I'll start off by saying, I'm most dissatisfied that I do not have the option of a ZERO STAR rating to give to Terra Plata.
-We went there for brunch to celebrate a birthday; there were 7 of us. Let's start with the good. My first impression of this place was great. Loved the decor, the interesting space, and the menu looked intriguing. One person in our party has a lot of food allergies, so I was glad that they were willing to accommodate her need to modify several side dishes in order to patch together a meal that she could enjoy. She was pleased with her dish of plain roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, and winter greens. That's as far as my good comments go. Now for the rest:
-Our service was mediocre at best. Our server lacked interaction and did the absolute bare minimum to keep us there. He filled our water every so often, and took our order. We asked a few questions about the menu and he answered with basic info that we could've found on the menu ourselves. There were about 3 tables of 2 and a few people sitting at the bar area, so from the looks of it, NOT very busy. Our server brought out 3 of 7 dishes after about 45 mins and said he'd be back with the rest. About 7 mins later, he brought out 3 more dishes and told the last person waiting for theirs it would be another few mins for the steak sandwich. About another 5 mins later, he brought out the sandwich. The weird timing of our dishes wouldn't have been that obvious/annoying if the food was good, which most of it was not.
-Falafel Sandwich- enjoyable, worth the $13
-Steak Sandwhich-tasted great, worth the $13
-Two of us ordered the Roast pork Hash- it didn't taste horrible, but it was almost completely cold when it got to our table. What very little hash there was, was scattered about messily on a huge plate, therefor cooled down much to fast. The sauce on top was ok, but we were both extremely dissatisfied with the rest. NOT worth $16
-And lastly, the birthday girl's dish. Baked eggs with greek style tomato and feta. When her dish arrived, the 3 eggs on top were completely raw. I'm talking just cracked fresh on top of the cooked stuff and brought to the table raw. The whites of the egg were completely clear and jiggly. Since we were waiting on one plate to still arrive, she asked if they could just pop it in the oven for a few more minutes while we waited. Her dish wasn't brought back until 15 mins later (long after our last plate arrived), EVERYONE was done eating, and the waiter says "Are THESE done enough for you?" Now the dish was dry, burned, caked onto the plate, and the eggs were now hard as rocks. Instead on insisting on making it right, he said "If you want another one then it's going to take a long time..Or we can take it back and make it into a scramble." Seeing that everyone was already through eating and having already waited OVER an hour for eggs, she turned it down. He didn't apologize, didn't try and at least recover the mistake with good service, he just walked away and didn't come back until he brought the bill out. All that he said was "You obviously didn't eat the egg dish, so it's not on there."
We all left extremely dissatisfied, and were appalled that no one apologized for such a horrible experience. Several of us at the table are servers, in retail or customer service and KNOW that this is not the level of care you take to ensure customer satisfaction. With a bill that came to $100, you'd think that the establishment/management would have higher expectations of their staff. Even through all of the missteps, a gesture as simple as a manager coming out to see what went wrong or to just show that they were aware of the situation would've recovered the experience. Instead, we will NOT be returning customers, will NOT recommend, and will NOT support what this establishment has to offer. There was great potential ruined by poor staff and sub-par food. What a bummer. read more
