This food was AMAZING! We got a baguette, the gnocchi to share, my boyfriend got the duck (said it was amazing), I got the steak frites and we got a lava cake to share. The service in here was incredible as well. Everything we ordered was so fresh and flavorful. We will definitely be coming back!!

Spent a girls' weekend in Truckee and inaugurated our trip with this delicious upscale addition to downtown. Indulged in the seafood-forward tasting menu on offer, which the kitchen portions out for the number of diners, but everyone at the table has to order it. Every item, from the oysters to the caviar Gruyere puffs to the pork belly in cherry sauce to the smoked trout salad to the pesto gnocchi to the scallops and corn succotash to the charcuterie plate to the seared trout fillet to the hen in orange sauce (and a few other dishes I've missed) to the desert trio (which included one of the best crème brûlées I have ever eaten) impressed our table of picky palates. We added escargot because I ordered it anywhere I see it. Sadly missed the girls' other dinner at Great Gold, the Italian sister restaurant, but very delighted I experienced Tangerine Bistro and now understand why it's widely considered the best restaurant in Truckee.

I'm an SF Bay Area tourist in town for the weekend. Tangerine was recommended to my husband and me, and now I'm recommending it to you. We went on a Thursday evening which is the same evening as Truckee's downtown market. Tangerine sent us a text message reminding us that the main downtown street would be closed, so there would be limited parking. They suggested alternatives. I love when people think ahead and communicate with their guests/clients/patrons. We were able to get this message because we had reservations; I suggest you make reservations, and if you come on a Thursday evening prepare to park behind the restaurant and walk down. The interior is a large industrial space, but they have turned it into a warm and inviting restaurant. The low candlelight was a nice touch. I checked the menu before going, and I was set on getting French onion soup, but I was torn about my entree. Once our server detailed the tasting menu we were sold. However, we wanted the deviled eggs with caviar and French onion soup. She offered to sub the oysters for the deviled eggs, but we wanted to try the tasting menu in its entirety. I asked if it would be too much food, and she assured us that the tasting menu was light and we should be okay. I don't know all of the ingredients and proper names, but here's what the tasting menu was on Thursday, July 10: 1. New Brunswick oysters--delightful. I am not even an oyster gal, and these were great. They were accompanied by a vinegar or red wine type sauce that really kicked the flavor into gear. 2. Goat cheese tarts--puff pastry, caramelized onions, goat cheese...what's not to love? I could've tossed back six of these if given the chance. Thank God I wasn't! 3. Trout salad--fresh trout, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, dill, and a yogurt dill sauce. Summery, light, and tasty. The trout was excellent. I haven't had trout in forever, so this was a nice change of pace for me. 4. Crispy pork belly with pickled cherries--yum, yum, yummy. Cooked to perfection, seasoned well. The pickled cherries were such a nice touch. I need more pickled cherries in my life! 5. Gnocchi topped with squash blossoms--I believe it was a pea puree. Ugh. So good! The gnocchi was soft and melted in my mouth. 6. Scallops with corn succotash--the scallops were perfectly cooked and the corn was sweet. 7. Green beans with slivered almonds--this was probably my least favorite dish, but that's because everything else was amazing. It was just green beans with almonds on top. Overall, this was such a lovely experience for me. What I noticed was how in sync the employees were. They were all kind to one another and helped each other out. Whatever needed to be done was done. I've been in some restaurants where the staff didn't talk to one another, seemed stressed, or just didn't appear to like working with each other. Tangerine staff are all kind, welcoming, and they work together to ensure that patrons are serviced well from entry to exit. I cannot recommend this place enough. I look forward to visiting again.

We enjoyed happy hour at the bar until our dinner reservations on a Tuesday evening. Delicious dinner and appetizers. The service was excellent and well-timed. The waitress helped us choose drinks and was very thoughtful. Deviled eggs with caviar: 10/10! Best deviled eggs we have ever had. Very creamy and flavorful and the caviar was so special. Pate: 9/10. we had this at the happy hour for $10 which was a great deal. It was very good, but I would not have ordered it on the regular menu. Escargot: 2/10 This was the biggest disappointment of the meal. There was not a strong flavor of either garlic or parsley and was overall underwhelming so we would not order this again. French fries: 5/10. these would benefit from an aoli or some sort of sauce and would also be more "bistro" if they were shoe-string fries instead of thick American fries. Steak tartare: 10/10 this was delicious and I would not change anything:) Salad lyonnaise: 8/10 this was a very hardy portion which was appreciated, however it would be improved without the blue cheese and with larger chunks of the bacon. Trout: 8/10. Cooked perfectly! However, it needed a sauce of some sort, or more of whatever sauce they included.

Best meal in Truckee. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup and beef tartare, which were excellent, as well as the rabbit pappardelle, which was very good. We also got the escargot, which wasn't our favorite. For entrees, the trout was my favorite, but the Tomahawk and cassoulet were also good, just very heavy. Our favorite desserts were the lava cake and Parisian sundae. The crème brûlée was just okay. The restaurant had a great lively atmosphere, and the service was excellent!

French cuisine at Tahoe? We had escargot, frog legs, etc... Yes, why not. The food was great, service was mostly good, but could have been friendlier and more attentive for the 20% auto tip. I'd go back

This maybe a long review, so if you're not in to details: tangerine Bistro serves some of the best French food we've ever eaten. The service was excellent-friendly and professional. The food to die for! Everything is made in house- don't forget to have the baguette, so worth it! We will be back! It' will be our go to place whenever we are inTruckee. Highly recommend. Exceeded our expectations! Tangerine Bistro is located in a newer, unpretentious building on the main drag of Truckee. You're greeted by an entrance beautifully decorated which opens to an open high ceilinged restaurant. Service was top notch. You could tell everyone who helped us loved what they did and loved the food and drink! We had the escargot, onion soup--delicious. Don't forget to get the baguette--crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful in the inside. Served with yummy salted butter. I forgot to mention everything is made fresh in house. My husband and son shared the 28 oz bone in rib eye. They loved it! One of the best steaks they've had. I had the cassoulet-- well done. Brought back memories of times spent in Paris 20 plus years ago! We ended with affogato, sorbet and an adult dessert, blood orange sorbet topped off with sparking wine(sorry I don't remember the exact drink) . Double espresso ended my meal. What an amazing experience! We were well taken care of the entire night and the pace of our dinner was perfect. The room and seating well thought out- I felt very comfortable. I highly recommend Tangerine Bistro! If you're ever in the Truckee area or even just looking for a truly wonderful French dinner make your way over to the Tangerine Bistro. It's worth it!

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! It quickly became one of our top favorites! My partner and I came to Truckee/Tahoe for a relaxing anniversary getaway and had a dinner reservation here. We were seated right away, and the hosts and servers were incredibly kind, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was absolutely amazing! every bite was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The ambiance was beautiful, elegant, and cozy all at once. We can't wait to come back in the winter and dine at Tangerine Bistro again!

Stayed a week in Truckee. Ate in a 1/2 dozen restaurants. This by far was the most delicious meal. Country pate' rivals any made in France. Pan fried trout was sublime. Cassoulet was rich beyond belief, enough calories to hold one over for a subsequent 3 days of not eating. Home made bread was fluffy, fresh, warm. The salted French butter was so good it was sinful. Vanilla Crème Brûlée was the best I've had anywhere in the USA. Would give the best tasting one in Paris a run for its money. I live 75 miles down the road towards Sacramento. I seriously will consider driving up here again just to have dinner at Tangerine.

Came here for a dinner date. This is a bougie place but it was a fun experience. They only serve French wine (it's a French restaurant). The bartenders were very knowledgeable and suggested wine options for the food we ordered. We split the bison burger. Cooked perfectly. However, it took almost 30-45 minutes for us to receive it. Our favorite? The escargot. I'm typically used to having escargot in a traditional white wine, garlic butter situation. But here, they cook it in red wine. Each little morsel has like a small biscuit of its own on top. It was so unique. I've never had anything like this before. It was delicious !

Such a great find thanks to someone telling me about it! The concept for this is here to stay. French, airy, with great service and amazing food and wine. We always choose to sit at there bar, and these are the goods that we tried: Deviled egg - a must!! Burger - I am not a burger person but wow, this nearly tops it for me. House wines - delicious European options is my new style. Pate - a great snack Homemade mini baguette and quality butter? Yes always Mussels - popular and great. Add the baguette. This is a clean, friendly, yummy spot.

Think, maybe, Julia Child cooking at the boss' house, prepared by their cook in their over-sized split level. That's specific, I know. But that's the head space I was in and that's the head space that allowed me to enjoy my meal at Le Bistro. I came here with a large group of folks I have known since my teen years and we were ready to eat, drink and carouse. Given our group's size and the relatively sparse crowd on a Saturday night, we were given the big table in the front dining room. Despite being on display I welcomed the seating. Our server was chatty and friendly. Realizing that we were a table of (mostly) newbies, she told us about the $70 prix fixe menu*: 5 courses from appetizer to dessert. Done. Sold. Let's do this. To accompany the first part of my meal, I had to begin with a French 75. The glass was lovely. The champagne was bubbly. And the gin was a respectable pour but not so heavy as to overwhelm the lemon and other elements. Plus, hibiscus for a purpley hue. We're off to a good start. Soup: Lobster bisque. Full of sweet lobster meat, cream, deft use of tomato paste and pepper, and as much butter as one could want in a serving. My cholesterol levels would have to be sated on another day. Appetizer: Crab cakes. I figured if the lobster was a hit, let's stay in the same neighborhood. A plate of Dungeness crab came breaded, flaky, sweet, and meaty to my waiting belly. Paired with a delightful (appropriate use of the word, given the French setting) remoulade, this former New Orleanian had no notes or complaints save wanting more. Salad: House Caesar. Keeping with my fishy meal, I was pleased to note that the salad was very (white) anchovy heavy and the cheese was Parmigiano-Reggiano rather than Parmesan. AND it, too, was served with a heavy hand. I understand that some may want editing but when eating this style of food in this setting, set the dial to 11. Going into the home stretch, I requested a glass of Grenache. Our server let me know that she had a blend. I told her that was good enough and when I received it, I was ready for my entree. Main: U/10 scallops (ie the big boys). No fear of any heavy handedness in this dish. The protein was prepared perfectly so as to allow for the sweet flavor of the delicate meat to come through. And even though it was served 'French-style' (coated in a Fontal bechamel sauce, topped with breadcrumbs and broiled until browned), I never lost the plot on the scallops. Dessert: An assortment of macarons. Completely serviceable (not an insult; a descriptor). Every course was fair to generous in size and I left satisfied, full and happy. This isn't trendy, sceney food. This is old school, well-executed French comfort food and it was wonderful. When vacationing in Lake Tahoe (or, if you live there), I can't imagine not putting Le Bistro as part of the rotation. *Prices may have gone up since then.

We ordered some plates to share: the escargot with beets, little gem salad and the hummus with Impossible Burger meat kofka, tahini and spiced naan. The hummus was my favorite of all three, but everything was delicious. For our main courses, we also shared - lamb shank with risotto, root vegetable cassoulet, duck breast and steak with potato puree. All again, winning dishes! The root vegetable cassoulet would be the only dish I probably wouldn't order again. Lastly for desserts, we tried the walnut tart with vanilla ice cream and the apple bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream. Ice cream was house made and I have to say that the apple bread pudding would be my go-to again next time. So unctuous and caramely good with that little spiced ice cream. Service was helpful and attentive. Wine was nice - we ordered a bottle of Barolo and it was a perfect accompaniment to this stellar meal.
