We stayed in an airbnb around the corner that is run by the owner and were super happy with the breakfast we got here. The bagels were amazing and filling and the service was great. The interior of Comma was whimsical with all kinds of weird and interesting things on the walls and ceilings. There is a ton of space and the whole coffee shop feels super homey. As we were making the drive back to the Bay, we decided to get some croissants, bagels, and cinnamon rolls for the road and they were super helpful in packing it up for us to take on the road. They also have an addictive old school game where you roll a marble that I played for like 30 minutes straight. All in all, a great coffee shop with a lot of culture that I could see myself spending a lot of time in if I lived in Carson City. read more

I was actually here a little over a week ago and it was the worst experience I've had, coffee wise, in Carson City. The prices were outrageous and the staff did not seem very knowledgeable. While the ambience was nice, it was very inconvenient to say the least. They also have a very strange policy regarding cards and cash that forces you to spend more money than you otherwise would have. I have a large problem with that. I always Make it a point to revisit and establishment after a bad experience. One bad visit is not enough to totally down a place. With colder weather coming I'm sure I'll be back. Ordered the west coast lox. They were out of avocado so substituted with hummus. Still very yummy. Also had a green tea honey lavender latte. Delicious! They have a mimosa bar special today so tried the grapefruit mimosa. It was not bad at all. More refreshing than normal OJ version. Would have given 5 stars, but they forgot my mimosa and I had to ask for it as well as not having avocado on hand. There are a fair amount of menu items that call for that, so wouldn't expect to be out, especially since I was here early in the morning. read more

My friends reccthis coffee shop for good reason, it hAs good food, great service and amazing atmosphere. I didn't see exactly what I wanted on menu, but they accommodated my request. I had a skinny vanilla latte, with splash of praline and it was delicious with toasted plain bagel and avocado. There were a several groups of hard core mahjong players. The food is ok. But the customer service is poor. I love the ambiance of the space. The live music is also a plus. But the way the wait staff talk to you is just bad. We went to Carson to visit family. We wanted something to eat so we stopped here. It was our first time. I ordered a turkey wrap which was good, not great. My daughter ordered hummus and veggies. My husband had the special of the day, a Blueberry Waffle. My son got eggs and an English muffin. My husband was still hungry so he went over to the counter and ordered a blueberry muffin. He asked to have it added to our bill. The waitress removed the muffin. We sat and waited about 15 -20 minutes for the muffin. Another waitress came by our table we asked her about the muffin. She said they were out of blueberry. We replied now but not when he ordered it. She went as far as walking over to the glass covered display and said nope no muffin. She came over and said we were wrong and there was no blueberry muffin her tone was very rude. Just then the other waitress showed up with said BLUEBERRY MUFFIN. The other waitress just walked away. I have never had a waitress treat me or my family as if we were stupid. I loved the ambiance but CUSTOMER SERVICE is not one of their attributes. read more

First time coming after the recent remodel. It looks very nice. Though the service was a bit wonky. After being seated with menus and water we were asked immediately what we wanted and we asked for a minute to look. we waited about 20/30 minutes for our waitress to come back and take our order. She came over and said "oh did you guys want to order something or are you good?" We only had a glass of water at this point... after we did order our food and finished eating it took about about the same amount of time to come ask if we needed anything else or if we were ready to pay. Overall pretty disappointing. Our waitress kept leaning down and talking to us in a extremely high pitched tone of voice as if we were children. Extremely condescending. Love coming here for breakfast, went tonight for dinner at 6:20 and they said they were closed e though yelp hours and google hours show them open until 8. read more

When it comes to grabbing a coffee in Carson City, you don't really have much choice - this place sits right on the main road and has a free public parking lot just over the road. The brewed coffee ist absolutely drinkable, but nothing extraordinary... the Sandwiches however are quite amazing! Large, filled with succulent meat and a slightly tangy sauce... very tasty experience. Seriously, that was one great road-side sandwich! On a more negative note, the staff was pretty inattentive and the whole place has a slightly dirty touch to it. Time for some pre-spring cleaning maybe? I was in the area without a car, so I was pleasantly surprised to have this option around 10:30 in the morning on a beautiful day. I ordered curbside, a Nitro Cold Brew and two muffins for later. Everything was delicious, especially the muffins. I highly recommend the banana nut muffin. The only downfall was delayed service. Their curbside window for orders and pickup was not busy, I was the only one standing at the window when a line formed behind me. It took probably five minutes for someone to acknowledge me and take my order. I was going to order another coffee for my partner- but decided against it because of the delay. After I ordered, it took quite a long time for my Nitro Cold Brew to be prepared (which I believe is prepared and just poured?). The barista said the two muffins will be right out- I confirmed I didn't need them heated and she acknowledged. I stepped aside to wait for my muffins and watched the same barista help two more customers in succession much faster than my cold brew was made. After two customers behind me had already received their coffee and left- someone else brought my two muffins out. If it wasn't such a nice day- not too hot standing out in the sun- I may have complained for such a long wait for premade items. read more

I really, truly try to remain positive on here. I'm not one to rant about a business. I'd honestly much rather leave it alone and not give it my money again. So with that being said, I honestly don't know how I'd rate my first experience at Comma Coffee, since it wasn't necessarily a positive one. Now, I'm not going to detail every little thing about my experience, because as I just got finished saying, I don't rant. But I'll give you a quick summary... The café hours are clearly posted on the door and on Yelp. They close at 8pm on Saturday nights. Tonight, we arrived at a little after 6:30pm. Also, the "open" sign was on. When we walked in, the two employees were already closing for the night. They were very clearly peeved that we came in and that we actually wanted service. Ten minutes of passive aggression later, we were more or less pressured out of the establishment with our two vanilla lattes and one chai - in to-go cups, of course. Literally, they turned off the "open" sign and bid us a nice night. After marveling over all that had transpired in the past ten minutes, we each took a sip of our drinks.....and they were less than wonderful. The lattes were just that - lattes. With no vanilla. And they were bitter as all heck. And the chai? It honestly tasted like something chemical. We didn't even finish them. So. I'll be back. Likely in the day this time. And I'm hoping I have a more stellar experience because I've heard stellar things about this place. I think that's pretty fair. read more

Although I joined my girl friends for some much needed fellowship, I didn't indulge in anything to eat or drink. My girlfriend ordered just avocado and lettuce, and there wasn't anything about this dish that was vibrant green. The avocado was old, and the lettuce was black around the edges. I later found out that this restaurant was closed in Jan. due to many Health Violations. I'm thinking they just don't care anymore, which is sad to see. I'll start off by saying that their muffins are outstanding. If you're nearby and a little peckish, please beeline for their bakery. That said, this spot is perfect if you are looking for a proverbial "third space" and don't mind spending a few extra bucks. The interior is super spacious, the decor is eclectic, the chairs are comfy and spread out around the space, and there's a clear "where everybody knows your name" vibe. The downside of those few extra bucks is that your bill reflects the vibe of the place more than the quality of the coffee. For me, the baseline of a coffee shop is defined by the coffee quality. I'm happy to pay a lil' bit more for a lil' bit better - however, when I discover that that lil' bit more leads to a self-serve station with stale drip, it's a bit of a bummer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It was also a little frustrating to wait at the register for service, give the team a few minutes, and then have to apologize for interrupting a chat to get service. C'mon, guys! I checked out their website, and the food looks pretty comprehensive and yummy. A telling point is that there are no prices listed on the menu. A tip about any place which doesn't list prices - if you have to ask, you can't afford it. This is absolutely one of my favorite holes in the wall in Carson City. It provides such a serene respite from the chaos underway across Carson Street. Oh, and the brews and grub are also quite impressive on their own. This time, I tried the egg casserole with pesto, spinach, and Swiss cheese. Yum! I usually saute spinach when incorporating it into my hot dish recipes. But in this case, the fresh spinach provided a crisp textural contrast that worked beautifully with the herby pesto sauce and the gooey melted cheese. And yes, the scrambled eggs themselves were cooked perfectly. And of course, what use is a coffee house if it doesn't serve good, quality, well brewed coffee & tea? The chai was among the best I've had in Northern Nevada. It may even rival the great Vegas coffee houses. read more
