I ordered food from this restaurant by Uber and the sauce taste like some peed in the sauce and did not taste like the Captain Boil sauce. Ordered over 10 times from Captain Boil and l have never ever tasted the sauce like this. It also had taste like Indian food. It tasted horrible and l so disappointed. The corn was over cooked, the shrimp was over cooked to the point when you tried to peel, it just fell apart. This was the worst Captain Boil l ever tasted. They need to give our money back and l suggest not to order from Yorkmill location because the food is shit. Used to love this place, but the quality has really went downhill. I had their sizzling platter today (15.99) which came with mix seafood and a few pieces of deep fried fish + serving of rice. The fish were super thinly sliced, I felt like I tasted more of the batter than fish. The most disappointing part of the meal was their sauce. I used to love their caption boil sauce, unfortunately that's no longer the case. I felt like their sauce didn't have any flav ; it felt like I was having burnt salt. * For the sizzling plate you can chose between chicken or fish with seafood ** The chicken option was even more of a disappointment, the chicken was dry and flavourless. The great thing about this restaurant is the fresh, quality seafood. It was perfect. I chose my flavour to be garlic, which turned out to be jarred garlic in oil dumped on top of everything. That is not the method. Make a nice broth. Include raw, actual garlic and include seasoning. There was absolutely no salt or pepper on anything. Seafood is really good. I don't know why they ruin it and cheapen the dish by adding half a jar of minced garlic, which makes it altogether way too greasy and very difficult to eat. You have a good product. Please seasoned it and cook it properly with a broth -- add some wine and garlic and herbs in the broth. It'll be excellent. The condiment, or the flavour selected, should not ruin the entire dish, but enhance it ! read more

Thus is a different kind of experience in restaurants for me, but I enjoyed it. The seafood ones with 3 sauce choices, and I chose well with the Cajon option. This location is small so plan ahead. We had a 30-45 minute wait. I wish they had a bar more suitable for waiting. Also wish they served drinks other than beer. The service was great. The menu had options for everyone and they food was delish! I had crab legs and shrimp with corn, potatoes and sausage. Tried the cajun and the captain's boil seasoning. They were both outstanding. I felt the value, portions and quality were great. I would certainly come back and try more menu items. I recommend this place just pack your patience. It may be crowded but it's totally worth it. I've been here a couple of times as it is close to where I live. Over the years the prices have increased a lot and it's now more on the expensive side. But everything is still just as delicious!! One of my favourite dish is the Captains Boil Seafood Fried rice! It's a big portion so it's good for sharing and it's amazing! The sauces come in a variety including captains boil (a mix of Cajun, garlic and one other). My girlfriend and I got a pound of shrimp and pound of mussels. She was a big fan of the mussels... But I ordered from this place the following: -snow crab legs ($38): the meat was sweat and seems fresh. 4/5 -shrimp ($22) there were lots and most of them were an decent size! But it didn't seem to be fresh as the shell was hard to peel 3.5/5 -whole lobster ($60) the pricing was SUUPER steep for this was since I could go to my local grocery store and get a lobster for $20 but I was curious to know what $60 lobster was like. I love Captain's Boil! This was the second location I've been to (usually I go to the Sheppard location). We went here during the AYCE shrimp promotion that was going on and the wait time was about 45 minutes. The workers were very nice and the location was a lot more smaller than I expected. The shrimp was great as usual but for some reason the Captain's Boil sauce tasted a little watered down to me. Not sure if it was because of how busy it was due to the promotion but I will definitely try again during the normal time. Also the Cajun fries were amazing, I loved the little kick of spice it had. To be honest, I often times just past by this restaurant without paying much attention. I went to eat here for dinner with my parents. I ordered the seafood feast, with lobster, seafood fried rice, Cajun fries, some okra and broccoli, along with a bunch of potatoes, corn on the cob, and a group of mussels, shrimp and clams. My god, it was a lot that our stomaches could not even handle that much food. It would've filled my entire neighbourhood, lol. The service and the servers both excellent. $30 an order so 60 if there's 2 of you but then you need some rice too which is another 30. Give or take $100 including drinks. If you order additives (veggies) on top of crabs or shrimps, one order is enough for 3 people. The only thing is that they don't have tea or coffee. What can I say. I love this place! I've been quite a few to this and other locations. My favourites: Extra buttery Creole Seafood fried rice 1lb of shrimp with the garlic sauce I've also had the lobster, mussels, crab and clams. All yummy. Wednesday's visit I tried out the new lobster roll and bisque. A huge let down. A slice of cold not crispy bacon strip on the cold lobster served on a warmed hot dog roll. Always wanted to try this place out when they opened. Can't say anything bad about the place other than I don't think it's great great value for your money but it's not too far from it. I know it sounds weird but it's super fun to eat with your hands! The seafood, thank god, wasn't over cooked at all. All the sides were delish, from their okra to corn and fries. Had a really good first experience here for dinner. Covid protocols were followed with the host checking our vax status and ID. Our server was also really pleasant and helped us navigate the menu and pricing. The seafood boils were really good and totally what I was hoping for. My group had the Pirate's feast so we were able to try the shrimp, mussels, king crab, seafood fried rice, and Cajun fries. My one "complaint" was that the seafood fried rice tasted too buttery but it was still okay since I was starving. The pricing seemed a bit odd because some of the feasts were a really good value when compared to the market rates posted for individual items so make sure you compare accordingly! This is either a really good pricing tactic to upsell people to the feasts or maybe the menu prices are outdated relative to the market rates lol Definitely will come back! read more

Late review, but I came back here in February 2019 for dinner. They sat us down very quickly, we immediately order our usual: 2lbs of snow crab legs with medium heat and a shrimp and fries basket. Our server told us that they have changed the menu and each boil comes with two sides and they raised the price for the shrimp basket. I wasn't too happy about because I didn't care for the sides. I just wanted my seafood, and I basically used to see my shrimp basket as my side. Anyway we were caught off guard by this so our server gave us a few extra minutes to decide on our two sides. We ditched the $16 (Used to be $14) shrimp basket and we got rice and potatoes. My rice was a bit undercooked so I barely touched it, and the potatoes were OK. The snow crab legs were great as they've always been, but they had raised the price from $22/lb to I think $29/lb (perhaps since it was off season so they're switching to market prices?). It doesn't sound like much but it adds up when the bill arrives. The server was very patient and understanding so I'll give this establishment props for that. I used to come to this place all the time for their *somewhat* consistent prices and easy menu. I feel that each time I come back, they always raise the prices. But it's just too expensive for me now. (at least during the winter season with those market prices). I think this will be my last visit. read more

Back again and this time, I gotta say.. "Meh, I've had better"! To be honest, I'm starting to think that The Boil Bar might be superior despite the fact that The Captain's Boil has more franchises. I mean, seafood is always delicious but here were my main issues today: 1) The clams weren't hot enough 2) Both the Captain's Boil and Garlic sauce were way too salty 3) The market price of lobster was insanely expensive? Is it really $40?! And the meat also wasn't the freshest 4) The shrimp wasn't fresh either, the meat was mushy and didn't have that nice bounce Sooo.. Yea. That was one pricey lunch. For anyone that remotely enjoys seafood or cares about the environment, this place should be avoided at all costs. Everything that was on our table was either styrofoam or plastic - which could be sort of/borderline acceptable if they actually recycled the materials correctly. But they don't. The food was served in plastic bags despite the menu showing it on plates and it was dumped unceremoniously in front of us in a gooey sauce that didn't add any flavour to it. The mussels were enormous (did you ever have to chew a mussel like you chew steak? yeah, me neither, except there), which made me doubt whether or not they were genetically modified. The shrimp were not good either. To go back to the environmental impact thing - after we had left a big mess on the table due to the necessity of eating everything with our hands and tearing the shrimp apart ourselves, the waitress used the paper tablecloth to roll everything together (food, plastic, styrofoam, everything) and throw it in the trash. No recycling bin, no compost, nothing. I was in utter disbelief. The fact that businesses today can still get away with stuff like this is beyond me. While we're all fighting over plastic straws, this stuff happens right under our nose. I hope this review can get people to encourage sustainable businesses that actually care about the quality of their meals and the environmental impact they have. And hopefully one day regulations will be put in place to prevent restaurants to engage in such detrimental practices. Shameful. read more

Mediocre food. Came for a quick lunch with a friend in between classes. We both ordered the fish teriyaki (with seafood platter) lunch special for $10.95. Came with white rice topped with a few specks of corn and scallions, fish coated with too many greasy batter, a few large whole shrimps, 4 mini clams, and 2 giant ass mussels (yum). I couldn't have any of the sauces since all contained butter and I'm pretty sensitive to dairy products, but I did have the hot sauce (spicy level 3) and holy crap it was really spicy!! Price was pretty good for seafood, but food presentation and taste was pretty disappointing. The photos on their website looked way better and the actual platter today did not come with crayfish. The clams were also too small (where is the meat??) and the fish was 90% batter. Next time might try ordering a bag of seafood and try some of their sides (lotus root, okra, etc.) read more

Finally came here with my best friend to see what the hype is all about. It was better than I expected but not really my cup of tea. We got a pound of shrimp, a pound of mussels, a pound of crab legs, fried shrimp, an order of sausage, and two orders of rice (bestie's an over-orderer). We got the Captain's Boil signature sauce in mild for everything. When I initially looked at the sauce flavours I didn't find them very interesting, but it turns out that the mix of three tastes kind of like coconut curry, which was nice. The mild still packs quite a punch! The sauce is also quite greasy, which was surprising. I'd have preferred less oil, but it does go nicely with rice. The mussels were huge and plump but overcooked. The crab legs were frozen, which was expected, but the quality was lower than what I was expecting. The best were the shrimp - dense and a decent size, with meaty bodies and delicious heads. I also really enjoyed the sausages- I'd throw them in with my seafood next time. The fried shrimp was a waste of calories and money. Service was great. I thought the bibs were really cute! The lack of utensils and napkins kind of threw me, especially since the gloves they give you don't really protect you at all - but I loved that there was a nice, large sink right in the middle of the restaurant for you to wash up in. We came straight after work and we still had to wait! Reservations are definitely recommended. The bibs, plastic gloves and menus were already placed on the table. It took quite some time for our server to come take our orders even though it wasn't busy at all. We ended up ordering a pound of mussels, clams and crawfish (seasonal price of 16.95), with the captain boil's sauce mild, as well as a side of Cajun fries. I wish I read the reviews here earlier on, but DO NOT order crawfish! There's very little meat inside and it's like most of the time you're sucking on the shells. Definitely do not recommend! My favourite would have to be the mussels and clams, the sauce really soaked up on them so they're really flavourful. Also mild is actually a bit spicy and has a kick to it. I can't imagine how spicy medium and hot would be (I can't eat spicy food that well). Although I found the sauce to be flavourful, but I also thought it was a bit too saucy and oily. The oil seeped through my gloves. And towards the end of our meal, I was sick of the sauce and didn't want to do anything with it anymore. Maybe because of the sauce and the spice itself, my stomach felt really uncomfortable later that night. However, my cousin was fine, it was just me that was having issues. It's just not pretty to watch all that mess. I felted like attending a clumsy elementary school dinner. They didn't give us water with lemon or wipes to remove the smell of our hands (I removed a glove because I was biting the plastic). The seafood had good quality. The lobster was complete as well, I had the chance to eat some of the green stuff in the head that some other places remove. The oysters were a lil too chubby for my taste (I like them flat). The Cajun fries were crispy in the out and creamy in the insides. My friend from Barcelona found them too spicy, she couldn't stop eating them tho. The mechanic is simple: Pick the seafood, pick the sauce, and then, the degree of heat you want on your meal. We tried the Cajun sauce-non spicy, and the Captain's Boil (the mixture of all the sauces) with mild spice. I liked the intense flavors of both options. The Captain's one had a lot of chopped garlic, while the Cajun was challenging to decipher what the main ingredients were. The concept of this place is a novelty for Toronto so I was excited to try it out. We went as a party of two and ordered a pound of mussels (lemon pepper, medium) and clams (Cajun, medium) with Cajun fries on the side, a half dozen raw oysters, and beers. Service was serviceable and there was an adequate amount of paper towels (meaning an entire roll). The atmosphere was busy and the decor was fine. On to the food...unfortunately. To put it bluntly, the mussels tasted like those white rubber erasers dropped into a vat of spicy chicken seasoning and boiled for an hour. The seasonings and grease overwhelmed any hint of shellfish flavor that might have remained after cooking. The best part of our meal was the oysters (fresh with decent condiments) and the beers (cold) because neither of which was boiled, to our relief. Maybe it's growing pains or the fear of sending out a bad clam but I would give this place another chance when crawfish are in season.
