I had heard some amazing things about Thai Basil. There are so many amazing options here that it makes it hard to decide where to go, but I'm so glad we came here. My friend and I came around noon on a Sunday and it wasn't crazy busy, but things did pick up 20 minutes after we ordered so it looked like we beat the lunch rush! We both got the mango sticky rice, and I got the pepper garlic prawns. Not only did the food come out super fast, but it tasted amazing! Really flavorful and with large portions. Worth the money for sure. It's a smaller dining area inside but plenty of seating. There is also additional seating outside as well. It can get busy during the lunch rush, but that's to be expected.

Ambiance is basically a dinning hall experience, not much a restaurant. Food was prepared quickly, and it was self served to pick up from the counter. Panang curry was not creamy and lacked the signature coconut flavor.

you get a discount for paying with cash at the register but you can also order it on the kiosk and pay with card. there's seating inside and the food was yum! the workers are nice and provide everything you need. it was $38 for two people's meals + drinks which was affordable for berkeley in my opinion. if im in the area ill be back!

Food is good here. Service was optional counter or kiosk. Ambience was kitchen and folks conversation. Want something different? Try them.

I have been looking for the best pad see ew and it is here! Rice noodles are cooked perfectly with generous amount of chicken, and sweet egg. The place is no fuss and filled with college students. In Berkeley Asian ghetto with nostalgic college vibes.

I will not exaggerate here at all; The absolute BEST Thai food I've ever had and it's not close. The Pad-See-Yu with no bean sprouts is genuinely unforgettable. Such a sweet lady working at the front, amazing quick service, incredible food. Trust me get the Pad-See-Yu it is otherworldly, I've had other dishes and they are just as great.

I tried out Thai Basil Cuisine on a whim since i was craving Thai food. The restaurant was hidden away a bit in a mini Plaza off the main street. I ordered the Pad Kee Mao with chicken. I found that the chicken was kinda dry, and found that the flavor of the noodles was a bit lacking, and left a bit of a burnt aftertaste as well. Overall, I was a bit dissapointed in the Pad Kee Mao.

My go-to while I was in college for both value and quality! The staff is very straightforward but that's exactly what thrives in busy areas like south Berkeley. Cash payment is preferred but you can pay with card at the kiosks. Food comes out quick and is perfect for a late night dinner or in between class lunch with friends. Tons of drink options in this plaza as well so Thai Basil pairs great with your favorite boba shop!

Not the greatest pad see ew ever, but was still pretty good. Noodles were cooked well and were just the right amount of sweet. Unfortunately the chicken was not very flavorful, and was pretty rubbery too. Broccoli was also disappointing, and felt under cooked and was hard to bite into. Chicken and broccoli brought it down, especially given the price point.

Best of Berkeley for many years

Every time I'm in town, I always stop by here and get my Thai fix. I recently vacationed in Thailand and had some Rad Na in Bangkok. So I had been searching for an authentic Rad Na ever since and finally found it at Thai Basil. The Rad Na here is SO GOOD! very flavorful gravy with just the right amount of burnt taste on the rice noodles. Ahhh.. I'm hungry just thinking about it.

I got the pad see ew, and it was good, though chicken was a bit overcooked. My low rating is because they only offer plastic containers, even if you eat in. I explicitly asked for no plastic because we planned to eat in, and the lady said yes and then gave us plastic containers in plastic bags with plastic forks and disposable chopsticks. Furthermore, they won't let you dispose of the containers in the restaurant (see image) and have a sign, virtue signaling, that they would like to save the environment and that customers should not order containers if eating in. It's a lie! Disappointing, not at all environmentally conscious and generating tons of waste. Food was decent but not worth wasting so much plastic when there are plenty of other good/better thai food options in Berkeley that let you use plates.

Basil chili chicken with fried egg

Thai Basil in Berkeley offers a convenient option for a quick Thai food fix. I tried their Basil Chili Chicken with fried egg, which was a decent portion size. The chicken itself was cooked well, but the overall flavor lacked the punch I was hoping for. The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty basic, with simple décor and generic Asian-style furniture. It's clean and comfortable enough for a casual meal, but the inside space may feel very crowded when you have a few occupied tables. There is open seating outside the restaurant, which is shared by all the other restaurants in that section, so it's available on a first come, first served basis. The service was fast but the staff could have been friendlier. When my friends and I asked for to-go boxes and utensils/napkins, we got an angry look from the staff. Please also note that the restaurant doesn't have a bathroom for its customers, so you'll have to find some place else if you really need to go. Overall, Thai Basil is an average option. The food is decent, but a little pricey for what you get. If you're in the area and looking for a quick bite, it's not a bad choice, but there are probably better Thai restaurants in Berkeley worth exploring.

Arrived with 10 min left for their HH discount so got their two mojito and sunrise mocktails and 3 appetizers, satay chicken, curry puff, and potstickers. Then onto their dinner menu of Moo Dang dry noodles and ginger sole before finishing off with one of their fun holiday drinks for dessert, the peppermint eggnog for just $8.50. Even the ones with alcohol were only $10-$11. For the price of a few drinks at a popup bar, we got drinks, dinner, and leftovers for lunch. Must be the Econ major in me.

The duck over rice was probably a 2/5 for me, and I definitely would not order it again. At first, I thought it was decent because my first bite was mostly sauce and rice, but once I tried the duck, it fell short. The skin was more slimy than flavorful, and the meat itself had a noticeable funk to it that made it seem lower quality. Luckily, the pumpkin curry saved the meal. I really enjoyed the flavor, and it was easily the better dish (still would rate it a 3/5 though). If you're like me, I'd skip the lunch special and just order the curry as a regular plate since I did not care much for the side salad or vegetarian spring roll. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come back since there are so many Thai restaurants to try in Berkeley, but Little Plearn is definitely a convenient option near campus, especially for students looking for a quick lunch.

The corn cakes were fried just right so they were golden on the outside but soft on the inside and the slaw and sweet sauce elevated it. I would get both appetizers again. For entrees we had: Mama Pad Kee Moa (3.5/5) - instant noodles with fresh veggies and very thin beef. Flavor was good, but the beef missed the mark because it was lacking. Massaman Gai Curry (5/5) - the curry was so flavorful in this dish and the soft potato complimented it very well. Definitely the winner of the night. Chicken Khao Pad (Fried Rice) (3/5) - rice was a little too dry and the thinly cut chicken again did not pop out in the dish. Overall, very fresh and authentic Thai dishes. The green curry noodles came with vermicelli, and I wanted to try it since it's what they recommend, but it just was not the right texture for the curry I felt. We also sat at the front by the door, and it was rather cold in that seat.

I've always wanted to dine at Sistory for brunch, but coming in the evening, it wasn't too busy. There was a steady flow of customers and take-out orders. The restaurant is warm, cozy, and quaint. There are several tables for pairs or parties of four, plus some artwork displayed. There was only one server who was juggling customers, but we were well taken care of. My best friend and I shared Roti Dip, Pad Thai with Chicken, and Yellow Curry with Tofu. The roti was so flaky and warm! The Pad Thai tasted good and was typical of the ones I've had. The curry was robust and flavorful! Being mild, it was a bit spicier than we had anticipated. So if you have a low spice tolerance, keep that in mind! We also got Thai Tea, which was refreshing!
