Sad to say this but it was awful. Don't let this be the only experience memory you have of Chicago tavern / thin crust / cracker crust pizza. This was way too thin, greasy and salty I wanted to love this place but I just can't, the flavors were terrible quality. Come on Mike! I met his daughter. Nice people and cute inside but who cares about that when you want actual good food? The best Chicago pizza is in Rockford, IL! (The hometown of classic rock band Cheap Trick! And The Rockford Peaches ) Go to Linos on E State street- your mind will be blown, no doubt. That is top quality in every way. Second is The Capri on Riverside Third is a tie between Sams and Gerry's and Nunzios. (All in Rockford about an hour from the city of Chicago!) Stepping into Chicago Mike's Pizza in Gardnerville feels like entering a classic neighborhood pizzeria straight out of Chicago. The red and white checkered tablecloths, ample seating, and walls adorned with both local and Chicago-themed memorabilia set the perfect atmosphere. Our server, Jamie, was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We ordered the Beary Special thin-crust pizza, topped with real sausage, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, and black olives. It arrived steaming hot, with a generous amount of toppings. The crust was perfectly crispy--just the way my Chicago-born husband loves it. My sis and I went for the first time today. Very impressed! We were greeted right at the door with a big smile. You rarely see customer service like this. I work in a customer service job and this is what I strive for. And of course, the pizza was great too! The sauce had a unique taste, tangy and sweet at the same time. And love how the topping was underneath the cheese. (There was another pizza place that used to do this but it's been out of business for years.) And the vibes and atmosphere in general was homey and nostalgic. The lady who waited on us went above and beyond. We definitely plan to return. read more

This place has a Chicago vibe. With its Chicago sports memorabilia to the awesome idea to have a map of Chicago that people that are from the can put a marking pin in to show where they are from. The food pretty Chicago legit as they have all the items like the gardenar and sport pepper imported in from Chicago. They even get their cheese from Wisconsin. The service was great as well. If you are in the area and have spent any time in Shy Town you should check out this place. If you are not from Shy town it is ok, check this place out for some good Chicago style food. read more

Best pizza around! Being that I travel all over for work and that I'm a huge pizza eater. I would definitely say this is one of my favorite spots. Our family goes there every Friday. We ordered garlic bread with cheese, Cesar salad, and two types of deep dish pizza. Our garlic bread didn't have cheese which the waitress noticed as she put it on our table and offered to have them re-make it (we declined). The owner and waitress came to bring us our pizzas. The oven turned quit working so part of each pizza was slightly dark. The owner apologized and took 1/2 price off of our pizzas. They were still completely edible and we only accepted the half price offer after we refused them remaking the pizzas altogether as she originally offered. We had good conversation with both the waitress and owner, service was attentive. We would definitely return if we were in the area again. read more

The decor inside is basically all things Chicago, and there's a decent-sized eating area. The deep dish and the thin crust pizzas are both favorites. They have the best pizza hands down of any other place in northern Nevada. My Wife and I eat here semi-regularly, and the food is always awesome. Don't know why this restaurant was empty on a Sunday evening, but we dropped in with our group of 6 and had a marvelous experience! We tried a deep dish and a thin crust pizza. The sauce was generous with a nice zing. The cheese on the deep dish was thick as it should be, and its crust almost like pastry. The thin crust was nicely crackly, but not hard or dry. All had garden or Caesar salads, which were very crisp and fresh. Sodas and ice teas were huge and reasonably priced. The two servers were very friendly and pros. I have lived in the Carson Valley my entire life and find a true joy in our small town hospitality. However, in my recent visit to Chicago Mike's Pizza, I was so disheartened by the lack of respect by the owners of this pizza place. The miscommunication started when my mom placed an order ahead of time, intending to give Chicago Mike's plenty of time to make the pizza since it was the day of graduation. When we arrived, the servers had boxed up the pizza and were extremely upset to find out that we were looking to eat in the restaurant rather than take it to go. Instead of offering to place the pizza on a pan, they gave us the boxes and then came over to the table to explain how eating pizza from the box looked "tacky" and that this was now a "full service restaurant." Now I have no objection to these owners wanting to make this a "fancy pizzeria." However, to speak to another human with such a disrespectful tone was surprising and infuriating. My mom was simply trying to be helpful in calling in the order early, but instead she felt ashamed and humiliated simply because there was a miscommunication. Chicago Mikes, there have been many pizza places in the building you now inhabit. If you want to outlast the others by building a "full service--fancy pizzeria" then I respectfully suggest you begin by improving your hospitality. I hope it goes well for you, but because you disrespected my mom you have lost my business. read more

Gayle was off to the Bay Area for a couple days, and I was holding down the fort here in Genoa. Later in the afternoon of Day 1, I was driving back from the Transfer Station on a recycle run, and spied Chicago Mikes Pizza. With visions of Lou Malnati's dancing in my head, I decided that some to-go deep dish would be a great choice for my evening meal. Chicago Mikes building kind of looks like Pizza Hut architecture, which is where this comparison will end. What I found inside was a roomy dining area, checkered tablecloths, friendly folks, and a nice menu of thin crust and deep dish pizzas, plus appetizers, salads, and sandwiches (including Italian Beef and Chicago Hot Dogs!). I waited patiently for my small deep dish order (I think it was Mike's favorite), and almost as soon as I could say "Da Bears", I was on my way home with a heavy pizza box of goodness. They say that a small deep dish will serve 2-3 people. In my case (at 2 pieces per), my order lasted me for 2 Dinners and a Lunch. These were great meals (with salad and a beer), with my only caution being that it's better to heat the slices rather than microwave them. I'll be back. read more

Had two Chicago dogs with fries. They were great. They were classic Chicago dogs with the bright green relish tomatoes and the peppers Chicago dogs have. The hot dog itself was delicious with a snap when you bite into it. I recommend Mikes for the Chicago dogs and their pizzas. read more

I'm generally a little skeptical whenever a restaurant claims to have "Chicago" pizza. I've had a lot of pizzas in Chicago so I think I'm a fair critique of any pizza deemed Chicago quality. Most of the time, Chicago pizza outside of Chicago is good marketing to reel people in. If a restaurant can really make pizza as good as they can in Chicago, then there's no need to say that your pizza is equivalent to a pizza in Chicago. You simply make great pizza and that's enough for the hungry patrons. My wife and I tried Chicago Mike's a couple of times. Our first time we ordered the thin crust and the second time we got the deep dish. The thin crust puts the emphasis on thin! It was the thinnest crust I have ever seen. It was slightly crispy yet still soft and a quality pizza. The crust did not hold as well when reheated the next day. The deep dish was the real winner. The bottom layer of crust was about medium height compared to many Chicago deep dish pizzas. It is less of a fluffy bread and more of a flaky crust. It had the perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings. Chicago Mike has one of the best deep dish crusts even compared with the crusts found in Chicago. Instead of discarding the thick crust around the edge to the dogs, it was savored as much as a bite in the middle. It also tasted just as good when reheated the next day. read more

Gave Chicago Mike's a try on a recmendation from a co worker who loves it. Let me preface this review with, I grew up back east and love pizza with a homemade crust, lots of sauce with spices in it and not a lot of cheese. Also belive that if you can't make a good cheese pie everything else you put on it is a cover up. Crust was very thin and a bit soggy (we had take out that may explain soggy) sauce was ok and had a good amount of cheese. The large salad was enough for 1-1/2 people so we ended up getting 2 more for the 4 of us. The service was fast, helpful and polite. I'll be back to give it one more try but thinking it really not my style of pie. And yes it's a pie. read more

We visit Mike's once a week, maybe every other. In my travels and experience I realize it's not the greatest Chicago style pizza. But in north Nevada, it will definitely do. We really enjoy a few of their salads and starters such as garlic bread, fried mushrooms and mozzarella sticks. A bit pricey but they're a decent start to the meal. Occasionally, we order a deep dish pizza and get to our destination only to find a thin crust. We don't complain we just eat it. Finally, we made it a point to double check at the register. We had created a tradition by where we stop on the way to the grocery store for a big pizza and eat it in the car or if weather permitted, the park. Recalling the events of Friday, December 30, 2018. We ordered a pizza to go on our way to the grocers. We were quoted a 25 minute wait time. We arrived 30 minutes later to find a dozen of our friends and asked if we could join. The server refused. Company policy. If you order a pizza to go...you can't stay. While a ridiculous rule, it's well within their right. But do they really think it's a strategy or a ploy? I guess I don't see the advantage to doing that. Do they really believe that other people in the restaurant are paying attention to when we walked in and when food arrives at our table? That's pretty paranoid. I tried to reason with the owner. After all, it didn't make sense that we see a group of friends, there's plenty of room for more, yet policy dictates you take your pizza and leave. The owner confronted us in front of the entire restaurant and vehemently argued that the rule cannot be bent, she is a direct relative of the owner and creator of the rules. It was a stand-off; an ultimatum, if you will. In anger, we told her to cancel our order. She very condescending said "it hadn't been made yet. You're not putting us out at all". So if you think about it... it wasn't REALLY going to be ready in 25 minutes. She's told a lie in there someplace. We then watched her yell at 3 of our friends. They were arguing because another rule states they cannot order food until the entire party has arrived. Btw, those 3 never arrived at all. I wonder what does the rule say about that? INTERESTING: Now the owner claims "the pizza was made and the employees ate it. So again, you didn't hurt us". I would've guessed this woman to be in her mid-to late 20's, not 14 years old. Mike's is a popular place and I understand they can make all the rules they want and turn folks away as they see fit. They have a huge following. I am only passing along my experience with the establishment. Read my reviews. Most are positive. You'll see I always try to be fair with patrons and owners while socializing and especially reviewing. Over the weekend, we revisited Mike's and I can still see the careless disregard for the customer and the pompous nature of the business. Not sure when and why it had to change. Round table who??? Overall we loved our first time here! All the times we've been in Gardnerville I don't know HOW we've gone this long without trying Chicago Mikes! To start off, we ordered the Gouda Mac and Cheese bites as an "appertizer." They were absolutely delicious, and next time we will have to get a double order to satisfy ourselves. We did hear from the locals they their salads are great, so we also got a garden side salad and a Caesar Salad to start, both were great. Their drinks also come in these giant cups, which our waiter made sure to keep full the whole night. We ordered a Cowboy pizza, "deep dish," large. This was more than enough pizza for a party of 3, we had 3 slices left over to take home. The pizza really did taste great, and my fiancée loved the thick crust, sauce on top and all the cheese. My biggest issue here is definitely the toppings. My goodness does this place skimp on the toppings. I could not imagine building my own pizza, paying almost $3 per topping only to find out how little there are. Really it felt like they rely so heavily on cheese and sauce. Writing this review now, the next day, I am almost forgetting which toppings were on our pie (it was Canadian bacon, pepperoni, sausage and bacon) because there were so few. I don't expect a pizza to be completely covered in toppings 100% of the time, but there were plenty of bites without sausage or Canadian Bacon, which was disappointing considering how delicious they both were. Our server, John, was absolutely amazing. He made sure our drinks were always full, and had a lot of great recommendations as well as some great conversation. He suggested next time we come in we save space for the delicious cheesecake, and let us know that the meatballs are made daily (I LOVE meatballs), so come back to try a sandwich. I have to say, the real bad taste in my mouth comes from reading other reviews here. Complaints about staff not wearing masks (kitchen staff at least. Our server had a mask on and so did the other server, but none of the kitchen staff had masks on properly, so beware if you're a stickler for that kind of thing), and I could definitely see this being the kind of place to flat out not serve a customer they disagree with, or even come off as rude to some people.
