There are a lot of really bad drinks, food, and vibes at Seattle restaurants that look exactly like this and have almost identical menus as well. Honestly, I have never been to a city where the bad restaurants and bars cosplay so well. Fortunately, this bar is actually really really good. Their happy hour is an infuriatingly tiny window (4-5p), but really really good. 50 percent off of every drink, and 25 percent off all food. We had some of the best truffle parmesan fries I have ever had here. It came with a black garlic aioli that was also incredibly good and left a really strong impression. We got 8 different drinks, if you include a 3-amaro flight, and all of them were storied, complex, herbaceous and delicious. They printed out cute little descriptions with lots of great context too. That flight was $21 pre tax tip and also pre the 50 percent off happy hour. It was one of the best flights I have ever had. They have a section for amaro-based drinks. We tried two of them and they were stellar. We also got 2 non-alcoholic (N/A) drinks that were both some combo of delicious, complex, and refreshing In a sea of middling bars with $22 drinks, herb and bitters stands out. Their patio space with a clear roof feels like a lovely sun room with lots of christmasy trees. The menus are printed in these cute little kids books. This place is stellar, and you should definitely go. Please keep them in business. However, they serve RABBIT on their menu and this is a big no-no for me that unfortunately I will not be returning and telling my friends to avoid unless this is permanently removed as a principle. Rabbits served at restaurants are the exact same breeds and rabbits that serve as pets. They are smart, loving, sentient beings that are much more valuable than a meal. I hope Herb and Bitter take rabbit dishes off their menu. When they do, I will return. Until then, I'll be looking for other bars to patronize. read more

My friend and I came to Herb and Bitter for SRW. The three course menu had a starter, a salad, and an entree. - Brussel Sprouts: 0/5, all of them were completely burnt! The brie was also burnt. I asked to swap my starter for something else and the kitchen rank fully agreed. - Spicy Fish Tacos: 3/5, the fish was good and the wonton wrappers was a nice complement. I wasn't a huge fan of the radish on top felt like it broke up the texture and made bites harder to eat. - Pear Salad: 3/5, I wasn't too impressed by this. It felt like they were too heavy on the chicory and not the other things. I did like the gorgonzola a lot. - Prawn Risotto: 5/5, this was by far my favorite item. I thought the andouille sausage was a wonderful complement. The risotto was perfectly cooked and very flavorful! Looking back, I think a salad course was unnecessary. Would have preferred a dessert as the extra course! We liked the entrees a lot, my friend got the Pork Chop and was happy with it. I'd come back just to try more of their main dishes. This has got to be the best happy hour deal in town! They have all day happy hour on Sundays and i always go for the fried chicken with corn bread and a nice cider. The chicken is juicy, crispy, and well seasoned. It pairs very nicely with a decent helping of corn bread. Im not typically a slaw person at all but theirs is actually super good! Very fresh and no mayo if I remember correctly. Super yum. They have so many delicious things on draft but my favorite has to be the Slightly Furry Pineapple cider. Then had the burratta salad which was decent but it felt like any other salad. The burratta was just okay. My entree was the pork chop and it was really good. There was a crust that was really nice and also the stone fruit jam/puree on top went really well with the pork chop. The portion was also pretty good. I also liked the pickled cabbage and carrots as a nice addition. Me and my partner disagreed on the chicken wings. First, they were legs and not wings--but that did not both me (and the details on menu did say drumettes). I loved the buttermilk crust with some honey on top--she thought it was a little too think. Had a few shared dishes that were all tasty- - Charcuterie & cheese board had a nice selection and solid accoutrements - truffle fries were fresh and tasty, aioli was fine - bread with oil & balsamic was warm, toasted and buttery - green salad was fine but underdressed - filet asada was pretty good - cooked a little more than requested (medium throughout instead of medium rare) but tender and well seasoned. Cream sauce was flavorful and on a bend of potatoes that were yummy. Sat in the back patio where the roof was retracted, which made for a really nice spring evening. The waitress was also able to do individual checks as long as we stayed in our seats. This makes spot perfect for large groups. They have an expansive cocktail and spirits list. All of the drinks were amazing! I got the ratatouille, seared scallops, and the fig pig burrata salad. Thé ratatouille was so good. Super refreshing and bright and perfect for the hot sunny day. Seared scallops was also very good! I love the pasta The came with. Our friend got the steak which I didn't get a taste but it was plated SO beautifully. Our Fig Pig and Burrata salad was mid. It seemed pretty small for $16 and the burrata was kind of cottage cheesy as it came broken up vs intact (egg shaped). I would order everything again except for the burrata. The overall ambiance is very unique and I love the art-deco-y almost speakeasy vibes. The patio is better lit but the main dining room has mood lighting. I might have showed up drunk but it was a great time. The back seat area is very large and inviting. It was a semi nice day so definitely a plus. It is sweet, salt and smoky in perfect harmony. This was so good and the right amount of sour. Mezcal margarita: I ordered this on impulse and it did not disappoint. This margarita packed a mezcal punch, and the tajin on the top really made this pucker (in a good way). Truffle fries-pure indulgence. Their lemon aioli was really packed with zing, and the fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. Extra points for a really fun presentation! Casio E Pepe-this is a cheese and black pepper noodle lover's dream. This was creamy and wonderful, and it was a shame to share with anyone. Southern Buttermilk Fried Chicken- This came with rosemary cornbread with honey glazed on the top. This chicken was fried but not greasy-very savory with the right amount of sweet. I enjoyed all these foods with hot sauce (Cholula). Our waiter was wonderful-he made great recommendations, and the Herb & Bitter is simply beautiful to look at. Walked into cool atmosphere and it was looking to be a good experience. Everything went downhill, however, from there. The menus were only available on our phones, which couldn't read the QR code in the dark. Once we were finally able to access them, the site kept freezing and/or throwing up an error code. When it wasn't freezing it was constantly reloading every time we tried to zoom in to actually read the screen (QR code takes you to their website, which is not optimized for viewing on a phone). We asked for paper menus but were told those weren't available because they're going to make changes to the menu. Terrible customer experience #1. Ordering drinks. This place specializes in cocktails and has a large spirits menu. The waitress, however, could not explain the cocktails and had no knowledge of the differences in some of the gins behind the bar. Wife ordered wine, waitress brought out the wrong wine. Terrible customer experience #2. Ordered appetizers, including the cheese platter. Waitress brought out the wrong appetizer, a charcuterie platter. Terrible customer experience #3. Ordered main course. No issues this time, food was all pretty good. Paying the bill. They drop a paper copy of the bill with a QR code on top, making it very obvious this is their preferred method of payment. This QR code took us to a non-functioning website. Terrible customer experience #4. A different waiter then came to take our payment. I told him how their reliance on technology for technology's sake does not make a good customer experience and that he should share this feedback with his management. Can't learn something isn't serving their customers if they don't hear about the issues. This guy, however, just took on a snide attitude, saying well you don't have to pay for it that way. Completely overlooking the point I was making and clearly not taking the message to management. Terrible customer experience #5 (and this was the worst). In summary, with 5 terrible customer experiences during our visit, I can confidently say we will never return to Herb & Bitter. read more

The restaurant was able to accommodate a same-day outdoor dining reservation and had excellent COVID protocols. The backyard has a retractable roof that will help make the space appropriate even during the wet Seattle winter! 1) Service (+): The restaurant is very clean, with all staff wearing masks. The outdoor dining area is beautiful and spacious and our server was super friendly and helpful. 2) Ambiance (+): Herb & Bitter is one of the most romantic restaurants in Seattle. It's perfect for a late summer night and you can even hear the gentle zoom of airplanes overhead. This is a perfect date spot! 3) Food (+): For appetizers, I highly recommend the shishito peppers, which are small and powerful, with a crunchy drizzle of cream sauce. For mains, the salami sliders are very delicious and come with a side of the addictive duck fat fries. I also highly recommend the smoked half chicken, which was super juicy and flavorful. 4) Alcohol/Drinks (+): There is a large selection of cocktails here and the menu changes regularly with the season. If you don't find the perfect drink on the menu, you can always opt for the "Bartender's Whimsy" and describe exactly what you want. I highly recommend the Terra Bella, a smoky mixture of mezcal, lime, pineapple and bitters. 5) Value for Money (+): The prices here are great for the craftsmanship and quality of the food and drinks.
