Great coffee, cool funky environment, but minus 3 stars for, "No cards under $5," and for the b.s. story that explained why. It's 2017 - get with the times. Nobody walks around with cash anymore. A large coffee is $3.25. That's not cheap for coffee, so you can afford the processing fee. Everyone else can. read more

Good coffee, GREAT atmosphere! Haven't had much food, but what I've had was phenomenal - one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in Carson City. The staff has been great to me, and I love that they have fresh veggie/fruit juices! Not just super-sweet fruity smoothie things that other "juice" places have (although they have that stuff, too, if that's what you want). They have a really extensive menu, seem to have pretty much something for everyone. Everything I tasted for lunch today (including all veggies) was super-fresh, which made it all even more delicious - and doesn't always happen at many places in CC, in the mid of winter. This has also proved to be a great place to have off-site business meetings, toward the back. For an artsy person like me, who sometimes just wants a quiet, quirky place to get good food and good juice, this place is a serious win-win! read more

Only go here once every now and then when I'm in downtown, but most of the staff is friendly. Service could be a little faster when there's literally no customers around (which is much of the time I'm there). Not a big fan of the decor either, and I often wind up taking off my coat even in the wintertime because it's always too warm in there. We are from out of town. The food is pretty good, and We made a point to come back after eating here last time. Even told a few people around the pool to check the place out. Paid $23 for 2 sandwiches and an ice tea. Asked for refill of ice tea. They charged me 50 cents (no sign). I know this seems extremely petty, and it probably is, but that 50 cents just cost them a customer. I think I've found my new favorite coffee shop. The staff is so so welcoming and the environment is very cozy. The space is almost like a cafe+diner hybrid. The layout includes worn comfy couches and different variations of tables with an assortment of different lighting fixtures. I feel like I'm in a New Orleans cafe in a sense. They have a vast menu for breakfast and lunch and bring the food and drinks to tour table once you're seated. There are string lights spanning the length of the ceiling and fun decorations that almost make me feel like I'm in a theme park. I ordered the minty pid julip and it was delicious. They have very reasonable prices. I see myself coming here often. read more

Comma Coffee would be my go-to spot for my lunch break and I've always loved the customer service and atmosphere until today. The owner was my waitress, she gave me water and asked if I was ready to order, I said I would like a minute to look at the menu. She came back 25 mins later asking me if I've decided and I told her I was going to be fine with just the water due to me not having time to place an order and eat anymore because of me having to go back to work in 10 minutes. She responded by saying "normally you're expected to order something if you come in" I told her that I've come here numerous times before and was able to come in and work on schoolwork, per permission of her worker. The owner then walked away from me and started making little side comments and told her worker in front of everyone. She was very rude and unprofessional. Worst customer service skills I've experienced, she could have handled this situation way differently. Will never be returning to this coffee shop again and I do not recommend coming here. read more

Really wonderful. Very good coffee! There were several self serve choices. Service was perfect. Cozy and eclectic atmosphere. (although I am not a great fan of skeletons they added to the eclecticism : ) We had a superb salad (forgot what it was called) and absolutely the best spinach salad with chicken EVER!!!!!!! then more coffee and got to sit and chat with the lovely owner Jane. I adore this place. Having worked nearby for nearly 8 years now, grabbing coffee or a bagel at Comma has been an almost daily occurrence. The food is great, but the atmosphere is what makes Comma special. The energy is funky and fun and everyone there is always having a good time. I love this little, quirky coffee shop in Carson City. It's also a fantastic lunch spot! Beyond local coffee, they offer a nice selection of breakfast items and soups, salads, and paninis for lunch. I come here for lunch only, so can't comment on the breakfast dishes but they sound tasty. My favorite lunch entree is Amy's panini. Pananis come with a small side of tortilla chips & salsa. They usually also have live music at lunch. My recent visit included a fun, acoustic guitar and harmonica duo playing bluesy western music. Now, the DECOR. The decor here is so funky and cozy, I love it. It's a beautiful historic building, so a lot of antique elements are incorporated splashed with bright colors. It's very Junkee-esque (if you are familiar with Junkee in Reno). Staff are always super friendly. They accept credit cards now (they used to be cash only). read more

I said the name of a smoothie incorrectly, but instead her telling me the right one, she change her tone and became very rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful. I was shocked that someone would talk to their customers like that. I worked in customer service and my customers tell me incorrect things all the time. Am I rude? So I was very excited to be here in Carson City and when I saw this little coffee shop I knew I had to stop in. This will be a long review because I was appalled by how I was treated. A short elder woman with glasses and bangs was EXTREMELY rude to me. I arrived at Comma, where there were no signs that said don't come inside order pick up at the window. But there was a sign that said outside seating only. Well I walked into place MY TO GO ORDER, and the woman was just SO rude. Right away in the rudest tone she said, "You can't be in here and if u need to order u need to do that outside." And I said "Oh I'm sorry, well there's no signs that say "don't come inside" and she repeated even more rudely "Ummm actually there is Ma'am." I went on to say "Ok ma'm well u don't have yo be rude to me, Jesus Christ!" And she tried to be nice after that saying she wasn't being rude. Someone else came to take my order after at the to go window and once I sat down at an outside table, the same woman came to me and said "I'm sorry for being rude to you, the sign actually was not out." And this is exactly what I'm talking about. Why be so rude to others, you run a shop, I'm trying to order food. Not just order but I'm a HUGE tipper. Even after that experience, I still tipped 20% and on top of that my coffee was basically all milk and the orange juice had at least 3 inches a nasty, frothy, foam. I dk if they treated me like this due to the fact that I was colored? I'm an Indian woman and did feel that she just judged me and decided I wasn't worthy enough or reading signs or being spoken to properly? I even tried to tag them on Instagram because of how disrespected I felt. But they didn't have one, maybe because they're so unprofessional? Food - 4 stars Dog friendly - 3 stars We ate dinner one Saturday night because no other place in Carson City had outdoor seating so we could eating with our dog. It was quite interesting because Comma Coffee was also hosting what appeared to be a goth band jam in the nearby courtyard. Certainly a blast back to college days in the '80s. Despite all the chaos, they happily prepared two salads and homemade hummus for us to eat outside. The hummus was outstanding and made fresh - like in the food processor while we sat outside. Yum. No water bowl outside nor was any offered so I gave it a 3 star for being dog friendly. Got the vibe that anipals are merely tolerated but it could have just been the fact it was a Saturday night. The only negative were the dudes sitting at the next table smoking and slurping down 64 oz drinks from 7-11. There is a big sign on the door that says no smoking at the tables but since they didn't buy anything from Comma Cafe, how would they know? We told the lady inside and she immediately came outside and said "Dudes..read the sign and put out the cigs!" They b*tched when she left but did comply. This would have been a Sarah Larson (maiden name) mecca during my collegiate years if I were in Carson City. And, let's be honest... a present day Sarah M one, too. On what I was told to be considered Carson City's 'Main Street' were a bunch of casinos... but at the end of the street stretch is this gem of coffee/ sweet treats/ artsy fartsy decor/ a $5 consignment clothing rack (what what!)/ live music patio. Heaven will have a Comma Coffee in it for me. Although my heart yearned to be outside enjoying the groovy live music, I had work to be done so I sat inside on one of the cozy couches and enjoyed one of the best cinnamon rolls of my life with fast free Wi-Fi. Cashier was unexperienced and didn't know how to charge me, to then being treated with the worst experience from the owner. She didn't even greet me and solely treated me like a hassle. I only wish we had eaten breakfast here but unfortunately on yelp it didn't come up when searching breakfast since its only listed as coffee and tea shop. :( so we ate a few doors down and I know it would have been better here!!! We came in for some Chai Tea and it was fantastic. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere and eclectic decor make this place whimsical and fun. We got our beverages to go but stayed quite a while just admiring the place. The breakfast and lunch menus looked great and the baked goods they were just taking out of the oven while we were there smelled delicious. I will be back for food next time for sure now that I know they serve food as well. We have to add this place under another category and put under breakfast and lunch and let it be known this place isn't just a coffee shop! It's WAY more and a definite stop coming through town for food as well. And FYI for any other Chai Tea Latte lovers out there, the tea was spicy and not too sweet, like most places are. Was told this was the best coffee house in Carson City. Maybe that is the case, but if so, Carson City has a long way to go when it comes to coffee. First of all: Good vibe in the shop. Lots of comfortable places to sit and hang out with friends or family. However, most of the couches and chairs are extremely well worn and need to be replaced. But let's get to the heart of the matter: The coffee. I am a coffee snob. I never drink Starbucks (horrid swill) and I avoid all chain coffee shops. I love local coffee houses who roast their own and who understand what good coffee is all about. Unfortunately, Comma Coffee clearly doesn't understand good coffee. There coffee wasn't any better than a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf would be (meaning it was lousy). They also don't understand good customer service. When three out of the four drinks that I ordered for my family were messed up and undrinkable, they only redid the drinks begrudgingly. And even then they were only so-so. The person in charge, to her credit, came over to me and offered her apologies and a $5 gift certificate as a way of making amends. However I had just spent $25 on my drink order so 5 bucks was pretty inadequate. In order not to make a scene, I suggested that $10 would be more appropriate and she obliged. I gave the certificate to my niece who lives and works close to Comma Coffee. If you are going to call yourself a specialty coffee house, get the skills necessary to actually be one. read more
