I was planning on trying their yellow or green curry beef when I was told Tee Jay had some "DUCK", well that was an easy choice! Duck it is in red curry, I think yellow curry would have worked too but the red curry was a better decision, I'll try it with their yellow curry another time. This dish is not on their menu but I did talk with Tee Jay about using duck for their curry dishes and he agreed that could be a future possibility. Well the future possibility is here. This was a boneless dish which I did not expect, I was expecting bones. This really made a different dish than what I was envisioning. I've never enjoyed duck that was so easy to eat. Since this is not on the menu I would have you contact Tee Jay to insure he has it prepared since the duck has to be roasted first and he may not have it available all the time. This is a great off menu item if you want to get into something different and well worth your consideration, I certainly would ask for this whenever Tee Jay has duck available. read more

Tee Jay's is a Carson City institution. I have been eating from Tee Jay since his farmers market days, but he has been in this location inside the Cactus Jacks casino for many years now. I can't believe I have never written a review. Specializing in Indonesian food with a western twist, Tee Jay is serving up great noodle dishes, burgers, cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and one of my new favorites, Loco Moco! The Krakatoa cheesesteak is one of my favorites. Thin-cut steak, cheese, and if you like spicy, it's even better! The loco moco is what I tried most recently, and I thought the portion size was great for the price. The classic noodle dishes like pad thai and the curries are also bomb. The ambiance here isn't the best since it's located on a casino floor; however, the classic counter diner has a special ambiance in and of itself. I almost always get food to-go from here. Tee Jay is always working at this place with a few assistants, and they are a truly kind and caring staff, wanting to make the best food for their guests. Staying in town for a snow trip and looking for places to eat and while scrolling this place statistically stands out among the rest. Curious, I urged my friends to come with me and honestly it was the best decision of our trip. We were a bit intimidated by the location, a countertop set up nested in the middle of a casino. The cigarette smell isn't noticeable at the counter, and Chuck and TJ are just amazing. Since everything is just at the counter, the service is super amazing and you can watch them prepare your food in the spot. Chuck gave us an amazing intro into Indonesian culture and how the food scene evolved over the past years. We ordered the pot roast, nasi goreng, and red curry. All dishes were absolutely stellar. The food was made with heart and the conversation with Chuck was super fun. What a great experience at Tee Jay's! We had a great time chatting with Chuck about the restaurant and the food. He is incredibly knowledgeable and was a pleasure speaking with. We had stopped into Tee Jay's as part of my quest to get a hot dog in every state capital in the US. Tee Jay's was our Carson City stop. It's located inside the casino so don't expect to see a sign on the street. Head on in to the well-lit counter restaurant in the corner. Be sure to watch their hours so you don't catch them during the break between meals. We were a few minutes early for dinner but Chuck waved us over and got us started. So much of the menu looked great but, again, we were their for hot dogs and, in particular, their famous, legendary Rendang Dawg. It was topped with a delicious rendang steak curry that was super flavorful. Then topped with a pickled cucumber dressing (achar) and then crunchy fried onions. Chuck recommended using a fork and knife and, after the first few bites, you kinda have to because the toppings are just overflowing. The bun and dog itself are big too. I would love to return to Tee Jay's and just sit and order and sample so many things. Hopefully I have that opportunity! read more

Believe the hype this place is legit. It's tucked away inside a casino, but you'll find it. Everyone behind the counter was very helpful. If you're not familiar with Indonesian cuisine they'll walk you through it. The man working the grill noticed I ordered tofu and checked into make sure any dietary restrictions were covered, I don't have any but it was a nice touch. He also made sure the spice level was what I wanted ahead of time. I can do spicy, but probably not Indo spicy, so he kept it within my limits. I got the lumpia and tofu/egg/rice entree whose name I cannot remember. Absolutely delicious. No qualifiers like "for Carson city" or "for a casino". It was really great. They also made their own (very) hot sauce and riff on Chinese mustard. Both great. Way more than I could finish so they boxed it up beautifully. Casinos don't bother me, but I don't love being around smoke. You can always get takeout though. My husband and I shared: - Indo Burrito - Krakatoa Cheese Steak - Fried Banana & Coconut Ice Cream The Krakatoa Cheese Steak is one of the best things I've eaten this year. It was a mess, but you won't care with how good it tastes. We also loved the burrito and would happily try anything else on the menu. I was sad that the fried bananas came covered in chocolate sauce (not listed on the menu) because I really don't like chocolate. I ate around it as much as I could and they were still amazing. The Krakatoa cheesecake was absolutely delicious -- such complex, well-balanced flavors, and the unique sauce really elevated the dish. I also loved how it paired with the thinly sliced steak(cooked perfectly); everything felt thoughtfully seasoned. The cheesesteak with crispy fries was hands down my favorite item and something I'd definitely order again. The pad Thai was also great -- slightly sweet with nice hints of ginger that made it really enjoyable. What truly stood out, though, alongside the Krakatoa Cheesesteak, was the experience. Both co-owners, Teejay and Chuck, came by to talk with us and share the stories behind the dishes we ordered. You can genuinely tell the food is made with heart, soul, and intention. Teejay explained what makes Indonesian cuisine unique, which made the meal even more meaningful. Chuck also told us about their Moby Dick-inspired clam chowder -- I loved the generous amount of black pepper, though I think it could've used a bit more clams. My cousin did mention that she noticed a very noticeable cigarette smoke smell since the café is located in a casino, but it personally didn't bother me much. Based on Yelp posts and a TV spot about places to try I finally wrangled a lunch visit with my husband who normally avoids casinos, especially little old ones. But everything I've read and heard about TeeJays is spot on. I assume it was Chuck who greeted us and when we said we were rookies he gave us a way ndergul talk about Indonesia food and how it differs from Asian foods we are more accustomed to. I asked for whatever was the most typical street or home made taste and he directed us to a rice dish and a noodle dish. We had chicken in one and shrimp in the other. Both were delicious and so very distinctive from Thai and other Asian foods. I also tried a dry seasoning and a sauce...both were pretty hot but fresh and distinctive. Great food, quick service, and very friendly people. Relatively quiet today - especially for a Saturday - however, it was nice not to have to wait in a line or for a long time to get our food. We ordered the drunken noodles with tofu (spicy and oh so delicious!), fish and chips (really enjoyed the fish - for the first time - with malt vinegar and thoroughly enjoyed the tartar coleslaw), and pad Thai with chicken (left the plate very clean). Was also able to enjoy some shrimp chips (haven't had these in years)! I used to work in a Malaysian restaurant and miss the food so much, so I was thrilled to see Indonesian food! I don't feel like enough people are talking about this place! I just recently tried them for my first time a couple days ago and I already want to go back for more! I placed an online order for my lunch break and it was hot and ready when I swung by to grab it. The drunken noodles were phenomenal, perfectly seasoned and cooked well. You can tell they use fresh quality ingredients. I also ordered the lumpia and they were nice and crunchy on the outside and the veggies inside still had a good bite to them and not just mush. My gf and I, both from San Francisco, visited Carson City briefly on a Tahoe trip and were treated to easily the best Indonesian cuisine we've ever had - and at a counter-only cafe in a small casino, no less. The proprietor and co-chef, a friendly older gentleman, gave us a rundown of what to expect from Indonesian food in terms of ingredients and flavor profile, and then it was off to the races. I just tried one new thing I haven't had before at Tee Jays cafe, and that's the Cowboy Steak, modeled after the Cowboy Steak offered at Katie's Cafe inside the Carson Valley Inn. I gotta tell ya, this version here is way better! At Katie's, the "steak" is just a burger patty served with grilled onions and mushrooms with a brown gravy slathered over it. The Cowboy steak here is made of 2/3 pounds (10.5 oz.)of ground beef, mixed before cooking with onions and spices, cooked on the flat top and then covered in grilled onions and mushrooms and bell peppers with a spicy brown gravy over all that. This is one of those dishes that tastes way better than it looks. The beef is seared crispy and goes so well with the gravy and served with a generous amount of fries. I'd get this one again! So, you want to know about Tee Jay's corner Cafe. Well, I'm going to tell you about this little hidden gem. First off it is inside of a casino so if you're looking for a storefront don't. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke in the air you're probably don't want to go here either but if you could get past that the food will make you forget about everything else around you. I like to describe this place as a street food vendor with the hardtop facility. The food is absolutely amazing. They have little bit of something for everyone even you people with bland tongues. However, for the rest of us who like to travel to a foreign destination without having a bad expensive plane ticket, Just so we can try The amazing cuisine, this is the place to be. The service is absolutely amazing! The server will tell you about the cuisine itself and what differs and how they prepare stuff versus Thai food. You will not only leave full and satisfied but will also leave the little culinary knowledge as you should when enjoying good food. I have traveled to Carson City at least three times for work and every time I make it a point to go to Tee Jay's whether I'm there for 2 days or a week, I am going to get my Tee Jay's. I am pretty big on Thai food but the Indonesian twist on it and the different flavors that they use instead of tie makes it just as good. My only regret is that I didn't take any pictures for you yelpers. Sorry about that, once I saw the food my brain went to one reaction, and that was devour. So if you want some good food while in this town you can go trial expensive restaurants that they have around there or you can stop in at TJ's and get you some good cuisine for a good cost. One of the best kept secrets in all of Carson City is Tee Jays Corner! My wife and I have been to TJ's probably 30 times in the last year and a half. The food is incredibly delicious and consistent nowhere else in Carson City. Nice staff,. but...about 5:30 on Saturday night there were only 5 people eating. My friend ordered a hamburger with Mayo but was told they were out of mayo. Then he ordered a tossed salad with ranch dressing, but they were out of ranch. I ordered a chicken fried steak with gravy and was told they were out of gravy but I could have a chicken fied stead burger with onion rings on it, OKJ The owner gave us free Pepsi for our trouble.
