We were surprised to see how many food places were closed on Mondays/Tuesdays during the summer We were happy to find this place was open. I read Yelp reviews and knew I wanted to have the veggie patty- you can sub that for any burger and then order from the regular burger menu. I got the combo with sweet potato fries and a drink $4 more My hubby loves his meats pizza. The King pos sprouts were great- they had a little kick at the end with the hot honey. On our way home from a long, arduous day in the mountains, me and my family were HUNGRY, so we stopped at the first place we saw that was open, and hoped for the best. WE. WERE. BLOWN. AWAY. So I have this little belief that has so far been proven right... If a brewery has food, it's good food. And honestly, I can say that this keeps that belief up. My burger and fries were SPECTACULAR, and any chance to eat beer cheese is a good time for me. Also, my mom with her gluten allergy, said that throughout her years of terrible gluten free alternatives, this one was the most amazing, tasty, and was hard to believe it wasn't full of gluten, but somehow it was, and it was awesome! We sat outside, and they have a nice seating area, a lot of games in a grassy area and a few others scattered around, as well as a fire pit to give it a chill atmosphere Staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and honestly made a really good impression on us before we even started talking. We've come here a few times and have always had a good experience. This restaurant is counter service, so you can either order at the counter or scan the QR code at your table and order from your phone. When your food is ready, they call out your name. The only downside is that if you're sitting outside, it can be hard to hear when your order is ready. If you order through the QR code, though, you can enter your phone number and receive a text notification, which is really helpful. We did have one small issue once where I received a text saying our food was ready, but it wasn't. I think the tickets may have gotten mixed up and someone grabbed the wrong order. The staff fixed it quickly, though, so it wasn't a big deal. The soft serve is a great deal, and they rotate flavors regularly. The lemon flavor was our favorite. We've tried several of the sandwiches and burgers, and everything has been consistently good. They also offer a nice variety of wing flavors, and the wings are always one of our go-to orders. Overall, it's a cute spot with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the patio is dog-friendly. Been to Great Basin in Minden a bunch of times. Love the beer garden out back, good spot to bring the kids, and the beer list is solid. No complaints there. The food is the problem, specifically the burger bun. It's dry and way too much bread. It completely takes over the burger and I ended up just pulling it off and eating the patty. Honestly a plain bun from Safeway would be better. Bread makes or breaks a sandwich and this one breaks it. Won't be getting a burger here again. Wings were pretty good. Sauce was good, just a little too smoky for me. To the owner: don't take my word for it, go ask your customers what they think of the bun. I'd bet nobody says they like it. Easy fix. read more

Staying in Genoa for the week to get out of the heat of Fresno. The last time we were here we never drove into Minden. Had we known Great Basin was so delicious, we would have definitely come. First you order and then you sit and when the buzzer you're holding lights up and starts buzzing, you go back to the counter to retrieve your food. While you wait you can fill up your drink cup, get napkins, and ketchup. Hubby ordered the mushroom burger and I ordered the BLT with avocado. Super yummy sandwiches and fries were hot, delicious, and flavorful. We opted for canjun fries. There are plenty of choices. We will definitely come back again when we're in town. Loved the atmosphere here! The people were really kind and the view of the mountains were spectacular. They had a great beer selection too. Food was tasty, very large portions (ie fried zucchini was huge) but I thought the BYO pizza price was astronomical. It's $22 base.. and either $3 or $4 even for something like hot honey. We got four toppings for $36, which is much more expensive than all other pizzas. Worst part was we couldn't taste the honey and there were barely pineapples on it. I've been to this Great Basin location about half a dozen times now. I love lots about it but still think there's some room for improvement. First things first, the outdoor space and fun family friendly atmosphere can't be beat here. They have the best bar hang out experience ever with a huge property, outdoor games, large indoor and outdoor seating areas, and plenty of food and drink choices for everyone. The service here is decent. You walk up to the counter or kiosk to order and then you get a text when your food is ready and you'll have to walk over to pick it up. Wait times can be long when it's busy, but I've never been unsatisfied with the wait times. I think the biggest area of improvement at GB is the food and drink consistency. Most of the time the drinks here are good, but sometimes GB beer is spotty and other times the cocktails are made inconsistently between bartenders. The food also varies quite a bit. I've had very undercooked burgers and unseasoned chicken tenders from here. But I've also had fantastic pizza and their buffalo chicken Cobb salad is killer. There are a lot of younger employees in the kitchen and I wonder if high turnover or poor training is to blame for inconsistent product. Overall I'll keep coming to this GB location because of its vibe and unbeatable outdoor atmosphere. The food can be up and down but it's been good most of my visits and I'll just stick to the things I know are great. If you haven't been over here yet, make a stop. We found a spot inside to eat-- they have a nice outdoor area too. The menu is pretty much the same as the other locations. I was expecting the same quality as the other locations. Felt the pizza didn't have any special taste to it and the Brussels sprouts were a little too heavy on the sauce. The cheese fries were okay. Didn't try the pretzel so can't speak to that one. Yesterday we went to Great Basin Brewing for lunch. It is a restaurant where you get in line to place your order and they text you when it is ready. They had a fun area outside so if you have little ones they have yard games set up for them to play. We both ordered the Buffalo Chicken Cobb salad. We both really enjoyed the salad. They did not skimp on the chicken, blue cheese and bacon! Also the lettuce mix was plentiful and fresh with lots of cherry tomatoes, onions and a boiled egg. It had very good blue cheese dressing. Ambiance is nice and probably what brings people in. The staff were nice and the place was clean. The food wasn't great. Very greasy. The hot wings had a strange taste like they use liquid smoke, maybe. My husband liked them but I'm not sure why they taste like that. The burgers didn't have much flavor. Gayle does a huge amount of community volunteer and is sometimes busier retired than she was in her career. So late last Friday morning as I was finishing up some charitable work myself, she declared that she was taking a break and that we should go out for Lunch. Hence began Gayle Bueller's Day Off - Rated G. During our drives to and from the gym at the Douglas Community Center, we've noticed the building progress of Great Basin Brewing. Maybe a couple weeks ago Yelp Reno ran a video on Instagram about it. More recently, NextDoor, a local Facebook page, and word-of-mouth told us it was time to check this place out. The inside of Great Basin Brewing is wide open, with lots, of light, a lot of tables to choose from, several big TV screens, a separate beer bar, and an order counter (either in person or via kiosk). As we arrived just after Lunch hour, the place was manageable busy and not too noisy. As not to take any chances with seating, Gayle found a nice table, while I ordered our meal. The beer came out right away, while our food arrived soon after, via going back up to the counter and fetching it. We ended up ordering a lot of food for the money.. That included Beer (Milk Stout for both of us), a Green Chile Burger for Gayle, a Patty Melt for me, and a basket of fries for the table. I really enjoyed my Patty melt which as expected was a bit on the greasy side. Gayle thought the meat on her burger was very good, but really didn't pick up any taste in the Green Chile. We would have been happy with half the portion of the fries provided, but yet we ate most of them anyway. We'll be happy to return here, whether together or with friends. On our list to try would be a regular cheese burger, pizza, other beer choices, and outdoor seating (in season). Now here's a couple interesting oddities: 1. We can in through the back doors which requires you to PUSH to get in and PULL to get out. I thought that most fire codes require the opposite? 2. Pulling into the parking areas requires some planning and maybe a unique turn or 2. One main IN option is 1 way, which means you shouldn't leave that way, even though that looks logical enough. OUT finally makes sense, kind of. 3. Ketchup and Mustard are free and plentiful. A small dish of Ranch is $1.50 extra. By my Midwest standards, that's blasphemy. ...... You're still here? This Great Basin is different than the one in Carson City. Their service model is order from the kiosk or at counter, kind of confusing, sit down if you can find a seat, we were lucky, then they call your name out to come pick up your food. It is very loud in here so hard to hear your name. They place the food on a countertop that does not have heat lamps and wait for the whole order to be ready to call your name. We watched one order sit for about 10 minutes before it was call. Enough on that. The craft beer was very good and our pizza was good. There are a couple of things that went on here that I do not like to see at restaurants, employees drinking behind counter and they were preparing dipping sauces on the pick up counter. The place was a bit hectic and not very organized but they are new. Because of the food and beer we will give them another shot. read more
