This updated review is strictly based on food. Our service this time around was much better as far as timing. We got: Nippon Elote - Tasted nothing like Japanese flavors. I think it's safe to say they use frozen corn which is a shame because fresh corn is still very much in season. I had their corn as an accompaniment to one of my past dishes and the texture is the same. Completely over cooked, soggy, mushy corn on the cob with absolutely no flavor. And get this, it costs $18 or $19! It's literally one corn on the cob that they portion into 4 or 6 pieces. Fish Special - It was rock fish with a red pepper sauce, eggplant stacked with feta and herbed roasted potatoes. The fish was over cooked and really salty. Eggplant was dry and difficult to eat. I didn't even bother with it. Potatoes, no big deal. Margherita Pizza - Good flavor, just not a fan of their crust Tchoupitoulas- We've gotten this in the past and this seems to be consistent with flavor and execution. My husband said it was as good as the first time. Kid's Mac n Cheese - At $19 I expected a large portion. It's not. But it was the best dish we ordered. We decided to give The Pink House a try, and overall had a great experience! They have a huge outdoor seating area with plenty of shade throughout the day, all while looking out toward the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. It's a beautiful setting to enjoy a meal. The restaurant has a vibe all its own. The restored Victorian home, the wraparound porch lined with seating, and the back patio complete with a live music stage make it one of the more unique dining experiences in Genoa. We ordered one of the 12-inch pizzas to start and were pleasantly surprised--it was excellent. For our main course, we had the steak frites, and the steak was cooked perfectly. They seem to have significantly increased their prices, and we were a bit disappointed with the limited lunch options. They offer a few pizzas on the "brunch" menu (which goes until 3pm, and then switches to the dinner menu), but other than that it is mostly egg-based entrees. No sandwich options and only a few basic salad options so probably won't plan to go back there for lunch time unless they put out a dedicated lunch menu. Their menu has expanded as well as their fabulous outdoor seating. The service was too notch from the hostess to our terrific server. We stopped in for a cocktail and ran into a full-blown breakfast service today. We did not know they were serving brunch, but clearly it's caught on and we're late to the party. It was rainy, and so everybody was indoors, and it was kind of crowded, but that's a testament to the quality of the food. Our bartender, Maddy, was energetic and friendly, and it didn't hurt that she grew up six doors down on our street. My wife, ever the hugger, was thrilled to see her, and you could tell they had a mutual fondness for each other. So if you're into day drinking, and it's a Sunday, this is a great stop. I came her today with my wife for an afternoon lunch. The setting was beautiful and we selected a seat on the patio which also was lovely. The service however was especially slow and there was no hostess to seat us and we stood at the "please wait to be seated" area for a good five minutes before anyone came to greet us. I ordered a draft beer and my wife a specialty drink...again very slow to come and see us but we were in no hurry. My beer came out luke warm. I asked the server about the temperature of the beer and after checking said that the keg had been left out and had not re-cooled! I ordered a can beer to follow and asked for a cold one? I ordered a burger and asked for it to be cooked medium. What i got was a charcoal blacked over well done burger i could barely choke down! Had such a good time at The Pink House. Spacious and still cozy, with a homey dining room feel to the different rooms. Very friendly staff--two different people helped us while we dined there, and they were both warm, friendly, and cheerful. My wife had the cacio y pepe, which was surprisingly well paired with tender root vegetables, and I had the seasonal roast, and everything about it was stellar: the mashed potatoes, tender beef, and savory broth. Originally found this restaurant during the Genoa candy dance a couple years ago and was so happy that they repurposed it! :) Ambiance is intimate whether you sit in the house, on the deck, or on the patio - so cozy and family oriented. Kid and pet friendly! They have live music with the cutest stage set up and also an outdoor bar, if you'd just like to swing in and grab a drink. The servers are always so nice and friendly. Starters, dinner entrees, and pizzas are offered - all so yummy! The prices of the entrees are reasonably priced. However, some of the starters and pizzas are definitely pricey for what it is. The cheapest pizza they have on the menu is $26. Reservations are recommended, but they do not take same day reservations. My wife and I went to The Pink House on a Saturday night because we had heard there was live music from 6-9 p.m. When we arrived, the place was maybe half full, probably less, with many seats visibly available. We were told rather rudely by the maître d' that they only take people with reservations. I pointed out that there appeared to be plenty of available seating, and his response was dismissive and frankly rude. It was an unnecessarily unpleasant interaction. Cute location in Genoa. The menu has delicious thin crust pizza selections and tasty salads. Gluten free pizza crust is available. There is indoor seating as well as outdoor seating on the patio and the front porch. Parking is easy to find on the street. Our server was friendly and attentive and even suggested the delicious carrot cake dessert that we devoured. Tips: If you eat here during the summer weekends there's usually Iive music on the patio. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Went here today. First off, my salad came before my drink. Alcohol drink. Not ok. Weird for me. My salad was mostly purple cabbage, very little fresh arugula and spring mix, ranch, meh. I had to pick out all the cabbage because it was super overwhelming and took over the entire salad. Croutons were not crunchy and weird, only 3 and no crunch, soggy. Not sure what this was. Honestly very disappointed. so then drinks come for the rest of the table. The Bloody Mary was basically vodka and tomato juice and bacon. Really? There should be horse radish and Worcestershire sauce. Bacon does not make a terrible bloody mary good. So we get brunch. pizza, good. Steak and eggs. Nope. My breakfast hamburger was good. We all split the bill. Here's where I am absolutely done. $130 for two people for brunch with two drinks and absolutely not at that price point, not even close. I'm being very critical because this was absolutely highway robbery. Never, ever, visiting this place again. If you charge these prices, it had better be good and it was not. I'm a foodie and I know food and for this price point, go somewhere else for absolutely sure. Absolutely not impressed. The first trip, my wife split the proscuitto-wrapped fig newton and it was phenomenal. We shared the Bee Stink pizza. Also phenomenal. If you like spicy like we do, ask for the house-made hot sauce. It was very tasty. For the second trip, we did the jalapeno popper dip, and we loved it. I would also call it phenomenal, but I have already used that adjective twice already. That app was a great start before we did their NYE special prime rib and crab combo. Everything we had there was delicious, and somehow we never got around to the awesome sounding Cacio e Pepe. I guess we should have scheduled in a third trip in five days. Anyway, this place meshes so many moods superbly. You can have a classy dinner here. You can have a fun bar experience here. What a cool spot. My friend is a member of the Supper Club here and suggested we meet there for lunch. The service was wonderful, the ambiance was exceptional and the food was outstanding. I had the blackened shrimp po boy sandwich - the shrimp was seasoned and cooked perfectly and the sandwich was excellent. We ventured upstairs as a "member" and met the owner who was welcoming and working on cubbies for club members to store their wine and cigars. We ordered a few things being; the French onion soup, butternut squash soup, the Lillian (19), and the Trisket (22)! Both sandwiches came with this gorgeous yummy little salad on the side. For my drink I got a root beer with clean ingredients which I love and it was good and refreshing. The French onion was delicious with the cheesy top, soft onions and do much flavor. The trisket sandwich was tasty but I feel like some sort of sauce to dip it in would have elevated it for sure. I ordered the butternut squash soup for my baby and she loved it as well as I, it was so cozy and tasty since the weather was chilly. Bait-and-switch deposit policy ruined what could've been a great night. We called to make a reservation for 7 people. Their website says that reservations for parties of 8 or more require a deposit of $25 per person. I've never heard of anything like that at any other restaurant I've ever been to, but figured we were in the clear with a group of 7. But when we called to make a reservation, we were told that this applies to any party of *five* or more people. So basically, we would have to pay $175 up front for the privilege of booking a table on a Wednesday night in the off-season. With appetizers, wine, and entrees we easily would have spent $600+ here. Instead we'll be dining at Walley's, who were happy to take our reservation without a shakedown. read more
