I love Comma Coffee. I grew up going here when visiting my dad down in Carson City and it's definitely a great place to return to when I visit. The decor is fun and eclectic, representative of the quirkiness of Nevadans. Ample seating and incredible ambiance as a guitar teacher does a lesson in the back area and old bitties play Bunko. Or on some random night, catch live belly dancing and some students studying or playing board games. Staff are always chill and clearly take the time to know regulars names. Coffee and food are solid and affordable for the portion and quality. Parking immediately by the building can be limited depending on the time of day/year but a public lot is not too far. The owner June is incredibly self-righteous and just no. I won't get mean... but unaccountable people are dangerous! Now she's trying to market two AirBnB's under Comma Coffee's name? Weird and it goes to show she'll do anything for a dime. Also a concerning character trait and business practice... I had been dying to visit this coffee place for so long! I finally had time to go and boy was I disappointed. The atmosphere is eclectic and I loved that. But the variety of coffee is non-existent. I was surprised they didn't have more specialty coffee drinks to choose from. Secondly, the service was lacking badly. I was t greeted when I walked in and there wasn't anyone at the counter waiting. The 3 workers were behind the counter and one was training another gal. I finally got their attention and ordered my $7 drink. I asked if I could get it to go because I was on my lunch break and they said sure. However, they took another person's order who they mentioned was a frequent customer and began making his. Still, I waited. Then, the one trainer decided to show the other gal how to make a pot of coffee and still didn't make mine. I was waiting for 10 minutes before she even made my drink. I got a praline flavored coffee and it was super sweet and couldn't even taste the coffee in it. I told others about this experience and everyone has told me this place has really gone down hill. A buddy mentioned this place a couple times when I was craving coffee, I never went because I didn't know where it really was tbh. Craving both a bite and cup of coffee I decided to drag him along for a quick trip on a work break. The place is sort hidden around a couple other bigger restaurants but if you are looking for it you will see it. They had a daily special on their Mexican Mocha and having never tried a Mexican Mocha or any coffee there I figured why not. For the bite to eat, I choose their ham, egg, and cheese but instead of having it in a croissant I went with a Jalapeno bagel. It was delicious. I enjoy finding and helping good local places like this spot. It's really funky inside in a good way. I hopefully will have the time some other day to look around. Hands down my favorite coffee in Carson City! Every time I am driving through town or on the way to Tahoe..I try to make a stop here. The service is always excellent and the employees I've interacted with are always so friendly. Today we got an iced latte and iced mocha. Both excellent as always! I've never gotten food...but whatever I've seen come out of the kitchen looks amazing! They are set up as an outdoor take out window right now until 2pm. This place is just wonderful. Stopped in here for breakfast while on a road trip to Lake Tahoe and it was such a breath of fresh air. Super quirky and definitely unique, my only complaint is that this restaurant isn't in Los Angeles. The server was super sweet, the food was delicious (the bacon ughhh!!! Super cool place. We stayed in Carson city for our visit Tahoe. I worked from this cafe for a day. Good wifi, good coffee, good juices/smoothies and a decent food menu with tasteful interoir and good service located right in the heart of the city. I think this place checks everything. Last time I went there I arrived just as they were closing I came with my friend who was moving out of town and wanted to go there one last time. We got a dry nope we're closing response. Yes we arrived at closing time but they were not closed yet. It's not the fact that they refused to take our order that bothered me as much as the way the response was delivered. Pre-pandemic they frequently just closed at random times. It was always a disappointment to make dates with friends just to find out they are closed when we got there. I want to make this place a regular spot, I like the space, but they just make it hard to do that. The food is not special anyway but I like the drinks. Comma Coffee is the best coffee place in Carson City. I sometimes wish I lived in Carson just so I could go by more often. The staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is amazing! If you love things to look at you could be in here for hours. There are skeletons hanging from the ceiling.. as well as a piano, and artwork and photographs covering all the walls. The back seating room is really fun as well. Tons of books to look at and toys for the younger ones. Food is served hEre as well, but I haven't had a chance to have anything.. but I've heard good things. I do wish the price of lattes were a bit less. They charge a decent amount already, but with "specialty milks".. like almond (like I get) there is an additional charge. So sad about our experience this morning. The ambiance is super cute. I chose to build my bagel. You get a choice of 3 spreads: basil pesto, cream cheese or hummus. I chose the hummus and a few toppings. I got into the car and bit into my bagel to learn it tasted very strongly of basil pesto. We turned around because my body cannot process dairy. Cheese is a main ingredient in pesto. I wasn't rude when I went in, just stated that I ordered hummus and not the basil pesto. The woman who made my sandwich (appeared to be the owner), snapped at me 'it IS hummus'. I thought to myself 'ok, that really should be clarified on the menu'. I immediately followed up by asking 'Does it have dairy in it?', she looked at me like I was nuts and asking an outlandish question and replied with a curt 'no'. I mentioned 'ok, as long as it's not made like traditional pesto' and she just gave me a blank stare. So I left with my bagel and ate it with the confirmation from the owner that it didn't have dairy. Now I come here and I read reviews where it's stated that the basil pesto hummus DOES have cheese in it. Maybe they have changed the recipe... or maybe I was lied to because they didn't want to remake the bagel or lose money. Either way, the attitude of the owner was very disappointing. The girl at the front counter was very nice. Only time will tell if I end up on the toilet for the first day of my ski trip.... read more

What a great place! Hubby and I had to get out of the house! Cabin fever! So we headed south to Minden and saw the sights and grabbed lunch. We returned to Reno through Carson and discovered it was the wine walk. It was too early for wine but we spotted a coffee shop and knew this would be perfect on a cold rainy day. The place has a lot of real estate and the tables were full but found a spot in the corner. Hubby got a coffee and I splurged on a peppermint mocha which was delightful, not too sweet. There was a woman playing the piano and singing old 70s love songs. She was fantastic! I soon discovered that not only can one get great coffees but they serve beer and food too. And they were a stop on the wine walk so many folks we in and out. This is obviously a Carson hot spot and I look forward to my next visit. read more

I live in Reno, but I love driving down to Carson to enjoy Comma Coffee & to go to a few of my favorite shops. (Midtown Marketplace is the best!) Right when I walked in the door, a young man greeted me. Less than a minute after I sat down, this same kid greeted me with a menu. Already impressed, because good service is so rare these days, I asked his name. Samuel, he said. He was so attentive from the get go, I knew I wanted to write a Yelp review. Then, another woman, Tara, checked on me several times and was so personable and pleasant. She took the time to ask what I was reading and we talked books! I never needed a thing, because these 2 were always around making sure I was good, but not being crowding at all. There is definitely a balance! I have been in the service industry my whole life, and the employees this morning were top notch! I then went to tell the owner, June, how amazing these guys were and how impressed I was. She looked me right in the eye and thanked me. I LOVE the atmosphere in here, and the mimosas, with FRESH SQUEEZED OJ, were so so delicious. Bottomless for $12??!! How can you beat that? Coffee is fantastic, they are severely lacking in veggie and vegan options which could be vastly improved, very easily. This should be called COMA coffee because i'd rather me in a COMA than come back here. I attempted to eat lunch here with a friend. I had made something special at home for them as surprise and wanted to meet someplace we could just get a coffee or soda and relax while we ate. I arrived and pulled our food out of the bag and set it on the table. We went up to the counter and attempted to order two italian sodas. Rude employee responds with "we're out of club soda." Ok... an iced coffee and an iced tea were ordered. Rudely "to go?" For here. Moving on. We sit down and begin eating. The same employee drops our drinks off and says no outside food. Stop eating or leave. So we ask for to go cups "yeah fine, sure." I go to the counter to retrieve the cups, apologize for not knowing their policy and stand at the counter long enough to watch someone take money from a customer, walk to the back and pick up a raw chicken breast and put it on the panini press. The coffee was stale and the iced tea was water. I will NEVER go back... and i'm really glad I didn't try their food. I'm sure I would have recieved a free case of salmonella. To echo Davina's yelp, PLEASE TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES. Oh, and asking them to be friendly might be worth an extra seminar or two. read more

Those of you who know me, know I only give a 5 Star review for consistently great product and service. Comma Coffee has that every time I drop in. The coffee is fantastic and the pastries are average. While they are really tasty, I wish they were a little more fresh from the oven. It's just a small thing but I had to give an honest review. This is a great place to work and also just to have a nice visit with friends. It is a very comfy place that boasts intimate little niches and quiet spaces that are well stocked with soft chairs and coffee tables. Decor is best described as eclectic. Not out of hand or corporate in any sense. It seems like the owners poured their personality into decorating and their good sense into the products sold here. I'm talking great coffee. Stopped in for a quick cuppa joe with Right Brain in tow. I walked in and was thrown back to the coffee houses of the 60s. Eclectic, funky, quirky decor welcomes you to explore all the artsy, folky vignettes. Look at the photos. Cozy fireplace chat spots, hidden corners to tryst, seating is just about for anyone. Business, pleasure, apres ski. A very fun place. I was going crazy from the smell of soup being made but we were there for coffee, soup wouldn't be done for awhile. Other patrons said the food was amazing. The coffee is excellent, staff friendly and quick. Heard there was live music on certain days. Plan on coming back soon next trip to Carson City. I have been a patron of Comma Coffee for several years. It is my go to spot for a hangout with friends, coffee break with a book, and more commonly homework and study sessions. The complimentary WiFi is a nice feature. The atmosphere is one I can usually relax in. I enjoy the creativity displayed through the interior design, the local artwork, and on occasion live music. As of lately though the recent diminishment/renovations to the establishment has left it a bit dingy and worn out? It is no longer a fresh feeling environment. The food/beverage menu has a nice variety of fresh ingredients and flavorful choices. My personal favorite and recommended beverage for all my tea lovers out there is the Yerba Mate Latte. The Ultimate Creation is a favorite food dish and perfect to share due to its massive size. The overall cleanliness could use a pick me up. The floors were considerably messy, miscellaneous surfaces definitely had a layer or two of dust on them as well as some outside friends crawling around. At least four bugs had to be removed from the area we were seated in and the bathrooms needed to be restocked and cleaned as well. Quality of service has taken a noticeable plunge. The staff was not very interactive or friendly. Instead of paying attention to their customers, the employees behind the counter were far to involved in their personal conversations to care that we had been standing up at the counter waiting for assistance for several minutes even after making eye contact with us; they continued on with their conversation regardless. Resulting in having to interrupt them to request a simple water refill. The staff then portrayed a highly inconvenienced attitude afterward and unfriendly disposition up to the moment we left. It is unfortunate, I remember better days at this establishment. I'm not sure what has happened to incite such a drastic change but hopefully they pull it together soon. We stayed in an airbnb around the corner that is run by the owner and were super happy with the breakfast we got here. The bagels were amazing and filling and the service was great. The interior of Comma was whimsical with all kinds of weird and interesting things on the walls and ceilings. There is a ton of space and the whole coffee shop feels super homey. As we were making the drive back to the Bay, we decided to get some croissants, bagels, and cinnamon rolls for the road and they were super helpful in packing it up for us to take on the road. They also have an addictive old school game where you roll a marble that I played for like 30 minutes straight. All in all, a great coffee shop with a lot of culture that I could see myself spending a lot of time in if I lived in Carson City. read more

I was actually here a little over a week ago and it was the worst experience I've had, coffee wise, in Carson City. The prices were outrageous and the staff did not seem very knowledgeable. While the ambience was nice, it was very inconvenient to say the least. They also have a very strange policy regarding cards and cash that forces you to spend more money than you otherwise would have. I have a large problem with that. I always Make it a point to revisit and establishment after a bad experience. One bad visit is not enough to totally down a place. With colder weather coming I'm sure I'll be back. Ordered the west coast lox. They were out of avocado so substituted with hummus. Still very yummy. Also had a green tea honey lavender latte. Delicious! They have a mimosa bar special today so tried the grapefruit mimosa. It was not bad at all. More refreshing than normal OJ version. Would have given 5 stars, but they forgot my mimosa and I had to ask for it as well as not having avocado on hand. There are a fair amount of menu items that call for that, so wouldn't expect to be out, especially since I was here early in the morning. read more

Soooo good! I got the june egg Benedict and was very satisfied. Feels so light and fresh with all the greens and veggies on the dish. The iced honey lavender latte was also so flavorful. Such a nice breakfast spot, I always enjoy finding local spots like this versus chains. read more
