WOW!!! Awesome food. FIRST time dining for dinner there. Was Not expecting the HUGE portions. There were only 2 of us dining. We ordered 2 appetizers, 1 cocktail per person, and 2 entrees (+ a desert to go). We left with 4 to-go boxes (+ the desert box). The prices was Surprising low considering how HUGE the ​portion are. Our server, Dennys, was so on top of things. Never had to wait for extras we needed (to go boxes, etc.) more than 3-4 minutes, even tho we said it was Not urgent and just whenever there was time. The atmosphere it neat. All the decor was fascinating to look at. Could probably spend 5 hours Just looking at everything throughout the place. The only thing we were bummed about was that when orsering rhe mashed potatoes, it didn't come with gravy. That's only on Friday's when they have their meatloaf dinner. But that's okay. We were in Carson City, Nevada, around prime dinner time. Since we were unfamiliar with the area, we Yelped to find dining options. We wanted a place that had a varied menu. I wanted a hearty hot meal in a sit down restaurant. We landed on Red's Old 395 Grill. Great choice. All right folks, once when you walk into this place. It's loud with a lot of visuals. Visual and sensory overload. Lots to look at. They have super tall vaulted ceilings. Look up and there are stage coaches, carriage buggies', and a humongous much larger than life statue of a woman flying on a broomstick. Lots to look at all around incorporated into wall art and furniture art. A lot going on but not gaudy or mismatched. It coordinated well and gave a turn of the century 1900 Wild West fun house. The interior dining tables are mostly booth seating with a step up. Which I found to be odd and precarious. So be aware. The menu is on steroids. Hefty with a bunch of options including award winning bbq. They have burgers,, sandwiches, appetizers, salads, steaks, entrees, and desserts. I ordered a ribeye, the 10 pounce petite cut. It's MidWest grain feed. Juicy and tender, really soft tender. I ordered it rare and rare I got. It was tasty. Price was good as well. $40.99. Hubs had the pulled pork sandwich. Reds is a great place to share a meal with the family. My other half and I were visiting family and they brought us here for lunch. A total of 8 people and we fit perfectly in one of their booths. Very cool place. Lots to look at. A little on the mood side but that's because everyone is having fun! Our waitress was awesome! She was quick, everything was amazing and she kept in touch with us throughout our meal. The food here is fantastic! So good! The cornbread alone was so good! If you're anywhere near Carson City, this BBQ spot is worth the stop! The restaurant is packed with old-time Americana and vintage artifacts, giving you something interesting to look at everywhere you turn. They also have an incredible beer selection with well over 100 beers on the menu, so there's something for everyone. A word of advice make reservations if you can. The wait was nearly an hour and it's easy to see why. We started with the fry bread and the jalapeño bombs. The fry bread was delicious, but those jalapeño bombs were an absolute 10/10 and a must-order. We originally came for the prime rib, but unfortunately they had already sold out around 6 p.m., which was definitely disappointing. Thankfully, the food that did make it to our table erased that disappointment pretty quickly. We ordered the two-meat BBQ plate with ribs and brisket, and both were cooked to perfection. The meat was tender, smoky, and paired perfectly with their delicious BBQ sauce. We also tried the spicy pot pie, which was unlike any pot pie I've had before, in a good way. It reminded me of an enchilada baked inside a buttery, flaky crust, and it was fantastic. The service was equally impressive. I feel terrible that I can't remember our server's name because he absolutely deserves the recognition. He was friendly, attentive, and made our entire experience even better. Between the amazing food, outstanding service, and unique atmosphere, this ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Wow, what a place! We were at the Carson Hot Springs with the family for Father's Day and wanted to go out somewhere. Looking a barbecue this was the Top Reviewed. Christie helped us out she was great. We got the Deuce platter for two which was huge. also got salmon wood fired nice and juicy and Pulled pork sandwich very good smoky flavor, we've been to Texas a few times and this is right up there. Everything was really good and the salmon came out a little late and salad was forgotten and they went above and beyond and gave us the plate for free. Very fair prices. Atmosphere inside was like a theme park so much going on. Highly recommend definitely will be back! read more

The food was ordered and came out surprisingly quickly for such a large group. I went with the the ribs this time, I was very disappointed with the brisket on a prior visit. The ribs were passable but certainly not the best I've had. They were a little on the dry side. I ordered sides of steamed broccoli and fries. The sides were very nice portions. The broccoli was a little overcooked for my taste, I like them steamed with a little crunch but I cleaned them up nonetheless and the fries were pretty good. I have not had great experiences with their food. They're the only game in town and that's why they're so busy most occasions but still their food is not all that great read more

I went to Reds with three friends. I enjoyed my Pulled Pork Sandwich with beans and coleslaw. I thought the smoked meat was delicious with just the right amount of sauce to complement the meat without overpowering it. The sides were small portions, the beans had large chunks of sausages. Offered a discount and after expressing some frustration as to where her focus was aimed she dismissed the check. Server did not ask if we wanted Ranch or Blue Cheese. The order came with Ranch only. Very juicy wings, not over cooked. The skin and a of crunch so it was perfect. NOTE: messy, if you eat it right...hands only! I ordered the Smoke Beef Brisket. The brisket was smokey and tender. I could not taste the BBQ glaze... only the smoke. The brisket sits on top of a bed of fried onions... the onions are really crispy and really favorable. The side salad is a good size. I had some of the Steak Fries... really well seasoned and crispy. This is a longtime favorite in Caron City, NV. The food is really good here and enjoyed in a room full of antique vehicles, wagons & memorabilia. Our server, Elizabeth V, took great care of our table and kept our drinks full. The restaurant is found just off the main drag South Carson Street and also offers a nice outdoor dining area and bar. We kept our salads as low carb as possible, so I ordered my (pictured) Explosion Salad with no corn chips and subbed flat iron steak for the normally offered chicken. Fantastic salad! I really really want to like this place, but unfortunately I'm never quite satisfied with the food here. This time I ordered The Californian. The Chicken was good, but the bun was so crumbly, my sandwhich literally fell apart. It also comes with diced green chiles, but sadly they were cold. It was like they went right from a can into my sandwhich. The only thing that made up for it, was the excellent service we recieved from our Server, Jacob. The restaurant has really cool decor and it feels cozy, but for me the food falls short every time. I'm pretty sure I'll be back somewhere down the line, but it won't be any time soon. read more

Can usually expect a great dining experience but tonight wasn't the night. Took forever to get our drinks!! Asked for a soda halfway through the meal and never got it. But we did see our server stand at the bar and talk to the bartender for a good five minutes. Asked for our meats with no sauce, came with sauce. Asked for onions to be added to a salad no onions. The crispy onions that are supposed to be served on the Que for Two were not there, it was early in the evening so the fact that they supposedly ran out was weird. We do come here quite a bit and bring out of town guests, so it was disappointing to have a subpar experience. read more

The decor is western with authentic classic pieces like the turn of the century wagons, fire suppression vehicles, etc hanging from the ceiling. Our server provided wonderful service to our large party of 16. We were seated at 7pm and the prime rib special was already sold out. The smoked BBQ ribs were very flavorful. The meat fell off the bone. The smoked BBQ chicken was slightly overdone where the breast meat was dry.but the drumstick and thighs were tender. Everyone in our party enjoyed the selections they ordered. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Red'd Old 395 Grill. Food Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The ribs tasted stale and almost jerky-like, as if they had been sitting out too long or reheated multiple times. The basket of wings was cold in the middle and tasted as though they had simply been microwaved. They also tasted old and lacked freshness. The Jump Up and Kiss Me Chicken was overcooked and extremely dry. The flavor was just okay, but there was nothing particularly special about the dish. Service The service was very poor. Our waitress repeatedly rolled her eyes and barely checked on us to see if everything was okay. I had to repeatedly get up myself to ask for condiments, refreshments, and napkins. Management I was also disappointed with how the manager handled my concerns. After I explained our experience, her response was essentially, "Okay, I'll pass along your comments." She did not seem concerned or interested in making the situation better. Unfortunately, I understood why the service was so poor after speaking with the manager. A manager should set the standard for customer service, and in this case, I did not feel that there was much care or concern for the customers. I used to love going to Reds when they had the previous manager. He was always kind, attentive, and genuinely cared about the customers. The food was also delicious and tasted fresh. We had a 45 minute wait which I don't mind being that it was a Saturday night, but after being sat at our table it took more then 25 minutes for our server guy to come around and take our order for a soda and an Iced tea! As far as the food I think that we enjoyed your sample that was given at Taste of Downtown more than the almost $80 meal that my wife and I had that night! At this point in the lunch I became enraged and decided to write this review! And another this is it was supper hot in the restaurant! We were all sweating by the end! Finally at the end we all wanted to leave but our waiter ignored us for a good 20 minutes after we were all clearly done eating! Then we had to ask him for the check! A fun chill place with so much to look at. Great upbeat music. Comfy. Service was generally fine. My husband had the ribs. They were dry rub and he said they were really good. I wouldn't know because he didn't save me a bite. I appreciated that Red's offers petite steaks Red's is a small chain. The food is fine. Nothing over or undercooked, nothing wilted. The carrot green beans were fresh and perfectly prepared. The steak was ok - cooked medium rare as I requested. It just didn't taste like anything. The mash potatoes seemed powdered from a box and were not worth the calorie hit. The bread pudding was good but the strawberry sauce was bright red and very artificial. Ask for the sauce on the side. Overall, Red's was comfortable and had a great vibe. Service was good. Beer selection was top notch and the wine selection was not bad. We will definitely eat here again. read more

In the end, we both landed on the brisket sandwich. I chose baked beans and coleslaw for my sides, and my husband went with extra crispy French fries and coleslaw. Our food arrived quickly, and the brisket sandwich was piled high with smoky, tender brisket and a mountain of crispy fried onion strings. Honestly, we could have split it. The baked beans were especially good, with several different kinds of beans and a deep, rich flavor. The fries were hot and perfectly crispy. The coleslaw was... well, coleslaw. I've been to Red's dozens of times over the years I've lived in the area but I avoided it for a long time because I had an idea in my head that there were far better choices. While that's still partially true, my recent visits to Red's have proved it's worth to me! In the last week I've been in twice. Once for happy hour and once for dinner. Our dinner experience was wonderful. Great patio where our kids were able to be a bit more "free range" than inside. Our waitress was super attentive even though we were outside and the food was good. I was very impressed by Red's ahi tuna tacos and their French fries. I didn't remember them being as good in the past. I also really appreciate the large beer selection and rotating cocktail menu. The inside of Red's is somehow eclectic and perfectly themed at the same time, but if the weather is nice the large and secluded patio is the place to be. Unfortunately our happy hour experience was not as great. It took ages to get drinks and while I understand our large party of 15+ was difficult to serve, the waitresses all seemed frustrated and inconvenienced by our presence. Pretty strange for a party who was likely spending several hundred dollars. I'm still giving Red's four stars as I know this was an isolated event and hopefully won't happen again but just based off that visit would have been 3 stars. Overall, I enjoy Red's and will keep it in mind for the future. While I avoided it for many years, I think it's a worthy choice depending on what you're looking for. First, the good stuff. Hostess Izzy rocks, accommodating and personable. Servers Riley and Crystal ... they also rock, both were accommodating, attentive, friendly, had excellent menu expertise and they were personable! Hopefully, they will get the meager tip for their drink and appetizer service ... they are the only reason I left a tip. Moved to the other side of the restaurant for larger seating capacity. Server Hersh smiled only once, when he handed us the bill. Developing a personality when it's time for a tip is unacceptable. We went thru the entire meal without any drink refills, 2 of us didn't have set ups, veggies were cold ... those that came with meals were dry and cold ... they were cooked but not fresh and definitely cold. A additional side of vegetables was so cold, it was sent back. A different server returned with crunchy green beans, carrots and broccoli, warmed but raw. The broccoli that came with the Brisket was also raw and cold. The 2 Ribeye steaks at 48.99 each was pathetic. The meat was dry and very tough. The scalloped potatoes were inedible and left on the plate. The side of sweet potato fries were cold and they were replaced with sweet potato fries that were perfect. And an order of prairie fire beans was returned because they were lukewarm and filled with sausage ... they were returned because of the meat, ordered because it was thought to be a vegetarian side dish. NOT the servers fault. Paying 246.00 for a meal that was not only NOT consumed but it was not enjoyed by 4 of the 5 diners. The Hawaiian pizza was apparently good. The unforgivable part of this experience was that Hersh did not ask if everything was good after 2 dishes had been served. No refills on the iced teas, soda, beer or juice was offered until we asked for boxes. Servers need to earn their gratuities... they get an hourly wage for showing up to work, so the 21.00 for the drinks and the appetizer should go to Riley and Crystal. Oh and it wasn't noticed until we had left the restaurant but the beans that were sent back, we were still charged for them ... that is also a shoddy business practice because an alternative side dish was not offered to replace the one that was sent back . read more

I felt rushed the whole time we barely sat down and expected us to know what they had to drink like if we looked at the menu while waiting. She then left and came back asked what we wanted to drink and what food. Half way through our food she brings us boxes and the check. If that doesn't say get out I don't know what does. I will not be returning to this establishment or recommend it to anyone being that my experience was terrible. The workers could be a little nicer. read more

I am writing to share a positive review of Red's Old 395 Grill. My wife, my in-laws, and I recently visited, and it has easily become one of my favorite barbecue restaurants in Northern Nevada. As someone who appreciates great food, I ordered the Jalapeño Bacon Bomb appetizer. It included two stuffed jalapeños with your signature smoked ribs, melted mozzarella, melted cream cheese wrapped in crisp bacon. This jalapeño version of jalapeño poppers was the best I have ever had. The flavors created a savory taste, especially when accompanied by the barbecue sauce. After spending half the day at the Carson Springs, we were all starving. I ordered the Colossal for four, an assortment of barbecue ribs, slow-smoked chicken, and handmade sausages. This order included cornbread, mom's coleslaw, and prairie fire beans. The culinary display of barbecue paradise within a brown wicker basket took me back to my mom's barbecue. The meat was masterfully seasoned and tender, and the handmade sausages bursted with flavor as the juices within the casing exploded. This meal could have fed eight people. Red's Old 395 Grill is within my top 5 family restaurants in Northern Nevada. From the nostalgic turn-of-the-century antique relics to our waiter, who intuitively created this experience for my in-laws, who had never been to this establishment, I highly recommend this restaurant for families, students, or anyone on a budget. My first visit to Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson and I was blown away. The design is amazing and styled in old mining decor. Wagons and wheels hang from the vaulted ceilings. There is an old engine in the center of the dining area. Great bar, two actually. One is decorated with beer bottles to the ceiling. It is old West all the way. They have indoor and outdoor seating with a big wood oven on the patio. I didn't order the pizza last night from the wood oven in dining area, but I'm told it's phenomenal. We tried the grilled salmon served with a choice of two sides. A Caesar salad. Cajun chicken salad. Brisket plate. All delicious and unfortunately no room for dessert. Next visit I will try the peach cobbler. A magician visited out table and entertained us for several minutes. He was very good. Loved the vibe, the food and drinks.
