On a weekend stay in St Augustine, we were looking for a place to grab dinner before a show at the Amp but didn't want the standard beach fare. Found Terra & Acqua with a quick search on Yelp. We were not disappointed. We made it in just in time to get a happy hour drink and appetizer. The wine was lovely and the meatballs were delicious. The sauce... I could drink it! It was our first time dining here as some of the reviews caused me to hesitate. I'm very glad to have finally tried the food here. It was slower on a Saturday around 5:30pm and was a beautiful day so we decided to sit outside on the patio which is really nice. My wine was wonderful and my partner enjoyed his drink as well. We order the focaccia bread basket which was amazing. I got the gnocchi with tomato and basil. It was a light tomato sauce and the gnocchi were the best I've had in a very long time. My partner got a pizza that was equally delicious he said. The waitress was very attentive. We'll definitely be back. read more

Tonight we had a spectacular time at Terra & Acqua. We started with the focaccia bread and were impressed with the serving size for only 4$!! We ordered delicious drinks with lots of flavor. The featured cocktail was a gin, blueberry, and thyme. The pasta was so fresh and the sauce was delicious. I had to stop myself from eating it all because I wanted to have some for lunch tomorrow too! Our waitress was very kind and informative. Uuuughhh... I hate to have to do this, especially during the time of Covid, but I'm sorry guys... even during Covid when things are tough, if you can't get it together and serve a decent meal then it's time to shut it down. It really feels like desperate times have befallen this restaurant and it definitely shows in the poor quality of the food they are serving. My girlfriend said that she had eaten here before and that the food was good and I was in the mood for Italian so we decided to dine here. The staff we encountered were very nice but even they seemed sheepish about how badly things were being cobbled together and it was clear that they were totally disorganized. When we came in I would say at least 30% or 40% of the tables in the restaurant were open/available but the hostess seemed confused as to how/where to seat us and I definitely felt like she was relieved when we told her we would just sit at the bar. I can understand this to some extent as I know that a lot of restaurants are short-staffed right now. When we tried to order the two items on the menu that looked interesting to us.... the wild boar pasta and the bib lettuce salad, we were informed that neither one of them was available. We asked for a different salad with pancetta added and we were told that they were out of pancetta (which was why the bib lettuce salad wasn't available). I'm thinking to myself.. "an Italian restaurant with no pancetta?"... I mean, times are tough but I know that pancetta is obtainable and certainly a crucial ingredient for this restaurant. We ended up ordering the lobster ravioli, a pizza, and a caesar salad. The salad was billed on the menu as "romaine hearts" but it was absolutely the worst, most rough, fibrous, dark green outer leaves of some really tough romaine, and it was obviously just chopped and thrown into a bowl with some basic dressing and zero thought put in to it. It felt like the part of the lettuce that a higher-end restaurant would throw away... the OPPOSITE of romaine hearts. I've never sent a salad back in my life but I took one look at this and had to send it back. I wished that I had taken a photo of it for this review but I wasn't thinking about it a the time... hoping things would get better. The pizza was perhaps the worst I've ever had. It was an awful, watery mess. I can't imagine any self-respecting Italian pizza chef putting something like this in front of anyone. It disintegrated in my hands and fell apart into a soupy mess. The lobster ravioli was okay. It's pretty hard to screw up pre-made ravioli that you boil in a pot and put sauce on. I did think it was odd that they put peas on the ravioli pasta. At first I assumed that they were capers, which would make more sense... but as with everything else the quality seemed cheap, even for something that sounds fancy. The bartender who served us was a nice enough guy, but when he made my girlfriend's martini I watched him closely and there was still quite a bit of liquid left in the shaker after he poured it. The drink was weak (which is hard to do with a martini). I pointed out to him that it wasn't dry enough and that I thought perhaps some booze was left in the shaker. He got defensive about it, but he did supplement with another shot of Vodka. I just thought it was weird that he would argue with us over something like that. On top of the food quality issues, it was REALLY HOT inside the restaurant. Perhaps not their fault but it would have been nice if someone had told us the A/C was broken. Several main dishes out of stock, expensive wine stored in the front in the heat of the sun, bolognese was just just meat sauce, vegetable dish with just peppers...light bulb out in fixture above our table.... Suggest staying in downtown Saint Augustine for more fine dining. (And they added 20 percent gratuity even on the wine - which was warm and the server never pored the wine. The butternut squash ravioli was great until I felt something a little crunchy and realized I was biting down on a piece of plastic! When I showed it to my waiter, she very unapologetically told me "oh, that's part of the wrapping for the cookie crumble on top of the dish!" Needless to say, my enthusiasm for the rest of my meal was greatly diminished. Stuff happens, I'm not a whiner, but I think for a "higher end" restaurant, they could have at least apologized, and maybe offered me a complimentary glass of wine, or something! It's rare to find really good, authentic, Italian food. When you do find it, you want to shout it from the mountains. Terra & Acqua isn't really good Italian food. It's ludicrously, ridiculously, fantastic Italian food! The chef is top notch, and has built out a team that mirror that quality. The waiter we had was literally an older Italian gentleman, who was a great guide through our meal. We started out with the charcuterie board and fresh bread. Seriously, one of the best charcuterie I have ever had. There were some meats and cheeses on there that I had no experience with, and I am much the better for learning about them! I had the Pappardelle Cinghale, which is comprised of handmade pappardelle, wild boar, plum tomato sumo, fresh herbs. This was my first experience with wild boar, and I was not let down. It had just the right mixture of texture and flavor. I could not believe how rich and sumptuous that dish was. I cannot remember the name of the dessert I had, but it was a daily special, lemon based. Ohmyword! The charcuterie board, bread, and main course were so much food, but I could not pass up that lemon dessert. It was worth. every. bite. If I could give Terra & Acqua 437 stars, I would give Terra & Acqua 437 stars. 5 is just not enough. read more

Wow Absolutely stunningly awful horrible experience. Had a 730 reservation on a Monday night. Waited at our table for 30 minutes - no water - no one acknowledged we were there. After asking for a waiter they came over put a bottle of water on our table and proceeded to let us know they were out of a lot of things - including pizza! Oh my, what fantastic food. My daughter wanted to spend the day in St. Augustine for her birthday and I needed a break from the crowds on St. George Street. While I love it, sometimes eating in that frantic atmosphere is not conducive to a relaxing meal. Lucky for me, I made reservations at Terra & Acqua and while they had never heard of it, I was happy and since I was paying, that was just fine. We made it there a little earlier than our reservation and they accommodated us with a problem. Shortly after the restaurant began filling up, but we never felt rushed nor did we wait fir food service. The food itself was fantastic. Here is what we dined on: Antipasto Plate - excellent, with thinly sliced cuts of meat and cheese that were paired to perfection. Bruschetta - the only fail of the night, way too many onions and not enough tomato. It really overpowered the dish. Caesar Salad - fantastic presentation and flavor, really a great dish but we could have used a little more of it. Ravioli - probably the most interesting dish of the night, with savory butternut squash paired with a sweet crumble, almost like a cookie. Really delicious. Lasagna - really well done, traditional but delicious. Brick Oven Chicken - a little spicier than expected, so it was not perfect for everyone, but it was so full of flavor. Arugula and Prosciutto Pizza - a simple dish done so well, but paled compared to some of the other dishes. Creme Brûlée - my daughter's birthday choice, which she loved. It was not unique, but it was done very well. Profiteroles - another table favorite, really well presented and delicious. Service was efficient but not overly personal, in fact it made the experience a little less pleasurable but the food more than made up for it. A few different points to cover: 1. Ambiance: HOT! I'm not sure if the AC was broken but it was SO HOT I could not enjoy my food. 2. Service: They accept more people than they are able to properly serve and attend. Be ready to wait for food, refills, and attention general. My mom had to get out of her seat and look for someone on 3 different occasions. The first was for salt & pepper. The server practically threw the salt & pepper on the table without stopping. The second was for a refill, and when it finally arrived it was the wrong drink so she asked for the correct one, which never arrived. Lastly, the third was to pay, still had to wait tonfind someone to take our payment before we could leave. 3. Food: We started with the grilled octopus appetizer, although I will say the octopus was good, it should be called a salad. The main ingredient was the salad, NOT the octopus. The plate consisted of 6-7 small bitesize pieces of octopus on a bed of salad. We then had a caprese which was good. Not great, not bad, just good. My mom had the Papardelle Ragu, she took a bite, and left the rest. The pasta noodles were harder than 'al dente' and the sauce was just not good (I also tasted the dish and had the same thoughts). Lastly, I had the Grilled Porkchop, the flavors were nice and overall a good dish, my one feedback is that I thought it was a tad overcooked therefore harder/more chewy than I prefer, the broccoli and mashed potatoes were great! After visiting over 50+ times and being a local resident in Sea Grove tonight was the absolute lesson in what not to do. 1. Never delivered the kids drinks 2. After 25 minutes waiting in the kids food we are told they are out of dough and no more pizza so we are minus 2 dinners. 3. Another 25 minutes in the adult orders we are told they are out of 1 meal and therefore did not make the 2nd (WTF logic). 4. Manager comes over and argues and makes excuses versus apologizing. Atmosphere? Check. Decently priced? Check. Bomb food? Double check. Snagged a last-minute reservation to have dinner with a couple of friends last night and really enjoyed every part of the meal. Complimentary, still warm from the oven bread loaded with herbs was served with olive oil and balsamic. I got the Cabernet Sauvignon, which I enjoyed with the charred octopus appetizer (which was to die for). My entree was the gnocchi with the spicy sausage and man... those gnocchi were what pillowy pasta dreams are made of. Super flavorful but not too heavy (although the portion size was big enough that I had to take some home). My friend and I had a nice experience for dinner the other night...our server was pleasant and perfectly attentive... The wine list is pretty nice...lots of great Italian wines but a little pricey for a place that serves pizzas and no dish over $26...there are tons of wonderful wines that have better price points and IMO carrying too many bottles well over $60 makes it a harder sale...but we chose the only primitivo on the list (one of my favorites) which was $58 and it was excellent... For dinner, my companion ordered the swordfish special which he said was delicious while I ordered the aragosta e crostacei...this is the grilled lobster with frutti di mare, shrimp, and grilled vegetables...the seafood was cooked beautifully...the lobster tail was flavorful and perfectly cooked. I felt there could have been more frutti di mare (it appeared there was only calamari whereas this term usually indicates mussels, clams, even scallops...as well as shrimp, so it was strange they listed it separately to me). It also seemed to be lacking in the grilled vegetables department as I was expecting more of seasonal grilled veggies and received a plate with tons of arugula and smaller softer veggies...while the dish was tasty overall I did not feel it was worth the price and if they are going to change a dish or serve it differently they should let you know prior to ordering...this was more of a warm salad...they do offer the same style over pasta but I was really in the mood for some veggies... Overall, a nice place to try...maybe I'll go back for pizza as it is wood fired if I'm in the area (or give a pasta dish a try)... Very sad after tonight's visit. We have thoroughly enjoyed our Monday night gf pizza night. Tonight however, we had a snooty waitress who charged us far more than anyone else. Please explain to my why our GF pizza was 21$ vs the usual . We had red onions, peppers, artichokes, spinach(like 6 leafs). Compare it to the attached photo. 3$ is added for gf crust which I have never fully understood because the pizza is a fraction of the size. Nonetheless, we usually pay around 16. I told the girl and it was a complete attitude. It's sad because we were getting a good vibe and enjoying frequently dining here more often. read more

I've never left a review before but felt compelled to share what an awful experience we had at Terra Aqua. At 7pm, they were out of 5 of the entrees including the specials. They were out of basil and parmesan cheese - this is an Italian restaurant! They were out of romaine lettuce for a Caesar salad. Can't make this stuff up! The food that was served was mediocre at best. The polenta cakes tasted like old used oil. The veal was mushy. My order was missed altogether. I could go on. Other than missing my meal, none of this was within the server's control yet she was indignant rather than apologetic. There were 11 of us and we all agreed, we'd would never go here again. We went as a family after traveling 2 days to get to our vacation destination only to be treated like we were bothering them just to be there. Our server and one other we asked for help when ours wasn't around had the worst attitudes. The food was very good and worth the wait. It took at least 30-40 mins for our meals. After mentioning our experience to the manager, the response was they get cranky when we had a busy night. Not acceptable to take out on your pardons! read more

The restaurant has excellent pizza, and great appetizers. the specials are yummy. We could only eat so much. It is nice to see that after the spring 2020 debacle that this restaurant is packed. Josh was our waiter and provided great service; was knowledgeable regarding the menu/specials and attentive. The house/suggested Chianti was solid. We started off with antipasti for 3. This was served on a large hardwood platter and included assorted meats, cheeses, vegetables, and shrimp skewers. For dinner we had the tagliatelle aragosta, veal Marsala, gnocchi Bolognese, and scallop risotto. All were solid. If we come back to St. Augustine I will visit this place again. read more

I went in with very high expectations based on the reviews and local recommendations - my experience fell short of the 5 star reviews seen on Yelp. I'm used to eating in the North End of Boston at some of the best Italian restaurants in the US & this place does not stack up to those. It was good, but not outstanding in any way. The hostess tried to seat us in the smallest booth I've seen - all the booths are small (perfect for 2 not for 4) and there are 6 tops in the center of the restaurant. We had to move from the booth. Our waiter was friendly and OK but not amazing. The menu lacked some of the classic Italian dishes that I love - namely chicken parmesan. In fact, there was an absence of chicken on the menu & the choices of protein were limited. I ended up splitting the caprese salad with my wife (which they charged us for a split charge of $2 - what cheap skates). I ended up having the pasta ragu bologenese which was very good & the pasta was homemade - but I thought the portion size was small... had it not been for the fabulous bread and oil, I would have left hungry. I'm sure we will go back and give this another try :) read more
