I finally checked out this spot at 5469 Yonge Street -- noticed it a few times but never tried it till now. We got the "shrimp curry udon" and the "spicy cream udon", and both were packed with flavor. The spicy one was my favorite since I'm all about that heat! It's kind of a cool mix of Japanese and Korean styles with a bit of fusion. The total came to about $41.70 before tips, which felt pretty fair. The food looked nicer than I expected too. Seating wasn't the comfiest this time, but it's definitely a chill place to hang out, chat, and enjoy some beer or wine. Definitely worth a try--let me know if you like it!

Here's a rundown of the food I've tried at Menami: ***** Menami's spicy cream seafood udon is my favourite -- it's so tasty! This is the dish I'd keep wanting to return for. **** The Mentaiko udon was good, creamy and tasty ***^ Potato cream curry udon was good too. ** Baby octopus appetizer was just okay, it's mostly breading. I wouldn't especially want this again. Sometimes it can be a bit too busy to feel totally comfortable, but the restaurant looks good in terms of decor.

We had cheese udon and torched salmon tataki. It was all so good. I have 0 complaints and you can't go wrong here with how delicious it all is.

What can I say. Best izakaya experience ever! I finally had the chance to visit MeNami for their Winterlicious deal and I was very impressed with the overall experience and taste! The service was very friendly as we were greeted with warm kindness from the staff who made me and my friends feel like at home. They provided amazing recommendations of what to order based on the different combinations! The ambiance inside the restaurant is very cozy and cheerful to enjoy a fun night with friends! The food was excellent! From the perfectly seasoned Beef Tataki to the light and fulfilling Corn Kaki-Age that has a nice crunch, nothing can beat their awesome udon! The new Potato Cream Curry Udon has a nice balance of spicy and sweet which is very ideal for the winter season! The Spicy Cream Seafood Udon is also packed with lots of amazing flavour with perfectly cooked seafood! The Shrimp Shrimp Pasta is a nice east meets west dish that has perfectly cooked al dente pasta with the chili oil and shrimp! The Yaki Niku Udon has lots of amazing deep flavour from the broth while ensuring the udon has a nice bite! Overall, MeNami was well worth the years of wait to finally sample the udon and izakaya experience!

Ordered their udon with tempura on the side. Udon was lacklustre and tempura was crispy but nothing special. The portion size for the tempura was too little for the price. No close up pictures but the mentaiko creamy udon was SO much better. It was very creamy, almost like evaporated milk creamy, and the mentaiko wasnt fishy at all. Service was okay. It wasnt very busy when we walked in around 6pm but soon after, the tables started to fill up and the place was packed. Nice ambiance and theres a patio section but dont know if I'll come back to this place.

Came for dinner with a couple friends, I think they've expanded their menu! There were a lot of new appetizers. We got the miso yuzu salmon tartar ($13.45), which is deceptively small compared to the picture of it in the menu. It also didn't taste the greatest, but the corn kaki-age ($7.95) was light and crispy! I think it's a solid choice to get here. The potato cream curry udon ($18.95) looks small but it's actually super filling. The potato cream layer is cold but when mixed with the hot curry udon after, it actually creates the perfect temperature to eat the udon at. It's a really unique dish and Im looking forward to coming back to try it again :)

The drinks were good and light! Food was fine when it came to the appetizers they didn't stand out as much, but I have had there entrees before and they are delicious. The food took longer than expected to come out, as some dishes came out immediately where it seemed like we almost wait 20-25 mins for the next dish to come out.

my second time here. this time i came for the winterlicious menu. food is always amazing and unique here. to start, the salmon tataki was fresh and citrusy. the shrimp was fried to perfection - especially when paired with a shrimp chip! their iconic potato cream udon was sooooo creamy, rich, and delicious as usual. seafood udon was adjustable in spice level, and had lots of seafood toppings. matcha cheesecake and mochi were nothing special but still good. i always love the ambience here. feels warm and homey. reminds me of late night in japan. service was fast despite it being a snow day. amazing!!!!

I came here for Summerlicious for their $35 3 course dinner option. Food was decent, servers don't pay attention to you or take your plates away at an appropriate time. Not all, but a few servers were constantly talking amongst themselves by the bar. Appetizers: corn kakiage and beef tataki - amazing Main: curry udon with shrimp tempura - I loved the shrimp. Udon was pretty good. Curry was okay - I was surprised to see beef in it since it wasn't listed as beef curry on the menu, and the server seemed annoyed when I asked her questions Dessert: blueberry creme brule - amazing, green tea cheesecake - not fresh, a bit hard, couldn't finish it

MENAMI . . The last time I've been to @menamitoronto was probably pre-COVID. I remember loving their potato cream udon which they don't have anymore. I opted to try their new spicy seafood cream udon which was bold of me because I can't eat too spicy. However, I found the spice tolerable and the udon was flavourful. The shrimp and squid were good, but the mussels were so tiny they got lost in the dish. Also, the prices are pretty steep here considering the portion size. Even though the flavour was good, I'm not sure if I'll be back. For that price, there are better alternatives out there where you'll leave feeling more full. . . Spicy Seafood Cream Udon 3.75/5

Another one of my go to spots for date night. It can be a bit loud with dim lights but it is a vibe. The staff are pretty quick with their service too which is great! My go to is typically their mentaiko cream udon. I find it to be very flavourful and filling. It can be a bit pricey, but I'd say it's worth a try if you haven't been yet.

I went to MeNami with a few friends for Winterlicious. The first thing that I noticed about MeNami is that the environment is so welcoming, and the staff are incredibly friendly. My favourite appetizer was the Corn Kaki-Age. It was crispy, had some creaminess to it, and the corn was very juicy. It was pretty incredible. I also loved the Torched Salmon Tataki. It had a nice smoky flavour to it, and was also fresh and juicy. The main courses were delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised at how filling they were. I had the Shrimp Shrimp Pasta, and it was delicious. What I liked best about this dish was that the creaminess, the spices, and the cheese all popped out and came well together. I also tried the Potato Cream Curry Udon, and it was also perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. The prices are great for what they offer, and they have generous portions. I will definitely be back.

I'm happy to say that the udon here has improved compared to the last time I visited, although that was a while ago. The flavour of the broth, the texture of the noodles, and the portion sizes are now above average (or, well, my standards for "average" have had to decrease a bit). We all ordered the udon dishes with clear soup bases, and highly enjoyed the savoury but not overpowering taste (no food comas reported after the meal). We came on a busy Friday evening and service was alright - our waitress came to our table just as many times as strictly necessary. It's quite a crowded space here, definitely come prepared to speak loudly to be heard. Regardless, no one rushed us out the door which we appreciated. There are a few new items on their menu which I'm curious about, so I'll probably be back for those! :)

The beef was my favorite -- thin, tender, and cooked just right. Pork belly wrapped in lettuce with sauce was tasty, and lamb was a little tricky to grill but still flavorful. Seafood isn't the best for grilling -- shrimp and squid didn't have much flavor, and salmon and clams were okay. Veggies were solid though -- zucchini and mushrooms were cooked just right, and the grilled pineapple was sweet and delicious. Edamame was fine, takoyaki mostly batter but cute and tasty. It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes.
