The saving grace was the wonderful lady who took the order in her stylish glasses so friendly and welcoming! And the fries were crunchy yet no Heinz tomato ketchup. The cakes at the entrance looked interesting. The Italian cookie was too sweet like dosing on spoonfuls of sugar. Salty and sweet a balance would have been nice. The raspberry center got stuck to the parchment paper bag. The Tiramisu was ok, nothing to write home about let alone finish. The extra hot latte was as expected. Extra Hot and delivered the caffeine dose needed. Ambiance is nice. We would have liked to be regulars. For the cakes or honey. Enjoyed the cheddar jalapeno bagel (but they ran out of cream cheese?) and cute banana marzipan. The cherry turnover was fine but not memorable. But what I really enjoyed was a pre-made "express" sandwich that had ham, cheese, and buttered bread. Completely delicious, and something I'd come back for. Also, picked up a jar of Scandinavian Delights orange marmalade ... my absolute favorite brand and a nice surprise to find on sale here. Despite a fairly busy morning, everything was clean, and we were able to find a table without a problem. Nice atmosphere and plenty of parking nearby. A little surprised there wasn't a breakfast menu, but will have to come back and explore more of the lunch menu options like the tri-tip sandwich. read more

I sent my husband to this bakery earlier this week for their fresh baked blueberry & bran muffins. I ate the blueberry (dense, lacks flavor); but the honey bran was flattened on the top, gooey, it was burnt all the way around the edges and globs of honey were exposed. I could not believe he was actually charged money for that muffin. The whole lot should have been thrown out. I ended up with horrific abdominal pain in the hospital ER for better than four hours. I don't know what was wrong with those muffins but it's going to cost my family $2650 (out of pocket) for sampling them. read more

Little quaint sandwich shop with some fair prices! Girlfriend and I stopped by here for lunch, because we were surprised to see a Schats bakery outside of California. I love Eric Schats bakery out in Bishop, CA, but this is one here is a little different. They're still related, but operating at a smaller scale. We had shared the pastrami sandwich, and enjoyed it! Still have not eaten lunch here, but I keep going back for the desserts. The place is always busy, which is great. Food always looks amazing as I scan plates walking in. It always smells amazing inside and the fresh bread everywhere. The case of delicious sweets. We always get 1 slice of black out cake. They run out of this one often. I love cream puffs. My mom used to make these from scratch when I was growing up. These are as close as I have ever had from a bakery. I've never been fond of chocolate on my cream puffs, but they use like a ganache abd it is soo good. Need tp go try a lunch 1 day for sure. read more

Came here for lunch when we were on the way to Lake Tahoe. It was in Carson city located inside a plaza. There was also a cafe on the side and when you go further down there's a counter to order sandwiches and food. The staff was helpful when we were deciding between 2 sandwiches. Facility was clean and felt homey inside. We got the Reuben stacker which has pastrami and sauerkraut. We shared so it was the perfect amount since it was a bigger portion. Paul Schat's Bakery has been one of my longtime favorites and for good reason! Their sandwiches are amazing, fresh, hearty, and generously loaded with quality ingredients. The peanut brittle is absolutely bomb, and the chili or ham croissants are not only delicious but picture-perfect when they're not stacked and flattened. The chocolate croissants? Divine. Warm one up and pair it with one of their lattes or a fresh-squeezed orange juice; pure bliss. Their wedding cookies and chocolate-dipped macaroons are equally delicious, and the Easter bread is something special you can't really find anywhere else; soft, sweet, with dried fruit and that perfect glaze on top. The lovely young ladies who work there are always respectful, helpful, and consistently offer awesome customer service, it's clear they take pride in what they do, and it really adds to the warm, welcoming vibe of the place. My only complaint and reason for my 4 star is the ordering system. You can't pay over the phone or reserve something for same-day pickup, which makes it tough for anyone who works a standard 7:30-5 job. By the time you get there, the popular items are often sold out. I understand wanting to give walk-in customers a fair shot, but it'd be great if they offered a way to pre-purchase items without having to place a special order. I have never been a huge fan of Paul Schats in Carson City, but that's not to say that it's not a good spot. While I personally may not love it- I totally get the appeal and will give Schats credit where it's due! Schats has been a staple in Northern Nevada for a long time with locations all over the area. The Carson City location is located in the Carson Mall with its own exterior entrance- a plus for sure! There are many baked goods included breads, cookies, cakes, pies, and other sweet treats available to go. They also have coffee here and a few small tables to eat in if you fancy. There is also a full lunch menu and many items can be very tasty. I have had a few of the sandwiches and have enjoyed all of them, but nothing has blown my socks off. Most recently I enjoyed the chicken club and fries. The bacon and chicken were both well prepared and served on very nice, fresh bread. Sauced up, just how I like it. My issue with Schats is that I just don't love anything so much that I crave coming back. I have not had anything bad but nothing blows me away. I also think the pricing here is high. They charge extra for things like sweet potato fries- which is fine- but $6 extra!? You can add on some "assorted cookies" to your meal for $4 but it's just two OK tasting cookies. Maybe it's reasonable to some, but the pricing seems high to me. I get sticker shock nearly every time. I go back to Schats because the people are nice and everything is good most of the time. When I am with a group and someone suggests to eat here- I won't turn it down, but I think other bakeries and sandwich shops in the area are certainly comparable. Go and enjoy and keep an open mind. Came in after 3 p.m. with my kids, ordered lunch, then tried to buy bread and orange juice. I was told they didn't have any more orange juice, but I overheard the employee say in Spanish that she had already cleaned the machine. I could still see oranges in the juicer. I ordered a cinnamon roll, nut roll and 2 loaves of bread. The cinnamon roll was good tho not as gooey as I would have liked. The nut roll on the other hand was fantastic... it wasn't really gooey but the nut roll has so many nuts on it. Wow... epic!! The loaves of bread were great! Sourdough wasn't as sour as I like but it was fresh and delicious with only 5 ingredients. I also got the walnut and raisin bread also excellent!! This was my first time, I enjoy almond croissants so it's my go-to. You order from the counter, the lady was friendly and helpful. I also bought a bag of peanut brittle. If I could give this place negative stars I would. We ordered a burger and a chicken club and both were thrown together worst than McDonald's. The lettuce was inedible, wet and soggy. I may say, best bakery, breakfast, and lunch spot in Carson. We ordered cinnamon buns, ham and cheese croissant, and pizza bagel with cream cheese. All the bread we bought tasted freshly baked, moisted, and soft; the ham and cheese croissant was oozing with cheese, it was so good; the croissant was the best I had so far, the dough was soft and moist, the frosting tasted more cream cheese, and it's not too sweet, which I like. My coffee is really good. I had frosted mint mocha coffee, and what I liked about it was it wasn't too sweet, and I could taste the coffee. The service is efficient, and they are friendly. Hi, we been to the Carson City location several times. The pastries are delicious but my coffee order has always been wrong. I just don't get it, not sure if somebody is not paying attention but by the time it gets to the Barista it is always wrong. During our short visit to Carson City from Paul Schat's Bakery, we tried the Sheepherder Bread, almond pound cake, chocolate croissant, and several cookies. We enjoyed the bread...nice flavor...and the pound cake...delicious. The cookies were good but they were crispier than I prefer. If you like a crisp cookie, Paul has plenty of selections. On our next trip to Carson City, we will try more cookies and see if we can find some 'to die for'.
