Without fail, this restaurant can never get the order right. They need to invest in quality control. Food is alright.

A good spot for a quick lunch but certainly not a destination worthy of a special trip. The place has a cafeteria feel to it as you order your meal at the first register and then work your way down the "line". Gives it a "Subway" feel except your make all your choices at the first register and then, for some reason, walk down and wait in line to pay at a second register. Meanwhile, everyone is scrambling to get a table at this very busy spot. No need to be polite. First come first serve. The Pasadena soccer mom will have no hesitation saving a seat before they order so go for it. The kale salad and potatoes are excellent. Good selection of proteins from fish to chicken. Certainly didn't feel any "healthier" than other places or subway for that matter. In the end, you get a good, full meal for a reasonable price. Enjoy and get that table! read more

This review is for this location, as opposed to tender greens as a whole. I absolutely love tender greens! This location, however, routinely underwhelms me. It's OK in a pinch, but almost every time I get a salad here, at least one or two items are left out of it and I have to go and ask for them (they are never out of the items, they are just forgotten). Also one nitpicky thing, but the food is not plated well. Normally I would not care, but for a $14 salad? At least try to make it look nice! Just my 2 cents. read more

Always a hit. Nice fresh healthy food. I love the simple arugula salad with either the beef or fried chicken which isn't greasy, just tasty. 4.5 Second time at tender greens and I got the same thing as I did the first time - happy vegan salad with a side of seared tuna. The tuna was perfect and all of the grains were delish! So unique and flavorful. I think the bulgar was my favorite. Half a star off because it was pricey for lunch. Good size portions though, so I'll save half for dinner. This is a restaurant focusing on quality food ingredients (local/organic/etc.), that is part of a small California chain. I am really focused on what I would call "non-toxic eating" and everything that I tried at this restaurant was good quality and enjoyable. I thought the prices were a little expensive even compared to other restaurants of this type, but then again, it is the L.A. area and so everything is a little bit more expensive there than in many places. I am hoping that restaurants of this type are successful and that more of them open in other places, since there are still many places in this country where it is impossible to get a quality meal of this type. read more

I am writing this review because of the level of customer service I received from an employee named Marco. I just got my plate of food and I must of had a look of disdain because Marco approached me and asked if everything was okay. I told him that my order looked like it was missing something. He took my receipt and uncovered that my order was not taken correctly and the person who took it put 2 sides of seasoned veggies instead of the Romaine Hearts salad I requested. Despite that Marco got me a separate plate of the salad I ordered. His genuine care and follow through made me so impressed that I had to write this review on Yelp. The food was delicious! Haven't been to Tender Greens for about 2 years due to moving out of the area but this experience really made me appreciate it again. read more

Not sure what happened, but portions ridiculously small! This is the little big plate for kids which used to be just the right size. No kid over the age of 3 will fill up on this. There are 5 green beans and a piece of zucchini... Also the new to go containers have these horrible grooves that your food and forks get stuck in. It's a chore to eat. read more

I have been here before, and remembered liking it. Unfortunately, that was NOT my experience last night. The menu looks good. Something for everyone. The art is weird and kinda creepy, which I like. The other decor is cold and sterile. We're unsure of the concept here. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CASH. There is a saying, Cash is KING. I only use cash, but my friends didn't want to go elsewhere, so they had to pay. We make our decisions and step to the counter to order. For some reason, we can only place part of our order here. I am already over it by this time. We step down the line and order the rest of our food and beers. NO BEER. This is where I see a CASH tip jar. WTH, You expect us to pay with cards and tip with cash, NO. This is a flaw that ONLY hurts the employees. No way am I going to be penalized by having to use a card then tip in cash. I work in a tipping industry so I know it is important. Lucky for them my friend had small bills for a tip. The mushroom 'TOTS' aren't 'TOTS' at all. They are simply battered and fried mushrooms. Bland and boring. My 'Avocado' toast isn't 'Avocado' toast, but, guacamole on toast. for $8.50, they could have used a half an avocado and still made a profit. *As we are walking down the line, I see that the Fried Chicken is pre-fried and sitting at room temperature. We asked for a slice of cake, that never came. I notice that there are about 1 employee per every 2 or 3 customers. Not that busy for a Friday night. Maybe if they were accepting Cash, they would have more business. Not sure if we paid for it. The food, was not BAD, But pretty sure I won't come here again due to all the weirdness. After driving out to Palm Springs and back it was time for dinner and a play! I picked up my friend at Union Station and drove up to Pasadena. After parking we walked around looking for a good option for dinner. Tender Greens was it. SERVICE: Stand in line, order & pay at the counter, then pick up your tray at the other end after they assemble your meal in front of you. The staff was quite friendly (not hard on the eyes either) and someone came by the table a few times to refill beverages. FOOD: While the majority of the menu is salad options, they have regular entrees as well. My friend and I both opted for salads. I had the Fried Chicken Salad ($11) and a bowl of the Rustic Chicken Soup ($4). Sorry no photos this time, dead battery . The salad had romaine, butter lettuce, cucumber, radish and a wonderfully light dill dressing. It had 2 good size pieces of buttermilk fried chicken next to the greens. The breading was wonderfully light and the chicken super tender. A very delicious salad! The chicken soup was hearty with a wonderful depth of flavor, so delicious too! OVERALL: A nice, comfortable atmosphere and very tasty meal for a reasonable price. What more could you ask for? Plus it's right around the corner from the Pasadena Playhouse. Came by to pick up dinner on the way to a show, and tried out the chicken soup and chocolate cake. Taking in a deep breath with an O face and... "OMG OMG ... MMMMMMMMMM I got the last one, I got the last one, nan nee na nee naaaa neee!" That's what was going on in my head when I took my first bite of the chocolate cake! It was soooo moist and decadent.. :D I haven't had such a good piece of cake in a long time. SOOO Delish!!!!!! The cake itself was so rich and moist, it just crumbled and the frosting was not overwhelming but still very creamy and yummy it tasted like dark choc!! I know all about the cupcake craziness right now, but this is one morsel of cake that is better than any cupcake I've had period. That cake was gone in less than 2 minutes! MMM I want more.... Ok, back to the soup that I'm glad I had before I had the cake, hehe. The chicken soup was very fragrant and packed full of veggies & big chunks of chicken. Tried this place out yesterday. Got a phone order in, and ordered the damn thang. I got myself the Chicken cobb salad. It has this tomato tarragon dressing, which didn't sound too appealing to me..but what the heck, I gave it a try. Plus, the other dressing options didn't sound too good to me. I asked the gal on the phone what the flavor was like, she said creamy. I said, "like ranch?" and she said, "yes, kind of." Also, since they had blue cheese crumbles on it, I had it replaced with a different cheese. (They have many different options.) Bf ordered the Thai Shrimp. I didn't go inside, but bf said it was pretty nice. They have an organic beer as well. Oh geez, basically the same thing as regular beer no? Lol. We also ordered their chicken soup thang. I'm liking this restaurant concept. This is very similar to Urban Plates (I don't know which came first) and Lemonade. I like that I can go in, pick from a few delicious choices and sit down and eat. Easy, fast, and yummy. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and the romaine heart salad. The portion is pretty large and it was actually the perfect amount after I split it with the roomie. The fried chicken was white meat, but still relatively moist and very crunchy on the outside! It got the stamp of approval from our Southern friend. The only nit-picky thing is that the salad was a bit overdressed with the caeser dressing. I liked the agua fresca okay, but it wasn't very flavorful, in fact, I'm not sure what the flavor was (forgot to ask). read more

No MOP for Tendcer Greens. A nice cafeteria serving small portions of proteins ( meat or fish) and a generous portion of vegetables. Some of the salads are more elaborate than others. The portions are small except for the sandwiches -The bread is filling. Some salads fill like a bunch of raw ingredients out of a plastic bag have been dropped on a plate with no work done by a kitchen. A little sad. My go-to place when I need comfort food. Albacore, mashed potatoes, salad with tarragon dressing. I could totally eat it right now, and it's 7am in the morning. Minor Quibbles: ~Their definition of "rare" is "gelatinous," so when they warn you that the tuna is rare, take heed. ~Way too crowded during peak hours. As in, not even a place to sit alone at the counter on a Saturday at 7:30pm! (um, if you didn't catch the subtle hint to "friend" request me, you aren't paying attention.) ~What's with all the baby strollers? I mean, it's like an infant obstacle course up in this place, yo! Redemption: ~There's always at least TWO guys behind the counter I want to just leap over the sneeze guard and ravage. And no, not just because they're serving mashed potatoes. Okay, well, maybe a little. ~Their aguas fescas are usually pretty amazing. (Although, really? "Aguas frescas?" This is going to be a subtle but important update to my prior review. While, I generally enjoy the flavor of their items... Most recently tasting a lamb plate, fishernan's soup, roasted root veggies (always my favorite, though the brussels sprouts usually come a close second), the harvest salad, the backyard steak plates, etc. I seem to come back regularly with my family. Yes, coming here with 4 or more people seems to be the issue. One would hope, that with the more customers you bring in, the courtesy of the staff would increase. However the downgrade in stars results from the constant almost reproach that the staff provides when, as usual, they forget an item or two from our order (yes, usually multiple items... tonight it was a soup and the wrong side salad, previously it's been similar problems). I've even had them forget dressing on the salad. The problem comes in the form of trying to correct their error. They do not abide by the "customer is always right" mantra. The one time that sticks out in my mind is coming with several people, TG's machine rejected one perfectly fine credit card, then another, then mine, and the cashier said, "well it must be your cards." That's a brash statement, when simple odds would tell you otherwise. She would not ask for help or wait to reset the system. What she did was ask for another form of payment. Ok, fine, that's acceptable, but without the attitude. It seemed like their problem in their system made us an inconvenience to them! Their attitude must change or I will stop coming. Or at least feel less inclined to agree to come. read more

I got the Mediterranean salad and added chicken and the chicken was dry and the salad was small and wasn't mixed well. The Mac N Cheese was SMALL for the price. If it were $3, I'd get it but $5... What can I say? I love this place. It's not often my boyfriend wants a salad, but he's been the one who keeps suggesting we eat here, so you know that's a good sign. It's got something for everyone: the carnivore, the omnivore, the vegetarian, and even the elusive vegan. I have yet to try something on the menu I didn't like, and portions are generous. The mint lemonade is excellent, as is the watermelon agua fresca. The bf enjoys their brews, and they're always willing to let you sample before you buy. The service is always terrific and friendly. Last time, the bf ordered the fried chicken salad (sorta defeats the point of ordering a salad, no?) and while the chicken was juicy and delicious, it was a bit disappointing to see only two small nuggets of chicken. He didn't say anything kept on eating anyway, and a few minutes later, a server came out with a plate of fresh fried chicken because they knew the salad didn't have enough. That deserves a thumbs up in my book. P.S. the garlic bread crisp they serve with all of their orders is AWESOME. I can't get enough. Chances are, if I eat with you here, I will steal yours. Not sure what happened with this place, but it has totally changed in the last few months. I went in the other day in the afternoon. Place was pretty empty yet the tables were filthy. Employees sitting on their break eating lunch with the customers. AC was barely working. An employee said they had no control over it. Umm. Ok. I get the same thing every single time I'm in here. Albacore Salad. My portion was half the size I normally receive. This salad is Albacore and lettuce. That's it. So I paid a ton for a few tiny slices of Albacore. Was given a glass of water with something floating in it. Lady behind the counter went into the kitchen to get me a new glass. They usually get this from the front. So no I will not be drinking that water. Point of the story -- overpriced with small portion, and dirty tables. I thought the staff was nice, but will not be returning to this location. read more

Love love Tender greens. Been a fan since they first opened in Culver City, & was super excited that there was one walking distance from my home. Been coming here, on average monthly, for the yummy chicken & steak plates. The protein choices are all solid. Mashed potatoes perfect. Simple salads are all spot on, & I actually enjoy them more than the fancier salad options. Veggies sides, I have such a hard time deciding.. Rainbow carrots, or yellow squash, or zucchini.. Actually, I'd say the cauliflower is the best. Can't forget a side of Mac n cheese, that they put together when ordered & topped with a crunchy bread topping. My favorite soup is the tomato, & has been my savior whenever I get sick. For drinks, don't miss the agua fresca cuz it's seriously drinking a watermelon. Pretty obvious I'm a tender green fan. Got my husband hooked, and even my friends that visit are now insisting on eating here. I gotta hand it to this location for keeping the line moving, tables clean, & validating parking. Plus, the folks here are super nice. And honest. Just today, I left my phone behind. They safely stored it, & when I figure it out that I lost it at tender green. Everyone raves about Tender Greens, but, at least from my experience, I'm not a fan. I've been to this Pasadena location 4 times already, got the Tuna salad, quinoa salad, pulled pork sandwich, and forgot what I got the first time. As for the salads, the tuna was dry and flavorless, the quinoa overpriced and unsatisfying, and all the salads, entree or side, were too heavily doused in dressing. Not to mention that the greens for the salads appear as if they had been pre-mixed and sitting there for over an hour due to their dull wilted appearance. As for the sandwiches, it appears your only bread option is a giant ciabatta bread. Personally, I don't like big breads (and I cannot lie), because it makes the sandwich so dry. Even though the pulled pork was braised, it still tasted dry, add a ciabatta bread to the mix and you can barely eat the sandwich without 2 glasses of water. I know that Tender Greens is supposed to all natural and locally sourced but I still think it's really expensive for what it is. The sandwiches are mostly bread and the lettuce to protein ratio in the salad is pathetic (though the ratio might be what is recommended by the food pyramid). And, yes, it is INSANELY packed during lunch time. The line is out the door everyday. All the office employees (including myself) that work in the surrouding area go to Tender Greens. I do like their chocolate chip cookies though. read more

A wolf in sheep's clothing?.......... OR ...... A kinder gentler wolf? THAT my dear reader IS the question. The question is NOT are they or are they not a wolf? Some might argue, and with many a good reason that they are a sheep in wolf's clothing - an analogy I for one was hoping to believe, and in fact believed until I arrived and found a certain fare obsequiously missing from the menu. Although it is hard to tell on it's face, Tender Greens has it's true philosophy pinned on it's tender green sleeves. It is boldly stated yet professionally understated. **"Go's aways hippies, we don't want your dreadlock tofu eatin' funky armpit bearin types around heres!"** However of course they don't SAY that. It's just that, if you actually wanted to survive on the sustenance at one of TG (it's a lot better than Friday"s) chains, you would come up empty handed. If you somehow were forced to make a squeamish compromise (say you were stranded in there due to an earthquake with no choice but to stray into animal protein territory for survival) you would be forced to return to the wood and live out your fantasy of being a bear foraging for a raw fish on a crystal springs lake somewhere in the high mountain chaparral - a melting snow pack above you. Trust me, it won't be so bad sinking your incisors into that quickly seared and plated, slightly chewy chunk of salmon, especially if you keep in mind that the sky is clear and no one got "too" hurt. If you are a vegetarian TG's is a place you can get along. You can make it. A nice tender salad with a surprise squash. A meat free soup. A fancy drink. Oh, they'll make nice and appeal to your statistically probable aversion to pesticides and animal cruelty. They kill kindly and support local growers such as the revered Weiser Farms, popular for it's fantastic produce at farmers markets such as the one in Pasadena where I would visit their stand bi monthly for a fix of their magical summer melons. Their melons and potatoes are legendary and people come from miles around for a bag or two or three to take home, cut up and enjoy in guilt free rapture. I applaud the place for the ease with which it juggles cozy intimacy and cafeteria queues. It's warm wood lighting is playful and inviting. It is a pioneering establishment with a creative menu. However the refreshing watermelon soup I was expecting tasted like cough syrup, and my nearly raw fish was bouncy between the teeth and a bit of a chore to eat. My dining partners mashed potatoes looked swell and would have been if they had not been clobbered with salt. We had to wait for our drinks, it was pricey, salty, and there is no vegetarian protein available. A clear line in the sand. However, for the carbon footprint, and for a place to satisfy the light healthy eater and the meat and potatoes guy as well, TG's is eager to please. it would be nice to see more establishments taking steps towards environmental and ethical responsibility. All right. So, I've finally made a second trip, and found that a different plate order was a definite upturn. I went with the popular Backyard Marinated Steak hot plate and was satisfied with portion, freshness, and taste. Coupled with a mint lemonade, I was content with this dinner option. I also managed to get here prior to the ridiculous dinner rush. Definitely an easier and more pleasant dining experience if you avoid the rush times. NOTE: When I say I was satisfied with the portion, I mean that I was satisfied that it was neither too small nor too huge. Just right. I will still never order the Salt and Pepper Chicken just because I don't want to deal with that crap again. The weirdest complaint I have this time is the incredible HEFT of the damn trays. Are you trying to discriminate against the weak-wristed? What gives? Granted, I am not weak-wristed, but have some consideration for those with carpal tunnel. Granted, I don't have carpel tunnel, but you get what I'm saying. Right? Also, let's try to put some reflectors on those stairs. I saw one person half-stumble and another person full-on nearly break themselves on those stairs that lead out the side. Not safe. Avoid the lunch and dinner rush. Get the steak. Their meatloaf special sounded good, I would try that next time I see it up. read more

I probably average one visit per week and Love Tender Greens. Good food at a very reasonable price. Also using their app always get a discount of some sort. Everyone is always so polite and willing to accommodate certain items for dietary restrictions. Oh ad the person that is in charge of the orders ROCK, they are all over it! Today I tried their November special Holiday Steak and it was delicious, better than steak and frites. I think December should be Holiday Chicken with same sides but chicken could have a reduced pomegranate sauce. read more

The Tender Greens in Pasadena is insane during lunchtime. I waited in line for over 20 minutes and almost didn't have time to eat my food. I like the concept of Tender Greens and enjoyed their salad. I tried their signature harvest salad and all ingredients were fresh and delicious. The only problem is that the portion is very small, especially for the price. I felt a little ripped off. The ordering system is a huge mess. They didn't know which order belonged to whom and couldn't figure out whose sides, drinks, desserts they were. Everyone had to correct them at least twice on their order, including mine. I had my order to go and there was forks or napkins in my bag. I had to go back and ask for it. Honestly, this spot is so much better than Lemonade for many reasons. 1. Less complicated menu 2. Bigger portions 3. Cute interior and great service! Right when you walk in, you are greeted by an enormous menu that gives you the selection of salad (on the left), or pick a meat and put that in a sandwich or on a plate. Simple as that, instead of trying to stand at Lemonade trying to figure out how exactly to order. The sandwich and plates comes with a side house salad, but the salad comes with a piece of toasted baguette, making the portions extremely filling. I ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad (I know, typical), but this was tossed to perfection with just the right amount of chicken pieces and dressing. As a fan of chinese chicken salad, and having tried over a dozen, I gotta say, this was pretty top notch. I also tried my friends ahi tuna salad, which I wasn't really a fan of, since it was more of a house salad with ahi tuna plated on top, and the Cobb Salad, this was extremely delicious also if you are a fan of ranch dressing, and I have to say, all their salads are seriously tailored and crafted with detail, but that's how it should be. If you are going to sell mainly salads, which some people consider as rabbit's food, you really have to find a way to make it taste and worth $11. Their desserts also looked sooo good.... red velvet brownie, cupcakes, and cookies. I will no doubt be coming back to try some other tasty items again soon! read more

We go along the line and see fried chicken and beef. - I ordered the chipotle chicken and I get 4 slices. FOUR!? (While I went to wash my hand, hubby said someone asked for more beef slices because it was so puny.) - The chicken is soo bland that I need abundant amounts of their hot sauce. - The tuna in the tuna nicoise was flavorless. - Wait the whole salad lacked sufficient dressing to make the salad tasty. Maybe some people like the taste of raw greens. I've tried and I do not like it. Here are the things that made it okay, I guess. First of all 12 bucks for a salad is pushing it. Then I'm served a greasy, salty piece of of thigh meat on wilted greens. I remained optimistic threw on the water wings and swam through the dressing to my salad. Gross. This place is about as healthy as a gun shot. I admit, I love the idea of healthy gourmet food. Especially, when it's made to order like Tender Greens. Ordered the Happy Vegan platter which essentially has four different "sides" to try along with a bed of fresh greens. The hummus was good, the greens were fresh...everything was pretty tasty on the platter and really filling. However, there definitely was a sense of monotony in the platter where everything melded into one another and tasted the same and didn't exactly leave me wanting any more. I do like the location .. super convenient.. located close to 24 hour fitness and I do love their free drink re-fill policy! read more

i used to live in the palms area near culver city. oh, how i miss tender greens and FO (father's office). heard that tender greens opened in pasadena a month ago. it's bigger than the culver city location. there is seating inside and outside. same menu, same quality and taste of food. this time, i had the steak plate with spinach salad. i like the steak strips medium rare seasoned just right. the spinach salad was tossed with a light viniagrette. my fav part of the salad was the crunchy hazelnuts!! Mmm.. the plate also comes a slice of crostini-like toast with a bed of mashed potatoes...a bit buttery for my taste but still good. my brother said that the chicken looked dry but when he tasted his plate, it was juicy and flavorful. i saw the look on his face when he was watching them prepare it so i was just waiting for him to be pleasantly surprised. hubby ordered a butter lettuce which he loved since he and i were going to share my plate also. think it will be a regular lunch spot for him since all he has to do is walk over. tender greens...open more locations please!! we love you.. read more

Here's a restaurant that will see many more visits from this yelper! Tender Greens is a great healthy alternate to a lot of restaurants offering a great assortment of salads and entrees. I can't speak for their dressings and how healthy they are, but the ingredients for their salads are certainly fresh and their chicken and steak are excellent. On my first visit, I enjoyed the Chinese Chicken salad. I especially chose this to see if it would still be flavorful and similar to other Chinese Chicken salads I've hand and this version exceeded my expectations. The chicken was excellent, the salad was immensley flavorful and the ingredients were perfect. I would only add mandarin slices which would make the salad perfect. Everyone else I dined with loved their food and the mac and cheese is great for the kids. A couple more options for kids would be ideal. The concept for the restaurant is also great. Order your food, watch them make it, pay for it, and then have a seat. No waiting for servers to come and then wondering if they put your order in etc. The dining area is comfortable with lots of wood, browns, and greens. Completely sets the tone for the the food. I even liked my fellow diners. This place attracts a certain type of crowd. Like I said, I'll be back and will have no problem recommending Tender Greens to others. I immensely enjoyed Tender Greens. Everything was really fresh and really delicious. They get a bit crowded at lunch time but that is to be expected. The menu is pretty simple and the food is what you would consider eating clean. I ordered some sort of chicken salad and it was awesome. Great grilled chicken, tender greens :), that were also fresh with a light olive oil drizzle and a bit of spice. I was able to watch my entire order get assembled thorough the cool clear glass that had to the kitchen prep area. Food came out great and had a wonderful presentation. The place itself was hip, modern and cool. Had a lot of wood an metal and I think concrete so a bit modern industrial. Cool place. I would definitely go back to eat there again. read more

Been to Tender Greens like a couple times (different locations but honestly same shit) and I am down with the tuna nicoise. I always feel so fancy when I order it. Tuna. Nee. Swah~. Fancy. It's a big, fluffy salad packed with crisp greens (and purples), green beans, tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, capers, quail egg (although I didn't get a quail egg last time hmph), and olives (yech) tossed in some sort of vinaigrette and topped with slices of medium rare tuna and a side of buttered toast. It's so good! Very refreshing and light, but also packed with flavor. Also tried my friend's fried chicken and it is TASTY! And lastly, I also tried the watermelon agua fresca MMMMMMMMMMMMMM it's soooooo nice and fruity. Not too sweet, just perfect. It's a great summer drink, very refreshing. This particular location has great service. Super friendly and super quick! My friend and I didn't have to ask for to-go cups or refills. Everyone was super smiley and nice. I like it. read more

I use to come to this location frequently but unfortunately after tonight's meal I will not be returning. The portion size seems to be a lot smaller than I remember. I got three very small slice of what was meant to be Chipotle BBQ chicken, it was cold and I did not taste any Chipotle or BBQ anything. My grilled veggies were also under cooked, no caramelization here, only raw and under cooked veggies, as was the toast. There are other restaurants in the area who quality of food outshine Tender Green's and the pricing is similar I will be checking them out from now on. read more
