2-Year Update...Sage Cafe Coming back two years later to say this place is still doing it right. Sage Cafe continues to deliver quality food, generous portions, beautiful sunsets and prices that honestly don't make sense for how good it is, in the best way. What really stands out is the consistency and the people. Pedro, Ramón, Javier, Gilberto, Juan, Chef Jerry, and especially Luis (20 years here!) continue to make this place feel welcoming. Luis personally checked on my order to make sure my steak sandwich was cooked exactly how I like it, service like that is rare anywhere, let alone in a hospital café. Ordered the steak sandwich with fries and a chicken sandwich with onion rings..everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. All of that, plus a fountain drink, under $23. Two years later and my opinion hasn't changed: this is not "hospital food." It's comfort, quality, and care. Still highly recommended.

fish & chips, my regular food truck was a no show

Ended here to try their fish & chips. My original fish fry food truck was a no show, I already packed my own vinegar so off to the hospital I go, I remembered they also had fish & chips on their menu, what a find,! This will be my go to spot for fish & chips when I want again. The fish was not huge pieces but then again at that price I can order two. The prices are extremely resonable. The fish was deep fried perfectly with a nice crunchy coating and not overcooked in the middle. The fish was not salted which was great, a lot of fish fry places overly salt their deep fry items., allow you to add salt if desired. The chips, ah the chips, were wonderfully cooked, crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside, my sister being a french fries critic would approve. Well worth the trip to this hospital cafe for a snack if you are nearby.

Sage Cafe is the cafeteria, open to the public, within CarsonTahoe hospital on the north end of Carson City, NV. Serving 7-7, last I checked, and offering quality, mostly made-to-order dishes at a reasonable price, cafeteria walk-up & self-seating, a casual atmosphere with lots of natural light in the dining area; Service with a smile, every time. **Poke Bowl and Stir Fry station Monday - Friday only **

Looks like it's time for an UPDATE on the current menus. Posted as of 3/8/2026. Prices have gone up, but still a better deal than any restaurant in town. I got the Fish and Chips, they seemed improved over what they used to be. More crunchy batter. Deal at $7.75 and no tax or tip! The burgers are actually flame grilled and have a charbroiled taste. Note: grill is Closed between 10:30am and 11:00am for the switch over to lunch service. They now have big baked pretzels for just $2.75 each. Credit cards taken just fine and no service surcharge either! The turkey club sandwich was fabulous, look at the pic! Yes! Everything is sanitary and clean, cause , well, this is a hospital!

I heard that people would stop here to eat a good meal at a reasonable price. I thought this was a little funny since it's the hospital cafeteria...but whoa!!! Not only do you get good food, but the prices are VERY reasonable. I came in on a weekend, but if you are able to come in on a weekday, they have a stir fry bar and poke bar. I hear the breakfast is also popular. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and loved it! It does feel like a hospital cafeteria, but the hospital is beautiful. Service is typical for a cafeteria, and that was fine. If you want to a good meal at reasonable prices, you should definitely give it a try.

I was half way through before I remembered to take a picture, it was so yummy looking. I eat here just about every week (my perk for volunteering) and today I tried the Poke Bowl! Wonderful healthy addition to the cafe. As with the stirfry bar, you fill out a little firm, circling what you want and they make it right up. The ahi was tender and fresh, all the add ons were just right, rice was excellent ..often hard to get well prepared rice in a food service setting. Highly recommend Sage!

Soft beard on the bottom, but I worked through it. Corned beef was a good quality and flavorful

Finally tried Sage Cafe in the CarsonTahoe Hospital.. 1st. Was kind of confusing on ordering as there was a menu on the wall and people standing all over waiting on orders. No biggie, we figured it out. Hubby n I decided on trying the reuben as we love those sandwiches so much. They do not have onion rings on the menu, but they do serve them and omg so so good. They had no ice for the drink machine, so we opted for a bottled water. The cafe itself is kinda crazy, but it all works. Once we walked up to the grill and placed our order, it was a matter of time as it is made fresh to order period!!! Love that aspect. We received our order in probably 7 to 8 minutes. Which is not bad at all as we went during lunch and they were busy. Now a reuben, onion ring and a water were under 10.00 6.95 sandwich 2.10 onion ring add on .85 for a bottle of water. You will not break the bank eating here and you will be full for sure. We shared and could not finish it all. Once you leave the order area wth your food, you walk into the dining entrance where you pay, get your condiments, silverware etc. The dining room was spacious, clean and very inviting for a nice quiet lunch. Plenty windows for a nice ambience. Outdoor tables for when the weather is not so cold. They have a decent sized menu and just 2 people were busting out the orders. As well as very friendly. If I had to critique 1 thing on this meal the bread was soggy on 1 side from the extra juice I'm guessing from the Sauerkraut. But the corned beef, cheese and bread were so delicious. Great amount of everything. We will be going back. Imma have to go try a burger next. Great prices and amounts for the working class. I see why they have the review stars they have.

You wouldn't expect to find such a great eatery in a hospital. Enter Sage Cafe. We came here based on reviews. The guy who took your order was genuinely soooo nice. I ordered the fish and chips but substituted for onion rings with ranch. My son had the beef nachos, and those were delicious, too. Everything cooked to order and did not take very long. Just dont go between 12 and 1 pm. The hospital employees got to eat lunch too. Next time I will try the cheeseburger!

Hospital cafe extraordinaire! I heard rumors of the great food and value. No joke! We tried the steak sandwich with fresh onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Also the crispy shrimp tacos. Beautiful, light, and healthy. When I ordered the sandwich, they asked if I wanted fries. Yes. They were good, but others ordered onion rings and tater tots. Next time! The food was great and they spent less than $20 (including 2 Perrier waters). The burgers looked absolutely amazing and only $7, so I will definitely bring our family back for a meal. The jalapeño popper grilled cheese looked interesting too. If only they had beer...probably not since it's a hospital.

What is left of my Reuben sandwich before I decided to take a picture.

Absolutely excellent lunch. Great food, awesome portions, friendly staff. Don't let the hospital location fool you. Good selection of sandwiches and wraps and large onion rings. The Reuben sandwich was phenomenal. Excellent quality meats, and just the right amount of ingredients.

Unfortunately, I found myself spending a fair amount of time at his hospital over the summer. Thankfully, Sage Cafe gives you one less thing to worry about while you or a loved one is here. Sage Cafe is a complete redefinition of typical hospital food. Normally, it's atrocious. The food here, however, is on par with some restaurants you'll find around town. I've tried the French dip and their French toast with black berry compote and my wife tried their turkey club. All of the food was damn good considering where you are. The service was...meh. When you arrive, you place your order with the cooks. On my first visit, the guy was....indifferent. Not rude, necessarily, but not polite either. The next day, it was a different guy and he was super friendly. So I guess it just depends on the day. To pay, you go to the checkout register in the cafeteria and you're free to use the tables there to eat. It looks like a break area as you'll be surrounded by doctors and nurses but rest assured, you're ok to be there.

Here is what we noticed: - It's a pretty unassuming place...we parked in the side lot and walked around to their main entrance. They even had some specials highlighted as we entered. - Inside there is lots of seating...when we arrived the front of the place was empty, but people were sitting there when we left and we noticed that it is much quieter in that section of the restaurant than in the main dining room. - As others have noted, chorizo is their specialty and it's in many of the dishes. And, it is worth it!...and, not spicy like you might think of chorizo. My wife and I ordered the Quesadilla and the Basque Omelette, and we split both (plus, we took some home too). Each dish was really good in its own right, and being able to have the chorizo prepared two ways was great. Their home fries were really tasty too. - Service was good....very attentive, especially considering that it took us a while to decide what to order given the breadth of the menu. - We paid cash because of their sign indicating that that was preferred. Bottom line: We'd go back to Villa Basque Cafe anytime we're in Carson City...next time, we'd like to try some of their lunch options!

Years back my husband and I wanted to try them out but we went in on a random Saturday morning and they were closed. My dad was admitted to this hospital a little over a year ago but I was not able to try it, so it was time! The first thing I wanted to try was their breakfast! I walked over to the ready made selections and I assumed it was just like regional where the only thing they offered were premade. Since I assumed, I went ahead and tried their sausage and egg English muffin sandwich, which is my go to at regional! After I paid I noticed there were a group of people to the side waiting for their orders. I looked to the right of the cashier and I saw they had made to order omelettes! I was bummed I didn't see that in the first place or else I would have ordered it! The price of the sandwich was about $3.50 and the omelettes were $3, which is a great deal! The breakfast sausage english muffin sandwich was similar to the one I regularly eat at Regional, but I don't think they butter the bread here, which is good on my heart and arteries! It's definitely something I would recommend to try! I am so used to picking up Starbucks at regional that when I ordered my sandwich I decided to just get drip coffee, which wasn't labeled. I then I realized i should have just made coffee in my office but it was ok, it did it's job! During the lunch hour, my husband, who's office is about a block away, decided to join me and we went straight to the menu to the right of the cashier. Everything was priced great! I ordered the tuna melt with fries and he ordered patty melt with onion rings. Both were priced pretty good, about $3 for each sandwich, the fries were $1, and onion rings $2. My coworker told me the quesadillas were good as well! The sandwiches and onion rings were hot and fresh but the fries seemed like they were sitting there for a little bit, but they were battered similar to flowing tide fries! Still yummy! Both times I went throughout the day, they offered a small cold section with salads, fruits, yogurt, and a refrigerator stocked with bottled drinks. They didn't have a soda fountain available. They also had an area for snacks including slim Jim's, trail mix, etc. condiment packed were stocked and I was glad to see they had cholula offered which is a change from Tabasco at regional. Next time I do want to try the made to order foods that they offer! This makes me miss the made to order ways we had a regional. I had the same cashier both times and he was so sweet, all smiles and was so welcoming! The tables were limited but it was like a well oiled machine; as soon as people were done at the table, they got up to make way for others to sit. I really like that the area was well lit with big windows to let natural light in. My husband and I were reminded of being at a hotel. I grew up eating hospital food since my mom was a nurse for 24 years so I never look down on cafeteria food. The quality isn't what you'll find at a 5 star or a Michelin star restaurant, but if you're at the hospital and hungry whether you're a guest or an employee it's worth it!

I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. You'll feel truly at home, and that's because the same family has operated it for countless generations, passing down legendary hospitality like a family heirloom. From friendly greetings in the "lobby" to the homey vibes and warm servers, you'll love every moment. Doesn't hurt that the food is delicious and plentiful. Everything is made from scratch with a lot of love, and each dish is huge and hearty. Lamb chops and lamb shoulder steaks are always A+ but be sure to order the desired temp because they don't always ask. Steaks are solid too. Same tip as above. And for all three, don't forget to get them smothered in whole cloves of roasted garlic. Personally I usually can't say no to sweetbreads at a Basque spot, and that's the case here as well. They're served in a rich, garlicky and well seasoned gravy, studded with red and green peppers and whole cloves of garlic. It's the perfect dish to use up the extra bread because you won't want to leave a drop. Make sure you bring a couple bucks to leave up on the ceiling! The bartenders can show you how to make em stick. And of course, have a picon punch!
