I was craving some seafood and dropped by here with a friend. We ordered the Pirate's feast with lobster, mussels, clams and shrimp. We got both the Cajun and Captain's boil seasonings and both were equally delicious. The lobster was very fresh and delicious. Everything was delicious. We got the corn, okra as sides. They were a little bland and would have been nice to have seasoning. We added them to our seafood seasoning bags and got some of the flavour. Ordered for pickup for my husband's birthday. We've had positive experience before. But to our surprise, what we got was definitely not worth $120.00. The portions are just outrageously small. The cajun fries hardly had any cajun seasoning. At $8.99+tax, we got a small takeout Styro container that's not even full. So does the calamari at $16.99+tax was half the container it was before. The seafood fried rice container was also way smaller at $19.99+tax. We also got the clams with Captain Boil sauce, chicken wings and shrimp basket. Nothing was worth what we paid for. I want to preface this review by saying that I really wanted to love this place. I've heard so many great things about The Captain's Boil and my family and I were so excited to try it out! I went with my partner and our toddler. We ordered the rice, deep fried softshell crab, broccoli, fries and crawfish. I wanted to order the Lobster, but our waiter advised us not to and to order the crawfish instead because the portion was bigger. So, we followed his advice and ordered it. The rice was okay. The deep fished softshell crab was good, it was tiny, but the little piece that you did get tasted like sweet crab. The broccoli was okay, cooked and in a garlic butter sauce. The fries were okay. The crawfish. I cannot describe how bad it was. First of all, when you google photos of crawfish, they look like mini lobsters. The waiter agreed and said that's what we would get. What we got instead was shrimp-sized with lots of little legs - so it looked like a centipede. I have a phobia of centipedes, so I wasn't able to eat them. My partner and toddler also didn't eat them and they still charged us for them, despite telling them we cannot eat them. Our waiter was a teenager and did nothing for us. Overall, my initial impression is that the food is mediocre, overpriced and the staff are not helpful nor professional. I would not return nor recommend this place to anyone. read more

My wife and I went to this restaurant with great expectations as we love seafood and Cajun cooking. I would have given a 1 star rating if it had not been for the food which was actually very good. The service was absolutely terrible and very disorganized. There is a combination of bad attitude and just plain inexperience with how to create a good customer experience. We arrived around 5:30 pm with no line up and many open tables. It took over 10 minutes to be greeted while the hostess was chatting at the bar. After being seated, it took over 15 minutes to have a server come by and after I had to ask another server to find our server. After ordering 2 beers, another 15 minutes. This was very disturbing and really spoiled our dinning experience. I realize this restaurant has only been open for about 1 month but I expect much more. Where is the management who should be overseeing customer service??? One other issue: the air handling system seemed to be off and the place was extremely stuffy. So we asked about this. Then all of a sudden there is air flow! Such a shame. Poor management, inexperience, and certain employees who have no concept of how to serve customers and display bad attitudes. This place is great! I went there on a Saturday night around 8:30 PM. The restaurant was fairly busy. We were promptly seated. The server did not seem too familiar with the menu. But nevertheless it was pretty easy to figure out. We ordered 1lb of snowcrab legs - fantastic but my 11 yr old son ate most of it. He complained about it being too spicy (medium) but kept eating anyways!, 1lb shrimp with sausage added which was very good and enough for 2 people. 1 seafood fried rice - amazing! Not great. The rice dish was well put together but I also had 2lbs of cajun shrimp with okra. The okra was undercooked but still tasty. However, I found that the shrimp hadn't been cleaned properly. The shrimp hadn't had the digestive system cleaned out properly. I was wondering why the shrimp had a mouth feel of pastey and now I know why. To put it bluntly there was shrimp shit in the shrimp. I've had Captains Boil in Toronto and it's fantastic. So I figured I'd try it out in Ajax. Needless to say I'll be taking the train to Toronto the next time I wan't to eat Captains Boil. read more

Came here for a nice dinner out on Valentine's Day. Love the concept but the place is very disorganized. The wait was very long and service was poor. I never saw anyone in charge when I was there and our waitress never came by to check on us. My husbands food came a half hour before mine so we basically ate separately. It took them a very long time to realize I had not received my meal so they " checked on things" and realized they were out of two if the items. Long story short they comped part of the bill but we left starving. Disappointed I was hoping to love this place as we are huge seafood lovers and the concept is great just poorly executed. read more

AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS! This location is just terrible! I've been to other locations and enjoyed the food and just happened to be in Ajax so wanted to grab something to eat. First of all, they messed up our order. Asked for cajun fries and got regular fries which were soggy. When we wanted to tell someone. NONE of the servers were making eye contact or when we would say excuse me would get ignored. Literally took an hr just to get a servers attention to refill water, get more ketchup and tell them that our order was wrong. Had to keep reminded the server we asked for extra ketchup. When they remade our fries they only gave us one serving of cajun fries when both of our orders were wrong. Then when we asked for 2 take out boxes, we only got one even though clearly both of us still had a lot of food left. The customer service here is just awful. The time it takes them to get you seated, take your order, prepare your food or even bring you fucking water is ridiculous. And the food tastes autrious compared to other locations. Although the food tasted as good as before- our order of shrimp in cAjun sauce was as flavourful as expected, calamari was fresh and crisp, but most probably due to understaffing, our subsequent orders of drinks and more calamari never arrived. Positive: Service was good Other: You are served your food in a plastic bag and eat with your hands - this wouldn't be bad if I were a Gypsie or Viking. Now fortunately I am quite strong (I goto the gym) so I was able to snap the crab legs open with some effort however it would have been nice to have a cracker for the shells, a fork would have been nice for that matter. I asked for a glass of water and it came in a paper coffee cup. I am assuming the theme of the restaurant is supposed to be Carnival or Street vendor? Not sure but I am sure I won't be going back. Amazing. Took my family to eat there. Lobster in their Captain Boil's sauce with a medium heat was perfect. Lot of meat in their snow crab legs too. My mother ordered the clams and muscles. Was enough to satisfy her appetite. Owner was great to chat with. Highly recommend ordering the rice and using the container to put sauce in for further dipping. This is a terrible dining experience. We have been to the other Captain's Boils and had good time there. So we found this restaurant online and drove all the way there. First we were told only wine and beer and nothing else. Fine. And then we were served with paper plates, plastic spoons and foam bowls. The one you will use for BBQ at home. Again we were told they were out of plates and whatever. Food was ok but there were flies around us the whole time while we were eating. At the end before paying the bill we spoke to the supervisor (the manager was not there) about our concerns. She didn't seem care and gave us bad attitude. When I mentioned about the flies her answer was "yeah yesterday I was in a restaurant with flies too. " unbelievable!! I think public health should go there and check it out. Strongly not recommend anyone to eat there. I have to choose one star in order to post this. read more

Hear me when I say this, this is some of the best seafood you can get for an affordable price. If you gave me the choice to go here or Red lobster(lowkey rip off except for the​ biscuits) in picking captains. It's a bit messy, if you are not trying to eat with your hands you might not enjoy it as much. But, they do have other options that you can just use utensils. I've been to several other locations of The Captain's Boil and this location was the most disappointing. I ordered the muscles and it contained a lot of sand. It was a turn off biting into gritty food. I've always ordered the muscles and that was the first time I was grossed out. I tried some of my friends crab and that was great! Since when did it become okay to serve food in plastic bags? Turn off number one. I brought my boyfriend for his birthday expecting this place to live up to the hype only to be completely and utterly disappointed. We ordered snow crab legs, shrimp, mussels, broccoli, potatoes and rice. The snow crabs were not pre-cracked and were incredibly difficult to open as we were not given any tools before asking. Turn off number two, the shrimp were not de-veined meaning we had to put even that much more effort into our dinner. The only thing we didn't have to do was kill the shrimp ourselves really. The mussels were okay. The broccoli was $7 for not even a head of broccoli, menu says it would come in garlic sauce but it was just steamed with butter. The potato was just that, a potato in a bag, cut in half and tasteless. I would tell you about the rice, but unfortunately or not, it never made it to our table. After struggling with a few shrimp and one or two crab legs, we gave up frustrated. We really just wanted to leave and were completely turned off by the whole experience. After waiting and waiting for a waitress or a staff member to come by, I had to seek out the manager myself, and tell him about my experience. I offered to pay for a small portion of the meal yet he still came back with a $35 bill, claiming that as a manager, he's powerless to make any changes. This specific location has no flavour to their food! I've tried many locations many times but it's as if this location taste like they don't put any flavour in it. Enjoyed a meal here with four others and it was delicious! I've been to another location before and this, by far, had better atmosphere. It's a large space with lots of tables and it was nice and bright. It's perfect for large groups. We ordered shrimps, mussels, king crab, and clams and enjoyed all of them as they were perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and courteous and the servers were mostly knowledgeable, especially given that they just recently opened. I would definitely be back here for another visit. read more

Went there and they didn't give any knives and forks. Was going to leave but was hungry. They gave me a metal fork and plastic knife. Certainly they can provide silverware when asked. Not to mention the ecological effect of using a plastic knife. The restaurant was lucky to be 15 degrees Celsius. Had to keep my jacket on and drank my beer with gloves on. The two stars are for the food which was delicious. If I was basing this review on the food alone, it would be a 5; however, the service was deplorable! We went out for a birthday dinner (group of 12). We received our sides before we got our appetizers. Our meals came bit by bit. First we got the sides, then the meal, then the appetizer. Some appetizers did not even make it to our table. When we were almost done, the waitress (Abigail?) came to us and asked if we still wanted the appetizers. We said no because we were halfway done with our meals. When we finally got our food and were still eating, she came and asked us if we wanted the bill! We reminded her that we just got our food after over an hour wait! When we asked about dessert after dinner, she said they only had ice cream. Then she came back to say they had none of the flavours mentioned; just vanilla. There were so many mistakes made with our orders and no apologies for them. Instead we were overcharged and then kicked out because "there is a 2 hour limit!!" It didn't matter that we waited over an hour for our food. The restaurant was not busy; there were lots of empty tables and nobody was waiting. It was 10 pm. We were charged for more items than we ordered, as well as, for things we did not order. Throughout all this, we were very understanding. We did not get angry and we were all pleasant to Abigail. When she told us we have to leave because it was a 2-hour limit, I asked her what if we were still eating? We waited over an hour for our food. Did that time count in the 2-hour limit? She then replied, "It's ok. You don't have to leave. it is not busy. I was just mentioning it to you." Why bring it up then?
