This place has gone downhill. We showed up a little early for our reservation, so we started at the bar. I ordered a manhattan, and it arrived less than half full, which was not a great start. Once we were seated upstairs, we ordered a mix of things: chips, burrata, tuna crudo, risotto, chicken, and a burger. The chips were just okay, cold and served with sour cream, almost like something you'd get at a bad potluck. The burrata itself was fine, but the strawberries that came with it looked discolored and unappetizing. The tuna crudo tasted overly fishy. The chicken was easily the best dish of the night: perfectly cooked and moist. The burger was fine, but it came with even more chips. I wish someone had mentioned that, because we would have ordered a different appetizer. Our server, Sylvia, was excellent, and honestly one of the few highlights of the experience. The gift card situation was also odd. We were told we couldn't use the gift card toward the tip, so we had to tip separately. The upstairs space also felt tired. The plastic tarps covering the area were torn and looked ragged, which made the whole place feel neglected. Pricing is inconsistent too. Some things, like the wine, seem more than reasonable, while other items feel hard to justify. But my biggest issue is the menu. It's just boring. I come here about twice a year, and nothing ever really stands out. Everything feels a little too familiar and cliché: beets, burrata, the same kinds of dishes you see everywhere. I used to really love Terra Plata. When it first opened, it was one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. Now it feels like they've stopped trying and are aiming more at out-of-town conference guests from the nearby convention center than locals who might want to become regulars. read more

I want to like Terra Plata more than I do. The rooftop is beautiful and a lovely place to sit. However, the quality and portions do not justify the prices. Most recently, I came here for brunch. My drink, a spritz, was delicious, though pricey at $19.00. Strawberry crepes: just ok, and $17.00 for a diminutive portion of middling crepes. Pork belly & kimchi hash: excellent flavors, though was comprised nearly entirely of potato. There were only a few nibbles of pork belly. Avocado toast: my dining companion was displeased with the crunchiness of the bread and found it annoying to eat. The prices are just mind boggling. The value isn't there at all. For instance, the pork belly hash is 28$ with maybe 1oz of pork belly total; at Barking Frog in Woodinville, 28$ gets a plate with both several strips of bacon AND 2 sausages (and 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and a similar quantity of potatoes) read more

Beautiful interior and rooftop. The mood in the restaurant and being able to see the kitchen is always a plus for me. Food flavor was solid and tasty. The duck breast with the roasted cauliflower, highly recommend. If you're looking for a nicer place and fun atmosphere to catch up with friends, I'd recommend. Drinks are fun and strong (I had their house margarita and it was delicious.) We also had their truffle chips, salmon and couscous, and brussel sprouts. Hello, I'm writing to let you know that my friends and I received extremely bad service on the rooftop yesterday evening. Our server visited our table twice, and then completely forgot about us, tending to the tables around us but ignoring us. We had kind interactions with him, but felt that he was doing this because of how we looked, were dressed, perhaps our race? Jo A table was sat next to us 10 minutes after us and ordered much later and received their food well before us. Our fries arrived cold, and our empty plates were let on our table for over 15 minutes. I intended to order another glass of wine, but my empty drink sat at our table fo a long time an nh the time a busser came, we had been ignored for 30 minutes and were ready to leave. I'm writing this because I used to be a server and have worked in the service industry. I am someone who loves dining out for both the service and the food quality. Last night, ours was disappointing. My party felt that they were not "cool" enough to be noticed or respected, and we left extremely upset. For the price point and caliber of the restaurant, I was disappointed. I was more impressed with their focaccia skillet bread than my main dish, the "roast pig". The chorizo pieces in the "roast pig" were delightful but I had no idea what role the clams served. The dish is also under "land" so maybe it is also unsure of its identity. I have been here once about 15 years ago and decided to return recently as I was seeing a show in the area. I sat on the heated rooftop patio which was a comfortable temperature even in the winter. It was much quieter and less crowded here than in the indoor dining room. The food is definitely best shared in a group of 2-4 people, but it's still reasonable to go alone and experience a few dishes. I particularly enjoyed the lamb meatballs, but everything I had was good. Wine by the glass is fairly limited (another reason to go with others), but the wait person was very helpful in suggesting glasses that would match my taste and the food. Overall a very nice experience. I will probably return again, hopefully sooner than 15 years from now. read more

came here on a saturday for late brunch after a resy fell through at another place and was seated immediately downstairs (upstairs was had no space for a party of 6) the drinks were decent, i tried the forbiden rice drink and it tasted like a creamier horchata. the patatas bravas was a pretty large serving to split among 6 and was perfectly crisp. Also ordered the churros but they were just decent imo. Not sure what I was expecting with the croque madame but it was okay and had a heavy mustardy flavor. The portion was very large tho! Came in for a quick solo meal on a work trip. Place was big and nicely lit. A bit noisy but not too bad. Bartender was nice. Ordered the roast pig, GL focaccia, and a cocktail and glass of wine. I saw the focaccia was GF which i usually stay away from but decided to gamble. Honestly it was pretty damn good. Nice and crispy. I'd prefer reg focaccia but it was nice if you didn't think of it as focaccia and instead an airy loaf of dipping bread. The pork was awesome. Massive portion. Very tender meat. Stopped in on a Friday night and the restaurant had a nice sized crowd. We sat in the upstairs patio area which was a nice atmosphere, if not a bit chilly. Our picnic style chairs were a bit wobbly, but it wasn't bad enough to take away too much from the meal. Everything that came out of the kitchen was all solid, if not a tad overpriced. The chips with truffle sour cream were a surprise and very good. Fries were nothing crazy, but well executed. Really enjoyed the tomato pasta and lamb ribletts. Alright, let me begin by saying that this place is a 5 star restaurant, if we were solely judging the place by the quality of the food. However, it loses a star due to the behavior of 2 of their hostesses, let me explain. Me and my wife were visiting from San Jose, and after trying all the recommended restaurants and activities in town, we decided to venture out and find a place on our own. That's when we came across Terra Plata. Judging by the people there, and the overall ambiance, we could tell it was one of those places where rich people go to feel rich. It's always a hit or miss with places like that, but as long as the food is good, I can deal with being around those types of people. It was a Monday, and as we passed by, we noticed the restaurant was only half full, and decided to pop in to see if the food was any good. A lady greeted us awkwardly, and told us they only take reservations, and she couldn't seat us. We could tell that was a lie, but what could we say? Nothing, so we left. The next day, we were having some coffee at Starbucks reserve, and afterwards, we saw they had 0 customers, so we decided to stop by again, and see if a different host would seat us. This time, there was a blonde girl, who told us that we could only stay until 5:45 if she seated us. It was 4:00, and even though that was a very strange thing for her to say, we looked past it and sat down to eat. Our waiter was great, he knew everything there was to know about the menu, and he wasn't stuckup and strange like the hostesses. He made excellent recommendations, and was very attentive to our table. At this point, the hostess had seated 2 other couples, and we never once heard her tell them that they had to leave by 5:45. Then the hostess (not the waiter) comes up and asks if we ordered drinks. We said we were fine with water, and in a rude way she responded "would you like to order drinks?" I couldn't believe her attitude, it was almost as if she was suspicious about us being in there. Mind you, we aren't slobs, we don't dress like bums, we don't have blue hair or anything like that. I'm Armenian and my wife is Iraqi, she doesn't wear a hijab, and we are clean cut people. We do look like we come from though, we are middle eastern! All I can assume, is that there was a racial motivation behind the behavior of these particular hostesses. It's strange to me, that everytime I experience racism, it's at an establishment that displays pride and blm materials, like Terra Plata does right upon entering. The interesting thing is, that the tables next to us, were actually really nice people, and not as elitist as the hostesses seemed to be. It's usually the other way around back home in California. In closing, come for the food, it was amazing. The best steak I've ever had was here. The server was a true gentlemen, and the restaurant was very clean as well. I just wish the hostesses practiced what they preach when it comes to acceptance of minorities, and people of color, instead of pretending they do for social credit amongst people who look just like them. read more

I went here for a friend's birthday, and it was the perfect place to celebrate! We did make reservations online, and requested to sit on the outdoor patio, which was so nice on warm day. I had noted on the reservation that it was my friend's birthday, and they had a customized menu waiting at our table with a happy birthday message written on it, which was a very kind and special gesture. The food here is fresh and delicious, and many of the items are seasonal. We ordered a few dishes to share, and all had amazing flavors, the carrots being one of our favorites. The gluten free focaccia was also surprisingly light and fluffy, and I would never have guessed that it was gluten free! The waitstaff was very attentive and gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. We did ask if they did anything special for dessert, since it was my friend's birthday, and although they don't give a free dessert, they do put a candle in a dessert you order! It's a great stop of a glass of wine and an appetizer before dinner but I probably wouldn't recommend it for dinner given the prices. We ate on the rooftop on a cold February night and we were warm enough with our coats on (until the wind picked up). I'll preface my review of the food by admitting we were there on Valentine's Day. It was extremely busy and the staff seemed a little overwhelmed. Everything seemed like it had been left out a little too long before being served. The lambshank had interesting garnish and sauce but the meat itself lacked flavor. The cauliflower dish we ordered was yummy but it was overwhelmingly spicy. I couldn't finish it! A Truly Special Seattle Dining Experience! We had an amazing dinner at Terra Plata last night, and I can't recommend it enough--especially if you're hosting out-of-town guests! I brought a visitor who was new to Seattle, and the team went above and beyond by creating custom menus that said, "Welcome to Seattle, Jinny!" Such a thoughtful touch that made my guest feel so special. We arrived about an hour early and asked if we could be seated ahead of our reservation--they were super accommodating and got us seated right away. First impressions were warm and welcoming. We started with a few appetizers: the house chips, shishito peppers, beet salad, and the mixto paella. The shishito peppers had a nice kick, but the creamy dip balanced it out perfectly. Everything was fresh and flavorful. For dessert, we shared the churros, which were just the right portion for our group of three--crispy, warm, and delicious. We also enjoyed two bottles of prosecco. The staff was attentive, always making sure our glasses were full and checking in just the right amount. We sat on the rooftop, which was absolutely perfect. The sun was out, there was a cover for shade, and as the evening cooled down, it became even more comfortable. The ambiance really added to the experience. A friend and I had a reservation for the patio on a Friday night. On this particular night we were the last reservation & they were closing for a staff dinner. We were sat at our table & the overhead heaters weren't working but there was a standing heater that pushed heat towards us slightly. I asked about the heaters and was eventually offered a blanket. I feel like this should be offered when seated. Our server was definitely lacking & never actually came to take our order until he noticed our food was served by his colleague that picked up his slack. We only came for the rooftop and they played r&b but vibe is definitely low. I ordered the burger and it was just ok i chose fries vs the chips. Kinda messy. A friend ordered the clams & it was actually a lot. Then we ended with the churros that were doughy in the middle. So we returned those. Once it was time to close out I was handed someone else's Amex & told the server that wasn't my card. Apparently our bills were switched so that took a sec to correct. Mother's Day Brunch... I've been here before, several years ago, and while I don't recall all the details, I do remember it being a good experience. So... when a family friend suggested Terra Plata for Mother's Day Brunch, I was excited. Let's address a few things upfront: the service was good. A couple of things were missed, but forgivable since it was Mother's Day, and I'm sure the restaurant had already dealt with masses of people by the time our reservations came around. The ambiance was lovely, especially because it was a sunny day. Their location lets in so much light, and with the sides open to the fresh air, it felt almost like dining outside, but with the comfort of being indoors at the same time. The place is beautiful, with lovely details and honestly, it's one of the prettier places to dine in Seattle, especially on a nice day, like this Mother's Day. Now, onto the food. Of course, they had a special menu, which for many restaurants is a must, especially with our seating limited to 1 hour and 15 minutes. So, to "turn and burn," it makes sense to keep the menu short and simple. We ordered the Brunch Baguette, shrimp and Grits, yogurt and fruit, croque madame, manchego biscuit, frittatas, Salad niçoise, and various beverages. Let's start with the highlights: the bread from Seawolf is always a win, the manchego biscuit was solid, and the Rosemary Grapefruit soda was tasty. The croque madame was perfectly balanced--not too heavy or light, just the right texture for comfort food. The Shrimp and Grits were spot-on, perfectly cooked with flawless corn and shrimp. What didn't work today were the frittatas. They seemed to be missing something--maybe salt or another element on the plate to make the dish feel more complete. Also, they weren't hot, or warm for that matter when served, which didn't feel quite right, especially considering this restaurant typically serves food as soon as it's ready. The salad was good, flavorful, and seasoned just right, but it felt like there wasn't enough on the plate--maybe a bit more greens or a couple more potatoes would have helped, but overall, it was tasty. We also ordered another item, which the server noted down, but a few minutes later, we were informed they couldn't make it. However, we discovered after leaving that we were still billed for it (our fault for not checking before handing over our card). Honestly, the overall experience wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I would attribute it to the busyness of Mother's Day, but even with a smaller menu to expedite service, it wasn't the perfect experience we had hoped for our moms in the group. read more

I had dined at Terra Plata ages ago well before I was a Yelper. Tamara Murphy is a brilliant executive chef/owner that was part of Seattle's rising culinary scene back in the 1990s. I enjoyed her stint at Campagne and her previous spot, Brasa. No surprise that Terra Plata continues to be a successful restaurant on Capitol Hill, promoting Earth to Table with fresh, seasonal ingredients. I had been meaning to revisit and had that opportunity for dunch/linner 4pm reservation (12/3/23). Again, I lucked out with free nearby street parking. It was an oasis to arrive at Terra Plata after the crowds and din from the Seattle Christmas Market and the nearby Starbucks Reserve and Roastery earlier. Genuine welcoming vibe upon entering and when seated. I really enjoyed our personable wait person. We ordered four items. It was also great to sample bites. Definitely a place to come with a group in order to get a comprehensive taste of the menu, divided as starters, earth, sea, and land. We enjoyed the Harissa-Glazed Carrots and Baked Leek Gratin from the earth section, $15 and $18, respectively. The carrots also had hummus, feta, and drizzled with a honey glazed vinaigrette. The recommended leek gratin was spot on with chorizo, manchego, breadcrumbs, pickled red onions, topped with boquerones. I enjoyed the presentation and bright flavors. The College Friend leaned towards the Albondigas from the land section ($26), which were sizable veal and lamb meatballs with smoked pequillo pepper sauce, almonds, feta, sultanas atop fluffy lemon couscous. I thoroughly enjoyed the Whole Roasted Branzino from the sea section ($40) and amazing flavors from the bok choy, fennel-carrot salad with tomato-ginger butter. Wish I had saved a piece of the toasted bread from the gratin dish to sop up the delicious sauce. It was a nice touch to be offered assistance to debone the fish. I declined since I am able to do so without any hesitation. Fresh, tender filet from the head to tail fin. Lesson learned - don't let an OG not be part of your dining rotation. Revisiting Terra Plata was my refreshing reminder. Wished I had room for dessert, but had to pass after such a satisfying, tasty meal. Definitely recommended! read more

The beautiful plates of Terra Plata... A gorgeous spring Sunday in th city coupled with equally beautiful plates made for a perfect Mother's Day meal. Locally sourced ingredients shined in every dish. Service was unpretentious, the cooks prepared each dish with love as they were slowly delivered to the table when ready, each with thier own unique flavor palates with an emphasis on Latin flavors. I felt like I was transported elsewhere: somewhere between Baja California and Spain if that was ever a place. Terra Plata is one of the quintessential farm to table restaurants in Seattle and should not be missed. The only downer was from the moment we sat down to when we got our food it took almost an hour. Which sucks when you're paying $6/hr parking. So service was spotty I get it they were busy but if they cannot up hold adequate service for everybody do not sit as many people. The food however was amazingly delicious. The ribs would fall right off the bone and we also got the churros for dessert. Love how the meal are shareable. Likes: the whole trout with brown butter and olives, the beet salad, the fries, and parts of the charcuterie board ( country pate and pickles were tasty). Less-liked: the gem lettuce salad (the strawbs were not fresh (mushy and off-tasting), nor was the chèvre, which had a weird texture/smell), the chicken liver mousse and salami on the charcuterie board (same notes re: freshness - sour flavor/oxidized appearance), and the meatballs (3 teensy ones for +$20 - they were tasty but the dish was not a good value). Our waiter took the Gem lettuce salad off of our bill without us having to ask - he could tell it wasn't a favorite. Class act all the way. We came for my birthday actually and it was such a cute surprise how they wrote happy birthday on the menu! For birthdays and special events they customize the menus to write a small greeting which is very thoughtful! They do not give a free dessert (will put a candle in a dessert for you) but I would come again for a birthday celebration just for this personalized touch! The food was also sooo delicious! The gluten free focaccia bread surprised us the most as you couldn't even tell it was gluten free! However, the carrots were our favorite! I want to try to recreate them they were so good! I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a nice and relaxing experience to celebrate an event! This was the perfect rooftop bar experience! read more
