I'm spending some down time at Tahoe outta the heat, but I needed to take a important meeting with one of my big bosses outta LA, so I told him to land the plane in Minden. It's the nearest practical airport to me. South Lake Tahoe is too busy and at high altitude as is the Truckee airport. I takes more experience to deal with the high altitude. The Taildragger Cafe is right here at the Minden Airport. Basically walking distance from where you can park the plane. The food here is very popular breakfast food, but they do serve all day till dinner even. Service is super friendly and efficient. The inside has I good view of the airport runways and planes. The full menu is posted online on their FB page. We had some lunch and did our meeting. I had a cheeseburger with fries and my boss had the Citation sandwich, which was roast beef with cheese and caramelized onions. My burger came with fries and we shared an order of onion rings. My burger was pretty good, cooked med rare as ordered. Pretty standard burger. My boss liked his Citation sandwich with the caramelized onions. The onion rings were decent as well. He had coffee too, and it was kept full and hot by the server. I'm glad this little restaurant is out here at the airport, it's a good place to have if you fly in and need food right away. The little airport I have in Redding has a Chinese restaurant with a view of the runways! I'll take little airports over big ones any day! read more

Great relaxed old fashioned diner feel with casual, friendly atmosphere and very good diner food. I got up to get another napkin and the waitress/bar tender admonished me for not just calling her over, lol. Fun to watch the private planes taxi back and forth past the windows. It's our fave when in Carson Valley. read more

I'd heard that this little airport located between Minden and Carson had fantastic breakfast. Just take Airport Road from US395 and go east. Follow it to the end and there you are. Lots of parking, at least when I went. The dining area has lots of light from the outside with views of the planes and tarmac. I guess if you have a plane you can land here and just park and walk into the cafe and go fly off to somewhere else to eat. The friendly server was right over and served coffee. Looking over the menu, I ordered a build my own omelet ($10.50) with cheese, spinach, mushrooms and sausage. $10.50 is a good price for any omelet these days and these here are FOUR egg omelets. I got hashbrowns and toast too. Wow, when my breakfast arrived, it was huge! The omelet was stuffed high and had lots of chopped sausage in it .... heavy on the meat ... OK! The hashbrowns were some of the most perfect and tasty hashbrowns I ever had! The toast was buttered nice, but you do have to request jelly as it's not on the table like most places ... maybe too many customers stealing jelly off the table! I'll say, people were right saying this Taildragger Cafe has some great breakfast and low prices too! read more

Went there today for the first time and it was great. You can look out the window and see the great little planes. The menu is large and service great. My friend had the grilled chicken with some kind of cheese and a salad I just had a dinner salad that was full of good stuff and a bagel with cream cheese . Highly recommend read more

A tiny restaurant located at the minden airport. It's cool bc you can watch all the planes takeoff and land while grabbing a bite. It was busy when we arrived and I realized it's bc the prices are unbeatable! I haven't seen prices this affordable in a decade! Cold food, extremely rude waitress. They got my friends burger mixed with mine( one with bacon one without) the waitress says just pull the bacon off and put it on the other burger, all with attitude. We said we'll deal with it... she walks away shaking her head. read more

Had the chicken tortilla soup at 5 pm today. Maybe most of the contents of the soup was gone by the time I had it, but there was hardly any substance to this soup. If I go back I will not order their soups. For a bowl of soup, this was a serious dud. I mean this was a terrible disappointment. Service is always great and the ambiance sitting in the middle of the Carson Valley is amazing. Most of the time the food is great. This was probably the exception. read more

We stopped for lunch here on Monday, Sept 30. I've flown into a lot of airport cafes but this one ranks up toward the top. We have a Husky so needed a spot with outside seating. The Taildragger filled the bill with very reasonable menu, excellent food and service. I had a hint of what was to come after I walked in the place. Lots of old timers inside so figured it had to be good and reasonable. Nice bar with windows out to the planes. If you have a dog with you, you let them know you are outside and they will bring out a menu. You order inside and you food is brought out to your table. My burger was excellent and came with old fashioned fries. Large enough that I needed a box for the last third. Ample portion of fries also. My wife ordered a half turkey sand with minestrone soup that tased like homemade. They have long hours starting at 6am and closing at 8pm seven days a week. Easy parking close to the restaurant. Nice feeling inside with the bar and quite a few tables and plent of glass for views. The only negative is now with Homeland Security, there is a security fence that is a bit jail like separating the outside seating and the airplanes. Otherwise, it checks all the boxes and even works for dinner. read more

Fun place to fly or drive into and eat a hearty meal! The restaurant location is at the Minden-Tahoe Airport (MEV/KMEV). It's a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Mostly we come for breakfast though. The portions are large enough to split (of take home leftovers...!) The restaurant has a full bar and sits just adjacent to where you can watch various aircraft and gliders taxi, take off, land and park. They're also always good about collecting toys around Christmas time for poor local families. It's a simple cafe / diner atmosphere; nothing fancy, but it doesn't need to be. The servers vary on their attention / ability to multitask but all seem to be friendly. Hope you enjoy. Located about a mile off the 395 N between Minden, NV & Carson City. read more

I love anything when it comes to "aviation" and I love eating great food, and when you combine aviation and delicious food, it makes for a great day. My "day" was combined as I enjoyed an amazing breakfast at Taildragger Cafe, located at the Minden-Tahoe airport, in Minden, NV. I simply CANNOT RESIST an "aviation themed" restaurant located at an airport, with a view of the runway! I actually visited this amazing restaurant on Thursday morning, March 25, 2021. Yes... it's taken me that long to post this review. Sorry for the long delay. I was on vacation. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the "aviation" decor, and the great view of the runway of the Minden-Tahoe airport. I sat at the bar so I could savor the view of the runway, the airport and the nearby mountains. The dining room is very spacious, and even though the COVID virus is nearing an ending, the tables and furniture were placed "socially distanced" apart from each other. The decor of the dining room reflects on the "aviation theme" of the restaurant. Anywhere you sit in the dining room, you'll be treated to a great view of the airport and the runway. If you like airplanes and great food, this is YOUR restaurant! Taildragger Cafe offers daily specials, and when my friendly hostess, Renee greeted me, and told me today's breakfast "special" was "Machaca con Huevos," which I could not resist. This amazing breakfast is not on the restaurant's menu, as it's a "special" that appears occasionally. When it comes to anything "Mexican" for breakfast... count me on board, as Mexican food is my favorite. The seasoned, shredded pork was mixed with scrambled eggs, and covered with fresh, in-house-made salsa. I was offered the choice between hash brown potatoes or "home fry" style of potatoes, and I chose hash brown, as I haven't yet figured out how to cook hash browns properly, after all these years. I was offered a choice of toast, corn or flour tortillas, and... naturally, I chose corn tortillas. A small cup of spicy, red salsa was served on the side. My breakfast was simply delicious! The pork machaca was tender and juicy, the scrambled eggs blended well with the seasoned pork, and the in-house-made fresh salsa topped the pork and eggs, and made for an amazing combination. The hash brown potatoes were cooked to perfection, as they were golden brown on the outside, with just the right amount of "crunch," and tender and white on the inside. The three corn tortillas... what can I say about warm corn tortillas for breakfast? Does it get any better? The warm tortillas were simply delicious. I loved the small cup of spicy, house salsa served on the side. Taildragger Cafe features outstanding dining, with friendly service, and as you enjoy your amazing meal, you'll be treated to airplanes in action at the Minden-Tahoe airport. When you combine friendly service, amazing food, rock-bottom prices, and a "million dollar" view of a municipal airport runway, Taildragger Cafe adds up to a "destination" restaurant, any way you look at it. Full bar, food is pretty good, have had the chef salad there, it's enough for two meals, totally loaded with all the goodies. Have also had breakfast there, (a breakfast croissant), prices are really reasonable, their food portions are pretty generous. It's at the small airport in minden, so kinda fun to watch the plane activity while dining. read more

What's there to say when you get to enjoy your food while looking at planes come and go. It's a very cool experience to watch folks pop out of their planes, walk into the restaurant from the flight line and have a bite to eat. My family normally stops here when we are coming back from Kirkwood as it's a great stopping point before getting back home to Reno. This place has surprisingly the best tater tots around. The burgers are also very well cooked and it's very reasonable. Less than 10 bucks a head with drinks normally is all the damage is. Great little spot to stop over to chill, watch some airplanes and relax with good food. read more

Tables are spaced around the parameter, there is a full service bar with counter seating too. This is as simple as it gets, quick and easy menu, coffee...yes, ready to order? yep Denver Omelet hash browns, english muffin. side of bacon. C had easy overs with biscuits and gravy. She took half of her order home. I cleared the plate, honestly made as though you were at the house of a friend who was a short order cook for fun. We came for breakfast and found just a few folks in the cafe, but it was snowing and between breakfast and lunch times. We found our meals to be very good, coffee refilled frequently, and the staff friendly and wonderful. We stayed a while after finishing our meals, sipping our coffees, and talking. We left after about an hour and 45 minutes, and by this time the lunch crowd had arrived. The environment is simple, but open with seating at tables and the bar. It has a full bar. Windows look out upon the airport which would be good during other times of the year when snow is not falling. Prices were very reasonable. If you're an individual or individuals that like good food, good prices, good service, and a very causal, comfortable environment, you would probably enjoy the Taildragger Cafe. read more

Another great breakfast! The steak & eggs are the best deal in town. The owners and crew here do a fantastic job of following all state Covid guidelines for which we are gratefull. Got screamed at to wear a mask for 5 feet from the door to the table. We flew in from a free state and haven't worn masks for 7 months so we didn't have one. For the time it took her yelling and running over with masks, we could have been seated in the flu free chairs. However I observed other patrons walking around maskless with no incident. It looks like they only harass the fly in patrons. The burrito was ok, but this place was a real drag. read more
