So, when my wife and I need fondue, we NEED fondue. There is no stopping us. Or, sometimes, we don't THINK we need it, but then read it on a menu, and THEN we want it. However, it occurs, it is an unstoppable force. While staying at a resort down the road during our trip to the South Tahoe area, we were hungry, checked out the bar menu at Daniel's (separate menu), saw the fondue, and then suddenly needed fondue...now. And, Daniel's delivered with our experience there. There are only a few bar seats, so we called ahead to ask about availability of those seats. "Be there in five minutes." Melissa at the host stand helped us out with the seats, so that was great. Mike was our bartender, and we excelled in efficiency and personality during our meal. Great, great service, I must say. Wife got a martini with her favorite, blue cheese olives. She also got this drink called the Cloud Cover. It was unique, had some egg in it, and you should go to hear the story of how Mike sort of made up the fantastic drink. So many drinks have been made in the world, and every once in a while, it is refreshing to get one that bends the rules. This drink did. They carried a really good IPA from Oregon that I liked, so I had that. We had lobster bisque to kick off the meal, and it was AMAZING. Next, the fondue came, and it was glorious also. Well worth the drive down there alone. For dessert, we got the Symphonie Chocolatee, and it was a drop mic end to our shared meal. Well named, as the high end chocolate bites were playing some awesome tunes in my mouth. Seriously, if I happened to have been carrying a microphone, I would have dropped it from my bar seat. We admittedly did not have the most healthy shared dinner, but we were on vacation! The atmosphere is classy and a great date place. They also have the ice patio, which was closed the night we were there, but looked like a cool outdoor area to eat in. I didn't snag a picture of the dining room area because I didn't want to weird out the fine diners there. Plus, once you are done your fancy meal, you can go to the extremely fun place across the street, which you will...trust me. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in Nevada)...

Omg.. so the service is stellar and the food fantastic! The atmosphere is so charming, inviting, the bar is small but adequate.

What are you doing from 3:30 to 5:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons while the weather is nice? If you're in the area and you want a light snack this would be a great spot for you to consider. My wife and I tried it recently and we found the cocktails to be spot on and the cheese excellent. We will, without hesitation, include this in our afternoon options considerations.

I visited the Ice House for another wine tasting. The theme of this tasting was Rose. The tasting welcomed all no matter their level or love of wine. The experience was laidback yet provided loads of information. The sommelier makes you feel like part of her family and brings the information to you in a way that is fun and easy to understand. Hopefully she will continue to run these for Daniel's and the Ice House because she is fantastic! If you haven't attended one of the wine tastings yet, you are definitely missing out so check their website and grab a ticket!

Do I recommend Daniel's?!?! Yes!!!! Once in a while you need to experience a Daniel's in your life, and if you can afford it then do it every day! Their food exquisite! I had a charcuterie board fool of the most awesome French cheeses, made in America, but each just as awesome as the next. I had the mushroom bisque, which was an awesome surprise to me since I hardly ever eat mushrooms! Their drinks were awesome as well. I highly recommended this place!

Filet & Salmon

Our kids gave us a $150 gift card for Christmas to try this place out. Awesome ambiance here, very quant/romantic...A+ For drinks, my wife had a lemon drop and I had the Kiev Mule...both were great. For an appetizer, we went with the crab cakes...little too mushy for my taste, and I prefer crab cakes that have nice chunks of crab....also, the flavor completely covered up the crab...that was a miss for me. We ordered the Filet and Salmon, both dishes were good, but both were slightly under-seasoned...we had to request some salt to amp it up a bit. In addition, the steak came with fries..but, they did not have ketchup for fry dipping. I understand this is a French style restaurant, but most Americans prefer a little ketchup to dip their fries. The béarnaise sauce was a little too rich for fry dipping. We had to add an extra $20 in addition to our gift card to pay for our meal. I'm glad we came her for the experience and I encourage you to try it out.

The other night, we finally decided it was time. We're kicking ourselves for waiting so long. From the moment we sat down, I was impressed. The wine list is easily the best in town, thoughtful, deep, and shockingly well-priced. I know a bit about wine, and most restaurants mark bottles up two times, or more, over retail. Not here. For example, they had an excellent Sonoma County Dry Creek Valley Nalle Zinfandel listed for just $48... essentially retail price. The menu itself is surprisingly expansive. It offers a range of classic and contemporary French-inspired dishes. The food was superb: beautifully prepared, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with care. It was so good we went back the very next night. In talking with the owner, I learned he hasn't raised prices in five years, which makes the experience an even more remarkable value. The service was attentive, and never rushed. Our server encouraged us to "take your time," which made it feel like an old-school French dining experience, where you're meant to relax and savor each course over several hours. For the quality, atmosphere, and overall experience, the value is outstanding. Of course, I secretly hope he doesn't raise his prices, but part of me hopes he does, because I want him to stay in business for many years to come. Incline Village is lucky to have several great restaurants, but Le Bistro stands apart. After roughly 500 meals out around town, this one genuinely surprised us and it deserves every bit of praise it gets.

We look forward to returning on our next trip and hope to share our experience with friends and family in the near future.

And we brought some Bay Area friends with us. We also came in mid-week to avoid any crowd potential. Our evening began at the bar with a round of Picon Punch, the official drink of the State of Nevada. I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. JT Basque is family generation owned, and we certainly felt welcome and well taken care of. The rustic decor was also cool, as was the happy energy in the dining room. Why is this THE ONE when it comes to Basque dining? Well... It's steeped in history in a way you can feel from the moment you step onto the wooden sidewalk out front. You'll see it on the walls, hear it in the conversations, and taste it in the food. This is simply a special place. You'll feel truly at home, and that's because the same family has operated it for countless generations, passing down legendary hospitality like a family heirloom. From friendly greetings in the "lobby" to the homey vibes and warm servers, you'll love every moment. Doesn't hurt that the food is delicious and plentiful. Everything is made from scratch with a lot of love, and each dish is huge and hearty. Lamb chops and lamb shoulder steaks are always A+ but be sure to order the desired temp because they don't always ask. Steaks are solid too. Same tip as above. And for all three, don't forget to get them smothered in whole cloves of roasted garlic. Personally I usually can't say no to sweetbreads at a Basque spot, and that's the case here as well. They're served in a rich, garlicky and well seasoned gravy, studded with red and green peppers and whole cloves of garlic. It's the perfect dish to use up the extra bread because you won't want to leave a drop. Make sure you bring a couple bucks to leave up on the ceiling! The bartenders can show you how to make em stick. And of course, have a picon punch!

And, it is worth it!...and, not spicy like you might think of chorizo. My wife and I ordered the Quesadilla and the Basque Omelette, and we split both (plus, we took some home too). Each dish was really good in its own right, and being able to have the chorizo prepared two ways was great.
