    Smoked Chorizo Scramble ($13.25)
    Rachel L.

A very delicious breakfast spot with hefty portions! I loved the chorizo scramble I got which was perfectly cheesy, salty, and slightly spicy with the jalapeños. The Potatoes were filling and tasty too. I tried my friend's patty melt and it was solid but a little bland. The place literally looks like a diner in a box! Such old school vibes with funky paintings all over the walls. Open kitchen concept tells me everything is made fresh. Service was quick and efficient. Can't stress it enough that this spot is CASH ONLY! We didn't know.

Excellent service and delicious food We were waited on and seated right away. We've been here before and have always been impressed with the quality of food and service

Love this little breakfast and lunch spot for divey food. They have a couple of great cooks and even better waitresses. The pancakes are the most tasty that I have ever had. I always order the pancake sandwich that comes with choice of bacon or sausage, one egg cooked to your liking (and let me tell you twice now, they have cooked my over medium egg to absolute perfection!!) and two big warm tasty pancakes. That grill has seen lots of food and maybe that's why it tastes so good? Be forewarned, they only accept cash. No credit or debit, but they do have an ATM onsite for all your cash obtaining needs. The staff was friendly as heck and the environment is warm and inviting. You wont go wrong eating here so if you haven't been here yet, go on down and sit at the counter and watch them make a breakfast or burger that you wont forget.

Bigger on the inside than its building would suggest, the Cracker Box Restaurant is a classic old diner. From its open kitchen, counter seating to its tables and booths reminiscent of an old diner you would see in Mayberry. My friend went with the classic French Toast, while I went with the classic "Bacon and Eggs" but added a single pancake. The French Toast was served on hearty pieces of French Toast, cooked to perfection and lightly sprinkled with powered sugar. Served with Maple Syrup, this was a timeless breakfast option. My Bacon and Egg, were served with their "soon to be World Famous Spuds". I have to admit, the home fried potatoes were pretty damn good. The eggs were standard fare. The bacon was cooked to perfection, crispy and delicious. Served as a generous portion of 4 strips. I was eager to try the pancakes. They were perfect serving size, sizable but not too big. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The batter was oddly delicious. I would have liked a touch more "snap" to the outer texture but that is getting pretty picky on an otherwise solid pancake. The staff were hustling, trying to ensure the guests were all being take care of in a timely manner. Welcoming and always with a smile, the staff embodied that "welcome home" ambiance you want in a diner.

The breakfast here is always great when I come, the service is nice, and the taste never changes as it's always consistent. It does suck that they don't take credit or debit cards, but nonetheless, it's a cozy spot when you're hungry early in the morning.

I've already done a review on this amazing place. But I have to say it again how amazing this place is. Today I tried the pancakes with a side of bacon. Man these were some epic pancakes and look at the bacon in the picture. Those ain't some measly slices there. I would eat here every day if I could. But I don't want to get any fatter than I am. Cracker Box is absolutely a 5 star place to eat. Great service and wonderful decor. It's always clean!

As old school diner as it gets. Plenty of breakfast and lunch options here. Along with fresh brewed coffee and orange juice. They also have a kids menu. I had the everything but the sink omelette with egg whites. Wife had the turkey club. While the kids had the mini mouse pancakes and cheeseburger. Everyone was satisfied and full. As the portions are a generous size. CASH only

    Patty Melt at 45% discount!

Cracker Box just had their 45th Anniversary of being in business. To celebrate they were offering 45% off on all meals that day May 13th. Normally I don't go to the Cracker Box, but for that discount and looking over the menu, I'll give it a try! I was expecting a huge crowd, but there wasn't and there were tables available, so no prob. I went around 11 am for lunch. Service was fast and efficient. The server just marked the bill down and gave a total. The other thing is bring CASH, no credit or debit cards taken here. I ordered the Patty Melt served with fries. I asked if I could upsize the meat patty to the 1/2 pound version for just $1.50 more, no prob. The regular price for the Patty melt was $10.25 + $1.50 for the bigger meat was $11.75, but with 45% off it was just $6.46 for a big ole 1/2 pound Patty Melt and fries, such a deal! The Patty melt was one of the best I've had in the area, all cooked juicy and toasted crispy and buttered, everything that a Patty Melt is supposed to be! Good place for a Patty Melt in Carson.

Bring cash. Bring your appetite. I wondered what all the hububb was about this place and now I know why. Cheap and cheerful. Lots of parking. Fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice made to order. Wonderful sides. Yellowy red potato salad. Chili. Breakfast plates. HUGE egg battered sole plate. Great coffee. Wonderful service. Happy and talkative cooks. Open grill/kitchen. Friendly patrons. Soup of the day. Myriad of specials. Something for everyone.

Scrambled eggs with melted cheese, grilled onions, potato hash, ground chuck steak and buttered sourdough toast.

What I received was an amazing blend of super tender pork in a slightly sweet but tangy BBQ sauce, mac n' cheese, and a perfectly cooked (not hard or dry), very generously sized potato (big enough for two). On a chilly day, when you're hungry, this absolutely fits the bill. Warming and savory, but well balanced, and not greasy. After some bowling or billiards? Perfect. I was thinking this was probably the best flavor, when I saw the rotating ad for....a spaghetti potato pie. Will have to come back and try other varieties. The cashier was very helpful and patient explaining the menu. Checked the website and looks like they update the menu with new options too. They say they're "dedicated to perfecting the art of the baked potato," and they're doing exactly that. Along with it, they're also serving up one of the best craft-style fountain sodas, Stubborn Soda. Don't hesitate to make a little detour (or order delivery) to try this place. TIP: Located inside the HomeGrown Bowl center: from the main entrance, head down the hall to the right past the arcade; also near a side entrance.

However, service has been a challenge during each visit. On our most recent visit, it took about 20 minutes to be seated with a party of four, including a child, even though there appeared to be open tables. After sitting down, it took several minutes before we were greeted. Our server brought waters and later took drink orders, but there wasn't much communication about timing or whether they were short staffed. Once we placed our order, we waited close to an hour for our food. We completely understand that restaurants can get busy and staffing can be tight -- we just would have appreciated a quick update along the way. A little communication goes a long way and helps set expectations. When our food arrived, part of the order was incorrect (we had requested a salad and soup substitution but only received fries). The server corrected it, and the food itself was good. It did come out at different times, and we noticed another table seated after us received their food much sooner, which was a bit confusing. We truly want to support Roy's and hope this feedback is helpful. With stronger communication and smoother service flow, it could be a great experience.
