I got the Penne ala Vodka with steak (rare), and it was perfect!

The low ratings for this place are baffling, me and my mom were both blown away by the quality of the affordable(!) meals we got. The rare steak in my penne pasta was perfectly cooked, and all the flavors were excellent. We ordered French fries as well and they were incredible- fresh French Fries cut out of a real potato with the skin still on served hot. Tremendous! The serving staff was really friendly as well.

Frozen fried chicken straps and flat shrimp. Coleslaw flavor was off putting this trip.

Free senior meal on Wednesdays with 50 base points on your players card. Shrimp abs chicken. They used to use accrual chicken for the straps, now they are the frozen ones like you buy at Walmart.. Still a good filling lunch. I believe there are 6 or 7 items on the senior menu. Some better than others. Allot like cafeteria food if I had to compare it to anything. Most the original staff are gone now since I've been going here for almost 3 years. The fries come out hot so that's a plus as I hate cold fries.. The meals are ok. Staff friendly. Restaurant stays clean.

This is a great restaurant, I had their prime rib dinner for $14.99 and it was great. Very large salad, baked potato with all the fixings, green beans and a huge serving of prime rib plus au jus and horse radish sauce.. I went again and I had one of their 4 monthly specials Orzo chicken salad with black olives, cherry tomatoes and artichokes in a great dressing either garlic bread.. plus for $4.99 extra you get 7 large crispy fried shrimp and they are great. Their menu is great and the dining room is clean and service great.

    Seed of a banana.

If I could give negative stars, I would. After we were seated, our drink order was taken but the gal got that incorrect. The iced teas had floating black specs in them (may have been remnants of the tea bags). After we were served our meal, no one came back to check on us. We had to catch the server, to briefly ask for more coffee. We needed more sugar and my son wanted a refill on his soda. I wanted my iced tea replaced with water. Had to grab sugar off of another table while waiting. At that point a waitress from another area asked if we needed anything. She was actually very helpful. I ordered the bananas foster French toast. The bananas were all bruised and the "bananus" of the banana was in my food. I tried to let the gal know that seated us (the one that messed up our drink order) but she dismissed what I was saying and tried to say that I had a problem with them putting the end of the banana in my food. Never apologized or acknowledged the issue. I even tried to point out the "bananus" and she didn't see an issue with it. Oh and apparently she was the supervisor.

Pretty basic breakfast food items. I had bacon and biscuits and gravy. It was a decent meal. If you don't mind eating in the casino, it's a good option for a meal. Didn't take us that long to be seated. There's a large parking lot out front. It's free to park.

#1 from the selections on the free breakfast coupon (for staying here).

Gold Dust West is my favorite place to stay for a quick overnighter on the way through town. It's reasonably priced and staying in the hotel gets you a coupon for free breakfast - so here I am! There's a list of free breakfast options on the back of the coupon. I chose #1, which I believe was called the Little Star. Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, Bacon, Toast and Coffee - pretty solid for free! The food was good - pretty standard I guess... the staff has always been really nice and attentive which helps smooth things out until the coffee kicks in. Great start to the day - ready to hit the road again!

Finally trying out the casino restaurant because my favorite mexican restaurant Ole Ole is not open. Ordered their prime rib special, asked for medium rare, probably should have asked for rare because the cut I got was closer to medium to well done. The prime rib was okay but might have been better if it was closer to medium rare. It's accompaniments I wanted was a baked potato and mixed vegetables of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. All the goodies like sour cream, butter and creamed horseradish. Sorry, I got a pumpkin pie but I made it disappear before getting a pic.

We were headed back to Sacramento on the 50 comin into Carson City. I saw this ad for "Bones and Brew" at the Gold Dust West Casino. It offered a 1/2 rack of ribs served with fries and a beer for just $8.99. Half a rack for $9 bucks sounded like a deal and tossing in a beer too. So, we pull off into the Gold Dust West. It's a small locals casino with a Mexican restaurant and the regular dining area, called the Grille. We're seated fine in a booth. I see the placard on the table for the 1/2 rack of ribs for $8.99 and also I see an offer of free pie! Just spend over $7.00 and you get a free piece of pie. Damn, a great $8.99 rib deal, PLUS FREE pie! My friend decides to get the Bacon Cheeseburger. The food arrives in decent time. Yep, that's a full 1/2 rack all right. 6 bones uncut. I asked if the kitchen could cut my ribs for me, but they said no, we give you a knife. So, you'll be stuck sawing away at this rack at the table yourself. I asked for sauce on the side, cause grabbin them ribs with sauce slathered all over is way messier than no sauce and dipping the ribs in the sauce as you eat them. The fries were a sort of smaller portion served along with a little plastic container of coleslaw. The Bacon Cheeseburger looked really good. My friend chomped away on it and said he liked it just fine. My ribs, I'll tell you what, (people seem to say this a lot in these parts), were super meaty and fall off the bone easy to eat. The sauce was standard Bullseye, but the ribs! These weren't the standard, St. Louis, but more like bigger baby back ribs with the curved bones. Maybe not the absolute best ribs I ever had, but damn good for the price! I was stuffed and was one rib short of finishing. I got a Budweiser since I wasn't the one driving. Then the server asks what pie we'd like. You only have the choice of some kinda pie I never heard of, Cookies and Cream or Berry pie. We both took the berry pie. It was a pretty decent pie, not gourmet, but FREE! If I'm passing thru Carson City again, I just might have to get these ribs again if the offer hasn't ended.

    Served moldy bread

Ordered toast as a side to my plate and was given moldy toast. Not great since I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and that is also something that could've been moldy. Couldn't even eat the rest of my plate.

They also have an incredible beer selection with well over 100 beers on the menu, so there's something for everyone. A word of advice make reservations if you can. The wait was nearly an hour and it's easy to see why. We started with the fry bread and the jalapeño bombs. The fry bread was delicious, but those jalapeño bombs were an absolute 10/10 and a must-order. We originally came for the prime rib, but unfortunately they had already sold out around 6 p.m., which was definitely disappointing. Thankfully, the food that did make it to our table erased that disappointment pretty quickly. We ordered the two-meat BBQ plate with ribs and brisket, and both were cooked to perfection. The meat was tender, smoky, and paired perfectly with their delicious BBQ sauce. We also tried the spicy pot pie, which was unlike any pot pie I've had before, in a good way. It reminded me of an enchilada baked inside a buttery, flaky crust, and it was fantastic. The service was equally impressive. I feel terrible that I can't remember our server's name because he absolutely deserves the recognition. He was friendly, attentive, and made our entire experience even better. Between the amazing food, outstanding service, and unique atmosphere, this ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. In fact, it's probably the biggest reason I'd make the drive back to Carson City.

We had a 45 minute wait which I don't mind being that it was a Saturday night, but after being sat at our table it took more then 25 minutes for our server guy to come around and take our order for a soda and an Iced tea! As far as the food I think that we enjoyed your sample that was given at Taste of Downtown more than the almost $80 meal that my wife and I had that night! Wife had the Brisket sandwich which looking at the menu you'd think it would be 2-3 slices of brisket accommodating the bread and fixn's, Nope it it came out like pulled pork or canned beef jerky. I had the half chicken meal and I guarantee the the reason our meals were cold, was probably because the waiter was sitting at the table by the left rear wheel of the steam paver in the lobby instead of bringing our food out and we had to ask the server for the table behind us for a few boxes and our check! NEVER RETURNING id rather spend my time and money elsewhere! Mike

When I heard…read morethat the awful awful burger, (awful, big, and awful good! ) is at the Carson City nugget, I wanted to get here for sometime, but I haven't. The casino itself is a simple casino that caters more toward the locals. Old, but comfortable. I can't speak for the games, because I didn't play. But it just reminded me of an old-fashioned casino that goes way back when. They changed the name of the coffee shop to the capital city Grille. They did a good job with the remodel, it's bright and fresh, and it still has that old-fashioned coffee shop vibe, Unlike the crowded space with just a few tables that was in back of the Reno casino. Also, this place is not open 24 hours, like the one in Reno was. I retired from drinking a long time ago, but I still kind of remember that 3 AM stumble into the Reno nugget diner for an awful awful. Ah, the memories... The service was good. Right off the bat, my waitress advised me that she was the only person working, yet she still got to me pretty quick. There was nothing like the original awful awful at the Reno nugget, but I would say that this burger is a worthy heir to the throne. It's more of an "upscale awful awful", but it still holds the mantle of awful big, and awful good. When you order, they ask how you want your burger cooked. I asked for medium, and that's how it came. She also offered me several different options beside the fries. For me, fries, no question. I wanted the entire experience. At the old nugget, you'd get a giant basket of fries, which I could never finish. The burger reminded me so much of the original awful awful. It was immense! With my first bite, the memories just came flooding back. Instead of an onion bun, it now comes on a brioche bun, and as I ate the burger, the bun started to disintegrate a little bit, just like it used to do in Reno. It's hard for a bun to hold up to that much burger. All of the fixings were fresh, and my "awful awful sauce", just as good as always, came on the side. That was no problem, I used part of it on the burger, and the rest of it I used as a "fry sauce" which I love. , the fries were skin on steak fries, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and absolutely delicious. I'm not sure what they seasoned them with. Somehow, I managed to finish the whole meal. It's more expensive than the original, but hey, prices for everything have gone up. The price was still very reasonable. No, this isn't the Reno awful awful, but this place has done an awful awful good job of keeping the tradition going. (See what I did there? :) I will be back. Thanks.
