Breakfast burrito internal
Micah L.

If you wanna grab some grub and a good price and good portions look no further. It's nice about this place is that it has a fairly large dining area. Even when it's crowded I've never had to wait long to get a table. The menu consist of some basic diner food as well as some more pricey options. My main go to is either the chicken Parm meal which I think is only $10. The breakfast burritos is good, so is the chicken fried steak. Also ask them about their daily deal being that it changes. I've been here quite a handful of times and I've never had a rude server. Yes, sometimes you do have to wait a little. Through patients in perseverance you will endure. The bakery case on the outside of the restaurant. Is a little more miss than hit. I've tried both the brownie as well as the cupcakes. I believe that they're a little dry. Other than that, I like stopping by here when I'm gonna grab a quick bite that won't drain my wallet.

My family and I came up for a family reunion and stayed at this casino/hotel. Every morning we ate here and I'd say it was pretty decent food. It was pretty packed everyday, there would be a line out the door of people waiting to be seated! The food was average, not too bad. The first day I got a Bloody Mary and French dip with potato salad. I believe for dinner that night I got grande burrito with rice and beans, it was nothing too special but I ate the whole thing. The next day my family wanted to eat here yet again lol, so I got the joeys breakfast bowl with a side of sourdough toast, it was pretty good. I believe one of the other nights my cousin and I came down a grabbed some of the brownies that were outside the restaurant where you pay! They were really good, but super rich!! I think this place was a decent enough spot to eat at, it gave me more of like brunch vibes.

Prime Rib med rare

Wow, can't believe it's been over 7 years since my last review here. I was passing through on a Friday night and wanted to check out the C V Steak place inside the Carson Valley Inn, cause I hear they have a killer dinner deal for $29 including three courses. But we get there and the place is closed and undergoing renovations. The sign says opening April 25th, so oh well, I guess we'll go to the coffee shop restauant Katies. They have a prime rib special $18.99 for a 10 oz. cut served with salad and baked potato with veggies. The service was fine, not as nice as sitting in the steakhouse, but the food gets the job done. My food came out as ordered, med rare perfect. I liked my piece had a bigger portion of edge cap meat going around the eye. That's the most tasty part! The baked potato was cook perfect and I slathered a ton of butter in it! I'd say is was a good deal for $18.99. I just have to come back when the C V Steak reopens.

Came early for breakfast. Good service and ambiance. Food is the usual fare with breakfast, lunch, and dinner i had the waffle with bacon and it was very good. Check it out.

Chicken tortilla soup.

We went to the Carson Valley Inn last night because we wanted to go to the CV Steak House. It was closed so we decided to eat at Katie's since we were there. I didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised. My husband ordered the meatloaf dinner that came with soup or salad, mashed potatoes with gravy and sautéed vegetables. He ordered the chicken tortilla soup instead of the salad. He said everything was delicious. Nothing fancy, just good comfort food. I ordered the tater skins. They were a little burnt and overcooked but I decided to eat them instead of sending them back. To my surprise, they were quite tasty! Our waitress, Jeana, was friendly and very efficient. If you are going out to eat for just good food with no frills or ambiance, try Katie's.

Excellent food and service. Came in for fried chicken night. We also ordered the Cajun Alfredo with shrimp and broiled salmon. All desserts were delicious and freshly baked.

Over-cooked omelet and dry bread

We been coming here for years as we go to Tahoe often and stop on the way up the hill or back down. Always been great food until now. It had been awhile since we ate here and the food was terrible. We met with friends for breakfast since it was too windy for the Balloon Races. They never been here and so we told them what a great place it was to eat. It was an embarrassment an we won't be back. Too many other good places to eat. Here are the complaints: 1. Our guests ordered a scramble and it came on a huge plate in a tiny cup. The plate was empty. Toast was separate and came much later. And early in the morning they were out of sourdough bread. 2. One of our guests ordered the bacon and eggs, it was slimy and the hash browns were burned. 3. My omelet was over-cooked and rubbery and very dry inside. No taste at all even with the filling (chili peppers and spinach). The forgot the cheese. How do you get an omelet with no cheese unless you order it that way? 4. The rye bread was so dry and stale that smothered in butter it was still hard to swallow. 5. Our server was not friendly and did not want to be bothered with anything other than running from table to table. We would have sent every plate back to the kitchen except we did not want to embarrass our friends. They were not happy with their meals either and it reflected on us since we told them how great the restaurant was for meals. This place needs a new manager and new cooks.....ones that can actually cook a decent meal.

latest Monte Christo sandwich

Well, I have found one redeeming dish here at Katie's, and that'd be the Monte Christo Sandwich! Very few place even offer this sandwich much less do it right! Another deal I found here is the 1/2 carafe of house wine, it's just $4.00! 4 bucks for what amounts to 3 and a little bit more glasses of wine. House wine is $3.00 a glass , so getting the 1/2 carafe is a deal! You can even order a whole bottle of just $8.00! Such a deal! My Monte Christo sandwich was perfect, basically a deep fried french toast sandwich layered with turkey, ham and cheese with an extra french toast in the middle, what's not to like? Served with fries and a wonderful house made raspberry syrup dipping sauce. Get this id you come here, just for something different!

Simple Diner menu cooked with style and experience... served with old style "Diner Love"

I figured if I'm an hour plus to make it home to cook, why not stop here to try their dinner offerings. I ordered their 12 oz prime rib medium rare, it comes with soup or salad, choice of potatoes or rice and veggies. The salad was nothing special but I asked for ceasar dressing and the was an additional upcharge for ceasar dressing, really!, the vegetables were diced squash that was an afterthought because they were way way overcooked. I did not know of many restaurants that don't know how to properly cook prime rib but this was one of them. They literally ruined a perfectly good piece of meat by brining the prime rib. Prime rib should not be ruined by brining it, The meat was overly salty due to the brining method. I think if I'm ever in the vicinity again, I will either try another restaurant or try their chicken fried steak instead.

The food here is very popular breakfast food, but they do serve all day till dinner even. Service is super friendly and efficient. The inside has I good view of the airport runways and planes. The full menu is posted online on their FB page. We had some lunch and did our meeting. I had a cheeseburger with fries and my boss had the Citation sandwich, which was roast beef with cheese and caramelized onions. My burger came with fries and we shared an order of onion rings. My burger was pretty good, cooked med rare as ordered. Pretty standard burger. My boss liked his Citation sandwich with the caramelized onions. The onion rings were decent as well. He had coffee too, and it was kept full and hot by the server. I'm glad this little restaurant is out here at the airport, it's a good place to have if you fly in and need food right away. The little airport I have in Redding has a Chinese restaurant with a view of the runways! I'll take little airports over big ones any day!

So there we were. We…read morewanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. They truly deserve to be packed as they have the formula for success, great service, good food, and a clean environment..

And we brought some Bay Area friends with us. We also came in mid-week to avoid any crowd potential. Our evening began at the bar with a round of Picon Punch, the official drink of the State of Nevada. I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. JT Basque is family generation owned, and we certainly felt welcome and well taken care of. The rustic decor was also cool, as was the happy energy in the dining room. We promise to come back and not be strangers.

Why is this THE ONE when it comes to Basque dining? Well... It's steeped in history in a way you can feel from the moment you step onto the wooden sidewalk out front. You'll see it on the walls, hear it in the conversations, and taste it in the food. This is simply a special place. You'll feel truly at home, and that's because the same family has operated it for countless generations, passing down legendary hospitality like a family heirloom. From friendly greetings in the "lobby" to the homey vibes and warm servers, you'll love every moment. Doesn't hurt that the food is delicious and plentiful. Everything is made from scratch with a lot of love, and each dish is huge and hearty. Lamb chops and lamb shoulder steaks are always A+ but be sure to order the desired temp because they don't always ask. Steaks are solid too. Same tip as above. And for all three, don't forget to get them smothered in whole cloves of roasted garlic. Personally I usually can't say no to sweetbreads at a Basque spot, and that's the case here as well. They're served in a rich, garlicky and well seasoned gravy, studded with red and green peppers and whole cloves of garlic. It's the perfect dish to use up the extra bread because you won't want to leave a drop. Make sure you bring a couple bucks to leave up on the ceiling! The bartenders can show you how to make em stick. And of course, have a picon punch!

The ambiance is classic, nice, yet rustic cabin like feeling. The menu looked good and our server informed us of the specials. I decided to get the salmon and the others decided on the steak special. My guest opted for an old fashioned, which he said was one of the better tasting ones he's had. The calamari came out nice and hot. Tasting crispy and good, and tasted fresh. My salmon came out light and fresh, with amazing Brussel sprouts. My guests steaks came out perfectly cooked and flavourful. The service was impeccable and our server continued to check on our dining experience. All the staff were super friendly, which made for an amazing dinner. We came kind of late, around 8:30pm and had a party of 8, and at first they said they could not seat us but then Paula (who I assume is the manager) was able to get us in at 9:00pm and she was so kind and personable! The table and chairs we sat at were nice and study and the dining area of the restaurant was just as nice as the entrance. Our server was friendly and attentive and our wait was reasonable. Now for the negatives. Unfortunately the food was not a hit for anyone in our party. My sister-in-law got the chicken pasta and gave it a 2.5/5, she aid the chicken was overcooked, the sauce was runny, and it wasn't very flavorful. I got the Brussel Sprouts and my husband and I give them a 3/5, they were soft but not crispy and the flavor was okay. The Mac & Cheese was a 2/5 on its own but much better when we added salt/pepper, it also had no flavor but the texture was perfect. My 3 kids all got a kids pizza and they all barely ate any so I'd give another 2/5, they said they remind them of the pizza they get at school. My husband's meat pizza was also a 2/5, the crust seemed like maybe it wasn't all the way cooked & he said it tasted like a frozen pizza. My nephew gives the kids grilled cheese a 3/5. And my brother said the chicken BLT was good and he gives it a 4/5 and said he would order it again. Lastly, I ordered a wedge salad but it never came, also after I brought it to my waitresses attention she forgot to take it off the bill, but she quickly fixed it at the end and again was very kind. Unfortunately we will not be going back even though we are staying at the resort next door. We just feel for the price we would like to try other places in Tahoe instead. But I think they are worth a try if you're at the resort.
