Quality/Quantity - My buddy was craving BBQ, but ended up deciding on this place instead. And of course, I can never turn down a pour house, lol. Today we got the following: Special - Pulled pork on a pretzel bun with fries. Two orders. Wow, it exceeded my expectations. Well, I honestly did not have high expectations. The pork was tender and flavorful; I did not even need the extra BBQ sauce that I asked for but used it to not waste it. And with a generous amount of fries; my buddy did not finish his fries. I also like the nice touch of a fried pickle on top of the slider. Fish and Chips - My other buddy that was craving BBQ switched to this and loved it. Chicken Breast Sandwich - My healthy buddy. He was also not able to finish his fries. All of which was good. And I plan to come back for Happy hour in the future. Especially Wing Wednesdays! Ambiance - Larger than expected. The burger was fantastic, the onion rings were perfect. My cocktail was great. The restaurant and bathroom are both clean. On the way out I met the owner and discovered his wife was our waitress and bartender. I can't remember her name but she kicks ass! Westside Pour House is a bit unassuming from the outside, but you can enter from 2 different streets. My Son was in town recently, and after a trip to Virginia City and then back to Carson City to visit a card/game store (Retro Replay) that he was interested in, we were ready for Lunch. I wanted our meal to be someplace I've not yet been, so remembering my occasional visits to the ATM at Westside Pour House, we agreed to try this place out. One of the kitchen staff was taking a break as we entered, and his praise for this place was unequivocal. And once we had a seat, he briefly came over a couple times to make sure we liked what we ordered. We did. I ordered a Bleu Burger, while David went for the fish and chips. That plus a Hop Valley craft beer for me and a sprite for him, made for a fine lunch. Westside Pour House has a bit of a clean and welcoming Midwest "Pub and Grub" vibe, which we also enjoyed. I'll keep this place in mind for future downtown Carson City wanderings. read more

My boss had come in to town to tour my district with me and ended up in Carson city. I've always had very good experiences with the restaurants out there. I was pretty upset with my good on Thursday. I always check yelp reviews especially when they picture the French fries. Most of the pic fries looked like they were bomb dot com. Some of them look like they are seasoned fries. Well what I got was nothing like the reviews. My fries were crinkled fries and the wings were the size of my thumb and super dry. I was surprised to see the fries not being the same as most of the yelp pics. My boss ordered a burger with fries and his were even on the golden toasted size but mine were pretty pale. The wings did not look appetizing. Prices are pretty comparable. I did not complain about the prices. For 3 of us the total was $57 which is really good. read more

We came here just after noon on a Saturday. The kitchen opens at noon on Saturday's so that was perfect. It was not busy at all, we only saw one other customer when we arrived. We saw that a fellow Yelper had the pretzel cheese balls and we had to try them. In addition, my wife ordered two tacos and I chose the patty melt with fries. The pretzel balls arrived and looked yummy. We were given two plates and cut into them and the warm cheese oozed out. They were really tasty with the melted pepper-jack cheese inside. We did not even touch the side of cheese sauce. Our entrees arrived shortly after and also looked good. My wife had the shredded chicken tacos which are simple but tasty. The Patty melt was on sour dough and was really good. The caramelized sauteed onions were perfect. Overall the place looks clean and the service was good. I came here in a group of 4 after a long day of skiing in Tahoe. The place was clean and the setting gave me the dive bar feel I so much enjoy. We were greeted right away by the bartender at our table and got drinks going. His old fashions were on point and went down super smooth. We ordered appetizers first. The Fried pickles (classic and delicious), pretzel balls (also good), and the potato skins (amazing). In our group, a burger was ordered that I heard was great. The chicken strips and fries which were cooked to perfection and I ordered a couple shredded chicken tacos and the penguin tacos. The tacos were legit amazing. Penguin tacos were from another place of business that was a benchmark in the community but since had closed and passed on their recipes. I ordered them based off the bartenders recommendations and they did not disappoint! Did I mention they were only $2.50?? Yes that's right, order them and you will not be disappointed. One day craving for a pretzel with cheese, I opened up my handy-dandy Yelp app and Westside Pour House (WPH) popped up. So a phone call to verify their menu offerings we jumped in the car to WPH. Walked in and greeted immediately, wait staff was kind and accommodating by offering the menu and getting our drink order right away. We have come in here on several occasions for Bloody Mary's (YES they are fantabulous) and what I would call our brunch aka lunch on a Sunday Funday for burgers & sandos. Okay back to this review and this visit was specifically for the pretzel balls and we were NOT disappointed. House-made Pretzel Balls stuffed w/pepper jack cheese that were absolutely ooey, gooey OMCheesy Goodness! TOO DIE FOR! We also had Row's Chorizo Poppers w/fresh jalapenos and stuffed w/chorizo - yumm-o! Anddd we tried the Dry Rub Rib Bites that were bite-sized, flavorful and OMTASTY! We paired our food for me a Dirty Martini that was PERFECT! and for my hubby a Shoe Tree Porter. We have since gone back because I have not stopped thinking about those house-made pretzel balls plus they have updated their menu and kitchen hours. Did I mention you can order anything to-go - WOOT WOOT!! On our 2nd time in I had the pretzel balls again and this time the kitchen staff asked if I would like jalapenos added inside to which I overzealously said YES! These were daBOMB dot com!! My husband got the Kit Carson Burger that was cooked to PERFECTION (medium) super juicy and flavorful. We will definitely be back to order in or take-out. Added bonus this is smoke-free establishment with pool tables, electronic dart boards, some gaming at the bar with added perks to the comedy shows in town (see details inside or ask the GREAT staff). If you live in Carson City, you probably know the Westside Pour House. On a positive note, it's a great bar with friendly staff and good drinks. The food side - not so much. Sure, I know, it's bar food so you don't need to get your expectations up to high. I am a retired chef having worked first as a short order cook for six years then after graduating from culinary school as a certified chef in Austin, Denver, San Francisco and New Orleans for nineteen years. I've worked at several high profile restaurants and hotels. I say that only to say I've seen a lot of really exquisite food, some not so much, but today, I was served what may be the worst food order I ever made. We stopped by the Pour House today, Saturday, to have lunch and a drink. The place was mostly empty. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich which mysteriously was on the menu as a batter fried tenderloin sandwich. Huh? I was intrigued. I ordered it thinking wow, why would anyone in their right mind batter a tenderloin. When my order arrived, true to the menu, the "tenderloin" was served on a poppy seed bun. The only problem was that the "tenderloin" had been put on the grill and pressed into submission. The paddy itself extended three inches around the bun. No, you heard right - 3 inches. Of course, the "chef" had rendered anything resembling moisture from the meat with the over the top pressing. So, why didn't I send it back? If you've ever worked in the culinary industry, you know what is edible and what is not. Then there is the entre that is so over the top gross, bad and inedible, you have to sit in awe of the dish and wonder what in the hell was the cook thinking. I cut the excess meat from around the bun (leaving a cardboard like substance which I took home). More on this later. The experience was laughable. It was really that horrible. As to the doggy box, it was just that. I have two standard poodles and a miniature poodle. They have to eat too. read more

The food was above average bar fair with a decent sauce that they refer to as "penguin sauce." We had Bleu Cheese Potato Skins, Penguin Tacos and a Penguin burger. The potato skins were very GOOD. The place was clean, and the server was pleasant, although a bit delinquent in rechecking on the status of our drinks. Overall, it's a clean place with a welcoming attire. This place is your standard pub experience offering bar food. We ordered the nachos which were just ok...mostly chips. The chicken tenders were a bit disappointing. They were dry and very tiny in size. The fries were soggy and undercooked. We paid the up charge for garlic Parmesan on the fries and they tasted like plain salted fries. No noticeable garlic or Parmesan. The drinks are cheaper than most bars with shots of Jack Daniels being $6. They have a few pool tables and large TV's on the wall. The bathroom was well maintained and clean. If in the area again and wanted a quick drink we would return but not order any food. It was one bartender on staff and she was efficient.
