 2 extra breads they brought us 6, and they were also informative as to the daily specials. The server was polite, thoughtful and attentive, which again seems to be reflective of improved staff training and perhaps not just specific to the server. These traits ensure repeat business. I was at Red Lobster yesterday for lunch with my mother for a "late" mother's day outing. The place was quiet on a Friday afternoon with seniors and some families. I got my mum the "create your lunch" special for $9.99 (pick two - My mum picked garlic shrimp and breaded shrimp) and I got the lobster and shrimp pasta. For drinks my mum got a hot tea and I got the Long Island Ice Tea (2.5oz) Our waitress Lisa was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The food on the other hand was mediocre at best. Red Lobster to me felt like the Swiss Chalet for seafood. My pasta was way too greasy and the plating for the "create your own" looks like something out of a cafeteria in high school. Having been to Red Lobster before I know I shouldn't expect fancy 5 star food or anything. but I simply feel the presentation could use some work. Once in a while when my family is craving a nice seafood dish close to home, we will go to Red Lobster in Thornhill. We've been going to this location for as long as I remember, and their renovations in the past few years has really modernized the place while still keeping true to the brand. They have many different selections in their menu. I always prefer their "Ultimate Feast" dish which includes crab, lobster, garlic shrimp, & etc. I always swap "Walt's Favorite Shrimp" which is basically popcorn shrimp, to their delicious coconut shrimp. There is an extra charge, which I found unnecessary. Steer clear from their lobster linguine, I had mine and it was absolutely soaked in oil. The plate wasn't hot, and tasted like it was left under a heater for a while. One pasta dish that is good is the lobster bake! It's filling, and has a variety of seafood in one dish. If you're craving mussels and scallops, this should be your go-to! One of the best appetizers to get is definitely the stuffed mushrooms, you will not be disappointed. With the appetizer, salad, and main dish, you'll be lucky to get to the dessert. I haven't had dessert at Red Lobster in a very long time because I'm always full. Though it's your typical chain restaurant, you always leave with a full stomach. My only critique, is that I wish the hostess was more friendly. She had zero energy, and looked like she didn't care about her job. Also, the waiters were not taking dishes away and clearing the table.
