Having eaten the best shrimp and crab boil at the North York location the night before....still craving more, I decided to order in from the Sheppard location which is near my home. I have avoided going back to the Sheppard location for years, as the food was always hit & miss. Hopeful the food had improved, I took advantage of the Uber eats 2 for 1 special... Sadly, the taste was not worth even 1 bag! I ordered: the Mild Cajun shrimp, with corn and potato as the sides. 1 look and I could tell it was not going to be as delicious as the other location. Instead of using the small whole potatoes as the other location did, they had a long russet potato that had been sliced lengthwise. These are great for French fries, but not so tasty boiled in Cajun sauce as they made the sauce starchy because it was cut open and disintegrating into the sauce. Also, it was so big that they were not fully cooked. While the corn on the cob was over cooked and dry as a bone. Most of the sauce had been absorbed by the AMAZON SIZED POTATO!! They setup our table of 8 and gave us the heads up there will be an automatic 15% gratuity for groups of 6 or larger. The menu does have some a la carte selections or you can choose one of their seafood feast combos. My sister-in-law was treating so she was ordering the food. We ordered the following items: 1. 2 x calamari $14.99 ea 2. 2 x lobster poutines $16.99 ea 3. 3 x 1 lb shrimps one garlic and two Captain Boil's sauce $18.99/lb 4. 2 x 1 lb Mussels $17.50/lb 5. Regular side of corn included with 3 & 4 6. Premium side sausage x 2 $6.99 7. Captain's Boil seafood fried rice $17.99 All the seafood had market prices due to fluctuation of cost of seafood. The seafood fried rice portion wise on the small side. The rice was late to the game and we would have appreciated if they brought that out before we ate all the shrimps and mussels. Food was great. They deploy robots to bring out the orders. Garlic sauce in the shrimps were kind of bland but the shrimps were crispy. The lobster poutine had nice pieces of lobster. Fries seemed to be soggy but the taste was on point. Sausage was juicy and we all liked it. Corn was cooked just right and really goes well with the seafood. Remember their sauce tends to be on the spicy side. We found the mild Captain Boil's sauce had just enough spice. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our Easter lunch and service was friendly. The total bill came up to $252 including 15% gratuity. The food is on the pricier side since we only ate shrimps and mussels. If I was ordering the food, I would go with two orders of the Matey's seafood combo feasts since you have a choice of 2 seafoods, Captain fried rice, shrimp basket, 1 premium side and 2 regular sides for $67.99. From a value perspective the feasts are the way to go with larger groups. Will come back again and try the feasts. The parking lot is in a state of disrepair lots of cracked pavement and potholes. A fun eat with your hand experience but overall very salty. For a family of 4, we shared a few things for dinner. Some are hits while others are misses: Sailor's A Set: OK: 1 lb garlic shrimp- lots of flavour but very salty HIT: Fried Rice- excellent flavour! MISS: Cajun fries- extremely salty. Also, we had 2 baskets of these and one is crispy while the other is soft. Seems to be inconsistent frying. MISS: Garlic Bread (3pc)- Very soggy! Mushy texture and not toasted at all. Also needed more garlic HIT: 1 lb wings- this was the best dish amongst everything. Very fresh and flavourful and salt level not overwhelming like it is on everything else. PASS: Fish and Chips (Reg)- 3 pcs of Haddock with cajun fries. Fried ok, but the flavour is exactly like frozen battered fish, little off-putting. Fries are quite spicy and salty if that's your thing. Too much seasoning for me, so I'll be passing on this next time. I like the idea of this place and of course, it's always fun to eat with your hands. Make a mess--They got you covered with houses, bibs and a washing station right in the restaurant. We got the snow crab legs and mussels. Mussels are consistently meaty here and the crab legs were sweet and meaty as well. I got rice, potato, corn, and okra as the sides. The corn was delicious and I enjoyed the Okra. I would advise not having those in the bags of seafood though. The sauces were so incredibly oily. The bag of mussels had almost no sauce. It was just filled with a red oil. It's like they have a vat of sauce, and scooped the top layer for us. I couldn't bear to eat it, so I ended up squeegie-ing each piece off.... I found it not only oily, but very salty. We barely got through our two pounds of seafood. Maybe a one time visit for us. I prefer a different but similar concept restaurant. I was also quoted a different price at the start of dinner and what appeared on my final bill. Honestly, I didn't find it worth trying to flag someone down to correct. I wouldn't have minded the higher price, if they had been honest up front. It just left me with a bad taste at the end of the meal. Captain's Boil is like the perfect sneaky link, it really knows how to hit the spot. In fact, it hits it so well that it'll put you to sleep afterwards. For real though, Captain's Boil is a great place to get your hands dirty and have some finger-licking good food. Captain's Boil specializes in Cajun seafood boil where you choose your type of protein drowned in your choice of sauce. My go-to order is the sailors (b) for $62 which comes with 1 lbs of shrimp and 1 lb of mussels, shrimp basket, seafood fried rice and 3 sides! Talk about a deal! With that much food it put me in a food coma. There are way more different combos they offer that include crab and lobster so give those a try if you're more bougie. My friends have typically insisted on traveling to the North York location after having one bad experience here where their sauce was watery, but we came back to give it another chance. It was my first time at this location. I haven't been to Captain's Boil in a while but my first notice was that they've spruced up their menu and now there's more selection and other dishes to choose from. They also now have different combo packages. I ordered a pound of mussels with mild captain's boil sauce. I usually order a side of fries and a corn but this time I forgot to. The mussels were tasty and the sauce was flavourful. I think Captain's Boil is a little inconsistent with their quality, because I've noticed across chains that sometimes their sauce tastes better and worse during different visits. A pound of seafood wasn't enough to fill me. After I was done the mussels I didn't really want to back track and order more, so I ended up stopping by elsewhere for quick take out snack food. I do enjoy the environment at this location more than the other location though. It's more spacious and the set up feels nicer. The parking area is a bit awkward and limited though... I had to park in the plaza next door but it was an easy and quick walk over. Service was good, nothing notable about it. Don't expect to get full off of a pound of seafood... ordering fries or other sides is necessary to leave with a full stomach! The sauce is good and quality was good. The parking lot was completely full (predictably) and it was difficult getting a spot to park. We went into the restaurant where we were directed to the table where we had our reservation. My mom isn't much of an eater so we ordered a sailors which was a pound of clams, a pound of shrimp (heads off), a side of potato and a side of corn. We also asked for a starer of brussel sprouts, cuz we like brussel sprouts. The first thing that came to our table was a potatoe. Someone came to our table and put a half a potato on the table, no utensils, no gloves, no bib, no bowl, no plate, nothing. We were like "How are are we supposed to eat this?" and they were like "Oh you were supposed to get utensils, and bowls, and bibs. Which they disappeared and someone brought a bowl some gloves, and bibs and napkins. Through the meal people who come and put something on the table. A piece of corn, a bag of clams, a bag of shrimp and lastly the brussel sprouts we asked to be a starter. There was also rice The potato was good, though I am not used to someone just dumping a bag with a potato on my table and leaving, the corn was also good but same thing. The clams were good, very buttery - also just brought in a bag and left on the table. Were we supposed to dump it on the table or eat it out of the bag? My wife had chosen this place because it reminded her of a place in Seattle where they come and dump like shrimp or clams on the table for you and you eat off the table. I didn't really like the shrimp. I am not used to being served shrimp with legs on, it kinda grossed me out. I mean it tasted really good once I shelled it and kinda got rid of the legs, but I don't think it's really my preference for eating style. It's a good thing my wife insisted on ordering the shrimp without heads - I don't think I would have even touched it if it had a head. The brussel sprouts were ok. Had a great experience for my first time at Captains Boil. The staff was friendly and greeted us when we came in. They promptly assisted me to my seat once I told them about my reservation. When we sat down, our server introduced herself, and asked if we had any questions on the menu and if we wanted to have anything to drink. She was able to answer all of our questions, including the specials, price differences etc (she was basically very knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant) The food came promptly after we ordered and wow, I was excited to get down and dirty with my hands. The tail meat was tasteless and mushy. We ended up just have one bite and left the rest untouched. Maybe the side seafood would have tasted better if it was served/prepared in one of the bags instead of just putting them on the hot plate and served with sauce on top? At least they would be hot instead of warm? I would not recommend the hot plate special! Serving those the way it was really not really represent the real seafood boil experience! Let me get this out of the way first! It's messy. It's flavourful. It's an experience. For the uninitiated Captain's Boil serves up seafood (or chicken) that's been spiced up and boiled. Once all the flavourful goodness is ready, it's served in a bag along with the sides. The bibs and endless napkins at the table were a definite must. The Crawfish had an ok flavour, but I've had better. The texture wasn't the best and the captain's spices (a mix of all 3 spices available) seemed to overwhelm everything. To boot, the whole thing was not as filling as I'd imagined. The service here was also definitely lacking. Considering the place was relatively empty, they were slow to respond and had to be waved down. All this being said, it seems like the menu has some real gems and I'd like to go back. I am an avid customer of this particular location and I generally don't have any complaints. Most of the time, you get to choose where to sit. Your bibs and gloves are already laid out on the table and they immediately bring out water to you. The service is always on point (at least for all the times I've been here) and they tend to check up on the table every once in a while. They also upgraded their menus with a few more new items/combos (they have daily specials now too). I always order the pound of shrimp and mussels in the captain's boil sauce with a side of steamed rice. If it's your first time, I definitely recommend trying anything with the special captain's boil sauce - it's literally just all the sauces mixed together but it's SO GOOD. I like getting the shrimp and mussels because they're both much meaty-er than let's say, crawfish (which I do not suggest to get at all because of the bare minimum meat). Speaking of, if you get the sizzling platter, which is also really good, it typically comes with crawfish, shrimp, mussels, clams, rice and your choice of fish or chicken HOWEVER, you can substitute the crawfish with more of the other seafood(s) included. This location of Captain's Boil has quickly become one of my family's go to spots for both dining in and grabbing take-out. Whenever we come here we're always greeted by the staff and service is always super quick. Our normal order is usually a pound of shrimp with the captain's boil sauce and their seafood rice, which is always very flavourful. I've also tried their clams and mussels which I would also recommend. I believe they have 4 sauces you can choose from, however I always stick to the classic captain's boil sauce. In addition, you can choose from mild, medium and spicy depending on your spice tolerance. The Captain's boil is one of those places you go once for the experience but wouldn't be inclined to go back again. You order your "catch" by the pound - lobster/crayfish (seasonal), crab legs, clams, oysters, shrimp, and chicken if you don't want seafood. You pick your sauce - we picked the Captain's boil sauce. The food comes in a clear plastic bag. The clams were good. Many fell out of their shells and drowned in the sauce it becomes too salty. We got it with mild spice, which actually tastes better than the one with no spice! The shrimp was average. It was hot! Be careful when you're eating them. Your mouth is more used to hot food than your fingers. We got one pound of clams (11.95) and one pound of shrimp (13.95) and portions were definitely not enough. I'm a small eater and even I was still hungry. We ordered a side of cajun seafood fried rice. The rice was kind of like the kind you get when you order sticky rice. Good, but so salty and so buttery. You have been warned. Minimal amount of seafood and not worth 11/12 dollars. I'm not one to be particularly passionate about the environment but I was kind of shocked at how much waste just two people made. Shrimp/clam shells, the plastic bags, paper towel (there is a whole paper towel roll for you to use), the plastic bibs, the plastic gloves, the plastic cups they give you for water (!), the can of Coke, and the brown paper table covering would all go to the garbage. Two people! Can you imagine four or even a bigger group of ten? It actually made me a little uncomfortable and trust me when I say I'm really not one to be very passionate about the environment as bad as that sounds. But this was bad. I wouldn't come back. I got the fish and chips and the fries taste just like costco fries! I loved them. They gave a big size portion for fish, I couldn't even finish. Our server was really nice, in fact, he was too nice, to the point where he would over talk. But that's okay because he did a pretty good job serving. It was my friend's birthday, and I tried to discreetly ask for a birthday surprise thing, just like you would at any restaurant, but they ended up coming to our table and asking the girl for an ID to see her birthdate. This is one of my parents' favourite places to go and one of the usual restaurants we bring visiting relatives. We normally try to go during lunch hours because it's less busy and the service and food has been consistently good during lunch (whereas sometimes it's hit or miss during busy dinner hours). We normally always order at least a pound each of shrimp, clams and mussels in the Captain's Boil sauce with mild heat. I personally find the Capitain's Boil sauce to be the best choice of the sauces and the mild heat is a good level of spicy (though my spice loving relatives preferred spicier). The shrimp is normally a safe bet to order. The lobster and crawfish, however, are usually on the smaller side and not really worth the price, in my opinion. The restaurant, itself, is very spacious and the tables are spaced relatively far apart. You get unlimited gloves and bibs which you definitely need because it gets very messy. There are also sinks stationed throughout the restaurant for you to wash up at. Parking can definitely be a hassle during peak hours because of the small parking lot, however, there are plazas nearby that you can park at within walking distance. read more

I had a sudden crave for Captain's Boil, and decided to give this location a try. I went with my family and friends on a busy Friday night. I think this is the biggest location in Toronto, and I believe it has a capacity of 100+ seats. They also have a big party room that can hold at least 30 people. I think it would be good for private company events/ birthday party. The good part is they do take reservation for weekends, and have a huge parking lot. Service for this location was great, but I think they might be a little under staff in a restaurant this big. I saw all the staffs running around like crazy, but everyone was attentive and helpful. One good thing is that they kept walking around and asking everyone if they are good with everything, while refilling their water. Eating this food got me really thirsty especially, with the garlic sauce it was quite salty. Prepare to drink lots of water. I acted like it was my first time eating at Captain's Boil, and I asked the server to explain everything to me. He took us through step by step from choosing our catch to choosing our flavour and even clearly explain the different level of heat. He also made very useful recommendations such as getting the French fries extra crispy, and dip it in the Captain's Boil sauce. He was right about that and it was very delicious (highly recommended). In the end, I ordered the Captains Boil Lobster, Garlic Sauce Shrimp and Lemon Pepper Mussel. The flavour was very good and consistent compared to the first time I had Captain's Boil. The only downside from this restaurant is they do not have mixed drinks. I really wanted some Mojito to enjoy the tasty seafood. The only reason I am not giving this a 5/5 is because their crawfish is not good. I was told they cook it every morning but it's not fresh. They are also really tiny for the price you pay. This is our favourite location to go to! We initially went to the one in North York but found this location and were thrilled as it's closer to home. We haven't tried the location near Pacific Mall yet though. The service was great, food was fast, and the food is delicious! If you're a seafood lover you'll definitely enjoy Captain's Boil. The sauces were difficult to differentiate but the deep fried shrimp tempura was amazing, and so were the Cajun fries. The chicken was very tender, and the shrimp and mussels were delicious. Although a bit pricey, good for special occasions. read more

the food is good but the customer is bad. I stopped dining in due to the bad service. today, I called in and was hung up on twice. I could over hear the lady taking someone's order. she could have told me one moment while she assists the costumer in store or even asked me to call back due to lack of staff or whatever. unfortunately she decided to hang up on me without saying a word again. won't be ordering from this location again. I really don't understand the hype about this food joint. We ordered the halibut and chips and the lobster roll. They missed our order twice, we had to wait about 45 minutes for our order. I guess they knew how bad their food was and hoped we would leave (they knew I was recording for a review, will post the video on Youtube shortly). It was definitely NOT worth the wait. This would probably be the worst seafood we ever had. Maybe it could be the expectation that seafood would be fresh at a fish market. (More on the fish market later). The halibut was dry as cardboard so you know this was frozen. It's not just about the dryness, it was like they found a piece of frozen fish at the bottom of the freezer and left in the fridge to defrost for months and cooked it after all the moisture evaluated. Hope this give you some sense of what it taste like. If not, imagine a McDonald fish sandwich as a gourmet meal. Now on with the lobster roll review. For those of you that had the opportunity to tried a Boston lobster roll would surely vomit with the Buster's lobster roll. To use an analogy, it's as if these guys collected left over bits from lobster meals for months to use for the lobster rolls.
