I have to say that the service and food here has increasingly gotten better throughout the years. Its so great to see them still standing and serving burger lovers, like me, after all of these years. Great seating inside with booths and even long tables for large groups/parties to sit at. For the burgers, there are plenty of options and sizes of burger patties depending on what you want. You can customize and order how you want your burger with any type of cheese or additions like bacon or even onion rings. The kitchen staff are super consistent with their burgers and fries as they are all made-to-order and makes it all fresh and delicious for you. I love the two (2) soda machines they have here as you can also customize what you want to drink. I love finding the Hi-C drinks and customizing it with toppers like creme or making it a sparkling drink. The vegetable buffet area where you get all your hamburger fixin's is always clean, presentable, and fully stocked. I even love that they offer two (2) hot queso/cheeses in cauldrons as well - a regular and a spicy jalapeno one. They offer 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 or 1 lb burger patty options and grill the burger fresh when you order it. There is a choice of white, wheat or gluten free bun options and you can make any meal a combo by adding a side and a drink for $4.49. I ordered the chili cheese dog combo with sweet potato fries. The meal came out hot, and the sweet potato fries were a nice addition to the combo. There was a $2 up charge for the sweet potato fries. While the quality and flavors were familiar, I was a little surprised that the hot dog portion seemed smaller than I remembered from previous visits. We traveled to this Fuddruckers location from Dallas to celebrate a birthday for old times' sake and were a little disappointed at the ambience of the restaurant. The food was a little overpriced, but it tasted great and we were willing to pay for the nostalgia factor. This location is quite small (attached to a Luby's, the parent company), but they still have a good array of seating and the topping bar. They have the Coca-Cola freestyle machines which are always exciting to use as well! There is no wait staff, you order and pick up at the counter, which was a little sad considering what most Fuddruckers used to be. A football game was being played on the large TV screen when we were eating dinner, and an employee sweeping the floor was yelling so loud at the screen that we eventually did have to cut our visit a bit short. For those former Houstonians with a fond nostalgia for the Fuddruckers of the late 1980s, there are just a few options left in Texas. We were delighted to discover that Austin still has this little one off Slaughter just west of IH35. Just like we remembered, this Fuddruckers still has the self-serve cheese sauce and toppings bar. They also offer 3-4 sizes of burger patties with your choice of doneness. Finally, they have those fancy CocaCola Freestyle machines for making your wildest soda combo dream come true. Not sure why the overall rating is so low for this location. Our October 2024 weekday lunchtime visit was perfectly pleasant. Counter service was friendly and competent, the wait for food wasn't too long, and everything looked fresh & tasty on the toppings bar. Is this the best burger in Austin? No. But at this price point, I'd declare this a good value, especially with some strategic ordering. The dining room is small compared to the big locations of the past, but we enjoyed our booth seating and found plenty of available tables and bar seats at 12:15 on a Monday. BTW, Fuddruckers has a fascinating history as a company. It was started by the same guy who founded Macaroni Grill. He later sold it off and it passed through several mismanaging hands, including Luby's, before landing in 2021 with Nicholas Perkins' Black Titan. That's right, this company is a black-owned business with 92 corporate and franchised locations around the country. I had no idea there was a Fuddruckers 30 minutes away from me!! I have always been a huge fan and love their burgers! This location did not disappoint. I was sad that we couldn't put our own toppings though. This places was packed when we went. It's good to see the business doing well. I ordered the 1/2 lb with cheddar medium rare from the friendly man at the register (although they do have an electronic order stand for you shy types). My burger was cooked to perfection and I was delighted to see that the toppings bar lives on at this location! Red onion, leaf lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos and even pico de gallo! I loaded up on mayo, spicy mustard and ketchup for my fries and dug in. I'm happy to report that it was just as delicious as always. A big problem I have with some burger places is that they skimp on the buns. Not so here, the buns are big, crunchy and buttery as ever. My sweet potato fries were undercooked and not extra crispy like I ordered. The bacon on my burger wasn't even extra crispy like I ordered either. My husband didn't care for his burger either and didn't like his fries (he got the regular wedge fries). Our nephew said his food wasn't good too. He got the chicken tenders and regular wedge fries. The burgers we each ate did not have much taste. The chicken tenders I had, did not have much taste. Nothing to dip them in was offered either. They were dry. Fuddruckers has always made the World's Greatest Hamburgers. From the 80s to today, no one uses the freshest quality beef or bison and no one has a better fresh and buttered bun. The vegetable toppings are fresh and plentiful. The music is usually excellent and they don't force you to tip just because the burger is better than all the fast food joints. My family was excited to eat at a Fuddruckers because they have closed down the locations in Southern California. The man working at the cash register was unfriendly and when I asked about egg-free sides for my daughter (who has an egg allergy) he was entirely unhelpful. He said he didn't know. I asked if he could find out. He said he could only get the manager. I asked for him to do so. The manger was a blonde woman who was also incredibly rude and unhelpful. I explained I just wanted to confirm which food was allergy free for my daughter. She said she didn't know and that everything is online. I asked if they didn't have the ingredients lists for the food they serve. She got me a nutrition fact sheet with no allergy information what so ever on it. There was a line cook who was very considerate and checked the ingredients on the bags of dough they use for the buns. I ended up just giving her a plain meat patty. I was appalled at the lack of care for their customers safety with simple questions about allergens. The food was whatever. Not worth the money. There was only a single employee in the restaurant who was kind. I would recommend never going to this location and I will never eat at a Fuddruckers again. read more

Went there for the first time in quite a while. Service was great, food delicious but they were out of sweet tea, BUT the tables were not up to standard. Sat outside and I took a paper towel to wipe the table down and it came up BLACK. It was obvious the tables had not been cleaned in who knows how long. I realize it is spring time and everything is blooming but when a dry paper towel comes up black then it has been sometime since the tables have been cleaned. This particular Fuddruckers is pretty consistent, I usually get the medium cheeseburger with fries ( minus the seasoning- they are very heavy handed with it and it makes those little wedges too salty.) I must say that the meat to bun ratio is excellent and the buttery bread is delicious. They really need to add new burgers to their menu (it's a bit uninspired). Friendly staff and good food keep bringing us back. The only real concern would be the level of cleanliness that is in the dining room. Very disappointed, location is open for dine in today but tables are dirty, soda machine is on and accessible to people even though the city warning of not using tap water. Talked to the manager and he was not concern about people using the fountain drinks. He claimed that customers should not drink it but they are free to do it if they pleased. In the 15 minutes that I was there I saw kids, elderly people and a fee other customers drinking tap water from their machines. Shame on this place management, manager needs customer service hygiene training but over all he needs to care. This is a blast back to my childhood! I remember back when my family and I would sit down at a Fuddruckers and indulge on their delicious buns with super crispy edges, large patties, and that extra special kids dessert at the end (can't deny a kid his rice krispies!). Now, that was more than a decade ago. I wanted to come back and see how things have changed (no kids meal this time, sadly). Turns out, not much. This Fuddruckers is a small one. I came around 3pm so it was fairly empty, but I'm curious (scared) to see how packed it is during the lunch rush hour. I ordered the Swiss Melt because a swiss cheese, onion, and mushroom combo on a burger is one of the greats. Overall, the burger was good, although the mushrooms were a bit bland, and easily filled me up. The buns were the main reason why I enjoy eating at Fuddruckers as a kid, and I was delighted that they were just as addicting today. The price was a bit high for what I got. It puts their burger awkwardly in the "too expensive for a simple burger craving" and the "not unique or high-quality enough for a gourmet burger indulgence". My final rating is a 3.5, but with Austin being so burger-competitive, I need to be a bit more picky. read more

Fuddruckers was founded as Freddie Fuddruckers in 1979 in San Antonio, Texas, in a location converted to a restaurant. I was fortunate enough to eat there and it was excellent. However, due to expansion, growth, bankruptcies and the changes in food mandated by the Government, I am not comparing this location to the original one or even to other locations, as I feel each place needs to stand on its own merits. The Lady and I were in the area and entered here for the first time. There were several people in front of us, which was encouraging. There were six who totally lacked life skills and reminded me of the film Idiocracy. However, the gentleman taking orders was very patient and treated each as a valued customer. Then came our ordering experience. No problems here. This gentleman rates a star on his own. The order comes out and it is wrong, but no big deal as it was acceptable and I didn't notice where the source of the incorrect order was from. The vegetables and fixins looked fresh and they had premade salads that really looked good. A definite star. I thought this is going well. Upon sit-down, we wiped off the table, and bit into what appeared to be a decent burger. We were immediately disappointed with the bun, which was cold, dry, and just plain not good in texture or taste to the both of us. The onion rings were small and overcooked. We did not finish our meal. A charming young lady came over and as the Lady how we like our meal, and she was told of the experience very politely. So here is the bottom line. While looking good the burger and onion rings were a real disappointment. However, we may try again, but on the salads as they appeared to be quite good.
