So there we were. We wanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. You can sit inside or outside and on this last visit I was on a motorcycle ride and decided to stop in again and enjoy a lunch. The inside is very unique with plenty of seating and the staff are always great and accommodating. This place is becoming a favorite! The staff is always polite and professional. The restaurant is clean but can be loud depending on the time of day due to the way the building is designed. Tonight we attended the Minden Mills Whisky Paired Dinner. The food and drinks were delicious. Everything was cooked beautifully and seasoned perfectly. Our party ordered the Basque Burger, Overland Dip, Chipotle Chicken Pasta, and Smoked St. Louis Ribs. I had the ribs, which were a letdown. They had a thick, jerky-like crust, and the meat was dry. No BBQ sauce was provided initially -- we had to ask for it -- and while it helped a bit, the dish still missed the mark. My wife ordered the Chipotle Chicken Pasta, and I tried a bite. The flavor and texture were not good, she ended up leaving most of it. We didn't take it home. Our kids had the Basque Burger and Overland Dip. I didn't hear any complaints from them, and the Overland Dip actually looked pretty appetizing. That said, with so many great dining options in the area, we'll likely look elsewhere next time. Went back to Overland again. I knew we would. Place was busy as it was noon time when we went. Sat at a table in the back dining area which is nice and light with the huge windows. You can watch the world go by as you enjoy amazing food. We had a really sweet waitress. She stayed on top of everything.. Once again, those crispy shrimp. Got an extra side of the sauce as it's amazing on the shrimp. Tried the gnocchi with ox tail. That was so tasty. Had plenty left over for dinner as well. So many other things we want to go back to try, but we will always be getting those shrimp. They are so so delicious. Overland, keep doing what you do and you'll have customers for life. I heard about this place on Channel 2 News so I had to try it out and the food is really good. My favorite part of the whole meal was the brussels sprouts appetizer. ...and of course I did not get photos of it because it was gone before I knew it, but I did get photos of the lunch special! I had come by here about 6 months ago but I was rushing and couldn't find the restaurant. I am happy I gave myself the opportunity to come back and find this place. First off, the staff is very welcoming, and helpful. They're so friendly. A+ for service! We were seated near a bulletin board that featured the special dishes available. I'm thinking they put on their seasonal items. I think I remember a wild boar sausage plate, a prime rib night, and maybe another plate with smoked meats. Even though I was looking for something on the lighter side that night, I was still looking for excuses to stop by some other time. Smoked meats and wild game is my thing!! I love that I've found another spot that offers this because so far, Himmel Haus, a German restaurant that's located by Heavenly ski resort is the only other place I know of that serves wild game sausage. If anyone that knows of other wild game meats places send me a message with your suggestions, thanks in advance! A golden beet salad is what caught my eye, it just sounded so good. The salad greens were tossed in a sweet vinegary dressing, not overwhelming at all. Not too much was done to the beets, I like that. They tasted roasted and they were not too soft. The salad was topped with a deep fried goat cheese medallion that just brought the salad flavors together. Even though the salad greens were slightly on the wilted side I did not mind this because of all the other great things that were going on. This salad totally hit the spot. I came here just a few minutes before 6 and Happy Hour ends at 6. I ordered a beer because I mean it was still Happy Hour... I just have to I also got some smoked sweet habanero wings off the Happy Hour small plate menu. There were 4 of them and they were tasty. I'll try to make it here around 5 pm next time to catch that last Happy Hour and taste the small plate items. I also want to check out their beer selection. The restaurant has a nice cool vibe; the decor is awesome. There are huge photo prints around the whole building walls. It's just a welcoming place. The overland is such a great restaurant! The building is so cute and historic, has a really nice vibe. The bathrooms are very nice, maybe the nicest ones I've seen in a restaurant. The patio is super comfortable and inviting. I came with my family and dog to enjoy some brunch. We ate out on the patio. We were immediately greeted and got a drink order in. Marshall was our server and he was extremely attentive, nice and funny during our dining. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was super tasty. The breakfast potatoes are actually more like fries which I wasn't expecting, but loved! My husband got the boss hog which is a next level biscuits and gravy. This dish comes with egg and meats. We received our entrees about 15 minutes later. My French onion soup was amazing! My husband got salad instead of fries and it was very good and displayed very lovely. Some places don't care how they present their food and just throw it on a plate. Our burgers were delicious! Our server checked on us a couple of times. There weren't many restaurants in Minden/ Gardnerville that I wanted to try after looking at Yelp reviews but did think Overland was our best bet for what we were looking for. They didn't disappoint. We were able to make a same day reservation. I didn't want to be stuck without dinner confirmed before our show at TJ's Corral. We were greeted by the smile of a young hostess. She brought us to out seats and asked if we were going to the concert. Yes, we were. By the look of the place and crowd we weren't the only ones. The atmosphere was happy and bustling. Our server was prompt and friendly. We started with the bacon wrapped poppers which were salty, sweet and creamy. I didn't taste much heat. I was ok with that. We also had cocktails. The old fashioned and Smokey whiskey sour. The whiskey was definitely tasted. Good cocktails. I had the steak salad. I requested medium rare and it came as asked. I polished it off. Very good! My husband had the gnocchi. He said it was very tasty. He didn't add any protein and enjoyed the tomato mushroom base. If we weren't pressed for time, I would have liked dessert. I was looking for a place to take my dad to celebrate his 80th birthday. I'm from the Seattle area, so I checked out Yelp and was impressed with the reviews for Overland. I made a reservation for 4:00 on his birthday and mentioned it was a birthday celebration. I showed up a little before the reservation time and was instantly greeted by the staff and seated at a prime window location. My dad and his wife shared a Caesar salad and cheese bread. I had a Proper Chicken Sandwich with fries. The food was amazing! The cheese bread was similar to a deep dish pizza, so yummy! We had a margarita and a glass of wine also, which were great. The highlight of the meal was the service. From top to bottom, we were treated like family. It was absolutely the best place to celebrate a special occasion with family.
