We sat in the patio on a cool spring evening. Poof! They turned on the giant fire pit! Yea! Our party of 5 all tried different menu items. Burger, pastrami sandwich, BLTA, fish & chips, and the brisket. The Tahoe IPA beer was great. Kids all ordered soft drinks, plenty of refills offered! We all enjoyed our meals, except brisket boy. He was expecting BBQ brisket, but the plate was more of a roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, and veggies. Fish & chips were pretty good, with 2 nice sized chunks of cod. The sandwiches were nice, burger solid! The fries were really good, seemed like fresh cut. When I looked at what others were enjoying, we observed that the wings look to stand out. Next time we'll explore wings & fries....and more beer! Service was attentive and the patio very pleasant! read more

The good: Our server was great. She was personable. But she did mislead us when describing how everything on the menu was good. But at the same time, it would be silly to hear a server say bad things about the menu items to their guests. So, she was just doing her job. The bad - The food. Of all the things we ordered, the cheese curds were the best thing cuz...how could you go wrong with frozen items you throw in a fryer? Anyway, we also ordered the Fried Pickles. I enjoy fried pickles, but holy sh*t these were SALTY! These pickles were more like chips. They were actually light and crispy which is unusual as fried pickles are typically still soft and and keep their integrity after being fried in a batter. These, however were like, dehydrated pickles that were battered and deep fried. I really liked how crispy they were, but with how salty they were, we couldn't finish it. Chicken Pot Pie - one of the more popular dishes ordered. It looked great when presented. The top crust looked nice and thin like a cracker, but when I dug in, the filling was runnier than what I am used to. But more importantly, the flavor was off. I assume they use a frozen pie crust because it didn't taste buttery at all. It had a weird chemically taste. I missed having that rich buttery crust a pot pie should have. The filling didn't taste great either. Also, had a weird chemically taste to it. I almost think they use canned chicken based on the flavor and texture it had. I was so looking forward to a homey comforting pot pie. It's not often I get to eat one of these, but this one fell way short of my expectations. The Lamb Burger - My husband loves lamb and it's not often you see a lamb burger anywhere. He was so excited to have this, but was so disappointed after taking his first bite. He said it was so bland. I took a bite. And while it did taste of lamb, I agreed it lacked seasoning. Now, THIS needed some of the salt that were in those pickles. Lol! Foxy Fried Chicken - A panko fried chicken breast. It was good. Mashed potatoes were good and the veggies. I didn't expect this dish to be spicy though. I don't know if the cook went heavy handed on the pepper, but the veggies and mashed potatoes it was served with had a kick to them. Meh. All in all, we wouldn't return. There was nothing we had that made me feel like this place had potential and worth making another visit to. We did order quite a few things and everything, but the curds were lackluster and a disappointment. read more

To Jim Phalan, You lied about your manager coming to our table, we never saw your manager. We emailed you and you apologized that you got our table mixed up which is so sad if that's true, means that there was another disappointed customer. You said you would send us compensation, and we followed up with email which you ignored. Literally don't say anything in the first place if you weren't planning on making things right. We went to a casino and got larger portions, better service and the food was cooked perfectly in comparison to the farce you are trying to uphold. I would never do this but the fact you lied and said we had a manager come to our table but we denied it is incredibly wrong. And I hope you are exposed for what type of owner you are. read more

We have been here only a few times being new to the area, but have never been disappointed. The staff is friendly and attentive, treat regulars and "newbies" with the same level of attention. Our bartender Jack was quite friendly and took very good care of us. We normally sit at the bar when dining out for the interaction with staff and patrons, and were not disappointed. The brisket and jambalaya were excellent. They have a respectable, albeit limited, beer menu, and tasty cocktails. Casual atmosphere and reasonable prices will bring us back. read more

Great location in the downtown area with covered patio dining. The service started off good with our server being attentive but it dropped off a bit once it got busy. I enjoyed my burger and it was cooked to perfection. Inside had a rustic feel and the lighting was dim. read more

We only came here for beer but the food looked amazing! The beer was really good! We had the Irish red ale, the Naughty Boo Boo Brown Ale and the Mas Eli Mexican Lager. They were all delicious! The Fox Restaurant & Brewery is a very cool place. Lovely inside restaurant with great atmosphere, and a really nice Umbrella patio where I had the very best Five Star Bourbon glazed Salmon, rice and vegetables. Our server was Outstanding and her name was Ariel. This is a happening place with all the people going to the water fountain with their kiddos and the other restaurants across the way. This was my first time and the service and food were off the chart fabulous. I will come back for the Bourbon Glazed Salmon again. Very excellent food, Atmosphere and Service. Thanks Ariel. Today on our quest to fill up our Nevada Craft Beverage Passport, it led us here. We ordered a pastrami sandwich and an order of nachos, and we enjoyed both. The nachos were covered with beer cheese which, while good, didn't quite work as well for me as traditional nacho cheese. The pastrami on the sandwich was excellent--very lean and flavorful. It was served on grilled sourdough, which was good, but personally I would have preferred it on a soft Italian roll similar to what you get at The Hat. I also tried a flight of their beers, with the Raspberry Red being my favorite. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch and look forward to coming back to try more of the menu. I would definitely recommend stopping by. read more

Large lunch venue with indoor or outdoor seating. The Seamus O'Faolain Irish red ale (5.6% ABV 33 IBU) was fair. It's apparently their most popular beer, which makes sense for a British style pub, but give me a Guinness or Smithwick's. I'd give it a 3 of 5. Pastrami sandwich was good. Sweet potato fries were hot and seemed like the real deal. French fries, uh, not so much. They weren't the kind they cut in the kitchen. Fish and chips featured meaty, thick fish (good) and thick breading (bad, but usual for most fish and chips). read more

As a retired business owner I am well aware of when I receive excellent customer service. Wait staff members JAMIE and JOELLE demonstrated superior service throughout our meal, especially in the continued and timely refilling of water and soft drinks. I enjoyed the Western Bacon Burger and My Lovely Bide said her Steak and Mushroom Pie was also delicious. We highly recommend dining here. This was our first visit to the Fox Restaurant and Brewery, but the next time we travel through Carson City at mealtime, we will return! read more

Always a great time and excellent food. Service is always top notch and quick. Beer selection is awesome. Would give 10 stars to this place.

The stroganoff was super and the fish and chips were out of the world. Best I have ever had. The Raspberry beer was great. Wow what a selection of beers. Our server was Krystal and she is outstanding. Great service. Ask for her. This is the best place to eat in the Carson Valley. read more

I do love the vegetables, they had yellow, green squash, broccoli and cauliflower as an afterthought, they were perfectly cooked but the cook went a little overboard with the salt. I would just eat the vegetables alone but the order came with a cottage pie. I just ordered a side of vegetables too, never can get enough vegetables. Unfortunately the back bar is not staffed tonight so I had to contend with the noisy restaurant part of this restaurant. They changed the menu and eliminated one of my favourite jambalaya like entree. read more

Went there with friends to watch the game. Chance favors the prepared mind. The Fox Restaurant & Brewery is great at being prepared and at preparing others to enjoy being there. There's also something to be said for them having so many desirable traits, one here is comity, that are in such short supply elsewhere. I so love it when a business does everything so well that I'm able to write a glowing review. Staff graciously answered all our questions promptly We had a variety of drinks, and Fox's Nachos and their Fried Pickles. Nachos were perfect. Never had fried pickles before. They were delicious. The Chocolate Covered Cherry Stout was a delightful surprise!! Organized Waaaay cool ambiance Has average prices Place was clean Customer service was smooth and alacritous Delivered what they advertise Dog friendly No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting 5 star reviews of this business. . FTC forbids the use of fake testimonials as are illegal under Section 5 of the FTC Act (15 USC 45 as they are using unfair or deceptive acts or practices in or affecting commerce. I rate 'em 3 stars. According to Yelp ratings' definitions, that's "Ok". That to me is an acceptable rating of something that does day in and day out what it is there to do. It's NOT a negative review because doing day in and day out what it is there to do is NOT an easy thing to accomplish. This business is waaaay over and above disabled-friendly AND no matter how busy, and they got busy, they never rushed the customer out-the-door. I watched staff minute-by-minute professionally mitigate operational issues smoothly and suavely. That all earned 'em fourth review star for going beyond what they're in in business to do. The owner of this business likes their Freedom so they have a Military and Veterans Discount as a thank you to Veterans with a publicly disclosed daily Veterans Discount which provides resource to ensure Veterans (rare 6% of the population) and GIs (rare 1/2 of one percent of the population) opportunity to participate in American Dream Veterans and GIs' sacrifices have made possible for 100% of the population. That earned 'em fifth review star for going beyond what they're in in business to do. We were told their Reno location has a 30% discount on dine-in meals for military Veterans and Active-duty Service members every Monday. I'll be back. For my Customer Rule is: Always patronize again a business that has treated you well AND supports Veterans and Active Duty with a publicly disclosed daily Military and Veterans Discount. P.S. The whole experience at Fox Brewery was enjoyable. I went out with my kids and one of them is celiac. They ordered a Hawaiian pizza with gluten free crust. The waiter was assured us they were good about cross contamination and they really were. My kid can tell because they are very sensitive to gluten. I had the Steak and mushroom pie with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. It was done just right, with a crisp flaky crust and tender steak and mushrooms inside. My son had a burger that he said was very good and my daughter had the chicken wrap with fries. She said it was very good, not dry like many wraps can be. We have been here before and look forward to going back. We do prefer to go when it is a little quieter, as the restaurant is small and can get nosy when crowded. Came for the fish and chips (I changed FF out for a salad). I came because it was suppose to be "The Best". I grew up in the Midwest with Fish Fry Fridays all year round and I can tell you this was NOT the best. It was way over cooked, the batter was way too thick and very greasy. I got better fish at a church fish fry in Reno last week. Also ordered a Cobb salad at our table. Chicken was over cooked and dry. Waitress was able to get a fresher one. Service was fantastic! read more

Great service, nice place, but the "Mac & Cheese" was the weirdest mac n cheese I've ever seen. Go look at my photos, and you tell me if that looks anything like mac n cheese. First off, they're kind of tricking us by having Mac in the name because it's not macaroni. It's penne pasta. OK, that's fine, but then, where's the cheese? What I got was sorta melted in with bits of bacon. But I expected a pub to serve a big, tight, cheesy mess of mac & cheese. What I got was just not fun to eat. Everyone else had great entrees--big burgers, nice salads. Just do not order the Mac and Cheese. read more

Quick! Across from the Assembly building. The waitress struggled to understand anything we ordered. The menu options were vast. Everything looked good but she struggled. I was informed the wings could not be tossed with hot sauce. After I had such a curious look, she did come back out with the wings tossed ...interesting. The wings were not seasoned, dry. Terrible Oktoberfest schnitzel - a dry pork cutlet with no gravy and lame, packaged bfast potatoes!

We had a great time during this visit. Our server was super friendly and helpful. We tried different dishes this time. Probably because they had an Oktoberfest special menu too. We tried the pretzel which was delicious, but a bit much on the salt. We also had the cottage pie special, bratwurst, and the pork schnitzel. Definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

Wonderful pub in downtown Carson City by the Capitol building. Nice decor with a few TVs on for sports. Extensive menu and full bar. The squeeze and I split the beef dip. We added the garlic fries. The sandwich seemed kind of small for the money, but it was loaded with very tender beef. Dunked that in the jus, presto. She had a Hop Tahoe and I did the Seamus Red. Both were quite good brews. Great service too! Sierra did an outstanding job, loved her sense of humor. If I lived here, I'd be a regular. read more

The gravy was too salty, and the chefs should sample their product before customers are forced to eat it. This gravy was used universally on pot pie and fried chicken. I saw more than one table pushing these choices aside. Secondly, I was served a very good salad (hence 2 stars), but I had only two bites before my entree was delivered. I hate that. Timing is essential, and servers should NEVER deliver the entree, or better still, time the entree to arrive while the customer is eating their appetizer or salad. So the remedy is not to leave the entree under a heat lamp, but to time it to follow the appetizer or salad. We purchased a property on Thompson, up the hill, in 2003, but until these issues are addressed, we will not be returning. read more

We tried the Fox Irish red beer today. It is awful. Do not know what is in it but it tastes like some strange additive. High change over in staff, food is hit and miss. Used to be our go to place. A lot of rude customers.

The Fox has been our "go-to" in Carson for close to a year. Tonight we went for dinner and the server "Hills" was rude and unfriendly. We usually have the experienced servers that do a great job taking care of customers. This one, although working at the Fox for over six months, was rude and insulting demanding that I slow down when giving her my order because she was slow on using their POS system. After her rude comment I asked for a cup of soup before my dinner and she lost it! She said now she had to delete the order and start all over. We eat at the Fox three times a week and bring clients to dinner several nights a month. The other servers normally do a great job, are friendly, never rude and demeaning, and have no issues when taking customers orders. If we weren't hungry we would have left, and should have. We will be looking for another "go to" after this demeaning experience. The owner, Jim responded to my original post which I appreciate. One employee shouldn't affect the ranking of a great place to visit and I've changed my previous rating. Thank you Jim. read more

Came back again today for lunch and had another good experience. My husband really enjoyed his burger and the clam chowder, and I thought the steak nachos and turkey melt were both very good as well. The food has been consistently solid, which is why we keep returning. Service has generally been good, but I've noticed over the last few visits that drink refills don't come very often. I usually have to get the server's attention for a refill. Other than that, our server has always been friendly and attentive. Overall, we had a good experience and would still come back. read more

We love this restaurant, we really do. But we were sorely disappointed when our takeout order was delivered cold and half as big as the same order we get in the restaurant. We ordered the fish and chips, and although it was tasty, it was half the size of the same order we get at the restaurant. Since we usually split the order between the two of us, with this order we were left very hungry and unhappy. Conclusion: beware their takeout orders. It's better just to eat in the restaurant. read more
