For the longest time I thought this was a bar, but it's a restaurant! I love the hole in the wall, small town Texas feel. It seems as though they only hire pre pubescent high school boys. Love that they're giving them jobs! Although they're not the most experienced servers they do try their best! I went with my in-laws and got the Friday fish special. When I asked for asked for another basket the waiter was surprised A. I knew about the deal and B. That I could eat more than 3 catfish filets. The chili burger looked a little unappealing since it's open face and then a mountain of chili (WITH BEANS) on top. The Texan chili with beans is a debate for another day. I was excited to try the chocolate pie. Nasty! It's like they used chocolate jello instead of real chocolate and milk. It tasted and had the consistency of a chocolate booger. I've lived in Katy for 25+ years and yet I've never been to Texas Tradition before this visit. It is so good! I feel like I've wasted a quarter of my life missing out on this food! The portions are large and the service is as friendly as your grandma's house. I got the friend catfish and it was scrumptious! One of the best anywhere. Everyone else in my party loved their food too. I'm going to try the fish tacos next time. My buddy got them and said they were amazing! It's definitely not a fancy restaurant but if you want some down home cooking it seemed good. The service was very good. Parking was easy. Seems clean. I had the chicken plate which was good enough but the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes n gravy were amazing. My Kid had the BLT and fries which she said was good not the best! No complaints really and would try again. The only thing that was a little strange was the staff was wearing shirts that had the flag with the blue lives matter stripe . I'm all for supporting our police community but it felt like a response to black lives matter so im not sure about the intentions and thought it was strange as a uniform. The service is horrible. Took a while to be greeted by anyone . Got a table. Ordered queso but said we were ready to order lunch also but waitress said NO! let me put in the order of queso first. Ordered the brisket burger and asked if that comes with fries and waitress gave me a dirty look ands said it's a pound of meat??!?!? So no fries. Way to fat shame someone. Didn't matter if I was taking 1/2 to go. No need to be rude or give me a dirty look. Food was great but won't go back because of the service. I called the restaurant to see if I could call ahead and was told no. When my party arrived we learned that they do take reservations. When I asked if we could call ahead, that would have been a great time to let me know that reservations are accepted... When I arrived, we went to the hostess stand to get on the list. We told the young woman that we had a party of nine. She looked at us and just said " we don't have room for 9". She took our name and said she would try to figure something out. Whatever that means.... I returned to the hostess stand because I was confused and wasn't sure if they were going to be able to accommodate us. I asked another young lady if she could clarify if they could seat 9 people. She very condescendingly told me that when they have space they would call my name and let me know. No timeframe, no courtesy, no tact or customer service. We won't be returning. Staff is rude and incompetent. read more

This spot is very close to my home which always keeps it in the dinner discussion when choosing take-out. The vast majority of the time their burgers are great, and some of their other dishes are also tasty. I was however highly disappointed by their most recent Valentine's Day special. The steak was small, poorly cooked, and lacked any sort of seasoning or much taste at all. The entire meal seemed like more of an afterthought than an actual special occasion. I guess I blame myself. I should have stuck with what they are known for. Burgers and chicken fried steak, but grilled catfish sounded good. I ordered it blackened and it must have been overlooked because it came out warm at best and no blackening. The baked potato soup tasted like someone added bacon, cheese and chives to the chicken fried steak gravy. The mac and cheese was fine, not great but not bad. The establishment was pretty clean dimly lit and rustic looking. We were greeted by Jonathan and were seated quickly. We ordered grilled chicken platter and the guacamole burger with the onion rings side. The chicken platter was served hot although chicken was dry to it being thinly sliced and the sweet potato fries were extremely greasy. The guacamole burger was cooked to my taste and the side of onion rings were cooked perfectly and really really good. The bun is good but is really too much bread so I opted to take a center bite as is and then eat the rest bunless style. The service was very spotty and we were asked to move to a different table while we were eating because an "old man music group" needed to set up 2 hours before they perform and they needed our table area. It's not fancy from the outside but if you want great, home cooked food, this is the place to eat. Don't eat here if you're a salad eater, this is a meat and potatoes kind of place. The chicken fried steak with fried okra and Mac and cheese is as good as it gets. Finish with grandma's peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream. You won't be disappointed. Texas Tradition is a great restaurant for a burger or to gather with a group after a team event. We like coming here as a family because it's local to Katy and the service is pretty good. I think they need to improve on the menu a little to get more stars out of me. Their food is ok just not great. Food was brought hot out of the kitchen freshly made. I had the chicken fried steak and found it less than average for the hype I was told about the place. Very thin, I mean like 1/4 " thin piece of steak with heavy breading, gravy was a standard country gravy that was creamy and hot. Macaroni was just ok. Looked to me that it was over boiled hit it with a splash of milk to get it creamy and put a piece of American cheese on it to half melt. My wife had a mushroom burger and we found it to be excellent quality of ground beef, not frozen, soft fresh bun. Onion rings were cut thick and had way to much breading on them for my taste. So, I honestly have no clue what people are complaining about. My husband and I had an amazing experience. Just about every table was full and we still received great service. I had a particular dietary request and it was met without question. Our waitress even made suggestions how they could better accommodate this carnivore. I was introduced to this restaurant over 3 years ago and I have been driving from DFW to this restaurant for their Chicken Fried Steak (which is large enough for at least 2-3 meals for me)as it is AWESOME. HOWEVER, this past time was my LAST time to go! I always order the large CFS with some extra gravy. This time, the waitress said "that will be $1.25 for the extra gravy". REALLY?!?!? That is CRAZY and I almost walked out! NO IT IS NOT OKAY!!!!! The CFS should come out with the steak covered NOT a small dollop in the center of the steak with some splashed on the potatoes. If you are going to be stingy with your gravy or want to upcharge for it, you have LOST my business!!! Not that you care since I am not a weekly visitor but UPCHARGING for milk and flour is NOT A TEXAS TRADTION!!! It is Ridiculous. If you are hurting that much for money due to Covid-19, freaking increase the price of everything on your menu .25 cents and make the money that way. They were not cooked well too raw for us, The times we have been there the burgers were cooked good and were served hot and service was excellent. I went in to order marinara to go, and the staff member at the counter took my order while vaping behind the register, completely ignoring hygiene. It was really disappointing to see him vaping right in front of me, trying to hide it, but it was obvious. I ordered my burger medium, but it came out overcooked. I come to Texas Tradition every time I'm in town from up north as its staff is always welcoming, especially Joan. I don't know if she is the manager or what but she is always full of warmth toward me and my family. The food here is good. It is hit and miss though. I've had good meals there. I've had bad meals and the prices aren't cheap but you do get a lot. But a lot of a bad thing is in a good thing. The atmosphere is warm but it always seems like there's a staff turnover here. I order the tender basket,chicken sandwich and the turtle brownie Sunday for pick up. Kyle told me 15-20 minutes I was there to pick up my food on time. The chicken sandwich is hard to chew The chicken tenders were soggy, under cooked, no flavor and the turtle brownie was hard and cold. Kyle which is the manager told me to microwave my brownie, I think not. Then he said that is what you get when you order food online it is going to soggy and cold.
