I visited this place years back when it opened and didn't care for it at all. But I've recently been there twice because I find it much improved. They have the legit Philly rolls and do a nice cheese steak. My review would be better if (1) they cut the bell peppers into slices and actually grilled them -- they were barely grilled, essentially raw, and (2) they would take the time to cut the sandwich -- I ordered a small -- in half. Trying to cut a cheese steak with a flimsy plastic knife does not go well. The salsa and house mustard are outstanding with or without chips. read more

I had a pleasant experience here. I chose the pizza steak and it was yummy. I didn't care much about the chips that came with it. The fried pickles were solid, although I thought the portion size to be a bit small. Now...I tried a bite of my friend's bacon cheddar burger and wished I had ordered that for myself! I would have never thought to order a burger here, but if I'm in the area I would definitely come back and get one because it was the tastiest of all. The guys at the counter were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. I spent a bit more than expected, but on the whole I was happy and the free ice cream for dessert was a nice finishing touch. Perk up the decor and overall ambiance a bit and make some slight refinements and you could get to the 5-star level. It was what I expected and hoped for. read more

Best Philly We have ever had, not under served, meat was fresh, jalepenos were nice and spicy.

I'm not naturally drawn to cheese (the foodstuff, anyone who's heard me joke knows that the other kind of cheesy clearly has a warm place in my heart). Nonetheless, I'm a fan of not being hungry anymore, and when the dessert lover suggested that we hit this place for a quick lunch today, I happily obliged. They hang their proverbial hat here on the localized version of the cheese steak, and to that end the following of the Texadelphia folks is considerable: they're another Austin local bidness success story. But for me, what did it today wasn't a cheese steak at all, but instead a gi-normous hamburger that dared me to eat it. And hey, on a dare, you gotta try. Most sandwiches come with tortilla chips, which aren't particularly the best I've ever had, but will do in a pinch. And at least they have the good sense to serve those with the meal and circumvent the problem with, say, Mexican food, where you're full before your meal ever hits the table (if you're like me and apparently have little to no self-control). Either way, I don't frequent Texadelphia but I'll definitely be back, 'cause I went in with the need to feed and they set me straight. And that's a chomp worth repeating. read more

Now remember, I am from Philadelphia...when I first moved to Texas I would not eat pizza for 3 years let alone a pseudo philly cheesesteak. I was excited to try the cheesesteak for the first time in a decade and was extremely disappointed. The meat was dry, and pretty flavorless. There was a little slice of cheese on the bottom of the sandwich. It's called a cheesesteak for a reason... there's supposed to be cheese! The waffle fries were over cooked. Its a philly. Like me, if you didn't grow-up with this staple of Philadelphia you have no prejudice, bias, or preconceived notion of what it should be, look like, taste, smell, any of it. So my opinion is clear of any allegiance. This is an odd sandwich, probably because a "philly" is different. I was out for lunch and picked Texadelphia to check out this funny sounding named fast casual restaurant. Its set up like one would expect, counter, serve yourself fountain drinks, napkins and plastic cutlery. There is a plastic divider at the counter between you and the check-out person. The menu is pre-pinted next to the register exactly like the website. It felt all very corporate, not that its bad but missing the element of warmth. I tried their signature sandwich top and foremost on their menu, The Founder regular size and a fountain drink. Their are jalepenos beware. Its a bit chewy, and meat is a little dry. Similiar to boiled or steamed meat. There was no taste to the meat, only the sauce. The sauce appeared grey in color and was a thin consistency, similar to a syrup. It comes with a little ramakin of pale green sauce, not sure of what. The bread is very very oily. Its soft and has a little bounce to it. The way they pack your sandwich makes NO sense. Think hot dog bun with everything layed across the crease not in it. I had to re-arrange my sandwich to pick it up. I saw my buddy using a fork to eat his and my other friend was trying to eat as-is and having it fall all over the foil that it comes wrapped in. I kept wanting each bite to be the one hiding the sauce, the flavor, the tasty meat. It never came. I was dissapointed when I ran out of the pale green specked mystery sauce, the chews were hard without it. I felt a mouth feel of meat shavings, sour cream sauce, and boiled onions. I ate it because I was hungry and didn't feel like waisting $12 sandwich and drink. Thank god for the waffle fries or I'd been stuck hungry. An 8" x 4" sized sandwich didn't fill me up or sarisfy me. The fries saved the show as far as hunger. I subbed out chips for waffle fries, suggest doing. I won't be back, I suggest if phillies are your thing to judge for yourself. read more

I love Texadelphia! It is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. Their food is always so delicious and their service is friendly. I get their turkey sandwich on wheat which is my favorite thing on the menu, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The queso is the best in town and their chips are good too. First let me say that I think Delaware Subs has the best cheese steak in Texas. That being said Texadelphia is still awesome all the sandwiches are tasty and they have 1.50 Lonestar and deals on buckets of beer. The decor is very comfortable for me and I always have a good experience when I go to this location. I especially love the mustard here. Another thing is that they offer a great deal if your a four square member. I've actually been able to get a Sandwich, Chips and bucket of Lonestar for about 10 dollars before with the Four Square discount. Oh and a big plus is that lots of times they play MMA or Kickboxing fights when I'm here, not being a huge sports nut this is very important for me and keeps me entertained. read more

Nice, clean facility in a shopping strip on the north side of Brodie near West Gate. Wi-Fi, fast service & lots of different sauces to keep things interesting. Their menu states that the sauces, queso and guacamole are made fresh daily. The floor plan reminded us of Quiznos, but this caf has a kitchen! Located in the open behind the Carry Out counter is the kitchen crew building sandwiches and entrees for hungry customers. I ordered the signature "Founder's Favorite" in the large size, and the young lady taking our order offered to put it on two plates for us. Very thoughtful! You order and pay as you enter, then can take a seat. We were given our drink cups and a order number card to place on our table and await our meal. In a few minutes our order arrived, and it looked delicious. It is a local twist on the Philly sandwich, made with shaved Angus beef, grilled onions, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms and jalapenos, topped with their homemade mustard sauce. We also got a side of curly fries, and everything was delightful, although the bread is somewhere between too soft to hold the sandwich in your hands very easily, and too tough to cut with a plastic fork. We c I ould have customized the sandwich with chicken, or spicy ranch sauce, and could substitute cherry peppers for the jalapenos, but we tried the standard sandwich first. Now, we can go back and try some variations! I was really enjoying my meal, when the fellow sitting behind Lea was served a huge bacon cheddar burger that must have been a full half pound of Angus on a 5" bun! It's not that I want to call anyone names, but seriously folks? You have got to be out of your mind giving this any stars for the chow. The food is not particularly inedible (I would never waste food!), but it is completely flavorless. One thing that comes to mind when I see/hear cheesesteak, is well, nothing - just a slow stream of drool mostly. For a sandwich regularly sauteed up with onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese, I expect it to BURST with flavor even before I taste the meat. I have eaten here many times over the years (hate to finally set it in proverbial stone because I did oh-so-try to love you Texadelphia), and I have to give it a consistent hellnaw. Texadelphia is very much a guilty pleasure. I can feel a little less guilty (maybe? a little?) because I have recently discovered that their chicken cheesesteaks are very good too. I like how you can customize your cheesesteak with a sauce (anything from marinara to mustard blend to spicy ranch to more) and add toppings too. My favorite combos? Chicken cheesesteak with spicy ranch and cherry peppers OR regular steak cheesesteak with mustard sauce and cherry peppers. I do love me some cherry peppers. I highly recommend a fork to go with your cheesesteak especially if you get a topping, like cherry peppers -- because they are usually just sort of placed on top of the sandwich and if you don't mash 'em down, they will just fall off. I love their mustard sauce. It's like crack. And I don't think it is healthy (cos for a while I was like "it's mustard! how can it be bad for me?!" as I drench my sandwich...and my chips... But then I realized that mustard shouldn't be greasy. Hmmmmmmmmm...) And speaking of chips... The sandwiches come with tostada chips. They are not always the best -- sometimes stale -- but Texadelphia's salsa is AWESOME. Fresh made and chunky and fantastic. I love their salsa so much that I merely use the (stale) chips as a delivery device. PS -- i've never been to philly and had a phily cheesesteak so is this authentic? no idea. but if you want a semi greasy meaty sandwich, this sure fits the bill. read more

Texadelphia's star seems to have fallen a bit since the 90s. The one in Plano didn't even serve liquor anymore the last time I went. But I still like these guys. The Chicken Cheesesteak is to die for. I get it with lettuce and tomato and cherry peppers then smother it with that mustard blend and make a big ol' mess. I have to clean up the table after I'm done and my recent visit was no exception. Sandwiches are always hot and steamy. The counter service is friendly and on top of their game. And YAY! I found a sandwich my Chinese wife loves! Couldn't believe she enjoyed a small Beef cheesesteak sub after railing against cheese for months now. She had the same toppings i did save for the mustard. Terrible customer service. We have been going here for idk 5 plus years and this place has been awesome and the food was amazing. But having a cashier on FaceTime and not acknowledging me in front of him is so disrespectful and then after waiting 20plus minutes for my food. One of the workers ask for my name and tells me the food has been sitting here ready to go. Why did no one call my name whenever the food was ready to go? MMMMMMMMM. The sandwiches here are so So SO good. Just thinking about it is making me salivate. The best thing though: THE FRIES. I could make a whole meal out of those fries. The sandwiches are so big too! I always take home the other half for lunch the next day. Still good the next day too! And this location has free Wi-Fi. This is a perfect lunch stop for those of us on the southwest side. If you don't see me in here at least once every two weeks, I'm probably not in Austin or I might be dead. I generally switch between a cheese-steak (I'm hungover) and the lesser-known but as-delicious turkey sandwich (I'm less hung-over). I tend to smother both with the highly-addictive mustard blend (which may or may not be blended with crack). It's pretty small and can get a little crowded during lunch, so don't wait until 12:30 to get here unless you don't mind sitting in a children's playground for sale outside of Academy...you creeper. read more

I have to base this review on the Philly scene here in Austex, which is limited. Locally, I prefer the taste of Delaware Subs. Texadelphia is a little on the bland side. It's MUCH smaller than the Dela version, and less flavor. Mushrooms and peppers are extra, which is kinda sinful, given the plight of the American fatass who could use a little flavor from vegetables. Another thing, more of a side note. This place is more like a chain run operation~ no room for bending the rules, fun conversation, just doesn't feel local. Delaware feels local, home, and a little more "Austin". read more

It's all about the food at this location, but some of the others have a little more going for them in the way of atmosphere. Love the food, review is for the service of the guy at cash register at about 7:00pm today. Been coming to this location for years and have never been charged extra for sauces on a to-go order (probably because their is a free sauce bar inside where guests can help themselves as they wish). So the guy today tells me they have to charge for anything over two. After arguing with him for a minute about when that became a policy since their is a free sauce bar, I just agreed to pay. I asked for five mustards and four ranches. Charged me 81 cents lol. Get my order home and I have zero ranches and a cheese whiz sauce is also missing from my original order (comes with the sandwich). In a normal situation, I would just chalk this up to people making mistakes. But since he decided to make an issue out of something stupid, charge me for it, then fail to even provide what I paid for...screw this place. read more

Every time I come at lunch the place is clean, employees are friendly and the cheesesteaks are cooked just right. The regular cheesesteak is nothing special but I order it without cheese and order two small sides of chili con queso and smother the cheesesteak with the queso and it really hits the spot. read more

Horrible Horrible Horrible. I'm only giving it 1 star to write a review. The cheesesteak was bland and cheeseless. There may have been an onion slice but I don't recall seeing two. The jalepenos were no grilled at all (cold) and piled on like nachos. The chips were so greasy I could have my van an oil change with the excess. I left the pile of greasy chips directly on the table and there was an oil slick. Not even kidding. 10 bucks plus a tip (that wasn't warranted) down the drain. I was so excited to see a Texadelphia in the strip mall where the friend I was with had an errand to run. I used to eat at the location on the Drag when I was a student at UT in the 80's. It's probably been 20 years since I ate at a Texadelphia and I was so looking forward to it. We arrived at 11:55 on a Saturday. They were closed. A sign on the door said they would open at noon. Noon came and went, and they finally opened the door but said they had no cashier, so we would have to order online. Fine. Went to the "order on-line" button on the website, which asks for a zip code. Asked the kid at the counter for the zip code. "Zip code?", he says. Finally find and enter the zip code, and up pops a box that says "no times available at this location." At that point we gave up and went somewhere else. Pathetic. read more

I can't believe I'm just now getting to this review! We frequented Texadelphia quite a few times while on a travel nurse assignment in Austin. This place whips up a mean Philly cheesesteak!! Love it! Huge salads! Love the fried pickles! And best of all? A freaking free self serve/soft serve ice cream cone for purchasing anything on the menu. Love it! They're always quick, reasonable pricing, and have a friendly service staff. The place looks way nicer on the inside, than on the outside. They clearly have a Texas cheese steak special in the front that comes with waffle fries and cheese to dip them with to go along with your jalapeño drenched Texas steak but telling them you want exactly what's on the special doesn't seem to register to them... So I had to hand pick exactly what was on the picture promoting this special to this kid. Maybe he was new? Who knows but come on man learn your menu if you're working there... I've never had a Philly cheese steak from Philly so I obviously can't compare them but for what it's worth I enjoyed my food. The mustard they use here is so damn good! Went with a 4 because the customer service was a 4.5 and the food was a 3.5. Manager was very nice, gave me extra sauce and upgraded my Togo drink to a large for free. If the meal stopped there I would've given them a 5. The food tasted fine. Nothing absolutely amazing but it was more than enough to satisfy me. However, they forgot the cheese on my cheesesteak. Kind if a big deal. I was ultimately eating a steak sandwich. If I stayed at the store I'm sure they would've corrected my order but unfortunately I had to eat a pretty dry sandwich.
