Right off the bat, our waitress was snippy and rude. Not just with us either, I overheard her snapping at all the customers. Sadly they seemed to be short staffed when we arrived for brunch and waited 30 minutes for avocado toast and a sandwich. Also I ordered a side of eggs that were forgotten, but because the waitress never checked on us, we had to go up to the counter to let them know. The cafe itself is a cool, funky space with lots of art and pop cultural references as well as historical works decorating the tables and wall. Pretty disappointed with my recent trip into comma coffee. I grew up in the area and spent my childhood and teenage years at comma coffee. I moved away for about 12 years and just moved back and couldn't wait to show my husband this cute niche coffee shop. Unfortunately the staff were so rude!!!! I couldn't believe it. The ambiance is still cute. My coffee was good but our lattes were both $8 each. That is the most expensive latte I've ever bought in my entire life. When leaving we brought our cups back up to the bar and asked if that was a good place to leave them and the employee barely turned around and said "yup" and rolled her eyes. I am new to the Carson area, and thought I would try this local coffee shop one morning. I walked in and immediately the smell of patchouli hit my scenes. I ordered a brown sugar oat milk latte with cinnamon, which the brown sugar seemed to have been a detail that wasn't understood, as they directed me to the sugar in the raw packets. I was waiting and looking at their pastries, and decided to get 2 muffins. I had to say something 3 times before they heard me. The prices are reasonable for what I got, although my latte tasted like it was made with regular coffee and not expresso. Over all I felt like a muggle walking into diagon alley by mistake. The lighting was low and they had some kind of yoga music on that really was more meditative than up beat and chipper to start your day with. I felt like they were more focused on the repeat customers more than giving a fair and equitable experience to all. Im not really a one and done person, so I'm not really sure if I'd give it another go. read more

Saw this establishment on Yelp, and since I was in town, add them to my list of coffee haunts. I ordered the Hotscakes, (salute to Green Acres) and they were Delicious. First time here-what an adorable coffee shop! The interior is charming and eclectic and loved the menu selections. They have a large choice of fresh squeezed juice-the carrot apple ginger one was so good. There was a singer that was performing some of my favorite oldies-so fun while having brunch. I had the east coast bagel and lox-salmon was fresh and I chose an onion bagel which really added to the flavor and I would definitely order again. Service was excellent. Very nice place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy live music performances by local musicians. The menu and bakery racks were filled with yummy choices. We ordered omelets which are cooked by steam versus on a grill. I have never seen or heard of that method before, but the result was fantastic! The physical space is awesome. So much character, I'd love to make this my consistent hangout if I lived in Carson. Friendly staff and excellent service. my only advice is to stick to the menu. Storytime: We stopped at Comma Coffee before a ski trip to Mammoth Mountain, the behemoth of the West. Some friends met us at the coffee shop and they are from rural San Francisco (no hate against San Francisco, but this becomes important). Everyone had ordered something nice and was enjoying their food, but one person didn't get theirs yet. After a bit, the final dish came out and it was "interesting." Avocado toast, our friend explained that it wasn't on the menu, but she decided to order it anyway, for some insane reason. She gave the cook directions on how to make it, and there it was. A sliced tomato on top of smashed avocados with bread underneath and I guess some salad dressing was in there too, I really don't know. Everyone took turns trying a bite, and I can honestly say they sure tried to follow the girl's instructions. so let this be a lesson to all you travelers, making your way through humble Carson City, just order what's on the menu. A quiet but interesting cafe. Comma Coffee is in downtown Carson City. It has a simple menu with healthy items. Good place for someone who eats healthier and likes fun independent businesses. This is close to many casinos and hotels so it's convenient for travelers with the only problem being paying for parking, which if you're close you have to but if you park further away it's actually free. If you like quirky coffee shops, you'll for sure like coming here. It's a good place for sipping, eating light, or just hanging out. They have plenty of coffee and tea. A latte can be made with non dairy milk. It's about $5 for a large. There's only a few good options for vegetarians. A popular sandwich is the Veggi Tation. This is a pretty big wrap. It's about $15, which is quite a lot. This is a wrap that comes with a spread of cream cheese or hummus, topped with avocados, cucumbers, portobello mushrooms, red bell peppers, red onions, and spinach. It's good. The problem is it's too expensive for just a sandwich. Cool place but they close early. It must be boring in Carson City so maybe that's why they won't stay open. The service also can be slow and some others have mentioned rudeness but I personally haven't seen it yet. read more

My low stars are purely because of the service we received today. The younger gal with long black hair and maroon highlights was so rude and full of sass. Made us feel completely unwelcome. We walked in at 1:15pm. She handed us menus and told us to sit anywhere. We hadn't even opened the menus when she came up and asked what we wanted. We quickly came up with drinks off the top of our head, not even knowing if they had specials, and said we weren't ready on food. She came back with drinks and said "Anything else?" Like - duh - the menus are open, of course we're getting more. I said I wasn't ready and my husband asked if they had cinnamon rolls. She just responded yes. He said "Okay... can we start off with one of those please?" She responded with "Anything else?" I repeated that I wasn't ready. It was only until THEN that she informed us that the kitchen would close in ten minutes. "Oh shoot! We had no idea. Give me two more minutes and we'll be ready." She came back with the cinnamon roll and took our order. When we received our food, she proceeded to mean mug us the entire time we were eating. Every time I looked up and happen to make eye contact, she was sneering at me. She never pre-bussed our plates or checked in on us. When we went up to the front to pay she was short with us again. Our tab was $40-something dollars and my husband tipped her $5 - ONLY because it looked like they pooled tips in a big jar. If he hadn't noticed that, he would've tipped her $0. As we walked out I said "Thank you, have a good day!" She neither looked at me or responded even though I was a foot away from her. Probably pissed about the 11% tip. We walked out at 1:49pm. Google says they close at 2pm and there were still five other customers still inside, so I'm not sure why we received so much attitude. Totally unnecessary. As a server myself, there is an easy and kind way to inform a customer that you're about to close and that the kitchen closes even sooner. The way she treated us was unacceptable and, based off the other reviews about poor service recently, I'm surprised she still works there. The inside had fun decorations and the food was delicious. We got a coffee, latte, cinnamon roll (the frosting was cream cheese based and not too sweet - very good!), June's benedict (the pesto was amazing), and the quiche. The food was five star worthy. That girl, however, is why we'll never be back. read more

The service was so wholesome, they definitely took their time but that wasn't an issue because you can enjoy the company you're with or just enjoy the ambiance. Love the rosemary bagel with lox, east coast west cost or a bit of both. My hub said the latte was really good. My first time in I was surprised on how big it actually is. The aesthetic is my favorite, the fun pictures, artwork and skeletons. I love picking a new comfy chair to sit in every time I go. Every time I've gone in I've had great service. Artsy fartsy meets thrifting. The ambiance of this place was cute and cozy. The inside was nothing like I expected but I loved every part of it. The best thing about this city is the community and closeness. If you're not dining in, there is a convenient window to order from, but the inside is the gem. The service is the best part of this place. The food & drinks were also top tier. The eggs are steamed, using the coffee machine- so different but so fluffy and GREAT. I was in Carson City for work and my employer rented out the space for a continental breakfast banquet for 120 people. For this, Comma Coffee gave us ONE coffee carafe for 120 people. When it ran out (which was almost immediately), the employee suggested "try ordering coffee at the counter like a paying customer." Um, okay. About five of us got in line right away at the counter to order coffee. Keep in mind that we are now purchasing our own coffee, as if we had not already rented out the space and prepaid for catering (which included coffee for 120 people). I was third in line. There were three employees. Each employee skipped over me and took orders from the other people in line. I continued to wait at the counter, making eye contact with each employee, as one does when trying to place an order. Then, two other customers (not from our banquet) walked in from outside. They employees immediately served them, bypassing the growing line inside, telling them that, "Ugh, it's hard to serve real customers when we have a huge party in here." I stood at the counter in line, and each employee ignored me, serving the people behind and around me. Once I started counting, I counted that they served eight people after I had reached the front of the line. The difference? I am a person of color and the other people they were serving were all white folks. I told the employee that I had been passed over for the last time and would get my coffee elsewhere. I sat down at a table with some of my coworkers, including another woman of color. Moments later, the owner comes over and starts talking to my coworker, trying to take her order. Note: my coworker and I do NOT look anything alike other than the fact that we are both Asian. My coworker is confused, as she had been seated the entire time and had not been standing at the counter for fifteen minutes, as I had. So I ask the owner, "Do we all look the same to you?" To which she replies, "Actually, yes." Then, the owner goes on to justify the poor customer service/racism by saying that they are overwhelmed because of the banquet. Like, aren't you running a restaurant? I should also add that the breakfast pastries were either dry/stale or underbaked. They should not rent out their facility if they can't accommodate/serve food. The fact that we paid for coffee for 120 people and they literally provided us with ONE carafe was absurd. Perhaps they hoped they could then sell food to us at the counter in addition to the breakfast banquet we had already paid for? read more

I really dig the vibe at Comma Coffee. These days I'm all about the outdoor seating and they've got a good mix of tables and benches, plus a few armchairs too, all cool in the shade! This past weekend we picked up some drinks after the farmers market. I tried a nitro cold brew. Decent flavor but not as punchy as others. My kiddo likes the Italian soda. Friends said the blended chai was delicious. Can't really go wrong. I was impressed with the food my friend got. It was a nice scramble with toast and bacon. Stopped in here randomly while searching for a nice cup of coffee on a cold winter morning. What a wonderful coffee shop! I visitors know a weekday morning and there were about 10-15 people here, a mix of regulars who seemed to know each other along with newbies like me. First off, the atmosphere is perfect! Quaint, a little funky, and clearly historic. The building hails from the mid-1800s and smart money says there are ghosts adrift in the halls. :-) The breakfast menu was varied, desiring many egg dishes. I had the Spanish dish, which is there take on a breakfast burrito. Cooked perfectly and it came with homemade salsa too! I was eyeing the cinnamon rolls. Next time... OK let's get down to the important stuff. Coffee. I had my usual: americano black. It came piping hot and served in a funky mug. Love it! No paper cups at least while you dine in. The coffee had great flavor. Not burnt tasting or some weird fruity flavor. This is good coffee! If you are in the area, I highly recommend Comma Coffee. Worst service ever. I ordered a 12oz triple cappuccino with a Splenda. The barista argued with me, saying a cappuccino is in a 10oz cup with 2 shots. Don't argue with a customer, when they ask with details, they know what they want. She then "explained" that a cappuccino is 1/3 coffee, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 foam. She said in a 12oz cup there would be a lot of space in the cup. I tried to explain that with 3 shots of espresso, in a 12oz cup the ratio would work out. But no, the barista kept arguing with me. She finally made the cappuccino, but left out the Splenda. (It's better to put the sweetener in the coffee, then the foam instead of on top of the foam) I was pissed off when I went back to get the Splenda, most places would have remade the drink, but no, the barista just tossed the packet at me. I told them how rudely they were, and the barista started yelling at me. I originally ordered with a young lady who didn't understand what a cappuccino was. When I walked out, apparently she started crying. The barista said she had just started two days ago and was in training. I told her in my coffee shop, new employees were trained completely. Every one of them knew what the different drinks were and knew how to make them, before they were on the front line and attended to a customer. Do not go to this place. There are way more, better options for coffee in Carson City. Even Starbucks (yuck) is a better option than this place. read more
