This is one of my husbands favorite places for chicken fried steak. I'm not much for fried food, so I didn't order anything. But then my husband ordered his steak, fed me a bite and I remember being startled because it was fresh - not frozen. You could TASTE that it was not frozen. My family has been going her for seems like over 20 years. Their food has been good with only a few times I was not pleased, but considering we have been there 100's of times, it is not a big deal. I think most of their meny is great, and have enjoyed just about everything on it, although their steaks could use a little more seasoning. If you are prefer a "pure" steak- just a great cut of beef cooked with little to no seasoning, then this steak is for you. We have been going to this place for years. It is my fiance's favorite restaurant and the place he requests for his birthday dinner every year. This native Texan has found a place to call home while traveling! I now live in Colorado, but travel to Phoenix for work. I stomped on my brakes and made some tires squeal as I stopped to turn into this place when I was perusing for places to eat. I'm certainly glad I did. There are certain health related lines the people of Colorado do not like to cross, and every once in a while I just really want everything deep fried. I started off my evening with some Deep Eddy grapefruit vodka on the rocks. Feeling like home already. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was very nice and attentive. She gave me advice on where to stay, what to do, ect. I ordered fried okra as an appetizer because I miss all things okra. It was hand battered and not the prefrozen BS you sometimes get at lower tier BBQ joints. It came with this mustard based sauce which was delicious. I of course sprinkled some Texas Pete's pepper sauce on top which is how God intended fried okra to be consumed. I then moved on to the fried catfish. I got the cole slaw and salad as a side. I was a little worried because the catfish isn't corn meal battered like I'm so used to, but it was crisp, delicious, and hit the spot. I squeezed lemon on top and sprinkled on some zatarains seasoning blend, and gave it a good dunk in the tartar sauce. I ordered the lemonade drink special which featured titos vodka, prickly pear syrup, lemonade, and bubble water. It was very refreshing and complimented my dinner. This will be my watering hole every time I come into Phoenix. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Not my favorite anything. Unfortunately this being our 1st time to this place we were kind of ignored. You could visually identify all the regulars by who the servers were talking to and checking on. Our drinks were not checked the entire time even when our food was served. The bathrooms are so small you have to keep the door open to bend down and grab your pants to pull them up. We wandered in on a Wednesday night, not knowing quite what to expect - but we are glad we did. Lots of quirky character inside, with just about every square inch of wall and ceiling covered with license plates, ball caps, and plenty of Texas tavern memorabilia. Fair selection of bottled beers, though none on tap. They tend to sell out of the prime rib, but I hope to give that a try next go around. Steak and mashed potatoes were both decent, but my oh my - the breaded pork chop was out of this world tender and juicy! This place is great in the summer because it's completely blacked out, there are no windows at all. Let me start this review by saying that I am a huge fan of TEXAZ Grill. I have been enjoying their CFS since they were Lone Star (over 20 years). My wife and I stopped in this past Saturday (03/22/2014) for an early lunch. We were immediately "greeted and seated". Our server came by for our drink order and I also ordered a cup of the "Sopa de Fidello" (my main reason for this visit). The soup came and was very, very good. I normally get a cup of their wonderful chili, but I really wanted to try this soup after reading the description on line. I wasn't disappointed in the least. Chunks of ham, vegetables, and the video noodles; all in a spicy, savory broth. I would love a big bowl of this soup and some wonderful chewy, crusty bread on a cold winters night (yes, I know I'm in Phoenix, but I can dream...). Both my wife and I had a salad w/ the house dressing and the lunch sized Chicken Fried Steak. I love the house dressing at TEXAZ. My wife (a former ranch dressing girl) now orders the house dressing, it's so good. The salad is evenly coated w/ dressing, and there is never a glob of it on the plate when you're done. What can I say about the CFS, that hasn't been said many times before...it was perfect as usual. The CFS came w/ mashed potatoes, corn, and a biscuit. The steaks were hanging over the sides of the plate. Fresh, hot and perfectly seasoned. I have tried this dish at other restaurants, only to be disappointed w/ the food. I didn't get the name of our server, but she was great. She came and checked on us regularly and was pleasant and quick w/ the tea refills. Yet another great meal at one of my favorite restaurants... I think there are many restaurants here in the valley that could learn something from TEXAZ and their longevity here in a place known for "here today and gone tomorrow". Quality and consistency. My husband and I went here last night for dinner. So amazing! The biscuits and dinner rolls were very delicious too. My husband got the chicken fried steak and I got chicken fried chicken. We both liked mine more, but his was good. The mashed potatoes and gravy are delicious and smothered in gravy...yum! We left room for pecan pie which was very good too. I was so excited to try this chicken fried steak - Not impressed at all - it was so soggy (like it had been pre-made and sitting out) it was beyond bland and I had to add so much salt/pepper to the gravy for any flavor.....I also sensed an "off flavor", kind of sweet, that didn't belong with CFS - only to get home to raging food poisoning within the hour.......Also, the catfish was also bland and flavorless. I work at the sundevil auto right down the street. Me and my techs eat here 2 to 3 times a week !!!! The service is absolutely amazing and the food is to die for !!!
