We were heading into Carson City and looked on Yelp for a place to have breakfast. Boy, are we glad we found the Villa Basque Cafe! Here is what we noticed: - It's a pretty unassuming place...we parked in the side lot and walked around to their main entrance. They even had some specials highlighted as we entered. - Inside there is lots of seating...when we arrived the front of the place was empty, but people were sitting there when we left and we noticed that it is much quieter in that section of the restaurant than in the main dining room. - As others have noted, chorizo is their specialty and it's in many of the dishes. And, it is worth it!...and, not spicy like you might think of chorizo. My wife and I ordered the Quesadilla and the Basque Omelette, and we split both (plus, we took some home too). Each dish was really good in its own right, and being able to have the chorizo prepared two ways was great. Their home fries were really tasty too. - Service was good....very attentive, especially considering that it took us a while to decide what to order given the breadth of the menu. - We paid cash because of their sign indicating that that was preferred. Bottom line: We'd go back to Villa Basque Cafe anytime we're in Carson City...next time, we'd like to try some of their lunch options! read more

Really great to have an original and authentic alternative to the usual breakfast and lunch spot. Villa Basque Cafe has friendly service, solid food--especially their "world famous chorizo which they work into several menu options--and a homey environment. All of the food has a very "family recipe" feel to it, and they lean in a lot on the chorizo, eggs, and potatoes, so you could say it's very hearty (if not the healthiest). The flan is also quite good. I personally found some of the sauces not quite as rich and distinct in flavor as I was imagining, but every meal we've had there has been filing, satisfying, and fun to try. Definitely recommended for the usuals and also if you're feeling adventurous. I also like that the staff is comfortable enough to communicate through looks, jokes, and gestures, and the little market component at the entrance and the chorizo case inside the restaurant gives it a great vibe. read more

Hole in the wall, happy accident. Chorizo is all pork shoulder not all the rest of the crap most places put in it. Best chorizo I ever have. I bought something to take home too. We got to try it because the waitress brought us a taste We're supposed to be eating more vegetarian so we actually both got vegetarian meals and a chorizo place, but man to die I had the burrito he had a quesadilla both were stuffed with fresh veggies, and great flavor flavors well done I just wish they weren't so far away about we'll have to make the drive read more

I'm amazed that my family and I have never eaten here before. Upon arrival, we were greeted with the warmest and friendliest welcome. They let us pull a couple of tables together. They asked us if we had ever tried their chorizo. I told her I was not a fan of chorizo as it is usually too spicy for me. She told me Basque chorizo was unlike other chorizo. We informed them that we had never had it. They were shocked. She brought us a small plate with several pieces on it. Oh my word, that was all she wrote. We were all in love with chorizo at the first bite. We all wanted to have some chorizo. I had the Basque omelet with Basque sauce. It was the bomb. The sauce really takes this omelet over the edge. The omelet was packed with chorizo. It was so good I ate the whole thing. I am still raving about it, and we had it on Saturday (10/18/25). It was so flavorful and tasty, I found myself savoring every bite. It is a delicately balanced omelet. My husband and daughter had the Biscuits, Potatoes, and Gravy. They each bite ended in a Oh or Ah. My son-in-law had the Chorizo Hamburger. We all shared a chorizo Tamale and Chorizo. We all took several bites. Every bite was simply scrumptious. My mother-in-law had the Chile Relleno. She said it was the best she has ever had. My son's sandwich was the only one that was ok. We all agreed that we have to eat here again. We're still raving about our meals, especially that chorizo. This meal was the kind that you'd talk about long after eating it. There are a few meals that you dream about and relive. This was definitely one of those meals. If we hadn't been going somewhere else, we would have bought some of the mild chorizo. The next time we go, we will need to bring a cooler to get some Paupusas, Chorizo, and Chorizo Tamales. The restaurant has a variety of items to purchase. It is worth checking out the canned goods, as well as their fresh and freezer sections. Not to mention that they have a vast menu with numerous specials. I purchased some aged Spanish Balsamic and Red Wine vinegars. I'm excited to try them and use them in recipes and glazes. However, if you go, you definitely have to try something with their housemade chorizo and housemade gravy. Believe me, you will be in love from the first bite. Co worker used to live in Carson and swears by this place. It is in South Carson and has two different dining rooms as well as separate sections for merch. Stuff like hats and shirts but also olive oil, tea, tinned fish and a bunch of homemade chorizo, papusas tamales and other deli meats. The chorizo is the star here and I would have been foolish not to try some so I went for the Chorizo Ranchero, a pan fried sausage with cheese, onion, peppers and rice and beans on the side. Doesn't sound like a lot but it was a big sausage and I barely finished it. The flavor was surprisingly spicy for what I expect of Basque and probably the best Chorizo I have ever eaten. Seems like a burrito the size of a newborn infant is one of the more popular dishes as we saw a few of those being delivered. It would probably take me 3 days to eat one but they looked delicious. Customer service is fast, friendly and efficient and my partner pointed out they are the same people that have been there for years. Had some auto work nearby so after I went to Villa Basque Cafe for breakfast. The place has an old school diner feel to it with a in house butcher counter. I entered I was greeted and told to sit wherever I wanted to. There were about 15 people sitting sporadically throughout with several tables available. I was immediately approached by my waiter and the menu was on the table. He asked me what drink and quickly brought my coffee. I ordered the Basque three egg omelette with the potatoes. It was a good size portion with a Basque tomato sauce and cheese covering it. The omelette had Chorizo, ham, mushrooms, pimentos, and onions. They make the chorizo fresh in house and might be the best I've ever had. The gravy is extremely flavorful and the biscuits light and fluffy. The potatoes are nice and crispy. Everything was incredible like usual. We will drive here just for the frozen ground chorizo and spicy chorizo links. Make sure to grab a couple packs before leaving. As a former resident of the Carson Valley, this place is a staple. And rightly so. The Chorizo really is world class and worth a visit to Villa all by itself. Brought my wife here for the first time and she loved it too. When you walk in you realize that this location is bigger on the inside. An unassuming patio that opens up into a nice spacious restaurant. We were quickly greeting and the very nice employee brought us a sample of their chorizo and gravy which are both always winners. My wife got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant with the chorizo and I had their chili relleno also with chorizo. Really, when you come here its very hard to skip this famous Basque specialty. Villa Basque gets great reviews. While I don't disagree, I think a four star rating is more than enough. Upon walking in, I loved the small market and all of the items you can take to go, including the chorizo. I was asked if I wanted to order to go or eat in and was then told to just sit anywhere. I looked at the menu for awhile and they have some classic dishes as well as some more classic basque and Hispanic options. Most dishes were priced on the higher end. I settled on the breakfast sandwich and some black coffee. My bill was over $20 with tip. I do feel that for what I ordered and the quality I received, that price is a bit high. The inside of Villa Basque is fine. It has plenty of seating and you can see the kitchen area, pastries, and fresh juicing station. Somewhat fun to watch all the action happen while eating or waiting to be served. The service was good. Friendly staff, but not exceedingly special. I appreciated the one gentlemen who refilled my coffee several times and cracked some jokes while he was at it. I would certainly come back here and try some more menu items. Perhaps I just didn't get the right thing. But, overall, I think Villa Basque is a competitive breakfast/brunch option in Carson City but not the best. Check it out and see what you think! read more

The orange juice is still INCREDIBLE and my daughter's latte was perfect... but the service was very slow around 8:00 am and my pancakes and her French toast spent an inordinate amount of time under the heat lamps and I'm not sure why? It didn't seem busy, but things just seemed to be moving at glacial speed. The butter didn't melt on the pancakes and they'd kinda stiffened-up under the lights. It just kinda felt like no one really cared. I still overtipped in cash, as they prefer, but not likely to be in a hurry to return. What an amazing experience at Villa Basque. My fiancé and I came after visiting the capitol. It was very busy, but we were seated very quickly. You could instantly tell this cafe is a neighborhood staple, the kind of place that your family looks forward to having weekend brunch and breakfast at. The cafe was very homey and comforting, like any good cafe should be. I played it safe with a pancake, bacon, and egg dish, but my fiancé got the breakfast tostada with chorizo. The waitress was so friendly and kind, and she told us she actually used to live in Los Angeles, which is where we are from! It was nice talking with her about all the places she used to visit and see which are still there to this day. She let us sample some of their famous chorizo, and man, it was some of the best chorizo we have ever had! It was so good, we decided to buy some of their frozen chorizo offerings to take home to LA. My fiancé got us some chorizo tamales, chorizo in a link, chorizo patties, and chorizo sausages. It was so delicious!! I seriously cannot wait for when we can go to Carson City again to stock up on chorizo. Mind you that this is Spanish-style chorizo and not what you would expect if you're used to Mexican-style chorizo. I would highly recommend any locals or tourists to stop by this gem. WOW! We came in on a Saturday Morning and it didn't start out busy but it progressively picked up as we ate our breakfast. They were quick, helpful and happy. We were offered a sample of their famous chorizo which was delicious and we promptly ordered! I got the chorizo and egg breakfast croissant sandwich which was delicious and a great way to start our busy day. My husband got the chili relleno whit chorizo (obvi) which was also excellent. A friend who is local to the area recommended this place to us. Since we were staying in Carson City, we decidedly to give it a whirl. Now at first we were a little skeptical, because we're not huge Basque food fans. But they had many different offerings such as Mexican and American based dishes. We walked in and the first dining room only had a couple of people seated, so we continued to the second dining room. I noticed quickly a huge refrigerator lit up with many packages of all different sizes of uncooked chorizo. For sale, which you don't see all too often so I felt that would probably be an option. Entering the second dining room we were quickly sat and told everything is made from scratch in house. My lady had the special a chorizo skillet, and I ordered the highly recommended chicken fried steak. Our server then asked if I'd be interested in trying the Pork fried steak, being adventurous I said I would. We both were very happy with the outcome. Her skillet looked more like an omelette because it wasn't scrambled. The pork was very juicy and soft. We are definitely coming back here. I also had a side of chorizo links. The chorizo isn't too strong, compared to other chorizo I've had it's very minimal not too spicy or salty, seems fresh and homemade for sure We broke the bank on our usual breakfast budget but it certainly was worth it. It kind of catches you off guard. Like he's a smart ass. But he's really cool. There's also a waitress who has a great personality as well. I find the service here very good. The first visit I ordered the chorizo with eggs. It comes with beans and rice and tortillas. I figured since they're famous for chorizo I would make that my choice. The wife ordered the brisket hash with eggs and potatoes. The food didn't take too long and it looked pretty good as it arrived. Although mine looked like it had been sitting for a while. I figured they were working on my wife's order and wanted to bring them at the same time. Not a big deal. Because the food was great. Wife didn't care for the brisket hash. But I thought it was good. This was just too different for her I guess. We came away thinking this visit was just ok and thought we would come back another day and try it again. Which we did yesterday. I know that I have raved about Pete's place before but I had my favorite burger there recently (yup, the one with a spicy basque chorizo patty along with beef patty) so incredibly good!!!! My daughter and I split this big boy and still can't finish it. Also took home a ton of frozen chorizo and even some fresh rolls. I love the freezers in front room. Makes Christmas gift giving easy. I'm a stupidly big fan of the spicy basque chorizo here, it's over the top delicious. Sometimes I wake up thinking about the stuff. Nice selection of basque imports too. It's at best a no frills cafeteria looking place in dining area, but longtime staff is so great and food/friendly atmosphere is simply old Nevada at its best. Always clean and always packed. Not sure what Pete adds to his chorizo that makes it so good (think it's love). I love my burgers and having an In and Out in Carson makes my visits, but I simply cannot visit our capital city without a visit to Pete's for an epic meal and great memories. read more

If you're ever in Carson City, this is a pretty cool spot to go eat or just buy meats! Villa Basque Cafe, has delicious meals as well as amazing deli cuts like Portuguese sausage! I recently went to have breakfast and had the Basque Chorizo dish. It was very good and tasty! The taste was very fresh and the Portuguese chorizo was nice and spicy. I've only tried this dish as I've been here before, but everything looked and smelled amazing. I also ordered a cafe mocha which came out quick and tasted great with the meal! The service is amazing, where they immediately attend to you and you feel like family. The ambiance is a casual, plenty of tables, but be warned this place is popular so you may have to wait for some tables as it gets busy. The parking is plenty as there is a lot where you can park for free and the price is very reasonable. This place also offers sausage and meat cuts you can buy to go, which is a little taste of old world basque shops. It's a must try and I definitely look forward to going and trying new dishes! read more
