Went to Great Basin for dinner last night. I feel like the food quality is going downhill. I ordered the pick 3. The serving size was disappointing to say the least. I understand that for $18 I shouldn't expect a pile of food but it was embarrassingly skimpy and the rib was almost charcoal. I don't quite understand how the chef let that plate of food out of the kitchen. This is our neighborhood place and I'm sad that it's not as good as it was. Had lunch here today with a few friends. The place looked nice. Had an old time rustic feel to it. We were greeted and seated pretty much as we walked in. I had a look over the menu and decided that I was going to order the patty melt with fries. We waited a while for our waitress to come by and take our orders. I think she got a little busy because it was during the lunch hours. She was also waiting tables outside. Once she took our orders, it took a little while to get our food. Again, maybe it was because it was because of the lunch rush. Once I received my food it was ok. The bread was toasted a little too much to where it was hard and kind of scratched the roof of my mouth but, it wasn't too bad though. The fries seemed fresh. The patty melt was just average for me. A lot could improve. After an 8 hour day of packing up and unloading a u-haul, my dad and I wanted comfort and a cold one. We got seated at the last resort high top table that didn't match any of the other wooden ones, all I could smell was the metal and both our chairs were wobbly. It's all good but our waters took a while to come out and then my dad's beer took 10 minutes before she came back to tell us they were changing the keg. When we got our beers, they were filled to the brim and had no carbonation. Is that like a thing now, with beers being flat? I looked around and the other beers I noticed didn't have bubbles either. Anyway, since we were uncomfortable we ordered a few items from the happy hour to share. I will say the food was good but they need help with service, the design/layout of the tables, clean out the tap lines, and more comfortable seating. read more

Just ate lunch at Great Basin Brewing in Carson City. I had their fish tacos which were great and my husband really enjoyed the Brewery's Patty Melt. (Super good fries too!!) The staff is super friendly and made us feel welcomed. Nice brewery ambiance - oversized windows were open, letting in a nice breeze. We will be back here for sure!! read more

The four of us popped in for lunch after our visit to the nearby Nevada Railroad Museum. My BIL suggested this for our lunch respite after being here before. We were seated and handed menus. Great service, wonderful atmosphere -- just 2 of the reason we return to Great Basin for lunch. The Fish and Chips are among my favorite in the Reno area: crispy batter, fresh fish, and I love that I can choose 2 or 4 pieces of fish. Steaks fries are always delicious. As opposed to my last review/visit, the cole slaw was really good this visit - altho a little warm from sitting under the heat lamp waiting for the fries. Love the Cerveza Chilibesos beer. But yesterday I was craving pizza and thought it's time to try Great Basins pizza. I mean you can literally see the pizza oven as you walk in. I had been craving a good pizza for days and today definitely made my day. I chose the Tommy pizza. I think that's correct. It's basically a pizza with pepperoni red onion and jalapeño. Man I paired that with an Icky IPA and I was in Heaven. My dad who was with me always gets the ribs. That's his favorite. We are pretty much regulars here. Myself. This place is very chill, and the people working there are so friendly and kind. The beer is good, and there's so many options. We selected a table on their outside patio which offered good shade and a nice quiet place to enjoy the spring weather. Our server was friendly and quick to take our order, although I wished he'd checked back more often to refill drinks. We were ravenous when we sat down so over-ordered food, but everything we tried was delicious! Especially the onion rings...! They were some of the best I've had! The fries were also seasoned perfectly and the fish was dipped in the same yummy batter as the onion rings. First off, I have celiac disease and this is one of the only places I can eat at in Carson that is so careful with my meals. I usually order the salmon bowl or the cowboy burger. they usually use Udi Buns but they do not have a dedicated fryer for their fries. I can't remember her name (sorry I'm awful with names) but, she created a very yummy guaranteed gluten free margarita for me that I order every single time I see her there. We are here again but it was, at best, chaotic. First the wait wasn't too long but they were packed. They had racing on the TVs. Typical sports bar on Monday in March. It was a busy Saturday night around 5pm. We got seated right away. Our server was nice and friendly. Service itself was a bit slow, and there seemed to be a lot of people running around. The food was decent. The french fries were probably the best tasting food we ordered. The Ahi Salad was fishy tasting, which was pretty disappointing. The fish tacos were subpar, nothing exciting about them, lacked flavor. We also ordered a couple pizzas. The regular wood fired pizza was good, the Tommy Gun was exactly as expected. The gluten free crust was not my favorite, it was like eating cardboard, but the toppings helped. There are so many other GF pizza doughs out there you can use that don't make your pizza tough to eat. The beers were great! Brewery vibes and ambiance was a bit lively. I really want to like this place, but the food just didn't wow me. Will I be back, maybe for beer!
