Recommend the BLT; thickness and flavor bacon was perfect! Cold pastrami was a good quality meat. Note: only the fries come standard sandwiches. The other sides (onion rings, cup soup) are $2.00 upgrade. We tried the apricot coffee cake ($12.45). It was good (fresh and moist) but couldn't find anything special. Small and charming and the bakeries super yummy. This is one of many Schat bakeries owned by extended families. The selection is not nearly as large as the original but the quality is very high and you can tell everything is done with care by the decorations and presentation. Absolutely love the atmosphere here it's cozy, quiet, and welcoming. The customer service is always great and makes the experience even better. I ordered the Coco-Moco with a delicious cream puff, and it was amazing. One of my favorite things here is definitely the pizza bagel, it never disappoints. BEWARE: The cashiers will tip themselves at a high percentage if you do not pay attention and without your permission. This is the first time this happened to me and it is extremely off putting. The service wasn't good in the first place, and I believe my cashier purposely distracted me while she added a large tip. The food was slightly overpriced for its quality. 3/9/2025: First-Born Daughter and I made a point visiting Paul Schat's second bakery location which is extremely close to the Kingsbury Grade rather than visiting the Carson City location. This location is a larger restaurant establishment located next door to a casino--the restrooms are inside the small casino. We ordered 2X hot Pastrami sandwiches . . . We ordered at the Cash Register, take a number, and wait for our sandwiches being delivered to our table. Unfortunately, the sandwiches had MUCH to be desired, i.e., the sandwiches were not fabulous which was surprising. Sadly, the sandwiches were not loaded with Pastrami as MOST establishments load the meat piled high. We won't be ordering Pastrami sandwiches in the future due to only ONE THIN SLICE OF PASTRAMI was on EACH of the sandwiches plus, review my receipt what I paid for the 2X Pastrami sandwiches--WTH!!!! On our way to the Reno airport we stopped here "briefly" for a few pastries & 2 breakfast burritos. On a time constraint we were looking at the clock and noticed after 30 minutes the breakfast burritos still hadn't arrived, the toasted bagel with cream cheese was still missing. We asked and even though we were charged, the orders were never made. The cashier blamed a "computer error." The waitress was useless and standing around, none of the employees accepted responsibility. The cook was cursing and throwing things around. We asked for a refund and left. My mom stated this is her 4th time experiencing errors with this establishment with orders being accurate and timely. Beautiful pastries and breads! We were so excited to find this place since we frequently drive through Markleeville to Reno and we could stop for breakfast. Very clean, nice amount of seating. I got avocado toast and there was no flavor to it. I've had avocado toast in many places and usually there's some seasonings on it. Husband liked his breakfast sandwich. Pastries were gorgeous but were a letdown. I loaded up on several different kinds and brought them to my adult kids and they didn't say much. Was there for Breakfast yesterday. We ordered Avocado toast and a breakfast bowl and coffee. Paid over $30. First there were 6 tables all with dirty dishes. Nobody was bussing the tables yet there were 5 employees standing around talking. Asked a girl for a wet towel to wipe off a dirty table and she looked put off for us asking her to clean a table. The food was terrible. Avocados were brownish black, not fresh at all, eggs were barely cooked and greasy. Everything sucked. Looked at the griddle that they were cooking the food and it was filthy and greasy. The cook never scraped or cleaned the griddle once. We won't be back. This place is not anything like the one in Bishop. Don't waste your time or $$$. read more

I had to greet her first before she finally responded, but after that she went silent again. I'm not sure if this is her first job, but she definitely needs more training in customer service. ITEMS I bought their packaged almond pound cake which was really good!! I enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries too. They come in either milk chocolate or white chocolate. They were big strawberries too. VENUE is a brick building down the street from my favorite Italian restaurant, Khristopher's. It's big inside. The left side is the bakery and the right side is their restaurant seating area. I haven't been there for food, and it was empty for the food side when I went. Wonderful place to get your caffeine fix, and my favorite item is their iced vanilla chai. It is creamy with a sweet but not overly sweet taste. It still has a nice flavor after two rounds of ice too! Whenever I am here, I always see people eating sandwiches. And I finally got to try their Ruben and now I get it! Hot, fresh, lots of sauce, cheese and a thick serving of pastrami. The people who work there are very helpful and in fact one time we spilled an entire coffee. It was a messy disaster! Not only did they help us to clean it up, but they also gave us another coffee! We made sure to tip them well! The seating area is so cute with tables and booths. The bathroom is next door in the casino. We finally got to visit the very famous Schats bakery which is just one of a few throughout Nevada and California! We visited on a Sunday morning around 7:30 AM, there was plenty of parking and the restaurant was open and had quite a few people there already. Immediately we were starving and as soon as you walk in, you'll see that they have a ton of bread and pastries for sale. We picked up a loaf of banana bread to bring home to our neighbors. We ordered baklava to go, a blueberry scone, the chorizo burrito to dine in, and a vanilla iced Chai which we ordered per a Yelp recommendation. The line moved quickly and we were able to sit down in a booth. This the first thing I noticed when we sat down it was how impeccably clean the entire restaurant was. It's connected to a casino which is also super clean and the entire town felt so quaint and cute. We definitely kind of fell in love with Minden at this point! The chorizo burrito was a generous portion and so delicious, my favorite part was the green salsa that went on top. NOT spicy, but YUM!! Looks like it was made in-house. My partner loved his blueberry scone, it was so soft and fresh with a beautiful crystallization on the outside. He also loved the ice vanilla chai, which was suuuper sweet, but he didn't mind. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was beautiful. One of the only things we found to be strange however, is that there is no Wi-Fi. Overall, definitely a 5-star experience, and we will definitely come back if we are popping through Minden again. read more

Located in an old brick building with a tin ceiling painted black, this place gives off historic mixed with farmhouse vibes. Wooden wall behind a row of bench seats, heavy wood dividers with orange and beige seats. Chunky light fixtures tie it all together. Lots of various dessert slices in the case, full loaves and cakes to purchase as well. Bagel sandwich was excellent for breakfast, served hot, eggs had seasoning, and the bagel was really good. This is a small add-on to a casino. When I went in around 11 AM they were not serving anything but their ready-made baked goods. The kitchen was closed and this was super disappointing because I stopped in to get breakfast before the long drive back to the Bay Area. The coffee was great And the almond and raspberry croissants were delicious. Really had my heart set on a breakfast burrito though. I picked a loaf of sourdough bread from the shelf and when I made a sandwich at home I realized the bread was stale and hard. Unlike a normal soft fresh loaf. I returned to the bakery and was told the loaf I selected was TWO DAYS OLD! This was based on the color of the small tag which seals the loaf. The young man said "try this loaf, it is only one day old". I said I wanted a fresh loaf of today's bread (Thursday's). He selected a loaf from the rolling rack and told me it was baked today. I was shocked and disappointed that the bakery with such a good reputation and history was selling stale bread to unwitting customers. Now I need to figure out the tag code so I can be assured I am getting what I want and what I pay for. I know that a yellow tag was baked on Thursday. On occasion, they do have a "day old" cart. Perhaps they should have one daily and stop selling stale products. read more

I just can't.. been coming there for years. I really been debating about posting this... and since my concerns have fell on deaf ears with management, I just needed to state this. I have told management about their flies situation. (Yes I agree about the front doors being open etc..) That's not the issue on hand. It's been the flies on the actual pastries and breads that are place on the counter. (I mean why can't management just cover them up with a plastic wrap or glass case?) It's so gross to see flies landing on the bread assortment (that are not wrapped)... do you not know what happens when flies land on food? Google it~ it will completely gross you out. They poo on it for those that don't want to Google it. And I am really not sure how the health department keeps giving them an A+ (considering this issue and a serious good safety concern)!! When I had brought up this issue before to the counter manager she said they just spray the flies and it has cut down... (usually flies are present in a food establishment due to grease traps not being cleaned out or even worse something else) Why can't management just place their unwrapped pastries in a enclosed case. (I am not sure what the huge hassle would be?!) LA Bakery doesn't seem to have an issue with this, so why should your establishment.... read more

Bought everything else pretty much as gifts afterwards and was impressed. This was on Labor Day 2025 with Labor Day staffing. Hit the spot sooooo hard. Super airy and crispy bagel super fresh. Got 2 loaves of sourdough bread and the kids just hammered it down on the countertop while I was cooking dinner. I'll drive here from Reno for some food in the future. Super clean joint loved it. Sandwiches and pastries are delicious! You can purchase some bread on a healthy side. Sandwiches can be shared and it's a good portion for two. The chef is nice enough to split even the fries into two portions. The front staff needs a bit training on explaining the menu and maybe letting patrons know about a choice of bread since it's a bakery. The bakery is nicely presented with the different pastries and bread they offer. The great news is everything they have is scrumptious. Coffee can be a little more hot instead of cold after you splashed your cream on it. Sweet delicious dessert this is where you come! read more
